Well here I am with another idea for a world. To be specific, an empire spanning a continent currently embroiled in a way civil war, and whispers of a long forgotten civilization coming back to reclaim vengeance.

Before we tackle the current setting of the Civil War I suppose I should tell you about the history of Bioran:

Yrauval and the Tael

Thousands of years in the past, Bioran was a wild and rugged land. The Tael, a race of golems that closely resemble humans, were the first to settle in this land. They had made contact with several of the indigenous species, most dominant of which were the tribal elves. There was friction at the beginning as the tribal elves were too war-like and territorial, it took a while for the Tael to subdue the elves. Once the elves had calmed down after suffering several defeats at the hands of the Tael, they had begun trade relations.

Bioran itself was a large continent and a small portion that the Tael had surveyed yielded that there were several raw materials abundant here that were either scarce or nonexistent in their home of Mandala. The trade relation they had established would prove to be a gamble as there was still unrest among the tribal elves and the deal was in exchange for the raw materials they were to supply them with weapons.

The first tribe to surrender, The Yrauval Tribe, benefited most from the trade relations as they were the first establish a trade relation with Tael. They used they're new armaments in tandem with their guerilla warfare tactics, which suited the thick forests of Eastern Bioran, to systematically eliminate the other elven tribes who did not agree to be assimilated with them. They did this to impress their new found allies, the Tael. Among other elves, being born an under the Yrauval clan meant that you were a traitor coming from a long line of traitors.

Time would prove to the Tael that trusting the Yrauval was a mistake. After a brief respite from completely assimilating or eradicating the other Elven tribes, The Yrauval tribe had begun forming an army under the pretense of an expeditionary force to explore the other reaches of Bioran. A minority of Tael had voiced their opinions regarding the "expeditionary force" that the Elves have assembled. The general majority had disregarded the warnings. Those who have grown tired of voicing their opinions left Bioran for Mandala, others opted to stay behind due to pride and trained their private security forces composed entirely of like-minded Tael.

Although the time was short before the Yrauval began their revolution, The Tael had the advantage of being synthetic. Those in the minority within the Tael who resided in Bioran broke their time honored laws and began synthetically forming Tael of their own. The Tael, as was mentioned before, were simply golems with human features, it was easy to mistake a Tael for a human if one did not notice the mana lines that run through their bodies, the mana lines are akin to the veins in our bodies, mana is their blood. Their origin, however, is a mystery which only the oldest Tael is privy to and his mana has burned out. Their efforts were in vain however as the majority of the militaristic gene pool archives were located back in Mandala.

The synthetic Tael army had fought against an opponent who knew the forests of Bioran like the back of their hands and knew there were other forces at work within the forests that limited the application Brute Force, a tactic which was popular with the Tael. It was as if Bioran itself joined in the event known as the "Yrauval Rise" to the rest of Bioran and the "Yrauval Treachery" to the Tael. The elves wiped out all the colonies that their former trade partners had established.

The Early Years of the Yrauval Dominion and the Short Southern Campaign.

The unified elf clans had moved to explore the rest of Bioran, as was the original plan. They had established their seat of power at the coastal city that was the original home of Yrauval clan, and moved to make contact with the races in Southern Bioran. They were largely inhabited by similarly tribal orcs and humans, any resistance either seemed to offer to the Dominion were met with a swift and deadly response. Some of the smarter tribes had turned on their brethren to earn the favor of the Dominion, they were assimilated into the empire but were soon exploited. The Yrauval clan was nothing, if not clever. The new assimilated Human and Orc clans were treated as second class citizens of the dominion and had limited rights, for in the event of an uprising similar to what the Yrauval did with the Tael, they would have a harder time toppling the dominion.

It was after they assimilated the Humans and Orcs that the quality of strategists and warriors jumped significantly within the Dominion. Both races possessed crafty and unorthodox individuals, even their approach to combat was unusual. This was when the Yrauval clan had learned of the value of diversity, their next conquest would bring them to the icy peaks of the north.

Yrauval Decline and the Northern Resistance

A few years after the assimilation and stabilization of the Souther Regions of Bioran, racial discrimination became a sort of a hobby for the landed elite clans of the Elves which possessed close to ties to the Yrauval. The Orcs and Humans formed unions to champion racial equality, within the current governance of Yrauval clan, some of the rival clans of the Yrauval like the Telesar supplied support to these unions, partly due to being a more tolerant tribe of elves and an old vendetta they swore against the Yrauval for shaming them as they were the first to be subdued when the Tael had supplied the Yrauval with weapons. Despite the Telesar backing, some of the Humans had turned to less savory practices, while the other Orcs held a series of short lived rebellions, which only made the lives of the law abiding Humans and Orcs within the Dominion are a heavier burden to bear.

