Mack was still stuck, and barely able to make it to the door since she couldn't really see with her damp shirt refusing to come off, but she soon felt Rory's taller frame behind her, guiding her hands back down so her shirt stayed on. She would have made a sound of protest, if it hadn't been for Sabrina's voice, and sudden presence in the pool room.

Fortunately, Mack stayed silent and let Rory deal with the problem. Maybe she was sobering up, or maybe she knew subconsciously that now wasn't the time to let her intoxication get the best of her. She remained silent as Rory snapped at Sabrina and took her hand for the umpteenth time that night, leading her away from there and out of the house completely. The party was still in full swing, the sound of music filling her ears all of a sudden, but it was gone almost as quickly as they made their way outside.

She leaned against the side of Rory's jeep as he opened up the back and grabbed some clothes that he soon handed to her. Mack was still in a bit of a daze, and admittedly feeling sleepier by the second. Her eyelids felt heavy, but she kept herself awake because of how uncomfortable she was in the wet clothes. It was cold too, which wasn't ideal for an impromptu swimming session.

"Thanks." Mack happily returned Rory's smile as she grabbed the clothes and crawled into the back seat. A few minutes later, she was feeling much better, and warmer. Rory's letterman jacket, while big for her, was definitely serving its purpose by shielding her from the cold.

Now comfortable, Mack crawled into the passenger seat and sat there, waiting for Rory, since she just assumed they weren't going back to the party. Mack didn't want to anyway. It was nicer out here. Quiet. She may or may not be coming down from the high, or it was probably just going to knock her out pretty soon.

Once Rory was changed and had joined her up front, she looked over at him, her head still resting back against the seat lazily. "You're a good guy," she told him, her tone soft, revealing that she wasn't as intoxicated anymore. Maybe Sabrina's presence sobered her up, or the fact that Rory was being... well, very un-Rory. Truth be told, she didn't know what he was actually like. She just made assumptions. "I shouldn't have been so quick to judge. After yesterday... I was worried you'd do something to try and get back to me but all you've done today is be nice."

So maybe not totally sober. She was just hitting her sappy, truth-talking phase.

The last thing he needed was for her to get into his Jeep soaking wet. She would end up freezing to death and ruining the leather seats. Neither of which he wanted to see at this very moment. The brunette allowed his lips to tug up into a light smile as she took the clothing from his extended hands. Without another word, Rory turned until his back was against the now closed Jeep door so Mack could get changed properly.

This was not the first nor would it be the last time a girl would have changed clothing in the back of his Jeep. However, it was the first time he hadn't watched. The whole situation that he had now so stupidly got himself in was throwing him through a loop and it had only been a day. Everything would have been so much easier if Mack was the same nosy ass girl a few nights ago in the locker room. But no, she ended up being awesome.

The shifting of the Jeep signaled that Mack had changed and had moved to the front seat. Rory quickly discarded his wet clothes, tossing them on the rubber mat in the back of the Jeep as he pulled the dry shorts over his lower half. He didn't have a shirt that was dry but he would manage. Quickly he made his way back to the side of the Jeep, his hand opening the driver side door so he could climb in before he started the engine.

"What?"

Mack's statement had caught the brunette off guard, his gaze turning quickly to her relaxed state. Fuck. He sighed softly before shaking his head, moving to pull the seatbelt across his bare chest until it clicked into place. "We all judge a book by its cover.", he spoke softly as he leaned his back further into the driver's seat. Was this guilt that was building in his chest? Rory bit down softly on the inside of his right cheek before he put the Jeep in drive. "Let's get you home."

The ride to Mack's home was quiet but not tense as Rory would have imagined it to be. It was almost as if they were just happy being in each others company. There really was no reason to make empty conversation. He pulled into the driveway slowly, not pulling up all the way due to not really knowing how it would look dropping her off to begin with.

The Jeep came to a halt as he cut the engine, placing his hands in his lap as he turned to look at the blonde beside him. "Alright princess, we're here." Rory teased softly, the smile playing on his lips as he spoke.

Mack sat in silence in the car. Not because she wasn't sure what to say, but it was nice. It wasn't an awkward silence, it was a comfortable silence. Mack continued to think about Rory and what she said to him and realising she'd been wrong about him the whole time. She had no clue what tomorrow was going to be like after tonight, but she didn't think about that for the moment.

