Wouldn't it be interesting if we started and then like when a new vessel joins, they get introduced to our rag tag group of vessels as having been recently collected?

They do! Most of the poisons and elixir are crafted by Alchemists in the branches of the Miners. You'll be a great addition to our group.

Your character looks great so far, but there are a few things off. Nothing major.
One, the gems only got their power recently. No earlier than like a month from the current day.
Two, not being able to master his flight isn't really a drawback from them. But, maybe if you did, like, that it randomly activates when his head is up in the clouds, daydreaming. Or, that, maybe, starting to fly is easy, but stopping takes time or requires something be done first so sometimes, he is stuck flying for a while. Or maybe his power requires him to have a slow, steady heartbeat to allow him flight.
Lastly, I am missing soething in your character sheet from the rules