After quelling several Orcish rebellions, The Yrauval turned their attention North. They quickly assembled a 10,000 strong force and marched north. That was when they were greeted with icy peaks and the races of Dwarves, Gnomes and Pale Elves. The three races seemed to coexist together as the mountainous peaks were more of a danger than each other. Negotiations were established that leaned too favorably to the Dominion, the Pale Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes offered a counter deal which seemed fair for both sides and Yrauval answer was war.

The Dominion marched its massive army toward the north. Within the first month of the conflict, dominion forces had lost almost 20% of their numbers due to the icy mountains and the fact that none of them had experienced winter combat like the Pale Elves who seem to blend in with the snow, nor the hardy Dwarves that hide within snow mounds and spring ambushes upon unwary Dominion forces, nor the Gnomes who seem to be a different breed of strategist that uses terrain to their advantage, planting traps and orchestrating rockslides. By end of the first year, the Pale Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes, known as the Northern Resistance had pushed dominion forces back to the central plains of Bioran. It was at this time that the Dominion started conscripting civilians into the army.

The Northern Campaign was what, made the Yrauval lose credibility with its populace. The current head of Yrauval clan was militaristic despot, hence yielded to no negotiation that didn't seem to largely favor him. The previous Yrauval head had passed on as he was also the tribe elder before the Clan came in contact with the Tael. The people were forced to fight a losing war with a defensive faction that showed signs that they were willing to have fair diplomacy. General unrest rose to its peak within this time period, The new Yrauval leader was looking to make the Dominion into his own personal racist dictatorship, he held the fanatical belief of Elven supremacy over all the races in Bioran and the Yrauval supremacy over all the elves.

Rise of the Telesar

It was no surprise that the humans had their pantheon of Gods, everyone knew that. What everyone didn't know was that some of these Gods actually exist. The Martellus family, a family of devout followers of Ostrava, their Night God, and had close ties with Telesar clan, had achieved the impossible, contact with their god. An avatar of Ostrava, had shown itself and offered the Martellus family power in exchange for a heavy price. The Martellus family members lost their souls and became immortal instruments of Ostrava, they were dubbed "The Children of Dusk." or more commonly referred to as vampires.

It was at this time that the head of The Martellus family pledged his family's support to the Telesar tribe in overthrowing the Yrauval Dominion. They were tasked with assassinations of key figures within the Yrauval Dominion, the plan was to simply smooth the Telesar into a position of higher collective political power. The Yrauval Dominion answered in force and turned its army towards its citizens, The death count reached thousands within the first day and Martial Law was established.

The Yrauval clan's current generation was a tainted brood filled with greed and power hungry individuals, headed by a blood thirsty dictator, a far cry from the older Yrauval members who stepped on toes only when they had to which had long severed their ties to their off spring and assimilated themselves among the Telesar. Of course, the Telesar had treated them with suspicion at first but later accepted them. The Yrauval who defected opted to carry the name Elendiir.

Months later, the Dominion's leaders began simmering down, which put the Northern Campaign on hold and allowed the Northern Resistance time to generate an impervious line of defenses along the foot of the mountain range. The older Yrauval had proposed to the Telesar that an all out revolution should take place, as the younger members would not bow to political power anyway. They would have to be removed by force. The Telesar asked The Martellus family if they are able to share their gifts bestowed by the deity Ostrava. The Martellus family answered by turning select members of the Telesar into "Children of Dusk."

The Telesar had quickly dominated the Southern Reaches in the beginning of the revolution and established its power. They pushed the Dominion out of the South and back to the East, back the to the original territory of the elves. The Telesar and Yrauval are locked in a conflict to decided who has control over Bioran.