Soon enough, the car was rolling to a stop and Mack looked away from the window to glance over at Rory in the driver's seat. "It's before midnight," Mack observed as she looked quickly toward the dashboard. "I'm like Cinderella," she giggled softly, though she was admittedly much calmer than she had been after she downed the spiked punch. It was slowly wearing off, which meant she'd likely knock out once she got to her room and laid down on the bed.

"Thanks for tonight," she told him, reaching down and picking up her bag since she'd left it there before the party, not exactly wanting to walk into that environment with her school books. "It was fun." More fun than she'd have realised a party could be. Perhaps because she'd been intoxicated, but she realised any situation could be fun if you were with someone you know and like. Mack liked Rory, she decided.

"And thanks for driving me home," Mack added with a sleepy grin, followed by a small yawn that she covered with her hand. She still had his jacket on, figuring she could hand it over at school tomorrow. Her brother was definitely going to have questions but she was just going to say that it all belonged to Isaac. That would raise fewer questions.

"See you at school," Mack told Rory, intending on leaving. She opened up the car door, but hesitated. Her last drunken act for the night was to turn back around and quickly lean forward to plant a fleeting peck to Rory's cheek. It was friendly, and a way to say thank you, and Mack didn't stick around to see how he reacted to it. Almost as soon as it happened, she left the car and shut the door, walking down the street to her house. Fortunately, almost everyone was asleep, so Mack could go up to her room straight away and face the line of questioning she was supposed to get, tomorrow instead.

Mack crashed almost immediately, letting her bag fall to the floor and her body flop onto the bed, not bothering to change or even remove her shoes, which were still damp since she jumped into the pool with them on and she hadn't taken them off. With surprisingly warm thoughts, Mack drifted off into a deep, uninterrupted sleep.

Well, till morning came and she was startled awake by the sound of her brother pounding on her bedroom door for her to wake up. Because for the first time ever, Mack slept through her alarm and was now late for school.

First, he had completely befriended the new girl. Second, he had gotten her to go to a party with him where she ended up drunk and almost naked. Third, said almost naked nerdy girl kissed him. Okay, so it wasn't a full on kiss but it was a kiss.

Rory had gone home flustered not from the small peck on his cheek but from the whole situation in general. He had thought that Mack was going to be this girl who wouldn't have gotten under his skin yet that is exactly what she had done and it had taken twenty-four hours. The bet that he had taken on with his best friend was slowly eating at the brunette but he wasn't one to not see something through. Even if it was going to end up ruining something great and that scared the shit out of him.

"I feel like I am going to throw up." Rory turned his gaze to Matt who was sitting next to him with his face buried deep in his crossed arms against the table. Rory wasn't exactly shocked that Matt was feeling the way he was considering that the other had gotten completely shit-faced the night before."You shouldn't have drank so much." He chimed in slightly as he placed another fry in his mouth, his green eyes moving to the cafeteria doors.

Today was off to a strange start for sure. He hadn't seen Mack yet and there was no way that she had skipped school. She had drank quite a bit last night and he wasn't sure if that had been the first time she had even taken a sip of alcohol before. He turned his attention back to his groaning best friend, rolling his eyes slightly as he leaned against the hard backing to the chair he was sitting in. He loved Matt but holy shit he was a lightweight.

The memories of the previous night came rushing back as Mack got up with a start and rushed through her morning routine. Being late to school was not an option. She already knew she'd get questions from her brother for being late to come home last night. Considering the fact that her parents didn't ask any questions, she guessed that he covered for her somehow, but that didn't put her in the clear with him. If anything, it was worse than her parents interrogating her.

Regardless, he didn't hound her in the morning. He dropped her off to school in silence, and she knew that once she showed up for work later in the evening, that's when he'd start asking questions. She didn't doubt that Isaac probably already spoke to him about the fact that she was hanging out with some guy from her school โ€” not just some guy, but someone who's last name was well known in most parts of the town.

Someone who she'd gone swimming with yesterday, someone who defied all odds and completely changed the way she thought about him with the way he treated her when she'd had a little too much to drink. Mack fortunately didn't have a hangover since she didn't even drink that much, but it clearly didn't take much alcohol to get her tipsy and doing questionable things.

