Logan rolled his eyes and smiled, chuckling. “Pfft me neither man, I don’t know anybody’s fuckin’ name on this team but you,” he said, which was true.

“Guess we’ll learn as we go,” shrugged Logan as he worked on getting his pads and skates off.

“Don’t worry, you’re secret’s safe with me, I won’t tell anyone you don’t know anyone’s name especially considering I don’t know anyone’s name either haha,” laughed Logan, smiling at Matt as he paused briefly to look at the boy.

"Really? That's funny," he said, sarcastically.

He broke out into a smirk as he sat down on the bench opposite Logan as he continued to face him. He folded his arms softly before continuing on.

"Aha, well, what's my name then? If you get this wrong, you might not have a ride tonight," he teased.

Logan let out a laugh as Matt playfully quizzed him on what his name was.

“Hmm I dunno man, wasn’t it something like Mark? Pat? Mitch?” Logan asked, pretending not to know.

“Nah I’m just kidding with your bro, it’s Matt.” Logan said with a grin.

“It is Matt though, right?” Logan asked, just to be sure.

“I wanna make sure I have a ride for tonight,” he chuckled.

"Ha-ha, very funny Logan," he rolled his eyes and grinned. It seemed that his new friend had a sense of humor as well. He liked that.

"Now hurry up or else we'll miss out on dinner," Matthew said.

It wasn't long before he was ready. He had taken a shower in the Locker Room Facility and changed into his fresh pair of clothing. After being a bit exhausted from such a long day, Matt still had to pack up his gear neatly, sliding everything into his sports duffle bag. Though, he was really ready to eat now.

He sat on the bench and waited for Logan, seeing that they'd carpool to the place where the team was meeting.

“Right,” chuckled Logan as he picked up the pace on changing out of his hockey gear.

“I’m so fuckin’ hungry man,” said Logan, briefly patting his stomach. “I could eat a horse dude- this team dinner is much needed,” he said.

Logan finished changing and quickly hopped into the locker room shower, changing into a fresh new change of clothes. He then came out where Matt was waiting for him and smiled.

“Alright man, all ready to go when you are!” he beamed.

"Alright, finally," Matt teased as he rolled his eyes. "I swear, I think my last girlfriend got ready faster than you."

He then stood up and smirked, trying to contain his chuckles from his own teasing. He picked up his bag and began leading the two out to the exit where they'd find Matthew's car. It really was a smart idea to carpool. Money was tight and gas wasn't cheap.

Logan chuckled at Matt’s comment. “Ha, I’ll definitely have to be faster next time then. Girls take forever,” said the boy.

He then took his bag and smiled as he went off with Matt to his car. “Hey man I appreciate you driving me to this tonight, looking forward to this dinner,” he said.

“Mind if I put my hockey shit in your back seat?” Logan asked, pointing at the back of Matt’s car with his hockey stick.

“Yeah, of course. I never mind carpooling. Plus, the dude said it was close to school. He texted the address earlier while I was waiting for you,” he said, with a smile.

Matthew unlocked his car.

“Yeah, go ahead,” he said, as he opened the passenger door in the back and threw in his own bag and hockey stick.

He then got into the driver's seat and waited until Logan was ready. When he was done, he started the car and began navigating to their destination.

-

It didn’t take long until they arrived and walked into the restaurant.

“Hopefully this place is as good as I remember it being,” he said to Logan.

“Oh nice, that works out then,” said Logan, nodding his head as Matt told him the restaurant was in close proximity to their campus.

“Thanks man,” said Logan gratefully as he threw his hockey bag in Matt’s back seat and stuck his stick in there too.

He then got into the car and Matthew drove them there.

-

As they finally arrived and both got out of the car, Logan looked to Matthew and raised his eyebrows a bit.

“You’ve been here before? Damn,” said Logan.

“Honestly I’m just starving so any food will do for me right now.”

"I know all the good places in town. This one isn't top-tier, but it's decent," he said smoothly.

"Yeah, no kidding. I'm fuckin' starving too," he said, as they entered inside.

The Bar & Grille was packed and loud. There were a few games being shown on huge TVs around the room. Coincidentally enough, there was a Hockey match going on. The Islanders were losing to the Sharks.

A hostess stood behind a small front desk with a sweet smile.

"Hello. Welcome in. Are you two together?" she asked.

"Ah, no. We're part of a group. Do ya' happen to know if some College students from Twinecrest are here?" Matthew inquired.

The woman then glanced back and scanned the restaurant behind her.

"Right this way."

She took two menus with her and began leading the way to a crowded, long table that seated rowdy college students.

As the two boys entered the establishment, Logan looked around. This place was packed, but pretty much exactly what he expected it to be. A typical sports bar. It was bound to have good food. He took a look at the TV, seeing an NHL hockey game being shown on one of them.

Logan stood by Matthew and nodded as he informed the hostess that they were with the Twinecrest hockey team group. He and Matthew followed the hostess as she led them to the table. There was a long table with lots of college kids from the ice hockey team. They were loud and having a good time as they laughed.

