This thread is for posting character profiles for the Soul Keepers roleplay. Feel free to post here first as a way of applying to the roleplay, though please note that approval will be confirmed either through the Discord server or via a mention in the OOC thread.   Short and wispy, bleached white in colour. Tends to peek out from behind their mask and hat at the back of their head. Has a few white feathers producing from the sides of their face and hidden amongst their hair, though these are usually only visible when Stryx fluffs them up.

  Usually hidden behind their mask. Reportedly their eyes are a single, solid colour of black, including the sclera, though this has yet to be confirmed for most Keepers that cross paths with them. Stryx additionally seems to have a little trouble with reading small text, suggesting that they're supposed to have some form of reading glasses that they rarely, if ever, wear.

  Tall and lanky in build, with unnaturally long and talon-like hands sometimes visible when they have their gloves removed. Stryx additionally has a set of feathered wings that jut out from their back, which they seem to be able to summon or dismiss at will. Said wings have dark feathering on the arms that fades to a light grey colour at the tips. According to Stryx, they're meant to reflect a species of vulture.

  Stryx is nearly always seen in their Reaper attire, which is heavily reminiscent of historical plague doctor uniforms. Said uniform covers their entire form, making it difficult to discern many of their features. Sometimes they can be found in more casual attire, but they seem to have a particular fondness for the hat and mask combination and will continue to wear both even outside of their working hours. Stryx appears to be fond of a particular shade of mint-green, and often likes to accent their fashion choices and accessories with it when given the chance. He also can often be found with a simple walking cane, which has a blade hidden within for if he ever requires it while working or in self defense.

  Unknown, though there are rumours floating around that part of the reason why they opt to wear the mask all the time is that it retains heavy scarring from their past. Stryx seemingly has very little to say on the matter when asked about the fondness for their mask, beyond a suspicious change of subject manner whenever someone tries to bring up the topic.

    Stryx's strengths often lie in their unwavering curiosity and an underlying desire to help others with whatever it is that ails them. He has been known in the past to achieve things that seemed hopeless or impossible to discover the answers to through sheer determination, and despite his past has seemingly never lost his compassion for others.

    Though generally meaning well, sometimes Stryx's enthusiasm can prompt them to poke their nose into the business of others where it isn't really wanted. They also can run the risk of hyper-focusing on a situation they are trying to solve, and tend to get frustrated with themself or snappy at others when they are struggling. Generally speaking, despite constant advice towards others to ask for help if they need it, Stryx seems to struggle with reaching out for it himself when it is needed.

    While Stryx does not seem to have any known deep-seated phobias, they do seem to be uneasy when not wearing their full work attire. The mask in particular is what he seems the most attached to, and he will seemingly go to great lengths to otherwise conceal his face should anything remove or damage it to the point of revealing said face.

  High-energy and inquisitive by nature, when not working their usual role Stryx can often be found hovering over the shoulder of some newly-arrived soul and asking questions about the life they have just lived. He is an amiable sort with a drive to want to help others in whichever way is available to him, whether that's by directing them to the departments they need or by trying to find the answers himself.
  
  Stryx has notably flitted between a few jobs as a Soul Keeper since arriving in The Crossroads, seemingly never quite settled with one position when other positions can offer so much more to him. Currently they work as a Reaper, finding the position a good excuse to be in the Mortal Realm frequently and try catch up on all the modern developments that they feel they are missing out on. Like their other past roles though, there is a good chance that they'll again want to try something new after a few decades have passed for them.
  
  They like to be a problem-solver, which can lead them to being a very compassionate individual but also not necessarily knowing when to tone-down the attempts to help nor having good judgement on whether they always should try to work with someone. They also tend to take to criticisms and failure to help to heart very easily as a result, which can lead to phases of self-doubt or, more likely, a crankier attitude towards their fellow coworkers. Outside of these moments though Stryx is generally a sociable sort of being and happy to chat to anyone that seems receptive to it, though he does seem to shy away a little from larger crowds or those that he considers to be too rambunctious for his tastes.