Class went by as usual in the morning. Mack's mind was admittedly elsewhere, since she hadn't seen Rory since arriving and she was partly worried that she might have scared him off with the way she acted yesterday. Plus, just because he'd extended a hand of friendship by taking her to that party didn't mean they were suddenly best friends. She had to remind herself of her place in this school, and how different it was from Rory's place.

Regardless, she wasn't going to do nothing. When she woke up still wearing Rory's letterman jacket she knew she needed to meet him, if only to return it to him, so when lunch time rolled around, she had it in one hand, while her other hand balanced her cafeteria tray. Her eyes scoured the place and she quickly identified Rory at a table, sitting with Matt who looked in worse shape than her. He probably drank much more.

With only a little hesitation, Mack sauntered over to stand in front of their table, her gaze shifting between both boys. She gave a warm, but mildly nervous smile in greeting, before holding her hand out to give Rory's letterman jacket back to him. "Thanks for that," she told him, letting her hand find its way to the other end of her cafeteria tray once he took the piece of clothing from her. "And thanks for last night. I had fun."

It certainly had been out of her comfort zone, but it had been fun, with the right company. Mack could feel heat rising to her cheeks so she turned around abruptly. Just because he'd been friendly didn't mean she could make herself at home by sitting at his table, so she found an empty one nearby and went to sit down there.

Rory couldn't help the corners of his lips pulling up ever so slightly as she continued her steps. She had his jacket bunched up under her arm and he couldn't help but want to see it around her shoulders once again as it had been last night.

"Hey there dandelion.", the grin pulled wider on his lips as he extended his hand to grab the jacket from her own. "Oh yeah of course..", he trailed off as he turned his gaze to place the jacket against the table, "...it was a lot of---Mack?" Rory moved his gaze from the now empty spot where Mack had been standing to the sight of her back at an empty table. What the heck?

The brunette's nose scrunched up slightly as he pushed the chair he was currently in back so he could get up from it. Why hadn't she just sat down next to him? There was an empty chair literally right next to him. This girl was going to drive him mad.

Without saying anything to Matt, Rory headed to Mack's table. He could hear the faint sound of Matt's snores so that was a good indication that the other was passed out anyway. He rounded a few of the tables until he reached the one where Mack had been sitting. Rory pulled the chair across from the blonde out quickly before he took the seat. "You know you could have sat with me."

The brunette reached over, his fingers grabbing a few of the girls fries off of her tray before placing them in his mouth one by one. "It's the least you could do considering that you kissed me last night." The left corner of his lip pulled up into a small smirk as he let out a soft laugh. "I'm kidding, but seriously you shouldn't sit by yourself." His voice was playful but his green eyes were warm and inviting.

The moment Rory took the jacket, Mack had dismissed herself. She didn't believe that they were all friendly now just because of yesterday. Honestly she was a little conflicted because she had actually enjoyed spending time with Rory, even though she assumed that she wouldn't. Regardless, they were from two whole different worlds and Mack didn't see that changing any time soon. It was nice while it lasted.

Except, apparently, it wasn't ending with last night.

She had just about sat down when someone took the seat opposite her โ€” that alone was a surprise since she had no friends in this school, but to see that it was Rory made her eyes widen a little. She looked around, side to side, wondering what was going on. People were glancing in their direction, likely confused about this as much as she was. When he said she could have sat with him, she stuttered a little. "Oh. Well, Iโ€”"

Mack cut herself off when he brought up the kiss, and all of a sudden, it all came rushing back to her. Mack didn't really think back to some of the more embarrassing things she did last night. She only thought about how she'd had fun with Rory and how he'd actually defied all expectations and proved he was a nice guy. But then she recalled the swimming, the nearly taking off her clothes, and then the kiss on his cheek at the end.

"Oh God," Mack felt mortified. She covered her face with her hands, peeking through the spaces between her fingers at Rory. "Oh God," she repeated, groaning inwardly. "Sorry for... well, all of it. I've just never been drunk before." And of course, the first time she experienced it, it had to be at a party with a bunch of popular, rich kids. What was she thinking, pulling Rory into the pool? She couldn't seem to recall whether he'd enjoyed it or not. "Sorry. I guess I kind of turned you into a babysitter for the night instead of letting you enjoy the party."