Whispers of Vengeance

There is an uneasy feeling that plagues my heart. I fear the Tael will return after our tribe's treachery. I see it in my dreams, the golems will return in force to subjugate the entire continent. They will slaughter those who resist and make examples among those who surrender. I believe the Tael learn from their mistakes, as is the nature of all sentient beings, despite their apparent artificial nature. Their golden ships will line the coasts of Bioran and fire upon coastal villages, their warriors clad in gold and formed from the genes of the best warriors in their archives will compose the entirety of their army, why else would they be taking so long to exact their vengeance. Strange how the workers of the Tael already gave us a difficult obstacle to overcome. I hope that a unified Bioran may be able drive back their golden tide, or that the Tael are merciful enough to initiate negotiations before firing upon us. The dominion I created has to topple and a common council with representatives from all races should take place. This infighting should be resolved before the Tael arrive or Ostrava embrace our souls. It is strange how an elf believes in a human god, then again this Ostrava is the only one so far from the Human's pantheon that bothered show his face.

The entire plot is really well thought out and has a lot of potential for generating a great story. I'm pretty new here so I don't know how all this works, really, but I would definitely be interested in participating!

Thanks for the feed back. Hmmm since you're here any specific question you want ask about how all this works?

I have so many questions! lol I don't even know where to begin!

  • How does submitting characters work?
  • When the story starts, is it mainly forum-based or is there a mixture of email, live play, etc?
  • On average, how long do roleplays last? (I ask because I tend to steer toward the longer-lasting ones)
  • Is there a specific format of posting that is best because I have seen so many people use so many different types. Using symbols such as *, ~, and { to denote actions from people writing as if it were a book. I've even seen people use first person in posts and those that prefer third.
  • Is it encourages that, once a story starts, that there can be side stories off the main story?

There are other questions, but these are the ones that are standing out to me right now. Thank you for humoring me!

1. RP creator usually has a character skeleton posted in their sign ups(which is in a different subforum from this one, I haven't made one for this, still need some traction though)

2. Usually forum based though its up to writer discretion where else to have it.

3. That's a hard question to answer it ranges from not-even-seeing-the-light-of-day to it actually finishes/

4. There isn't any specific format just go with what works for you

5. That, my friend, is all up to the creator. some allow, some don't but usually you can.

Damn, that's awesome. I'm interested as either a human or orc, not sure which faction yet. I'll keep an eye on this idea.

Interesting, a very involved history with a lot of twist and turns. I noticed one cannot be a Tael so you have reserved them for a specific part. I like the deity twist on Vampires.

Well, I plan to introduce the Tael later on and the ability create one if you so wish....assuming this survives that far. Alternatively, since it's nearly impossible to differentiate humans from Tael, it would also make sense that they would have spies implanted among the human population. I'm still running through several ideas about the Tael and debating on methods of introducing them early and introducing them as an invading force.

Thank you so much for the information! *s* I am going to keep an eye on this thread because I definitely would be interested in playing a human. I have always been one of the go-to people when it comes to humans throughout my years of playing because I do enjoy them and trying to find new, interesting personalities for them. I hope this gets off the ground because it really is a nice idea!

well I'm pretty sure it will, I smell 3 three potential recruits -you included esielle-

Looks good, only thing I can say is to make sure the reader doesn't get bored.

Picture representation, tabs, separations, just add things that make the reader want to keep reading or rather keep them from getting bored.

Personally, I would suggest to keep things at a minimum around here, apparently lots of lore can become over bearing to people. I fail at keeping things small, to be honest.

yeah I have absolutely no idea how to make tabs....and I guess I'm kinda having difficulty looking for pics, I was aware of that little problem though.

Just put [ tabs ] [ tab=whatever this tab is called ]info within the tab [ /tab ] Add as many [ tab=whatever ] info [ /tab ] as you want just end it all with [ /tabs ]

Of course with no spaces between the s

  • check me out

Code:
[tabs][tab=example] check me out[/tab][tab=wanna add more]just repeat the process[/tab][/tabs]

and using the same HTML process I can make several tabs within a tab.... Thank you Master.

The lore is so long! Lol, but it's not a bad thing. I dunno if my short attention span is the norm or an oddity, but I couldn't get past the Tael chapter, sorry!

Anyways, just one thing I missed is a little lore on the Tael. I never saw any specification if they were advanced or not, just that they were the first to colonize and settle. Apparently they are, if they give the Elves weapons and such. Much more mentally advanced, as well, if they're able to train them into private security forces.

Anyways, the story's very well written.

yeah I still have to separate the sections, as of now it's simply a wall of text. Thanks for the feed back by the way. I plan on introducing the Tael specifics later on, assuming this gets off the ground.
