Hello, I'm takki! I once used to run a quest RP of the same title as this interest check, and I've been thinking of rebooting it ever since I stopped posting. I'm not sure if Quest RPs still garner interest, but I can try! Inspired by The Promised Neverland, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Dandadan, I hope this interest check garners enough interest like before.

The plot will be set in a Japanese high school with cups of slice of life, a pinch of romantic comedy, and bowl of weird shit a spoonful of paranormal investigating. Hiroshi Akaki, the main character and POV, is a former otaku who left his past after leaving his hold home. With a chance to change his former identity, he can now experience what a normal high schooler would be like! By doing so, he abandoned every part of his former self, and the finished product is an expressionless, stoic protagonist.

When he moved, he started having dreams of monsters and humans coinhabiting with each other. But dreams are dreams, and they couldn't be real.
They shouldn't be real.

How will Hiroshi Akaki spend his high school life? It's up to you to decide.
But is that really true?

The spoiler below is my writing sample and what you can expect every post. I usually give a set number of choices and I really encourage discussion between choices! But if a situation is flexible, I can allow write-in choices where you can choose what a character should do. Of course, it should be within reason. Majority choices win, and ties are dealt with using a dice roller.

Fantasy - The Reformation of the Paranormal Investigation Club

Everything changed when my parents suddenly moved from my home city to another, more urban one. Why would my parents forsake a cultural city in Aichi Prefecture to a crowded city in Yamanashi Prefecture? It doesn't make sense, and because of that move, I became unhappier.

At least, that's what I thought at first.

My reputation as the craziest, most extreme otaku was something that I cherished, because I got to talk to other students my age about the hobbies we enjoy, without getting harshly judged by others. Though, it didn't go as far as vandalizing inscribing an ancient Aztec message in a school wall to contact aliens, or to go to a cursed tunnel inhabited by a banana-stealing ghost granny. But who needs those when I was already having the best time of my life? But enough of all those, why didn't I show who I truly was in the first place? I was already having fun. I was satisfied, yet something else was compelling me to do otherwise.

The more I thought about it, the more I arrived at my answer that it was probably puberty and maturity.

Maybe I wanted to have a normal, high school life. Joining a sports club, eating together with friends, having a study session at someone's house, or maybe having a girlfriend... I didn't get to experience that on my first two years as a high school student. Maybe that was the reason why I transferred. Akanotohana School was a newly established, newly opened school near our new house, so I only needed to walk to go to school, which really saves me time and time by spending less on commuting.

But in order to communicate with other people that doesn't have the same tastes as mine, I needed to abandon everything. I needed to change my full identity. It felt heartbreaking as I stocked away all my posters, light novels, and other anime peripherals inside my room, but I gradually started to adjust to the shift. I barely watch anime nowadays, compared to my old habit of no-lifeing and staying up the whole night just to finish a series. I started to actually enjoy reading fictional books. The school year hasn't started yet, but is this what it truly feels like to have a normal, non-otaku life?

But soon after my transfer, I had been having weird nightmares.

Yamanashi Prefecture looked gray and lifeless, ruined beyond repair. The street was littered by rubble as the air reeked of powdered cement. The houses and buildings, for some miraculous reason, were still very much intact. Then, I saw the monsters. They looked like eldritch horrors that came from the spawns of Hell itself, each step of their terrifying sounding like stepping on broken glass and wet slime. These demonic creatures walked on the sidewalk as if they were a morally conscious creature.

Maybe the dreams were an aftereffect of maturity, because I awoke to a strong headache that felt like my brain was being contracting.

But at the end, you, the reader, will understand why. You will understand the truth of this world, the reason for my dreams, and most importantly, why the world died a hundred years ago.

For now, let's keep it light, shall we? Classes would start the day after this late diary entry and I'd make a good first impression by being early in the third years' morning assembly. Tomorrow would be a day like any other day, yet unbeknownst to me, that was my last day as a normal high school student. Well, sort of.

I'd eyeball this, if only because anime paranormal hijinks make for fun times. Time to turn Akaki into a perpetually mewing looksmaxer.

OH HI POTATO you arrived really quick!!

I'm super excited to start this up again, I'll make the thread available tomorrow!

Hello, may I join please?
Yes you may!

Everyone can also join because questing is similar to a choose-your-own adventure RP. I'll make the thread in a few hours, along with the starter post and choices!

Do you have a character sheet you want me to fill out? This actually is maddeningly similar to an idea I once had on another site but it never really took off.

Maybe my character can breath through this by proxy.

There's no character sheet to fill out :> Because this is a quest RP, anyone can only choose which choice to pick according to the current post by the roleplay GM, which is me.

Questing is just a choose-your-own-adventure story with other people, in short terms!

That's not how this type of RP works. Quest RPs are akin to choose your own adventure books - The GM writes the entries and runs the roleplay, players read, discuss and vote for the option they prefer (from among those provided by the GM) to continue the story.
