Appearance Details:
Standing at 5'10 and weighing around 180 pounds, the boy is very muscular and toned. His skin reflects his heritage with a copper complexion and his long, ebony hair flows down to his shoulders when it is not cared for like it is shown above. Dark brown eyes, but whiskey colored under the sun, with an oblique positioning on his face is what the teenager sports next to a pair of eyebrows that seem to be constantly giving a ferocious look. Usually, he'll wear pants, boots, and a white unbuttoned shirt that he lets hang on him loosely.
Name:
Yuquibo
Nickname/Title (optional):
Mayohaboa or for short the crew prefers using "Yo"which they pronounce as "Jo" (the name will be explained in the bio), the Indian
Age:
16
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Nationality:
Taíno
Personality:
Unlike the rest of his people, the boy has always been quite a fighter. More often then not, he would be seen unwilling to let a matter drop if he was sitting in the awry side of injustice. This, naturally, meant he spent a large amount of time as a boy in brawls with other boys, particularly Spanish boys who insulted him and his family. Although he is a spitfire, Yo is not at all an unwise or unintelligent boy. While he was growing up in the small village he'll always refer to as "home", his father made sure that his son did not grow to become a mindless brute who sought violence. Because of his father's teachings, he grew to be calm, collected, and thoughtful human being. This, however, does not mean that the rashness in him has gone away. On the contrary, the boy is still the same that he was a child simply much more..."tamed". On the other side of the spectrum Yo has always had a thirst for all sorts of education whether it be literature, mathematics, people and their culture, sciences, or really anything. Even as a toddler his curiosity, which worked perfectly with his once lighthearted attitude, was a definite constant and it even brought him trouble at times. Once a child many goofy antics, he's grown to become a thinking, somewhat serious sort of teenager with strong values and morals.
Likes:
First and foremost, learning, combat, and sailing are on the top of the boy's list. If that were all that he could do for the rest of his life, he would be very happy. But even before all of this, freedom is rooted deep within the boy. This can cause him trouble with authority, but now he has learned to control himself better. Also, Yo has a very big liking to climbing and heights as well for it was how he passed time growing up. hunting is something he also enjoys, but never for sport only to feed one's self and their family. Music and art, although he personally cannot create either, interests him very much so as well. The jungle and animals he is also very big on.
Dislikes:
Slavery, and those who oppress others will always stir the most rage in Yo's heart. Along with that, smoking and the smell of ash in general he very much does not like. Meaningless violence and ignorant people is another thing that he is not a fan of as well as deception and manipulation.
Skills:
Close-quarter combat, extremely skilled with a hatchet, climbing (parkour), accurate with a bow and arrow, sailing, and tracking.
Weaknesses:
Prideful, reckless, too curious for his own good, bad at taking orders, and a horrible shot with a pistol or gun.
Biography:
Yo was born to the peaceful, native people of Borikén (or Puerto Rico as it is known as by the Spanish). His father was a fisherman and so when the Spanish came they allowed him to keep doing his work so long as he gave the majority of his profit from fishing to them. From his father, Yo would learn how to fish, hunt, and sail. His name at birth, Yuquibo, was given to him because of his hunger for retaliation and because of his spirit. The name first belonged to a leader of his people who fought against Spanish colonization when the Spanish first came to their island. Much unlike his more calm people, Yo was a warrior and a natural fighter. This made him more like the Carib Indians which were a rivaling tribe. From the ages of seven through nine he had a very close bond with a boy from this rivaling tribe where he learned how to fight. This friend of his was the one to give him his hatchet.
At the age of nine, the fish that his father provided was not enough for the Spanish. To punish him, they took Yo and forced him into slavery where he would spend four years working in the most difficult of conditions for harsh, brutal men. There was an upside to this because in these four years he would meet a man who would teach him Spanish before he died of being overworked. With his knowledge of the language, Yo began listening in on conversations that his captors would have and tried to plan an escape. At thirteen, he would get the chance for he heard a conversation stating that his village would be burned. He quickly escaped soon after and went back home only to witness as the Spanish burned his people. In a fit of rage, he ran to his old home and grabbed his hatchet and his father's bow/arrow. With no thought of possible consequences, he slaughtered any men guilty of this arson as it all turned to a crisp around him. A certain captain had been in the island committing the usual acts of piracy, when they heard word of a young boy who had gone on a rampage and then had fled his village into the town she had been staying at. He had been nicknamed Mayohaboa which refers to his people's drums and how they sound like "the voice of gods" due to the fierce battle cry the boy had. Perhaps it was sympathy, or old memories of when the greatest of captains took scarred children under his wing, but she decided to let him come with her. Due to his lack of ear for authority and the fact that the crew dislikes/ does not trust him for seemingly no reason, she made him a Powder Monkey and that has been his place since.

Other:
Yo can speak the Taíno language, the Carib language, Spanish, and in his time on the ship he has learned English. Although my character would certainly not be a fan of this, all hail Queen Rai!
