Experiences Things You Didn't Know About RP?

I think I know the site they are talking about and that particular feature wasn’t particularly problematic (the people were a bit toxic though).

Yeah, sure, have post ranges that are clearly indicated, that's definitely not a bad thing. But any time I hear anyone refer to themselves or anyone else as "elite" it makes me want to throw up a little. It's so pretentious, and usually people that pretentious are actually not as good as they think they are. In this context, suggesting that people writing 6+ paras are somehow better than everyone else by describing it as "elite" is just wrong and also gross and, lol, elitist, and stuck-up and generally wanky. Doesn't surprise me in the least that there were toxic people there.

I also dislike when people use the word "veteran" for similar reasons. Just because you've done something a long time, doesn't mean you're good at it, and specifically doesn't mean you're better at it than other people. Which is always what it's used to imply.

Like some people think novella is like advanced lit where it’s multiple paragraphs per post. And some just mean one paragraph.

There can't be many people who think novella is only one paragraph per post?! Can there?!

Word counts are always the best way to describe length of post, with numbers of paragraphs in a close second. Keeps it simple and everyone know what they are doing.

Yup, I’m a transfer from Gaia - I was burned out and came here to recharge and get into a better mindspace.

I was an unfortunate scrub. Every time I either joined an ‘elite’ role play or found a partner that had ‘advanced-lit/elite’ in their search thread - I was in for a ‘mind-screwing’ experience. (I pumped out some of my best work for these folks only to get my teeth kicked in.)

As for the ranking system...it was pretty stationary, but there was still some deviation in the writing totals. Some of the elite peeps I ran into had a minimum requirement of 12 paragraphs or 1k word count - for every post unless it was dialogue/interaction heavy - but even then it was like...500 word minimum? And some groups/individuals wanted more than that. (I have a foggy memory of a group wanting a 2.5k intro post...)

I think I’ve called myself an RP veteran before. =/ It wasn’t to say I was better - just to say I know the lingo, how things work in most scenarios, that I’ve got some horror stories under my belt, and some accompanying ‘writer’s trauma’ . XD

When I first started role playing in ‘06, I was very confused by the jargon and text-speech abbreviations. (I didn’t understand ‘U/C’ meant ‘under construction’, for example. )
Then I got confused by the ranking system on the site I originally started on. Semi-lit, literate, literate-advanced, elite - headache fuel.
And then making ‘pretty posts’ came into fashion...where I learned basic BB coding just to stay ‘in the game’. They were still pretty ugly and more than one partner made post layouts for my characters. (Not because I asked either - they were just bothered by how unsightly my formats were. XD )

I feel you. To be fair, that happens on this site though. I've met more then a few people that tend to disregard sheets or post because they aren't coded. Its one of the things I hate, people's weird obsession with appearance over substance, which is why I never code anything! You get times new roman and, I may, just may, throw a random gif at the top of the post centered as a break if needed. They may not say anything, but in some discord somewhere, they are complaining.

If they get mad and offer to code the post for you?

Just say no, you like it as it is and send them a friendly gif like:

I cannot believe you would doubt my leet skills. For shame, good sir, for shame.

Early RP experiences with me was that I had issues with unknowingly godmodding and sometimes going OOC on accident. I was still young and learning at that time.

After all, in our RP journeys, we all start from somewhere and I've learned alot over the years.
