Through the Portal

"Well that makes two of us" jacob said.

Jacob then got curious, wheres the captain. The captain was supposed to meet us but is no where to be found he thought, maybe we're the rejects and he's pulling an elaborate prank, maybe were on a completely wrong ship, then jacob asked the group. "have any of y'all seen the captain, wasn't he supposed to meet us here?" jacob said

Alejandro nodded after being shown every weapon, his nods increasing in angles as Lazul went on, especially when he was shown the absolutely massive shield. "One day you must show me de rest. But today you know, who says there's even going to be something out to kill us beyond de portal?"

When the expert began talking about his Dane-mayor, it reminded Alejandro of the other reason he came to mingle with his new teammates.

"Yeah, speaking of de big dog-horses, what do you think I should name mine?" Looking to his side as a voice spoke, he saw the shy guy he identified earlier being mostly ignored, except by the chef. In an attempt to include him in on the conversation, the Gnoll posed the question again to Orville.

Turning to him, he asked,

"What do you think, eh... Oscar?"

Orville cracks a small smile at Alejandro, but finds it hard to remain eye contact with him. He had never quite seen something like him before, and he was trying his best not to be rude. Last thing he needed was to already be on somebody's bad side this early in the expedition.

"Oh uh.., it's Orville. Not Oscar. However, you could pass the name along to your Dane." He says, nodding his head slightly and motioning toward him.

"So... Anybody pick a roommate yet?" He asks, wanting to keep the small talk alive.

@Skout64

"Why do we have so many engineers? Will it really take over half our total crew for maintenance on this ship? Or was their some information I missed about the portal? Is there supposed to be technology were we're going? Well, regardless, for those who didn't hear, my name is Collin, the botanist and possibly the only scientist on this exploratory mission. I'm a bit disappointed, if I must be honest. But I'm sure you're all a wonderful bunch, as is this Danemier I've got here." Collin pet the creature, smiling as he decided upon a name.

It got quiet. Jacob tried to lift the mood by saying "im sorry Collin...that's a nice name for the pet, i think ill name mine sugar" jacob said still trying to lift the mood. "So Collin what are you currently studying, im currently studying ingredients for a famous new soup for all of you tonight but im curious, are you studying anything right now?"

She saw more and more people started to talk. She had seen something similar to this when she was little. She shut her eyes and counted to three before opening them again. She looked at the two people she started to talk to before and watched as Lazul did his show and tell of items. Once again, she was overcome with the desire to look at it more. "It's a lovely piece of armor, Lazul. I think it'll come in handy when we cross that portal. We don't know what's on the other side."

She looked over at more people talking. She heard Collin talk, Jacob, and Orville. Also, Alejandro making the rounds with people. She turned towards her Danemaer that she had already claimed. "I guess I'll call it 'Night'." The Danemaer was dark with freckles of white. She imagined it as the night sky with stars. She looked over at Lazul, "Are you going to ride a Danemaer with all that armor on?" She asked him curiously. @Eternal Eclipse

Lazul looked back at Nata and scratched the back of the armor where his head was covered saying "Hm you are right, but you never know there might be beasts of the old like dragons, Giants and the thing like those. Maybe that where I come in." Lazul said laughing a bit about his joke even though they're might be those types of creatures on the other side.

As Lazul looked around more and more people were joining in on the talking Gnoll was trying to get a name for his DaneMare and other people were talking about they're specialties and what they are naming they're DaneMare to. As he was getting use to it Nata asked how his DaneMare will carry him and his stuff, "Well I picked the biggest looking DaneMare here and made sure it had enough stamina to run and I did he's over in that stall" Lazul pointed at one behind him holding a muscular DaneMare "I'm thinking of calling him Smough because of how big he is" he said chuckling a bit.

Collin turned to Jacob. "Ah, I'm glad you show interest in the work of science. Curiosity is key in my field, after all. Now naturally my current work is of lesser importance with this upcoming exploration through that peculiar portal, but if I have any free time before things get interesting, I plan on finishing up my journal entry on the rare Motley grass, which has been found to grow in nearly every color with seemingly no way of telling what color it will appear as before it grows. So far my theory is that it's all based upon a few specific nutrients in the soil, but I haven't tested anything yet. I have a few samples in my book, if you'd like to see it later."

(Sorry for not being on all day, I've had other stuff. Though by the looks of it no one else has been here, either.)

A decent amount of time had been spent with everyone getting to know one another. Kifle remained mostly to himself, but was watchful of the relationships formed between the crew he was soon to lead. In a way, everyone here had to be a little crazy. Nobody was even positive they were going to live trying to pass through the portal. That thought caused Kifle to turn and look in the direction of the whirling monstrosity in the sky. Looking back to the others, he makes an announcement.

"Welcome, everyone I am welcoming you. It be good fortune we find ourselves here, all gathered here where we need to be." He stab, leading Toti towards the exit.

"De' time has come. Follow me, we will take the Danemaer, I will give you a tour of our new home. Come, come, look at de' ship." He says, motioning for all of the others to follow him as he approaches the distant docks.

