Fandom The Seven Swords; Whispers of War

Elves are ma at dwarves because they believe the dwarves intentionally attacked some of their supply routes. Some distinctly elven towns are having major rationing problems due to this. Most of what you know is rumors, however, and that is why you go to the palace, to find out more about it.

Stormhelm is mostly dwarves.

Races are spread out pretty evenly around the continent.

Not all humans are mad at everyone. The western province of Cavryn is almost completely inhabited by humans, and the west is experiencing the brunt of the nightmares. Some sort of magical disturbance is emanating from the west, and the westerners think everyone is at fault.

I'll be back in a week unfortunately, I truly hope there is still a spot left for me? Or, if not, I could just be an extra you know? Either way, I really want to be apart of this... I like forward to returning, see you all in six days.

Hey, I'm going to submit character sheet in a bit, is it alright if my character has a dog? It won't fight (unless you allow it to) it would be there mainly for character development and such. I was thinking of making it his only friend, if not I'll just add that the dog is missing or something and his intro can be him searching for it.

Beginning CS today, sorry for the wait, so excited to get back into RPing!

Since this is a D&D based RP, it is plenty possible for our characters to die right? Like... Hardcore risks?

I just was wondering a few things for stats and spells.

What exactly are the stat modifiers for? I'm also confused about the spell rules. What exactly does it mean when it says something like 1d6 dmg in the spell description?

The stat modifiers depend on the character you choose, so people can better focus on what their characters are good at. The second question is more complicated, so before I answer, I need to know how much you know about DnD. Do you know about initiative rolls, character checks, and damage rolls?

I'm also kind of confused about how combat will work IC, but 1d6 means you roll 1 6 sided die and whatever number comes up is the damage you deal

I am embarrassed to say this, but I have never played D&D before. As much as I've wanted to, I have not.

It's basically a way to ensure fuck ups can occur out of your control while role playing. Without "success rolls", it can be very easy to forget to let your character fail every once in a while. Whether it's a backfired spell, or a swing in the wrong direction, having the dice takes some amount of control out of your hands. Same goes for the strengths of the spells we have. My fire spell is 1d4 first turn, and then another the next. This means I can do a total of anywhere from 2 to 8 damage, dependant on the dice rolls.

Throughout the game, the different types of dice rolls will progress.
On a d 20, if you roll a....

1: You not only fail, but fail in a way that makes everyone laugh

2: You completely fail, and have a small chance of hurting yourself

3-9: An average failure, not self-destructive or damaging

10-18: An average success, not especially good or bad

19: Extremely good success, better outcome than expected

20: You not only succeed, but make everyone jealous

After you roll a dice, come here and record the result. We can keep this log if we ever look back and wanted to use old methods of dice rolling in later-game.
So I was thinking, there will be times when "everyone laughing at you" will hardly be a penalty, and assuming we're all on the same team, I don't think it makes sense that we would laugh if one of our teammates fails at healing another character. Perhaps 2 is a chance to hurt yourself, and 1 is a chance to hurt yourself AND an ally?

Rolling a 1 will be disastrous, I was just trying to put it in a different light. Everyone is always so angry when they roll a 1, so maybe adding a bit of mirth would take the disappointment away. I remember when me and my friends played DnD, one of them always used to have horrible luck, and in the end we always ended up rofl.

I guess. I feel that the point of a 1 *is* to be mad. But you're the DM *bows down*

So when are we starting?

*raises hand*

Are we posting in any particular order?

Nope

Sorry about that mess up with the intro. I fixed it so now you can interact.

(I'm not very good at the beginnings (>_>))

Haha. Cool, I'll make my first post late tonight (Saturday is Skype DnD day so the only computer is being used atm) :]

Oh! Also do we tell you what we want to roll for, or will you let us know when to roll? (Sorry for all the questions)
