The continent of Gatriva is very large. This being true, many different peoples and traditions exist in this land. You may walk from one kingdom to the next and find that what was true where you just came from, is not true in your current location. Crimes in one place may be completely ignored, while the same crime may lead to an automatic beheading in another kingdom. Emperor Mavril was appointed long ago to rule over these kingdoms. He made basic guidelines that all kingdoms must follow, and if you ask any man or woman from any kingdom, you will find out that Mavril is the only man keeping Gatriva from falling apart. The kingdoms tend to hate each other, with a few exceptions. Why is this?
Emperor Mavril
Go back 20 years, and there were mysterious reports coming in from all over Gatriva. Pockets of people were simply disappearing, often with destruction left behind. To put it simply, everyone blamed each other, and nobody was able to find these citizens or the people responsible for such damage. Mavril' s older brother, Ilias, was able to calm everyone down enough with promises that the true culprit or culprits would be found. He marched off with his best men, seeking information and justice. Four weeks later, Ilias was reported dead from a sneak attack in the night from, supposedly, a gang of thieves. His men, what was left of them, returned broken hearted, all telling stories, all of them different. One thing remained the same. There was indeed a sneak attack in the night, and there was lots of lightning. Most people blamed this on some major storm, then dismissed it.
Regardless, this all led to Mavril's succession as emperor. Kingdoms sent out armies to investigate, but came up with nothing. For a while, Mavril was able to keep the peace. That is until his wife passed away due to illness 10 years ago. His grief overcame him, and for a long while, he was not capable of making good decisions. Five years passed, his court making some bad decisions without his input, and Gatriva was starving. Tensions rose, and fights broke out. Grudges and fights over food and supplies kept the kingdoms squabbling.
Despite these issues being fixed within two years, as Mavril recovered and regained control of himself, the kingdoms still fight. Mavril sent his only daughter, Tarya, along with his very best army, to act as a diplomat, encouraging peace between two of his most troublesome kingdoms. She disappeared. Her, and every man that went with her. Three years later, she's still missing. She was last seen somewhere in the West.

Things that have been purely legend and myth seem to be appearing in the West now. Hopefully, this feast will be enough to bring all his people together enough to fight the malevolent forces that threaten to kill them all if not stopped. But it must be a group effort. Will it succeed? Only time will tell.