As the crew chattered and chose their Danemaer, Kayden walked around looking for his. Although it seemed that none of the Danemaer wanted him. At least in his eyes it did. "Maybe this mask is blocking my view of affection." he thought.

While walking around, Kayden listened in on the conversations. It seemed that their crew consisted of a few engineers, a chef, a few warriors, and a scientist. "Certainly could use more scientists, but overall not a bad cast" Kayden thinks.

The Nontle man told everyone to get on their Danemaer. There was only one left. A big, black one with brown eyes. It didn't seem to dislike him as much as the other ones did, at least in his eyes. Kayden grabbed a saddle and approached the last one slowly. The Danemaer let him put the saddle on him, and he climbed on his back. Several beads of sweat dripped down his face, and if he wasn't wearing a mask, everyone would be able to see the fear on his face.

(decided to squeeze out a post before the update)

The Ship was a beauty, everything about it stood out. Jacob thought that the ship was the best looking thing he's ever looked at. The ship had everything the crew could need, as he looked he then saw something that made his mouth drop, he then said " No, this isn't real, y'all have a garden, an actual garden, I'm going to seperate and go look at this beauty". Jacob then walked away from the group and examined the fine looking vegetable that were big and juicy, the vegetables were bigger then anything he had ever seen, he picked off a tomato and took a juicy bite. From that moment Jacob knew he was going to love this place.

Collin took one last long look around at the crew and gave a thoughtful nod before turning to the ship.  It was magnificent.  There was no doubt that this ship was going to be just as impressive as it had been talked up to be.  As Jacob raced ahead to be the first to see each deck, Collin heard him exclaim something about a garden.  "An on-board garden?  I wasn't aware I'd be supplied with a garden.  Well I suppose that's excellent news."

Koi was running late, and she knew it very well. She had overslept, and now had to hurry up. As quick as she could, Koi strapped on her belt and grabbed all of her other belongings before rushing out the door. For a few seconds the room was peaceful, until she had to run in again to get Korgwork, who was startled to be grabbed away from his nap. Now having everything, Koi bolted out onto the streets and ran as fast as her legs could take her in the direction of the ship. It took about fifteen minutes to reach it, but she finally made it there, luckily without any incidents. Slowing down, she noticed the rest of the crew members were yet to board so she took a second to take a good look at the ship she was about to spend a long time on.

"I hope your not going to experiment on my garden" Jacob said nervously. Jacob was happy that everyone was getting along but he knew he was going to have trouble sharing the garden with Collin. "and if you are, please please PLEASE...be careful" jacob said so seriously that he could face a lion and not even be scared. Jacob then went to the edge of the ship took a long look at the city and smiled, as he was looking he saw a young woman looking at the ship, he then said "Can we help you??"

@Puggie @Collinbu98

Koi's ears twitched as she heard a voice directed towards her. She quickly looked towards the voice, finding another crew member. Korgsworks had just perched himself on her shoulder after continuously flying around her in circles. "Hey, uh, yeah. How late am I?" She mentally scolded herself for not introducing herself first so she wondered what this man already thought about her, seeing all she said was basically she slept in, which was of course true. "Sorry, I'm Koi Almeri. I am going to be a chef and a fighter for this ship."

@ewanesloco

When Jacob heard that there would be another chef on board, he became excited. "Are you serious, YES!! I've  always wanted to have a partner to make dishes with me. Well get up here, you'll love it" Jacob said. Jacob couldn't hardly wait to start preparing food but now he has a partner to help him so now he's filled with adrenaline and excitement. Jacob looked at the garden, and then back at her, he knew this would place was going to survive and they'd all be happy and they'd all survive, he knew all of them would face hardships, but he knew they'd all stick together.

@Puggie

Koi couldn't breathe for a second. Was she really that late. When he continued to talk, she let out breath of relief. She didn't even realize he hadn't answered her question. "You're also a chef? I didn't expect to meet another right away, but I guess you can't really predict much, right?" She followed him up and looked over at the garden. "Wow, there's even a garden to use? It's always more satisfying to harvest your own ingredients." It was at that moment that she knew, she hadn't gotten his name. "By the way, what is your name? It would be better to call you by that rather than just 'partner'."

@ewanesloco

Collin walked casually through the garden, barely holding himself back from jumping at each new plant he saw.  He hid his excitement well, though.  Though Collin never did have trouble hiding his excitement.  It was part of his job, being a scientist.  He did have a bit of trouble masking his emotions at Jacob's comment.  "I am a scientist!  Of course I shall be careful.  If anything, I may be able to crossbreed a few new species of fruits and vegetables."

Collin frowned as he noticed Jacob greeting yet another crew member.  Being this late for something so important?  Ah, well, Collin just hoped they had some sort of excuse.  Actually, Collin hoped it was another scientist.  Collin honestly wasn't sure if he could catalog, collect samples, and write on everything the team stumbled upon.  It was going to be hard enough just to take care of his specialty, plants.  Collin's hopes fell straight from the sky when he heard they were instead going to get another chef.  "I am definitely going to be sending a letter of complaint to whoever was in charge of arranging the people in this mission as soon as we get back from this,"  Collin complained, not even realizing he was speaking aloud.

