" _Mommy, Daddy! I want this story! This one!_ "
In a small towns bookshop a young seven year old girl with short jet black raven hair and dark almost black brown eyes stared starstruck at the picture book held in her hands pale hands. The book was a cute story about an obese yellow bear that was trying to teach the entire woods about the importance of his obsession with food, specifically honey. The name of this secretly haunted story? Winnie The Pooh. Despite the strange honesty of the story the little girl was drawn to it's bright whimsical colors and so was blinded, unable to see the sad tale beneath the happy venue. The young girl ran to her mother, a tall beautiful woman with light chocolate colored hair and deep emerald green eyes that everyone always commented on saying that they could freeze a race car in it's tracks with just one glance. As soon as the little girl was at her mothers side she reached up with her short arms about to grasp her mothers pale pink flower printed shirt when her hands were smacked down.
" _And just what do you think you were about to touch? You didn't actually think you were going to lay your stubby germy fingers on my brand new designer shirt did you? And just what is this?_ "
Her mother grabbed the picture book out of her daughters hands roughly takings look through it quickly rolling her perfectly shaped eyes as her thin, manicured, pink painted finger nailed fingers turned the pages in boredom. She looked in disappointment at her daughter, the gaze wavering slightly between disappointment and disgust she leaned down slowly until she was at the height of her young child who was used to this treatment and stared in blankness back into the depths of her mother's eyes. The mother stared straight back as if waiting for the girl to crack her gaze away and run away, however she didn't she just looked stiffly at her. The mother glared harshly until finally the younger girl started to tear up about to cry, the mother smirked and grabbed her daughters face.
" _Honestly Elizabeth, half the time I doubt you're my own daughter, those dark eerie eyes are soulless that burnt short choppy hair is dead and gone so quit your stupid crying over a story book. You have bigger problems that deserve your tears._ "

Once home, Elizabeth raced her way to her bedroom on the second floor of her house storybook in hand thanks to her father who bought the book quickly to reduce the conflict that was forming in public. Her mother had no repercussions of course on the way home she threw a fit about not having any new scarves for the winter season and so the father stopped the car at a near by boutique as Elizabeth and her father waited in silence til she returned in a much happier mood many bags in hand. Elizabeth didn't wish to think about the day and instead retired to her bedroom where nothing was real, at least that was what she had determined her bedroom wall was lined with mythical fantasy tales that she loved. Each of them of a different meaning and topic, each of them filled with endless, bright, and whimsical colors Elizabeth smiled at her wall of make-believe holding her new addition to her chest possessively. As she walked silently but hastily to her bed to indulge in her new story, however she was caught off guard when she saw sitting idly on her nightstand was a book, curious she placed Winnie The Pooh on the bed and picked up the book carefully. It was thicker than her other stories and there didn't seem to be any pictures, even knowing that though Elizabeth felt the need to read it, it drew her closer than any other storybook she owned had ever done. The name of this consuming story? Alice In Wonderland.
Six years later Elizabeth was just as haunted with Alice In Wonderland as Pooh was honey, instead of her room filled with various varieties of fantasy stories they were lined with any and all Alice In Wonderland merchandise. Posters of the strange story hung happily against her walls and as always sat the book that started it all, Elizabeth never left home without it to her it was the most amazing creation there ever was. It was winter again, a harsh one at that snow stuck to the ground as if it was super glued and Elizabeth sat alone in her room listening to her mother and father as they argued. The fight wasn't anything of importance, her mom wanted the fireplace lit because it was freezing her father said no due to the fact that the fireplace was extremely old and wasn't very trust worthy, he said it could catch the entire house on fire. Elizabeth held her stuffed white rabbit named Time closely, he was a gift from her father given to her ninth birthday, she fell in love with Time seeing him as the white rabbit from Alice In Wonderland therefore he was very precious to her. Elizabeth knew her father was right, the fireplace was quite old and it was dangerous to light it.
*_I've lost myself in make-believe_*
*_I don't wanna go, I don't want to go, make me_*
*_Over and over I've deceived_*
*_I don't wanna go, I don't want to go_*
That very night her mother while her husband was asleep slipped downstairs and lit the fireplace quickly, it flickered small embers landing on the ground popping off the wood however she simply walked back upstairs satisfied with the heat radiating from the fire she went to bed. It didn't take long for the fire to spread after that, the entire lower half of the house was in no time consumed in flames, Elizabeth awoke to the sound of screaming and the smell of smoke. In the corner of her eyes she could swear she saw a black and white tail flickering before it disappeared in the thick smoke, she coughed climbing out of bed, grabbing her book and Time before rushing out of her room. The scene before her was horrifying to anyone, she looked in devastation as wood and flames burned high and on the ground right in front of her door was her own father, his dark kind brown eyes were scorched with fear as laid still, a wooden board still on fire stuck out of his chest awkwardly.
A high pitch scream echoed through the home ripping Elizabeth back away from her father and to the burning staircase though it didn't seem the most appealing choice she had to go, dead people couldn't read. So Elizabeth took a risky step forward before breaking into a run flames nipped harshly at her skin burning her as she coughed continuously, leaning on the railing for support. Suddenly a hand grabbed her arm, a perfectly manicured pink finger nail colored hand, her mother gripped her hand harshly holding tight enough for bruises to form.
