Once upon a time, there was a wedding that was meant to save a kingdom.

This wedding has been in the making for years. Endlessly talked about, planned, and painstakingly negotiated by people almost more enthusiastic about it than the two souls actually getting married. It was sold as one of the great future stabilizers of the Continent; a political union between the two most powerful kingdoms, heroically designed for love, peace, prosperity, and just a little bit of smug diplomatic gloating.

The nobility of both kingdoms had assembled; Elyrians and Caelish poised and glittering in their finest silks and jewels, speaking in careful pleasantries while their thoughts ran far sharper beneath the surface. For all their grace and composure, this was not merely a wedding to them. It was a proving ground, a spectacle where age-old alliances were reinforced, grudges polished to a shine, and rivalries played out under the guise of celebration. They raised their glasses, exchanged diplomatic smiles, and whispered in hushed tones about the state of the bride’s gown, the stiffness in the groom’s posture, the fortunes to be won and lost in the shadow of this union...

Meanwhile, dragged from their perennial little warring spats between each other, their endless struggle against the horrors of the Land of Beasts, and their ceaseless skirmishes with independent island raiders, the Vostigari are summoned like obedient hounds to sit through a wedding that had nothing to do with them. The Elyrians had insisted, of course, never losing out on an opportunity to remind their relatively newly-acquired vassal state of their place.

And yet, while Elyria had demanded the attendance of an entire contingent of Vostigari savages, the ever-calculating Ish’korans had sent only one. A curious decision, though hardly surprising. The Grand Council did not waste resources on empty ceremony. They did not need to send an entourage to make their presence known.

Of course, conveniently, there is just one small, uncomfortable fact everyone is seemingly overlooking - the bride had just had her heart broken.

The Princess of Elyria was raised to rule. Poised, elegant, and destined for the throne, she had spent her whole life knowing she would marry the Prince of Caelum, her childhood best friend. The boy she admired from afar even when duty separated them. The man she thought she would one day stand beside, not just as his wife, but as his partner.

But the night before the wedding, she found the letters.

They were tucked away, bound neatly with a ribbon, hidden where they were never meant to be seen. Letters not to her, not to another love, either. Still, she traced the ink with trembling fingers. Reading every careful word of doubt, of desperation, of the quiet unraveling of a man who did not know if he could follow through on duty over the heart, that fickle thing that drove him to the edge of a ship and beyond...

Ah, and what a cruel thing it could be, one could realize, to love someone without wavering, only to discover that they had themselves had wandered, and wondered, again and again, what it might be like to live a life without you in it.

She folded the letters.

Smoothed the parchment, set them aside as if they meant nothing. Then she lifted her chin, straightened her crown, and when the morning came, she walked down the aisle with a smile so perfect, no one thought to question it.

And then suddenly, right in the middle of the ceremony, the sky exploded.

A magic storm.

Wild, uncontained, and absolutely not on the schedule, it ripped through the palace without warning with the kind of cataclysmic force that does not care for treaties, politics, or wedding vows. One moment, the future rulers of two great nations are on the cusp of sealing their destinies...

The next moment, they're gone.

The ceremony grinds to a halt; the music cuts off mid-note. A stunned silence spreads through the hall as the smoke clears and the empty space where the bride and groom once stood becomes undeniable.

They really are gone.

Not only them, but the princess’s younger sister too. So has one of Vostigar’s very own, along with a lady’s maid, three knights, and the Ish'koran delegate.

The natural first question to ask is, well, where the hells are they?

...

Far from their silk-draped courts and candlelit corridors, dumped unceremoniously into the most hostile place on the Continent, where the worst of the worst lurk. Not just the exiled criminals, outlaws, and forsaken souls the kingdoms cast away, but the things that make even the bravest warriors hesitate. Beasts that should not exist, creatures of nightmare and legend, horrors that grow stronger the deeper one ventures in. It is a land where the air itself hums with magic, raw and unpredictable, and where even the most experienced monster-hunters pray to whatever gods will listen before setting foot inside.

