This RP will follow the lives of a rich and powerful organised crime family residing in Queens, NYC. With the ageing patriarch, Dante Russo, rumoured to be stepping down in the coming years, attention has turned to who will replace him in the family business. Between his children and trusted underboss, any one of them could take his place. The challenge is to receive both his recommendation and the support of most others within the organisation.

This RP will be primarily driven by relationships and drama within the family, their highest employees, as well as friends and significant associates. As well as the ruthless and fiery tension amongst those closest to each other, I will also throw in outside threats and challenges from rival gangs, law enforcement, and others set to make life even more complicated for our characters.

A patron of drug-fueled artists' galleries and, a fossil from his optimistic student years, a comparative literaturist. On the not so formal side, he funds heists over art some millionaire would burn and salt their family for.

Skills:
Well-read to the point it is uncomfortable to hold a conversation with him. Intimidatingly intelligent - not all knowing - but curious. Johnny's never been more than a lousy shot, but he's nothing to grin over in a close fight.

Likes:
Philosophy, though ancient Greek revivalists make his head hurt. Book collecting. Good leather.

Dislikes:
Being talked to in the evenings. Smug nihilists. Finds impressionism not that impressive, after all. Could revive Edgar Degas just to kill him again.

Personality:
During the year and a half that America bled the fronts in the Great War, in the mud stagnant with disease and oil, Johnny suffered a shot so brutal that they made him a grave in advance.

It burst through his stomach and between his lungs and the nurses' hands were stained in rivulets like fat leeches before they even got his clothes off. Enemy fire. He went out cover and had a soldier already waiting for him. If that wouldn't have killed him, the inflammation would have; they could string his flesh back together, but no help for shock. For weeks he blundered through hellish fever, his face boiling like white iron, laid up on soaked sheets like a martyr twisting his face up to Heaven. Pale, then pink-faced. Alive and dead. The pain that he felt he doesn't remember, with all the morphine. His comrades told him later that he twitched like a dog.

He had been decently young at that time. Young enough to never think he could die. And when Johnny did recover, by God's mercy or humor, there was something left on the surgery floor that he never grew back.

Johnny is both grave-cold and easily moved. Uncaring and stupidly compassionate. He feels nothing until he does, and he's really not a good person. He is just not a bad one, either.

Self-serving, in service of things greater than himself, loyal but not parasitic. In another life he could have been a note-worthy intellectual, if his stiffness and quiet judgement of those around him didn't make him so damningly unlikeable. His passion is not the kind sort and most of his pride seems to come out of meaningless arguments over nuance. He likes to scoff to himself. He never really smiles. There are books that Johnny thinks he is the angel protector of, and that no other mortal mind will ever quite understand it like him. But just so tolerable attitude aside, Johnny is smart. He is terrified to die. He knows glory is a passing chance and he thinks it is the only thing that makes it worth to live.

History:
Johnny, if prompted to think about it, finds that he never really saw himself as a child.

Relationships:
Michael and Elizabeth Harrington. Parents.

Dante and Margaret Russo. Uncle and aunt.

Benjamin Russo. Paternal cousin. The bullet lodged in Johnny's side; it bites and throbs, but he refuses to remove it, knowing it is the only thing keeping him from bleeding out.

Magdalena 'Maggie' Russo. Benjamin's daughter. He holds polite affection for her and looks over Magdalena's shoulder for her, but Johnny won't be trusting her with any secrets yet.

Along these lines, he's also an excellent liar with the acting chops and improvisational skill to pull off the lies. He's not much of a fighter or a shooter (something that he relies on others for), but he does have the reflexes to keep himself safe when things get hairy.

Magdalena is too young and too plain to be outstanding in anything. She is not one of those burning youths that have great futures ahead of them. But she's got a mean right hook, simple good logic and a charm that cracks the most satirical smirk.

Personality:
Margaret throws herself into the world as who she thinks she is supposed to be, rather than what she thinks must be herself.

She is at that junction of life where she is wrong. Where, somewhere along her creation, there must have been a slip of fate's hand or a glitch in biology. Perhaps she had been wrangled underwater too long by some sinister maid and her family pitied her enough to never tell her. She is nonsensical, those half-born clay monsters that shamble through myths, a starlette made for the dying limelight. She is an awful, iredeemable soul, second only to Cain that first lied to God; she is the most intelligent, a true genius of her time. All these monsters and angels live inside of Magdalena, tying her psyche into knots.

In truth, she is soft-spoken, a bit easily irritated and still lives with her family, because the summer she turned eighteen the world seemed once a stranger to her.

What was once a fourteen-year old that took care to apply her roque twice and argued with every adult around her turned into a confused, slightly frazzled adult. Her school gaggle of a dozen rights slowly trickled into the three friends that she walks the park with. Whatever new existence Magdalena anticipated after her debutancy, she did not find it - and for two summers she has been at home, doing quite nothing at all. She sits in the garden to watch the birds. She optimictically picks up new books that end up gutted and abandoned on the sofa. She sits in the shower, eyes cast, head devoid of thought. Magdalena can't stop wasting time and she is very, very afraid.

Time trickles into the heiresses she knows pushing diamonds in her eyes, with strange men on their arm that they coo over like doves. Others cast out boats for Europe to go on tours. Her family affords her a luxury most women can't even brush past, and that it so simply exist without the threat of marriage or work suffocating her like an unwanted babe.

For that, she sticks close to them. Magdalena understands crime in ideas and closed casket funerals; but it's not too late for her to step in closer.
