Thieving Hearts

Jack looked confused and so Maggie stopped talking. "I can contact some other angels and see if there is anyone here to help us," she explained. She pulled out her phone. the screen flashed the words "Battery Dead, Please Charge" before going black. She shoved her phone back in her pocket. "It's dead," She told Jack.

(It's cool. There is a life outside of RpN. Who would've guessed?)

Maggie observed Jack stealing, but didn't intervene or say anything. Personally, she would've just stolen the clothes, but Jack's method worked well, too. "We'll find a way to get you back to Boston," she promised. There should be other Guardian Angels there that could help, but Maggie didn't know where to find them. She couldn't even speak French fluently. She followed Jack as he searched for a motel.

The woman who rented Jack and Maggie a room reminded Maggie of Fisher, an ancient guardian angel who spent most of his time fishing at the different lakes and rivers. When they got to room 34, Maggie claimed the bed by the single, grimy window and plugged in her phone. "As soon as it charges, I'll try to call up some of my friends," she told Jack. "They're... like me," she added, meaning that they were also guardian angels.

After Jack took a shower, Maggie took one herself, carefully preening her feathers afterwards. When she was done, she checked her phone. She sent a quick text to some close friends, a falcon and her twin, Cassie and Kasey, and a parrot, Sunny: Umm... I'm in France. Some help would be fantastic. Pretty soon her phone buzzed, with replies. Cassie replies with: *Squeals!* Lucky! I wanna go to France! Kasey said: You know, I'm not even gonna ask. Where are you? I'll get the group up there. Maggie texted them the address. Sunny replied later with: R U still single? Maggie rolled her eyes and chuckled to herself. The responses didn't surprise her at all. Kasey was practical and no-nonsense. Cassie was a hopeless romantic. Both were strong and sarcastic. Sunny flirted with every female he found. He always had, and probably always would. The phone buzzed again with a message from Cassie: So is he cute? ;) I WANT PICS!!<3 Wouldn't it be cool if U 2 fell in love!? It'd be the perfect crime if you stole each other's hearts! I SHIP IT!!

"Relax. I just contacted some friends. Do you trust me or not?" Maggie said defensively, switching screens so that Jack wouldn't see Cassie's message. "They'll head over here to come help." The phone buzzed again, and Maggie opened the message from Kasey: If he was in prison, he won't be able to get on a plane. Security will stop him. We need another way to get him back home. Boston, right? Maggie typed back: Ya.

Sunny texted with: Talked to Kase and Cass, on our way, be there tomorrow AM.

The phone buzzed again. A text from Cassie read:
Still waiting on pics!!

Maggie sighed and typed: No! You'll meet him tomorrow. She turned to Jack. "They'll be here tomorrow morning. Kasey will have a plan to get you back to Boston. You won't be able to fly on a plane, though, since they'll be looking for you."

(It's all good.)

"We won't carry you, then," Maggie assured Jack.

She glanced around the room for a T.V. or something. She saw, on the opposite side of the room, a radio. She turned it on and flipped through the stations until she found a local news station. "- still don't know the whereabouts of Jack Howitzer. Police believe that he is not alone, and is traveling with a woman. It is unknown who she is or if she is with Howitzer of her own free will. Jack is considered very dangerous. Civilians are instructed to remain alert, but not confront him. The woman with him may have been abducted.

Police also discovered a feather in Jack's cell. The feather came from a black-billed magpie. Magpies are a type of Corvid, and related to crows and ravens. These intelligent birds maybe trained for various purposes. The detective on the case suggests that outsiders may have trained a magpie to deliver messages, supplies, or even information to Jack." Maggie stopped and stared at Jack. They didn't have much time.