The Land of Beasts.

hello gamers! you can call me time. (´。• ᵕ •。`)

welcome to Till Death Do Us Part, a low fantasy, survivalist, political drama with a healthy dose of camp, inspired by some of my notable guilty pleasures and fave pieces of media (Mushoku Tensei, Game of Thrones, The Crown, etc) and a sprinkling of anime tropes for good measure. expect snooty nobles, ridiculous culture clashes, aggressive bickering, political betrayals, and monster slaying (affectionate).

this is story-driven & character-focused, where court intrigue meets survival horror. one second, you’re debating whose country has the best wine and the next, you’re running for your life from something with six legs and too many teeth. the tone is lighthearted but with real stakes, so think witty banter, reluctant teamwork, and the slow descent from “ew i hate you” to “okay but maybe we won’t survive unless we work together"... but also deep, interpersonal drama.

alrighty, time to flesh out the disaster cast! here’s where i’ll lay out the roles, a little blurb about who they are, and their approximate age ranges. keep in mind that while these descriptions give a general idea of who they are, there’s plenty of room for customization, i wanna see what wild personalities and unique takes y’all bring to the table!

THE ELDER PRINCESS OF ELYRIA. (21-24)

she always knew she would marry him. just as he always knew he would marry her. it was their duty, their fate, their inescapable reality. and for a long time, she never doubted it. why would she? she was born to be queen. it was all she ever wanted. raised for it, trained for it; poised, elegant, and every inch the future ruler of the greatest kingdom on the Continent. she believed she would have it all. so when the arrangement was announced, she was thrilled. not because she was naïve enough to expect undying love, but because it made sense. he was her childhood best friend, her childhood fancy. they had spent years apart, yes, but she had always admired him from a distance. he was supposed to be hers...

but she was never his first choice, was she?

THE PRINCE OF CAELUM. (22-26)

he has always known his fate. born to rule, raised to lead, and destined to marry his childhood best friend. that was how it was meant to be. that was what was expected. and so, like any good son of caelum, he prepared himself. but hearts do not always align with duty. years ago, before the weight of a crown settled fully on his shoulders, he had begun to falter. the silence between their kingdoms stretched too long, and in that space, doubt grew like ivy through stone. he dreamed of slipping away; of leaving the endless expectation, of disappearing to ishkora or somewhere nameless, where no one knew his title or waited for his hand. still... the love of a people, of a princess and a kingdom... he had convinced himself that was enough. that it had to be enough. but now… that life is gone. the wedding is gone. the throne he was meant to take is out of reach. and all that remains is her. the one person who knows him best, the one person he was choosing for the sake of his kingdom. the one person he cannot - must not - lose.

so why does it feel like she’s already slipping through his fingers?

THE SWORN KNIGHT OF CAELUM (26+)

he was never supposed to leave her side.
half elyrian, half caelish, he grew up straddling two worlds. raised in elyria, with the sea in his blood and sky in his lungs; a dual-affinity mage in water and air (a dime a dozen among the elyrian nobility), but one of the few who actually had the drive and raw talent to master both fully... until he realized he couldn't get to his little sister drowning in the falls in time. a little girl who looked no older than her dove in first... fierce and fast and already fearless. that girl was princess aurelia of elyria. from that day on, he made it his mission to protect her. he trained hard, earned his place by her side, and despite not having the pedigree the court liked, his loyalty was ironclad. but then… the kingdoms drifted apart. the court got nervous; a half-caelish knight standing next to a princess suddenly didn't fit the political climate. so they told him he was being “temporarily reassigned”... promising a fitting replacement, that it was only temporary, that he would return. so he waited. and waited. and when no one came, he had no choice but to turn to the other half of his blood: caelum. he started over, rose through the ranks and eventually, he found himself as the sworn shield to the prince of caelum himself. clever, kind, frustratingly good-hearted, who reminded him a little too much of someone else. he never really stopped thinking about her, but he learned how to live with the ache. now, stranded in the land of beasts, fate brings her back into his life. and with it, the opportunity to learn the truth: there was never a replacement... just a quiet lie to get him to leave...

... and for the first time in years, he’s not sure who he’s supposed to be fighting for.

