Plot
-
Loosely based on Stephen King's novel, Joyland, this roleplay is focused around a group of college students who have found work at a seaside amusement park for the summer. Ready for a season of work amidst hoards of screaming children, teenagers with questionable degrees of sobriety, and the ever present, unmistakable scent of fried food before classes start back up in the fall, they come from all over carrying with them varying degrees of preparedness and enthusiasm. Sounds innocent enough, right?
But, as always with these kinds of things, there's a twist.
In 1969, Star Beach amusement park experienced the busiest night of its entire career. On the night of July 8, 1969, with the park packed to full capacity for its centennial celebration, it came as no surprise that no one noticed the disappearance of a single man. It wasn't until the following morning that the body of Ichabod Newel was found by an unfortunate park employee, hanging from the topmost car of the Ferris wheel by the deceased's own colon. Extensive investigations were carried out to track down the killer, but they were never found. On the upside, things quieted down substantially after that, with no over-the-top criminal activity spiking up for quite some time.
It has been five years since the Newel murder. The 1974 season at Star Beach begins with no out of the ordinary occurrences. Everything seems to be running smoothly. However, when one group of acquaintances digs too deep, when new information begins to come to light, a peaceful three months of employment down at the boardwalk turns into a fight for survival, a game of life and death against a killer who is still lurking in the shadows, even after all these years.

Setting
-
This roleplay will be set in the summer of 1974, mainly in two locations, both fictional. The first, of course, is the Star Beach amusement park, positioned on a boardwalk at the seaside. The second will be the small town of Harlot, where our characters will be living for the duration of their employment in various boarding houses. Both locations are located on the outskirts of the city of Wilmington, North Carolina.
More specific locations within Harlot and the layout of Star Beach will be posted in a "Locations" tab when the actual thread is posted.

Notes
-
Hello! I see you're interested (or not) in this rp! Here are just a few more quick points that I need to get across for now. More will be explained later, I promise.
- Though murder(s) will indeed be an integral part of this rp, they will not be the only focus. Day to day life and the development of all characters will also be very important! So there will be sweet and happy moments as well.
- The park will have different sections, with groups of employees to run each section. Our group will either be assigned to Horrorland, the section of the park dedicated to haunted houses and thrill rides, or the main section, which houses calmer, major rides such as the Ferris wheel and which was the sight of th murder. I'll let you all vote on that one. (there will also be a section for children's rides and a couple more, but those will not be too major in terms of plot.)
- This is a detailed rp, so at least two paragraphs per post would be nice, but i understand that sometimes there isn't much to say, so there will be exceptions.
- Please only sign up if you will be dedicated. I know a lot of us drop RPs without warning sometimes (I myself am guilty of this) and that things come up, but please don't sign up if you know for sure you won't have time. If something does come up, no hard feelings.
- Please be kind. I cannot stress this enough.
- NPCs will play a major role in this rp. Like the locations, a detailed list of them will be provided in the "neutral characters" tab of the main thread.
- House mates will be assigned.
- Establishing relationships, be it friendships, animosity, or romances between yours and the characters of others, and even NPCs, is encouraged! Just make sure to make them believable and well developed.
- Include everyone! If you see someone without someone to interact with, try and include them in what you're doing, if possible.
- You will be solving this murder (and possibly and murders that ensue during the rp.) Plenty of evidence will be provided, both by NPCs and by us, your GM's, and our characters.
- This is a lot and I'm sorry.
- My co-GMs are @AbstractAnnabella and @Rida . They're sweethearts so be sure to say hey.
- It is possible that not everyone will be accepted, depending on how many people we feel we need, but don't let that stop you from applying, as this is not first come first serve.
- Any questions, come to one of us and we'd be happy to help.
Thank you for your interest, and we hope to see you signing up!