His green eyes locked onto the embarrassed girl across from him as his teeth exposed themselves in the air. There was no need for Mack to be shy over the whole situation. Rory had seen a completely different side to her and honestly it was refreshing yet terrifying all at the same time. "I enjoyed myself.", he spoke playfully as he continued to swipe some fries off of the girls tray.

The hushed whispers coming from behind him weren't exactly too hushed. Rory could feel the eyes of every student in the room on his back as he continued to sit in his unusual place. Sure, he thought it was going to be a little strange for people to see him with Mack but he hadn't expected such a turnout. "Anytime you want to drag me into a pool I am down, however next time I will not be going in fully clothed." Rory moved his gaze to Mack's own, his eyebrows dropping slightly as he spoke confidently. There was going to be a point where he had to start testing the waters of where this 'friendship' was going.

"Well isn't this cute."

Sabrina's voice was too close for comfort. Rory turned his head to see the long haired blonde making her way over to the table. Her two best friends were following closely behind her, Josie and Mandy. "Sabrina.", he acknowledged briefly before turning his attention back to Mack. "I honestly didn't think you'd have it in you." Sabrina was now eerily close, her hip ever so slightly brushing against Rory's stray hand lying against the edge of the table. "I knew Rory was fantastic in bed but I didn't think you would have jumped into his so quickly." The blonde shifted the tray to one hand while her free one moved to Rory's face, her fingertips running along his jawline softly.

"Don't."

Rory's hand reacted quickly, gripping onto Sabrina's own to stop the touch on his face but before he had a moment to think Sabrina's eyebrows rose curiously as she let her other hand with the lunch tray rise above Mack's head. "Sabr--", his words were cut off quickly as his green eyes followed the contents of the now tipped over tray fall onto Mack's head and down her small frame. "Oops."

The room had gone silent almost instantly other than the soft gasps coming from some of the students. "Sabrina you are such a bitch." Rory rose from his chair harshly, knocking the chair sideways onto the ground as he moved to Mack's side. His fingers started quickly removing some of the food out of Mack's hair as he pressed his lips together in a hard line. Fucking Matt was passed out still at the other table. He was supposed to be on the lookout for Sabrina and her bullshit.

Sabrina took another step forward, leaning down slightly as she dropped her gaze to Mack completely. "Oh, and a little tip.", her words were low as she gently placed her fingertips against the start of Rory's collarbone peeking through the top of his uniform. Rory's breathe hitched immediately from the small touch, his fingers frozen in Mack's hair as his blood pressure accelerated. "That's his spot, if you know what I mean." Sabrina rose from her position, a satisfied smirk playing on her perfectly glossed lips as she moved away from the table completely with Josie and Mandy behind her.

Mack slowly let her hands drop from her face in embarrassment as Rory explained that he had actually enjoyed himself. While she had been hoping to hear that, she hadn't wanted to be too optimistic about it. After all, it was just one party, and Rory had several other friends, all from his world, which was where she didn't belong.

She wondered why she was even entertaining this when it was clear that things weren't really going to work out, but she just couldn't help it. The things he said and did... it wouldn't be exaggerating to say it made her weak in the knees. He wasn't helping by saying things like that now either, such as the pool reference, which brought some colour to her cheeks.

Mack was thinking of the best way to respond, but before she got the chance to say anything, a familiar voice interrupted. Familiar, but unwelcome. Mack suppressed a groan when she saw Sabrina walking up to the table and standing close to Rory. She wanted to ignore the other blonde, but Sabrina made that extremely difficult to do. It should have been another sign to get her to stop hanging out with Rory because as much as this continued, the more she'd have to suffer with Sabrina constantly hounding her, but another part of her was forcing Mack to take a stand. If Sabrina was still Rory's girlfriend then Mack would respect that and keep her distance. The fact that she had the audacity to act the way she did despite being broken up was what riled Mack up.

"No, we neverโ€”" She was so busy listening to Sabrina and trying to protest to make it clear that she and Rory hadn't slept together, that Mack didn't notice the lunch tray angled in her direction. Before she knew it, she had a food pile falling atop her head. A collection of fries and pasta decorated her hair and stained the white shirt of her uniform. The cafeteria, once busy with noise, was now silent since everyone was looking right at her. Mack was only vaguely aware of the fact that Rory had gotten up to help. She was still busy processing this whole thing.