THE YOUNGER PRINCESS OF ELYRIA. (16-19)

everyone expected her to be the quiet one. the graceful one. the obedient little sister who would stand in the shadow of her elder sibling, smile politely, and marry a perfectly respectable lord while her sister took the throne. unfortunately for everyone, she has no intention of being anyone’s afterthought. unlike her sister, she was never content to simply accept things as they were. she asked too many questions, caused too many headaches, and harbored far too many opinions on things she shouldn’t have opinions on. and now, through some cruel twist of fate, she’s been dragged along for the ride; far from her kingdom, her people, and her cushioned place in society, stranded in the worst place for some prime sister bonding time...

well. they always said she had a habit of getting into trouble.

THE VOSTIGARI WARLORD.

the vostigari are not meant for courts, not meant for silk and gold, for silver-tongued pleasantries and empty words. he has spent his life in the north, among warriors, among the only people who matter. and yet, here he was, playing nice with the elyrians. sitting through a wedding that had nothing to do with him, nothing to do with his people. he hated it. hated the way they looked at him, hated the whispers of savage, barbarian, dog on a leash behind polite smiles. his people had once been free. once ruled themselves, answered to no crown but the one won through strength. and now, they bowed to a kingdom that would rather pretend they were little more than brutes with swords. he thinks this wedding meant nothing to him, that these politics meant nothing to him. but fate had a twisted sense of humor, and now, instead of enduring another empty spectacle of elyrian excess, he is trapped in the one place in the world where brute strength is the only thing keeping them alive.

funny, how suddenly, the so-called savage is the one they all have to rely on.

THE SWORN KNIGHT OF ELYRIA (20+)

they were never supposed to be anything more than her protector. a knight sworn to duty, sworn to their oath, sworn to her. and yet, somewhere along the way, they realized they loved her. maybe they always have. maybe they don’t even know when it started... when admiration turned into something deeper, something impossible. because it was never a choice. not for them. the princess belonged to her kingdom, to her throne, to the duty she had been raised for. so they buried it. locked it away behind steel and silence, standing steadfast at her side as she devoted herself to another. her childhood friend, her promised prince, the man she was meant to love. they told themselves it was enough. enough to serve. enough to protect her. but here, in the land of beasts, where every step could be their last, where death waits with bared teeth and bloodied claws, where duty is the only thing keeping them moving, silence feels like a fool’s game. it’s only a matter of time before the words slip free...

...the question is, will it ruin everything… or change everything?

THE ISH'KORAN DELEGATE (20+)

she was never just an observer, never just a passive witness to politics she had no stake in. she walked into the wedding with purpose, with a mission hidden behind her polite smiles and poised words, reminding these rulers that ish’kora never never leaves a shift in power go unwatched. but diplomacy was never her true purpose. there was always something far more delicate at play, a task far more dangerous than sipping wine and exchanging pleasantries; poison is an art, after all, and she was meant to be its painter. but before she could finish her task, fate, or perhaps something far crueler, intervened. now, she stands in the land of beasts, her mission stolen, her carefully laid plans scattered like dust. but an ish’koran never falters.

survival is just another game of strategy, and she does not intend to lose.

THE VETERAN KNIGHT OF ELYRIA (40+)

he has spent his entire life fighting a war that ended before he was even born. fifty years ago, elyria conquered vostigar. it was his father’s war, his grandfather’s war; a brutal campaign that cemented elyrian rule over the north. but conquest was only the beginning. the vostigari never truly surrendered, and someone had to keep them in line... and that someone was him. a decorated soldier, a seasoned knight, who has spent decades stamping out vostigari uprisings, crushing rebellions, and ensuring elyria’s rule remained unchallenged. the warlord across from him is younger, but not unfamiliar; they’ve crossed paths before, fought on opposite sides of the same battlefield, bled in the same wars. they both know how this game is played. but none of that matters now. because whether he likes it or not, they are now responsible for getting this ragtag group out alive...

...and given the company they keep, that might just be the hardest battle of all.