One of the teammates noticed the two freshmen walk in. “Hey! Freshies! Come join us!” said the older boy with a welcoming smile. A few other teammates cheered a little as they greeted the two freshmen. Logan smiled, at least happy to be appreciated. He then looked to Matthew and then to two empty seats at the table.

“Hey! Did you already put in some orders? We’re starving, man,” Matthew said as he took one of the empty seats next to Logan.

One of the rowdy, older college guys smiled as he joined in on the conversation.

“We just ordered a round of beers. Nothing a couple of freshies can have! You guys should order the nachos. They’re fucking spicy man!” he laughed.

Matthew glanced at Logan.

“We could share a plate of Nachos,” he shrugged. “I don’t mind. I just know I’m hungry as hell, haha.”

Logan looked over at Matthew and shrugged. “Sure, I suppose we could do that,” he said.

“They’re hotter than Satan’s asshole man, good luck,” laughed one of the boys at the table.

Logan chuckled a bit. But he knew he had to play it cool. If he was a little wimp when it came to spicy stuff then surely they’d all think he was lame.

“Let’s do it- let’s get the spicy nachos,” said Logan, being bold.

“Haha, alright! You’re already making tonight interesting, freshie. I wanna see who cries first over these spicy fuckers!” one of the other guys said as he laughed.

With Logan’s bold confirmation, the table ordered a round of their spicy nachos. They came out quickly and looked delicious yet spicy as hell.

“Alright, everyone has to eat some of it! Don’t be lame you guys,” said one of the other guys from across the table.

Matthew smiled as he grew excited for the challenge.

“Damn, these look awesome,” he said with a smile. “Logan, you get to have the honor of trying them first.”

Logan couldn’t help but gulp nervously. Could he really handle this amount of spice? It seemed like it was quite a lot. He’d just have to find out.

Eventually the spicy nachos came out and Logan widened his eyes at the plate. They looked good, he had to admit, but he knew they were going to burn his mouth. He had to stay cool and composed though- he couldn’t be caught crying because of the spice.

“Nonsense, I won’t cry,” said Logan confidently, secretly terrified.

“Well let’s see it then freshie! You first,” said one of his teammates, smirking as he looked at Logan.

Logan nodded nervously and eyed the plate of spicy nachos before him. “Alright, guess I’ll go first,” he said, picking up his first nacho.

He hesitated a bit as he hovered it near his mouth. “Well, down the hatch,” said Logan as he closed his eyes and winced, putting the chip in his mouth and eating it.

Logan winced some more as the spicy chip touched his tongue. They were right- these nachos were pretty damn hot! A few chuckles could be heard as the older teammates watched Logan eat, eagerly.

Logan tried his hardest not to cry. He just winced as he chewed the nacho and swallowed it with a great big gulp. He took a deep breath and panted a bit once the nacho went down and stuck out his tongue.

“Damn, that was spicy,” said Logan.

At least he had successfully not cried. He then looked over to Matt. “You next bud,” he said.

Matthew couldn't help but chuckle at Logan's reaction to the spicy nachos.

"You're turning a little red there.." he said as he handed Logan a cup of cold water. A smile was everpresent on his face. "Here, have some water."

He glanced at the pile of spicy-looking nachos as they sat before him. Matthew shrugged and nodded his head.

"Alright."

With that, the boy took a nacho that was filled with toppings and hot sauce. He ate it and licked the small drip of sour cream and hot sauce from the tip of his thumb. He waited for a moment before reaching for another.

"Man, I can't believe I didn't try this last time I was here! These are pretty damn good-- or maybe I'm just hungry.." he said. But then again, when was Matthew not hungry?

Logan nodded, all red in the face. He couldn’t see it but he could surely feel it- he was certainly red in the face. He very quickly and almost desperately took the cold water from Matthew and started downing it.

“Thank you,” whispered Logan in between big gulps of water.

Along with the other boys, Logan then watched on as Matt tried the nachos. His eyebrows raised as Matthew seemed to eat it with relative ease. Hell it even looked like he was enjoying it! Logan had to say, he was impressed.

“Damn freshie, you ate that shit up like it was nothing! Your friend over here, not so much,” chuckled an older teammate.

Logan couldn’t help but blush a little from embarrassment, but his face was already so red you couldn’t tell he was newly blushing.

“Alright let’s put some actual good food in ya, take a look at the menus boys and order up,” said the teammate, sliding both Matt and Logan a menu.

Logan nodded and took the menu, looking at it. He wondered what he’d order. He was super hungry. Maybe he’d get a big juicy cheeseburger.

"Hey, wait! I'm all about fair play. Logan and I ate some nachos. Now it's your turn," Matthew then slid the plate of nachos into the middle of the table as he smirked.

One of the older guys gulped nervously.

"I hate that you ACTUALLY have a point there, Matt," one of the guys said. "But you're right. We are all about fair play- on the rink and in general."

He then grabbed a nacho and took a bit, cringing instantly from the spice that filled his mouth.

"Wooh- that's hot!"