Sabrina's last few words pretty much did it for Mack. She felt humiliated, she felt out of place, and she didn't belong in this school. Despite Rory trying to help, she wasn't really in a position to appreciate it so she pushed her chair back and abandoned her tray of food, instead rushing out of the cafeteria and to the nearest girls' room so she could clean up away from prying eyes. And also be alone with her thoughts since she didn't know what she'd do if she sat in that cafeteria any longer.

The brunette stared at Sabrina, his hands frozen in the air as his eyes kept themselves locked on Sabrina's smug face. Yes, he knew that Mack had taken off rather quickly out of the cafeteria after the other's rude comment. He didn't exactly blame her but he also wasn't sure what to do. Never had he been in this type of situation but he also knew that he put himself there.

He took in a small breathe to try and calm his blood pressure as the silence in the cafeteria was quickly zoning in on him. Don't make a scene. Don't make a scene. Just walk away. "Sabrina, you and I are never going to happen again.", his teeth grit down together as he spoke while his hands returned to his sides as he took a step back from the other girl. "You just sealed that." Rory turned on his heel and made a sprint out of the cafeteria so he could go find Mack. After that whole thing he knew she was incredibly upset.

Why did he even care? Isn't this type of thing what he wanted? It was exactly what he wanted, wasn't it?

Rory stood in the main hall of the school, his green eyes moving up and down the hall before stopping on some other students standing awkwardly outside of the girl's room. As soon as the two girls had made eye contact with him he knew exactly where Mack was. He moved towards the bathroom, his hands pressed against the door until it slowly pushed itself open. "Mack...", his voice had dropped significantly as he continued into the room.

It was clear that she was upset by the hushed whimpers that he knew were coming from her mouth. Mack was different though and he wasn't sure how she was going to respond to him even being in the bathroom to find her to begin with. She wasn't the type of girl that needed to be chased after. She was different.

Rory pressed his back against the wall on the bathroom, his eyes moved down to his feet as he let his teeth rake against his bottom lip. "I'm so sorry Mack." The brunette kept quiet as he kept his gaze down on the floor tiles. Any other girl he would have ran in after her but Mack was still unfamiliar in that sense. Did she want to be comforted? Was she the type of girl that you had to wait for her to come to you?

Mack had fled to the girls' room to be uninterrupted. She hadn't expected Rory to follow her in, but as she stood in front of the mirror, hunched over the sink, Rory's familiar voice filtered in and her head snapped in his direction as he leaned against the wall, refusing to face her.

Mack held nothing against him. None of this was on him. Of course, there was the added trouble that his presence around her had seemed to agitate his ex-girlfriend and it vaguely made her question what they were even doing with each other because in a perfect world, they wouldn't be seen interacting, let alone attending parties together and sitting together at the cafeteria.

"It's not your fault," Mack told him softly, turning back to the mirror and beginning to pull the remnants of food from her hair. Her white shirt was already stained with ketchup though and there was nothing she could do about that now. Mack was never one to skip school but at the moment all she wanted to do was get out of these clothes and go home. Fortunately she had another pair in her locker for when she finished swimming after school. She'd just have to use it now instead of later like she'd originally planned.

"Why are you hanging out with me?" Mack turned around to face him once again, deciding to just come out with it. Sabrina clearly didn't think they should be seen together. Neither did the rest of the school, given the looks she got whenever she was with Rory. So why did he think differently? "At first I thought you were trying to do something to get back at me for... for what I saw," Mack didn't want to bring up that incident again.

"But then you were nice to me yesterday and... it's been nice. But at some point I need to question what it's all for because you and I are from two different worlds. Sabrina made that really clear. I just... I'm confused." Everything about their whole relationship since yesterday had screamed 'bad idea', and yet she'd ended up having the time of her life. But on any other day, she was likely a girl he would never spare a second glance toward. So why did that change?