  Stryx's memories of their past are reportedly a little fuzzy these days, especially their childhood years. From what he can recall he believes he was born in what would now be referred to as the Renaissance era, to a family of comfortable wealth. Likewise, they recall being afforded the option to seek an education, and that their profession was something related to the medical field. Judging from their attire many have concluded that they were a plague doctor during their lifetime. A notion that Stryx does not necessarily deny, but at the same time reportedly feels that there is 'something not quite right' about that statement that has seemingly vexed him for quite a while. Or, rather, that they were indeed a doctor, but that they had a secondary job that they no longer remember the details of.
  
  He doesn't believe he ever had a spouse, though he does remember a fond connection with one or two individuals in his lifetime. Likewise they know that they never had any biological children, but do have distant memory of adopting a niece and nephew after their sibling succumbed to an illness. Said family have all, presumably, moved on to the Beyond realms by now, leaving Stryx with little else to remember them by beyond a distant heartache and a few small trinkets that they left behind.

  Like the story of their life, Stryx regards their death as a fairly unremarkable compared to the stories that other keepers have shared. He knows he died from a disease he had been trying to research a cure for at the time, likely contracting it from one of his patients. They claim that, mercifully, they don't remember many of the details of the actual sickness though, beyond the fact that it took them relatively quickly.

  Stryx was an individual that adapted fairly quickly and eagerly to the concept of becoming a Soul Keeper, all things considered. As per their desire to help others their first role was that of a Resolver, but they soon found that they disliked the restrictions placed on them and needing to wait for the will of Fate to approve or disapprove actions. Stryx has since then dappled in a few other roles that were made available to him, including an Archivist and a Greeter for those first entering The Crossroads, before settling eventually on his current role as a Reaper.
  
  Though Reapers can technically be assigned to any collection case, as per their old profession Stryx typically deals with the collection of souls that have passed due to sickness. As part of his role he has developed a talent for forensic work in regards to confirming the circumstances around one's death, and additionally is sometimes sent out to inspect and collect data for records when causes are unknown.
  
  During his time as a Resolver he was assigned the soul of a raven that he named Omen, whom he partnered with in order to track down certain targets. Said raven still resides with him as a companion, though it is rare for him to take them out on assignments as a Reaper these days. Stryx has also made friends with a Guardian by the name of Whisper in more recent years, a moth-like being with whom they often would bump into at the library in their respective off-hours.

  Omen

  A raven that was assigned to him as part of his early Resolver work, and now functions as a sort of familiar. Tends to shy away from others unless she is used to them, so is rarely seen outside of Stryx's residence these days.

  Whisper

  A shy, moth-like Guardian whom Stryx shares a friendship with. The two sometimes hang out together at the library after hours, and both have bonded over their mutual enjoyment of the art of embroidery.

Standing at a heigh of 5'6", Carnival is a young woman who carries herself with a carefree air and a joyful bounce on her steps. She likes wearing pastel outfits and dying her hair with multiple colors- with her currents ones being red and pink. She has soft features adorned by green eyes and light freckles, with different colorful stickers dotting her face every single day. At first glance, it'd be hard to believe that this mischievous-looking girl is in charge of transporting spirits from one realm to another.

PSYCHE
PERSONALITY: Carnival is known to bring light to the solemness of the crossroads with her bright and easygoing personality. She's been described as someone who can bring comfort to lost spirits with her childlike wonder and genuine desire to help. Of course, she can also bring great discomfort to beings who'd rather not have anyone poking their nose in their businesses. Unfortunately, translating social cues has never been Carnival's strongest suit; in fact, she can be as dense as a brick wall at times which has kindled a lot of frustrations from her peers. Nonetheless, she means well and loves socializing, often frequenting the entertainment district of the Crossroads and seeping into different social groups alongside her trusty pet gecko - Richard.

TIME MACHINE
HISTORY: During her mortal years, Carnival, legally known as Lily Ramos, was born and raised to a humble family living in a province of the Philippines. It was mostly just her and her parents so they loved doting on her- even buying her a pet gecko on her sixth birthday after she threw a tantrum for not having one. It went without saying that they were pretty much a close-knitted family who would do anything for one another. Lily led an average lifestyle for the most of her life, an average student who would occasionally make it to the honor roll, a regular kid who would laze around and put off chores, and eventually a standard intern in a tech company after her graduation.
