What's your favorite scary movie?
halloween comes once a year. anyone who loves a good scare will be excited when october thirty first comes around. but after that one day, the night where terror reigns disappears for another three hundred and sixty five days.
what if it didn't? what if there was a place where the horror remained all year round?
brookfield, new hampshire. a small, quaint town in the very middle of nowhere. not many people know it exists except those who live there and small amount of others who use it as a vacation retreat.
on the outside, brookfield looks like your relatively normal small town. but it's what you can't see that frightens you, isn't it?
the people who live there refuse to admit that anything goes on in the darkness at night in brookfield. is it that they are scared or that they themselves are part of it?
brookfield is said to be the homes of supernatural beings; ghosts haunt the streets, blood hungry beings watch with flashing eyes, and a coven of witches has their home upon the gallows hill. supposedly, there is even a hideous monster living out in the woods, always hungry for new flesh. but no matter what, the people deny everything to people on the outside.
screams are heard at night, animals vanish suddenly, writing in blood covers the walls. people are used to it by now though. even when someone is found murdered in brookfield, they shrug it off like it was nothing. the murders usually stop at one.
but what if they don't?
more and more murders are being committed; people who came in from the outside, and people who have lived their entire lives in brookfield. the people are getting freaked. are the supernatural beings committing these atrocious murders? what is it that they want? Why won't they just leave brookfield alone?
they call him 'the brookfield slasher'. a figure that's never been seen haunts the town like a spirit. everyone fears his name and his blood stained blades. he kills without question, human and supernatural alike. the town bends to his will, hoping that they won't be the next one on his hit list.
who is the brookfield slasher? why is he doing this?
the bigger question here is: are you next?

the town of brookfield is home to about two thousand inhabitants, with up to five hundred different vacationers during the year. not many people move to brookfield, just as not many people move out of it. many of the descendants from the original settlers still live with the town limits.
the town used to set with a valley, but with the disappearance of the hills that surround it, it now settles on flat land. the town itself is on the banks on the lake wendigano, a large, seemingly fresh water that is two hundred square miles in area. the lake is amazingly clear, which one of the focal points of visitors.
however, the lake, like the rest of the town, is special in its own way. not only is it home for many different and deadly creatures, it is also able to house both fresh water and salt water creatures. year sago, a warlock cast a spell over the water to allow mermaids to stay within the sanctuary, and it has remained that way ever since.
the town looks fairly quaint, with square blocks, lots of trees, and a hometown feel. not many people actually live in town; many of them have houses outside of the town's actual limits. there are also many houses on the lake, mostly vacation cabins.
to the south and the west lies the old forest, a dense, thick area of trees full of deadly secrets, including that of old howler. not many people like to spend time in the depths of that maze.
there is only one hill left in brookfield, and it bears the name of gallows hill. years ago, coven of supposed witches was hanged upon that hill, and the name stuck. it's the home of the original pendragon estate, only with the brookfield bluff cemetery, filled with dull and void spirits.
brookfield is zoned for its own middle and high schools, and surrounding townships drive in to attend.

brookfield, new hampshire was founded back in 1617 by english settlers who "felt drawn to the very spot", as they wrote in their logbooks.
obviously, you might be thinking, if you know new hampshire history well, wasn't brookfield in 1778? how is it possible that it was founded nearly one hundred and sixty one years earlier than what the history books say?
the town wasn't discovered by any outsiders until one hundred and sixty one years later, and magic certain came into play in keeping the town's secrets safe.
the land that brookfield was built on is what the natives call ultoö cheena; land of the spirits. obviously, the settlers felt that these stories were rubbish- otherwise if they did, we would have no town to be talking about.
back then, it was called brookfield bluff, on account for the small valley the town sat in and the large hills that surrounded it..
the first couple of years, the town lived in peace and quiet. they farmed from their fields, hunted in the forest, fished from the lake. they tried to trade with the abenaki, but the natives refused anything that had come out of that part of the land. the settlers, about 500 in number, found themselves isolated from the rest of the known english colonies.
however, five years into the settlement, things began to change for the people of brookfield bluff. you see, the abenaki were right in calling this the land of the spirits. those who died on this soil couldn't always leave for the other life, trapped and bound to the land. the majority of spirits was what called the creatures to it. it was safe ground, the spirits providing protection for all those hunted by humanity if they so wished. for centuries before, they had lived on this land, trying to get peace. that is, only some of them tired to do that. others wanted blood.
some started to blend in with the humans, some started to carry them off into the forests at night, never to be seen again. the townsfolk began to worry, but they only started freaking out until they found their leader, james pendragon, murdered.
leaving his wife, lillian oglethorpe-pendragon, in charge.
the answer was obvious to everyone as to who killed the man, but lillian pretended to feel sorrow for the man who beat her and abused her. she became the new leader- opposition faded away when she ordered the execution of three men that tried to overthrow her. on many occasions, the woman was accused of being a witch- which she was- but no one who accused her ever lived long enough to testify against her.
and so, life went on. no one dared come or go for a long while, and they began to grow accustomed to the odd happenings surrounding them. lillian had become to come and go every sixty years as to avoid suspicion, allowing for the old generation to go and the new generation to spring up, always coming back to claim her seat on gallows hill.
1676- the beast of brookfield bluff makes his bloody appearance. no one knew what it was or where it came from, but they knew it haunted the forests surrounding the town. they also knew if they took to long coming home at night, they wouldn't be seen again. little did they know the creature was a werehound, and that werehound served the alpha witch of the town. but as time carried on, the story of old howler became a legend, a ghost story made up to scare children. how naive they once were.
they moved on with history; the forming of the united states of america. in 1787, a member of brookfield even represented the state in washington. yet, it still remained quite secluded, perhaps for the better.
over the years, brookfield bluff became brookfield, due to the fact that overnight, just like that- the hills surrounding the little town vanished. poof! no one could quite understand how they could just disappear overnight; of course, it would make more sense if they knew what had been living underneath those hills.
the nephilim.
present day, brookfield is a vacation spot. not overcrowded popular, but being on a stunning, clear lake has its perks. newcomers come and go, and the natives now don't bat an eye. if someone hears a rumor about a strange murder caused by seemingly something supernatural, they laugh and shake their heads.
most people know what goes on in the shadows of brookfield. most people don't say anything about it. why? maybe they are afraid..... or they are protecting their own secret.
however, late 2012, the reign of the brookfield slasher started. no one knows where he came from, or who he is, or why he does what he does. he strikes fear even into the hearts of those who have lived in the haunted town their entire lives. so many people have gone missing or been killed; the body count keeps piling up.
the town is about to experience what would be considered as the golden age of brookfield. it may not seem like a golden age now, but in comparison to the future, it will seem like the best time of these peoples' lives.