RORY-2.png

Sabrina was going to be the only one to fuck up his plan. She was going to push Mack
away before he ever would be able to. Was that really a bad thing? In the short amount of time spent
together Rory had feelings for the girl that he would never admit out loud. How could he? He had the worst
intentions from the start and he couldn't change them now. No. He was never one to give up on something
he started. He'd never hear the end of it from Matt never mind anyone else the damn boy would tell.
Hell, he didn't even know if Mack was going to give him the time of day after this whole debacle.
The whole plan turned into a mess just as quickly as the flip of Sabrina's tray on Mack's head.
The soft sound of Mack's voice had pulled the brunette out from his deep thoughts, bringing him back
to reality. His head lifted from his downward position, green eyes moving to her reflection in the large
bathroom mirror. Even covered in nasty cafeteria food Mack was still as beautiful as ever. Rory's
lips pulled down slightly at the thought as he shook it away while pushing his back off of the hard
wall. His lips parted to speak but were quickly clamped shut once again as Mack's voice echoed the room.
Fuck. His gaze didn't leave hers as she was now facing him. Even after searching her eyes he knew all she wanted
was an answer and she deserved one. "Iโ€“", he stopped as she continued talking about everything that he was not
ready to talk about.

"Mack.", he started as he took a step towards the blonde, "You are overthinking this." His words were soft
and while he was lying through his teeth you would never know it. Was he proud of just how good of a liar he was?
Absolutely not, but that was something he learned quickly living in his household. Rory stopped his steps as he stood in front of
the girl, his hands moving to her face as he cupped her cheeks. "Sure, we got off on the wrong foot but my intentions are
only good.
" Lips pulling up slightly into a soft smile, Rory's right thumb brushed Mack's cheek lightly in an attempt of comfort.

This was easily the most fucked up situation he had ever gotten himself into.
The worst of it being that he could really see himself falling for Mack but he knew once the truth was revealed the blonde
would run and run far. Green eyes gazed down into an equally green pair, the silence in the room cancelling his erratic
heartbeat as he moved in. What was he doing? He had no idea but he knew it was going to turn into something foreign to him.
Rory pressed his lips softly against Mack's own, his breath hitching lightly in his throat at the initial connection. He was going to regret
ever making this plan, but if he was going to get his heart broken he wanted Mack to be the one to do it.

MACK D'AURร‰VILLE
Mack watched as Rory took a step toward her. His first words made her think even harder, despite him telling her that she was overthinking it. Maybe she was, but who could blame her? Nothing the situation since she joined this school was normal. She had experienced more of her wild side in the past two days than she ever had in her entire life. The school was bringing out other sides in her โ€” no, Rory was bringing out other sides in her. And while she liked it, she also couldn't help but feel a little wary about it all.

Rory was assuring her that his intentions were good, and his smile โ€” ugh, that damn smile. It made her want to believe that everything was okay but there was still a little uncertainty within her. Still some uneasiness. Mack wanted to trust him and believe that this wasn't all just some setup. Even if it was real, did she want to really put up with Sabrina making her life a living hell just for some extra time spent with Rory? She'd barely known him a few days. It shouldn't be worth all the drama.

And yet, all of that suddenly flew her mind when Rory got closer, cupping her cheek with his hand. He was close enough that she could feel his breath against her skin. Mack tried to distract herself from her heart pounding in her chest by speaking, referring to the last thing he said. "How can I know that for sure?" She asked softly. "How do Iโ€”" Mack never got to finish her sentence because before she got the chance, Rory leaned in and bridged the gap between them by pressing his lips to hers.

It wasn't Mack's first kiss. It was however, the first kiss that made her weak in the knees and caused her face to flood with colour. Mack's heart began to race even faster, and she could no longer question whether Rory's intentions were good or not. All she could think about was the kiss, and how good it felt.

Mack wasn't sure how long it lasted, but she eventually pulled back, more out of surprise than anything because once she realised what was happening, she took a few moments to enjoy it before deciding that it needed to be addressed โ€” him kissing her was the last thing she expected to happen.

For a moment, Mack just stared up into his eyes, occasionally letting her gaze flicker to his lips. She wanted to speak but she was speechless. Eventually, she managed to get something out, along with a nervous breath. "That... that was good," she said, clearing her throat and averting her gaze. "Very nice. Very enjoyable." God she was terrible at this.

Never had a simple kiss electrified his body as much as the one he had just shared with Mack. This only had proven to the dark haired boy that he was indeed fucked when the truth of this charade came about. Rory couldn't help himself though. From her babbling nonsense to the way her lips moved as she spoke. He had to do it and he didn't want to stop doing it. Mack's lips were soft as he had imagined them to be and Rory couldn't help but admire the fact that they seemed to fit perfectly against his own larger ones.