Matthew then crossed his arms and smiled. He leaned close to Logan and whispered to him, "Seems like they can't take the heat either.. don't feel bad."

There weren't enough menus to go around so Matt just had to share with Logan.

"Can we share the menu? There aren't enough," he whispered as he took half the menu into his hand from Logan.

Before Logan could really read much on the menu, Matt challenged some of their older teammates to try the spicy nachos. He grinned and nodded along with Matt’s proposition. Logan watched on as they began to eat the nachos. He couldn’t help but grin as he saw his teammates react and wince to the spice too.

“Hmm, yea I guess you’re right,” said Logan with a smirk and a nod, feeling a little better about himself.

He then took his menu. He hadn’t realized there was only one left that was slid over to him, leaving Matthew without a menu. Logan looked over at Matt as he asked to share the menu.

“Oh uhh, s- sure man! Here,” said Logan, leaning in towards Matt and showing him the menu so the other boy could get a good look at it.

“See anything ya like?” Logan asked. “I still don’t know what I want.” he said.

Matthew was grateful that Logan was cool enough to share the menu. He leaned in close as well, ignoring the fact that their shoulders were touching softly. He could feel Logan's warmth.

His eyes scanned over the menu as his eyelashes fluttered softly.

"Uhh..the Pizza Platter sounds pretty good. I think Pizza is such a pick me up," he said, happily.

"Whenever I'd have a bad day at school when I was younger, I'd buy myself a slice of pizza at this old pizza shop. The pizza was so good- but it was only like- $2.30 a slice - and to me, that was a heck of a deal since I grew up dirt poor," he babbled on.

"Sorry, that was just a short backstory on why I wanted pizza, haha.." Matthew grew a bit embarrassed but tried to shake off his feelings.

"What about you? Anything catching your eyes?"

As Logan leaned in to share the menu with Matthew, the two boys’ shoulders gently touched together.

He looked at Matt curiously as the boy scanned the menu over. It seemed that he finally came across something. The pizza platter.

Logan couldn’t help but chuckle and smile as Matt gave a little backstory behind why he was ordering the pizza. It was kind of cute, knowing that a young Matthew seemed to find happiness in some simple pizza as a boy.

“That’s cu- that’s cool dude. Can’t go wrong with pizza,” said Logan with a grin. “Nah man don’t worry about it, I thought it was kinda interesting.” he told him.

“Unfortunately I don’t really have a background story for my pick, but I think I’m gonna go with a classic juicy cheeseburger. I could really go for that right now,” said Logan, his stomach growling just thinking about it.

"Burgers are always so good!" he said, enthusiastically. Matthew then smirked. "I know this killer burger place by my apartment. It's called Five Fries. If you like burgers then we should totally go eat there sometime."

The table continued to chatter on, having conversations here and there. However, it seemed that Logan and Matthew were capable of just talking amongst each other. It felt nice that way. Plus, their conversation didn't feel forced.

It wasn't long before a waitress came by to take the table's order. Matthew ordered the Pizza Platter of course!

The more he spoke with Matthew the more he seemed to like the kid. Their conversation flowed naturally and it seems like they would’ve been great friend had they known each other in high school or something.

“We’ll have to go by there some time,” said Logan, hinting at the fact that he wanted to hang out with Matthew some more outside of the rink.

Soon the waitress came over and after Matthew ordered his pizza platter, Logan ordered his cheeseburger cooked medium rare.

The food was delicious and the chatter amongst teammates, new and returning players, was fun. Matthew got to learn a bit more about the other guys on his team but he also spoke with Logan as well. Needless to say, it was a well-spent evening. Though, after hours of eating and a bit of drinking, the team dispersed to head home.

Matthew and Logan headed out, hopping into his car. It was a bit past 12. It wasn't long before they arrived back at the parking lot where Logan's car was.

"Surprisingly, I actually had a really nice time.." he said openly as he broke their peaceful silence.

Matthew took his key out as he parked his car close to Logan's. He did a shitty parking job. but it didn't matter. The parking lot was empty (given how late it was). The air was crisp and if you stepped outside from Matt's warm car, you'd likely see your breath cloud up in front of your eyes.

"Oh, yeah, don't forget your hockey bag in the back," he reminded him politely.

It was safe to say that the food was amazing. Logan’s cheeseburger was delicious and Matthew seemed to really enjoy his pizza. The night was quite fun as it was filled with good laughs, talking, and bonding amongst the teammates. Eventually it ended and it was time for everyone to go back.

Logan went along with Matt to his car, getting in and remaining relatively silent on the ride back to campus. They eventually got to the parking lot and Logan nodded, smiling at Matt.

“Yea man I actually had a lot of fun tonight too!” Logan said, having enjoyed his night out with the team. The guys were all cool.

“Hey and thanks for giving me a ride,” said Logan as he looked at Matt.

Suddenly, his eyes widened as he realized something once he looked in the back seat at his hockey bag. His water bottle was missing!

“Uh oh umm dude, I think I lost my water bottle in here,” said Logan, looking around the dark car.