THE SCHOLAR (20+)

knowledge is power. at least, that’s what they’ve been told since the day they were old enough to hold a quill. raised in the great archives of ish’kora, they were not born into privilege, nor were they free. no, they were bound. an indentured apprentice, trained in service to the grand council, their life belonged to their masters until their debt was repaid. but debts in ish’kora are never simple, and the price of knowledge is never cheap. they were meant to be quietly accompany the official Ish'koran delegate as record-keeper, cataloging the political theater of a wedding that would shape the continent’s future. instead, they’ve been dumped into the land of beasts, hopelessly out of place. they know how to read a battlefield in theory, how to analyze strategies on paper, how to identify the remains of creatures that most have only seen in myths.

but theory is not survival. knowledge is not a weapon, not unless they can make it one...

THE ROGUE MAGE (20+)

unlike the others, they weren’t supposed to be at the wedding - hell, they weren’t supposed to be at all. their fate had already been sealed, either locked away in a cell awaiting execution or making a desperate escape when the storm struck. because practicing magic illegally in elyria? that’s one thing. practicing forbidden magic? the kind that gets you burned, beheaded, or worse? that’s another entirely. and yet, here they are. still breathing, still dangerous, newly dumped into the land of beasts with people who could have orchestrated their downfall. maybe the sworn knight or the veteran were the ones who dragged them in, bound in chains, thinking they had rid the world of another threat... even if the very thing they were sentenced for could ironically save them all.

And if survival means earning a pardon? Well... there are worse bargains to make.

THE LADY'S MAID (20+)

the least important person here, and yet somehow still stuck in the worst situation possible. she was just supposed to be dressing the princess, fetching tea, and enjoying or suffering through nobility’s gossip, ogling a good looking foreigner or two, not fighting for her life in a monster-infested wasteland. maybe she’s loyal to her mistress. maybe she’s secretly bitter about the whole thing.

either way, her survival depends on the very people she was trained to serve.

RULES.

quality over quantity. this is semi-literare to advanced, but the goal here is fun, engaging writing that consistently adds to the setting. no 20+ paras or one liners please!

anime fcs only. no ai-generated art pls

be chaotic, but respectfully. this is a character-driven rp; this is all about messy dynamics, political rivalries, romance, betrayal and questionable decisions. give me drama!!

romance is required (but a very, very soft requirement). rivals-to-lovers, politically arranged marriages, secret affairs, all on the table, and let’s keep it tasteful ( ˶ˆ꒳ˆ˵ ) rpn rules apply

combat is narrative-driven. no strict system of stats really, just make it cool and make it make sense.

respect the lore. i put my heart and soul into this world pls love it like it’s your own child.

posting expectations. once every two weeks

ghost friendly. if i don't hear anything from you in a week, you will be booted and your char will go through a round of voting on which kind of monstery death they'll tragically meet

ooc. use the poll to decide if ooc will be on discord or on site! if you read this far, tell me your favorite monster or show!

UPDATE ANNOUNCEMENT

Hi, this is just for extra clarity for onlookers! a quick update on some changes to the RP:
  • After careful consideration, I’ve decided to close the Prince of Caelum role to players and take the Prince on myself, in addition to my Vostigari Warlord, to help ensure the RP’s long-term stability, and those who were previously interested in the role were informed beforehand.
  • Lastly, I’ve introduced a new role: the Rogue Mage, as a catalyst for an extra layer of intrigue and spice to the story :3
And that's about it! All updates have been made, so be sure to check them out! ✨

ANNOUNCEMENT (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧

📌 continental map for the Kingdoms has officially dropped!!
Find it first thing on the lore/character sheet threads 😎

📌 apps for the rogue mage roles are now temporarily closed! we’ve got multiple great apps for it, and to keep things balanced, it would be great to see apps in the eldest princess, veteran, and ish'koran delegate role department!

so if you were considering applying for one of these roles or you're considering applying a second role in case you don't get in for the first, but weren’t sure this is your sign to go for it! (ง •̀_•́)ง and of course, my dms are always open, if you need help fleshing out your ideas!

My interest is piqued. I'll take a harder look at this when I'm off work.