The warmth he had been feeling slipped away as soon as Mack retreated from the kiss. Rory kept his eyes closed for a second longer before they fluttered open only to see Mack's bright eyes staring up at him. She hadn't pulled away immediately from the touch so that was always a positive sign and he couldn't help but notice her gaze stray every few seconds from his eyes to his lips. The corners of his lips pulled up slightly, his left eyebrow raising as he continued his gaze down towards the blonde.

It was good while it lasted. Rory's lips pulled into a grin as Mack averted her gaze completely and cleared her throat. He should have known that she was going to be awkward after something as simple as a kiss. Was she like this when anything physical was involved? Rory pressed his shoulder into the wall to steady himself as he continued to stare at the blabbering blonde. He couldn't help but admire her cheekiness as it was something he had never experienced before. Usually when he kissed a girl it wasn't just a kiss. It always turned into sex, even if he had just met them. Sabrina hadn't even kissed him before she had her top clean off.

"Enjoyable?", he teased softly while crossing his arms over his chest, "I can sh--" "Mr.Pierce!" Rory's words were cut short as the bathroom door slammed open revealing the headmaster of the school. The brunette sighed as he pushed himself off the wall, his green eyes blankly staring at the older man who seemed more than aggravated. "How many times do I have to remove you from the ladies bathroom?" Busted. Rory grunted lightly at the question because he knew what was going to come next. His father was going to be called and he was more than likely going to be beaten when he got home.

Rory turned to get one last look at Mack before turning his attention back to the man. "Apparently too many times." The grin had snuck it's way back onto the boy's lips as he followed the older man out of the ladies room. If he was going to get a beating from his father for kissing Mack then he prayed he was in a coffin soon because he had no intention of stopping at one kiss.

MACK D'AURร‰VILLE
Mack didn't get to exchange anymore words with Rory because the headmaster interrupted, and all Mack could worry about was how this would impact her status in the school. He seemed more intent on berating Rory since this had apparently happened many times before, and he barely paid any attention to Mack as Rory joined him outside the bathroom. While she felt some relief, she also wondered what would happen to Rory as a result. And she was admittedly still reeling from the kiss. Needless to say, it was on her mind for the rest of the day.

With the weekend approaching, Mack was in a scramble. Surprising her once again, Rory had invited her to a charity gala where she knew she would be out of place, but she couldn't bring herself to reject the invitation. Despite knowing she might once again be an awkward girl surrounded by a bunch of rich people, Mack could only think about the fact that Rory had invited her, that he wanted her to be his escort, and Mack was accepting his invitation quicker than she expected to.

Of course, the true dilemma came afterward, when she struggled to find something appropriate for the gala. She knew it was probably as fancy as an Oscar's after party, and Mack's wardrobe unfortunately didn't contain any outfits for such an occasion. Her brother, who was up to speed about all of this, volunteered to help. He wasn't particularly enthused about the idea of her being Rory's date or being associated with him in any way, but flashing the puppy dog eyes usually helped, and within a day โ€” and a lot of shop hopping โ€” Mack finally found something within her price range from a thrift store that was pretty decent.

She wasn't in the habit of wearing dresses, but this one she didn't mind, especially given the occasion. Her hair had been tied up into a bun with a few tendrils escaping to frame her face, and she wore little to no makeup, never having been very fond of it in the past. When she was ready, she asked her brother to drop her off, since she already told Rory not to pick her up โ€” it would raise questions from her parents and she didn't want that just yet.

Mack arrived soon enough, and already she felt out of place. She was dressed decently, sure, but several of the other people were dressed to the nines in designer wear and it showed. All she could think about as she stood on the sidewalk and waited for Rory was whether anyone could see through the fake label on the back of her own dress.

He was in trouble. Big. Fucking. Trouble.

Even after being almost beaten to death from his father after the whole girl's bathroom incident he had still been in awe over a tiny kiss. How had one small gesture become something that he wanted to do every day? He was having a hard time being around the girl without having one thing on his mind. It wasn't his fault and it wasn't because he was a man. Something about Mack was clicking in his brain.