" _If you think..y..you'll... Get...a..away.. You've got an..anot-_ "
A large spike of wood came crashing down into her mothers face, the wood forced her to let go and blood spattered onto Elizabeth, then immediately after policemen and firefighters rushed in they screamed for survivors spraying down the flames. Elizabeth ran down the stairs forgetting the scene before her and running to the firefighters in urgency, they grabbed her quickly lifting her to the police and getting her out the house away from the smoke. Immediately Elizabeth was questioned about the fire, what she thought caused it, if someone could have caused it, if someone did cause it who she thought it would be. However, Elizabeth's attention was to her burning home, it was starting to fall apart the windows had broke minutes ago from the wood breaking them, soon the police realized they couldn't get anything from her and went to investigate somewhere else. Time sat in Elizabeth's lap and Elizabeth held her book close possessive of one of the two items she managed to save she rubbed the toy rabbit softly feeling his smooth fur in between her fingers. Time seemed captivated in the view of the burning home as well and so the two of them watched the destruction together
*_You want reform? I can't conform_*
*_Cause I can't take anymore of your tainted bliss cause_*
It had been two years since the fire, Elizabeth was now thirteen and had counted each day by drawing sticks on her red walls with purple her marker, she was moved to her Aunt's home which was significantly smaller than what Elizabeth was used to but she didn't speak about it, in fact she didn't speak much unless she was reading Alice In Wonderland or talking to Time. Her Aunt hated Time, when Elizabeth first moved in her Aunt had said that the rabbit had to leave, its blue button eye's were 'soulless' in the aunts words. Elizabeth combated with the argument of once Time left she would leave too, since her aunt did somewhat care for Elizabeth she allowed the rabbit to stay under the rules that he would be with Elizabeth and never near her. Elizabeth agreed, never intending to leave Time alone anyway, Time was her white rabbit and she wasn't going to loose him, ever.
" _911, What's your emergency?_ "
" _Uh, Yes hello? I think there's something wrong with the house next door to me_"
" _Wrong? What's wrong there ma'am?_ "
" _It's just been eerie there for awhile now..I was nervous because I used to hangout over there sometimes but when I knocked on the door there was no answer. The woman who lives there, Julia, she's taking care of her niece and I'm just very worried and would like someone to check it out_"
" _Alright ma'am just wait there for a moment and the authorities will be there shortly_ "
An hour later a police car arrived at the home riding slowly across the rough concrete driveway. The man soon came out the car and looked over the house carefully, he didn't look all too worried about the house and simply sighed before going to the green painted front door and knocking.
" _Hello? Nevada Police Department, I'm here investigating your home here. We got a call of suspension._ "
There was nothing, just an empty silence that echoed throughout the neighborhood only interrupted by the birds that calling out to each other. The cop took out his walkie talkie speaking into it and requesting back up because he was about to attempt to go inside the house. Slowly reaching out to the golden doorknob he placed his back hand on the handle of his gun, he could tell something was definitely wrong here something was off.
" _I'm entering your house_ "
Once he opened to door and looked at the scene before him, the wretched irony stench of blood filled the house also in the mix was the small of decaying human and mold, riddled all over the ground was stuffing from Elizabeth's own beloved rabbit. But that wasn't what shocked him most, no what was the most terrifying picture in front of him was something that he was sure would haunt him for the rest of his life. There sitting at the end of the hallway sat Elizabeth, she was covered in blood and the entire ground where she sat was covered in it too Elizabeth was unmoved by the policemen and continued sitting in the hallway looking down at the book in her lap. She held an amused smile on her lips as she giggled lightly, turning the pages with her clean fingers.
*_I've lost myself in make-believe_*
Elizabeth was locked in solitary confinement for months, the police couldn't put her in jail because for some reason the only proof was her covered in the blood, there was none of her own blood, no violent fingerprints, nothing to suggest the Elizabeth was the murderer. This annoyed and stopped everyone on the case, it didn't help that Elizabeth continuously read Alice In Wonderland as if she didn't hear the officers at all. After the book was taken Elizabeth started singing to herself, still not answering questions and simply staring at a wall in what seemed like ignorant bliss. She sang her song happily and lightly as of it was a nursery rhythm rather than a song of delusion, perhaps the happy tune blinded her as the bright colors had done so many years ago. Or perhaps Elizabeth was insane, it was what many had remarked to her face and to her back either way it was your call to make. You had to been hired as a specialist to check Elizabeth's sanity and accountability to the murder, both to her parents and her aunt. You, yourself were very interested in this case and had researched deeply into it aiming to gain as much information as possible your own goal being to save this girl from the brink of insanity or try to understand what she might have a hard time saying. You didn't get called into cases often, only for serious situations so for them to call you meant that they were truly stumped, the police loathed asking for outside help.
Today was the day that you were to meet Elizabeth and you were to evaluate her, you couldn't hide your excitement as cases that were mind boggling like this were hard to come by. You navigated your way through the investigation building, walking into the solitary confinement center and reaching your hand to room 1923 and creaking it open so you could see her, enough light came through that she could see you as well. Elizabeth was singing lightly and she continued when you came in, she smiled looking at you her voice stopping the melody as she looked at you before opening her small mouth back up again to speak.
" _Oh Hatter, you've finally made it._ "