Deciding not to dwell on the ridiculous job ratio, Collin approached the new member and extended his hand.  "My name is Collin.  I am the sole scientist for our journey, and I specialize in botany.  If you ever need any assistance with finding the right ingredients, or you just want to hear a couple of interesting facts, I'd be happy to oblige."

"My name is Jacob, I'm like the coolest one here but no one knows that but me" jacob said trying to be cool. Jacob never had time to make friends so he wanted Koi to be his friend so bad because he always wanted to be able to hang out with someone. When growing up, he never had time to do these things because he was always studying and working and he didn't have time for relationships, he knew that Koi and Collin and him would maybe be the three best friends that anyone could have or the three worst enemies Jacob jokingly thought.

Boarding Cloud Master proved to serve as a filtering method. Of the few who had signed on to the journey, even fewer had remained to this point. The contract only takes effect from the moment one steps onto the deck of the airship. Kifle swore into the contract without hesitation and confidently boarded the airship,  having extensive experience in the contractual obligations of the military and the great war machines. As final arrangements are made, Captain Tessema steps to formally introduce himself to his crew.

"Greetings, I am happy and I am joyful to have you being in my crew." Kifle but great effort in avoiding too much of his Nontle drawl as he addressed the crew in the beginning, but it always had a way of pronouncing itself.

"Ma' heart, my inside say me an' the ship, we guarantee our lives for you." Attempting to assure them he was a faithful captain.

From there, Kifle's speech only deteriorated until it required pseudo-translation. In the end, between Captain Tessema's men and the crew, they had all explained that Nontle scientists determined that in order to get through the portal safely, The Cloud Master would need to fly high in the air and gain as much momentum as possible in their descent. The airship would need to enter the swirling portal entrance at an angle,riding what was believed to be a "less volatile" streaming lane in the massive vortex. To put it simply, it was a dangerous maneuver, but it was their only chance of not being crushed instantly by an unpredictable jump in unbalanced momentum.

Kifle ordered the crew to their stations (if operating outside the helm) and to safely secure themselves. "An' now, if there be a question on your mind, you must free it from your head an' you must ask it, or we musta face our destiny."

"Is it time sir" jacob said excitingly. Jacob couldn't hardly contain himself, he was going to go through a portal to which no one has gone threw. Jacob wondered what would lay beyond, and as he was thinking he got frightened.

He didn't know what was beyond that portal and for all they know, they could just die on impact or there could be a giant monster that eats them, or they could contract a virus in there and wipe out the whole human population.

Koi smiled at him, slightly amused. He was going to be one interesting friend to have. She was about to suggest they go check out the kitchen soon when the captain started to speak. That was one hell of an accent he had there, and she liked it. After to speech, which she almost fully understood thanks to her father, Koi tapped Jacob on the shoulder before speaking. "I'm definitely ready, otherwise I wouldn't be here. How's 'bout we go ahead and see what kind of kitchen we'll be working in, since we don't have a job to do out here." She sounded a bit enthusiastic about it. Even if he wasn't going with her, she would still go to get a good look at it. After all, they should probably get used to how its set up before making any meals there.

(Sorry for being a bit slow, I was having a massive writer's block.)

It was only then that Collin realized over half the original crew had disappeared.  "Wait, are we sure all of the others have decided to back out at the last minute?  And why are we even allowed to back out, given the applications we had to fill out to get aboard this thing?"  This was very disturbing news.  On the bright side, though, Collin thought bitterly, at least that takes care of the too-many-engineers problem.

 Honestly, though, Collin was having his first thoughts about how their journey could fail.  He hadn't really thought about it before, as he had been sure that the ultimate safety precautions would be taken to keep this ship and all its crew safe.  But if the engineers didn't return, what would our crew do if the ship malfunctioned?  This thing seemed much too complex for the captain to be able to maintain it all by himself.  And even if he could, what if he were incapacitated?  Then there was the matter of the doctor.  They would most certainly need him, and even before most of the crew began to have second thoughts, we had only had one doctor.  Then another realization hit Collin:  He may end up responsible for keeping the crew healthy, with his knowledge of herbs if the doctor didn't appear.  That piled alongside Collin's original worries about being the only scientist...  If over half the crew was already backing down, maybe Collin should too...  No, Collin was a scientist!  This was his responsibility!  The journey of his life!  He needed to stay positive!

(Seriously, though, what are we going to do if the others don't show up?)

"I would love too, I haven't seen it yet and I've pretty excited" Jacob said. Jacob then walked over to Koi and opened the door for her to enter first, it's common ediquite to open a door for a girl and Jacob wanted to be polite and show her he was capable of being polite. Jacob then thought about where she came from, what kind of chef is she, does she specialize in any type of cooking, is she better at him then cooking, and in a second Jacob asked the question "Are you single?" Jacob then froze from embarrassment, he then said "wait, I didn't mean to say that, I meant to say what is your favorite dish to prepare?".