Two days after the Sabrina disaster he had asked Mack to escort him to the charity gala. It was one of the biggest events for the school's football team and it was held every year. Only the best of the best were invited to attend and this was going to be his fourth and final year attending. Since he was already going to Hell he figured he was going to go down doing what he felt was right. That started with Mack. The more time he spent with her the more he wanted to know her. It was bizarre as hell.

The stubborn girl had rejected his offer for buying her a dress for the event and it was only another surprise on top of the stack. Nothing Mack did was ordinary and it seemed to keep Rory on his toes. The brunette stared at himself in the large mirror, his hands pressed to each side of his neck as he let out a sigh. He had been to this event three other times and never had he been so anxious over it. Gala's were boring and if he never had to go to another one he wouldn't be upset. However this time it had seemed different.

He drove himself to the event without questioning Mack on why she didn't want him to pick her up. He figured it was probably because she lived in a different part of town and she was embarrassed. There wasn't any reason to be though, Rory wouldn't care if she lived in a cardboard box at this point. His parents had gone to the gala in a separate vehicle knowing full well the after party of the gala was something that Rory was going to attend. "Pierce!" Matt's voice caused Rory to turn from his spot, eyes snapping in the other male's direction as he headed over to Rory's Jeep. "Hey man.", he acknowledged immediately as he straightened the ends of his fitted black suit. He wasn't exactly sure where Mack would be. She couldn't go in without him so somewhere outside was his first guess.

"Have you seen Mack?" Matt's shoulders raised slightly before he shook his head. "Nah, I just got here. I did see Sabrina though." Rory brushed the comment off, knowing full well that Matt still believed the plan was still in action. It was probably best if it had stayed that way. The two made their way to the entrance of the gala, Matt parting ways half way to join his escort. Rory moved onto the sidewalk, his green eyes moving across the crowd of people to see if Mack had shown up yet or not. He knew as soon as she did she would feel out of place. The thought caused his lips to pull up in a smile, his head shaking in the process.

Mack was too hard on herself sometimes. She didn't realize how--

"Beautiful." Breathe hitching in his chest, Rory's gaze finally caught sight of Mack. The black dress outlined her body perfectly, as if it had been custom made just for her to wear. Her hair was pulled up neatly with a few strands framing her face and Rory couldn't help but notice how a piece threatened to touch her jawline. Mack was beautiful. She didn't need to cover herself in makeup. No--she didn't need it. Rory moved forward until he was in front of the blonde, a cheeky grin planted on his face as he continued his stare. "Mack, holy crap." He pressed his lips together as he tried to find the right word. "I mean you look." The tip of his nose scrunched up as he blew out a soft breathe of air. "Wow."

MACK D'AURร‰VILLE
Rory seemed to find Mack before she found him. She heard his voice and spun around to meet his gaze. The first thing she noticed was how attractive he looked in his suit, all dressed up for the gala. It was a look on him she liked โ€” through truthfully, she doubted there was a look on him she wouldn't like.

His words hit her like a train, and she felt heat rising to her cheeks. They practically burned, and she smiled a little bashfully, casting her gaze toward the floor for a moment because if she looked him in the eyes, she might just melt. "Thank you," she said softly. She'd been worried the dress might not be enough, since people out here were in ball gowns and exclusive designer wear. She was in a knock off but she supposed whoever made it had done a decent job of making it look authentic.

"You look pretty wow yourself," she added, looking up now to meet his gaze. He was probably used to this though. The dressing up, and the compliments. What stood out this time was probably that she was accompanying him, instead one of the several other worthy girls in their school, Sabrina being among one of them. God, Mack hoped that she wasn't going to be here tonight, but when had the odds ever been in her favour before?

"I, uh... I've never been to one of these before," Mack told him, though that must have been very plainly obvious because she was looking around awkwardly and shifting from foot to foot, unsure of herself. "I don't really know what to do."

It was a charity gala, as far as she knew, but she was just Rory's escort to the thing. Part of her was admittedly worried about what would happen once she stepped inside with him since she figured a lot of people from their school would be here, with their families, and she... well, nobody was likely to recognise her, and Mack had no idea what Rory's parents were like. She wanted to try and make the best of it though. This was a new experience, and Rory had been the one to ask her to come. She wanted to have fun tonight.
