'Wnat' has haunted my years of roleplaying
So, his original name was Amos Harvestlay, and he was a well-known maintenance guy in the neighborhood who often went to apartments to fix collapsed roofs and built housing. That's how he met his wife, who was a bookkeeper who enjoyed restoring old books and paintings. So, one day they travel to the beach and a storm, like a tornado or a hurricane ends up killing him. He dies from getting struck in the back of the head by flying debris. Three years later he rises from the dead, an apprentice witch who is messing around in the graveyards and accidently brings him to life. He has no memories of his living life, only the name 'Lawrance'. Which was actually a suggested male name for their child, but he doesn't know that.
What I'm stuck on is his personality, I don't know what to give his personality since when he is revived, he no longer has his memories so his personality might change and since he's now a zombie that might change it as well.

When I get stuck on a character's personality, I try to write a web of strengths, weaknesses, goals, motivations, and backstory. I really tend to just let the backstory drive my character's personality because I think that's how our experiences shape who we are in real life. If you want a more concrete method, try taking a personality test like Myers Briggs but put yourself in the mind of your character when responding to the questions. It might give you some more concrete points to focus on.

it occured to me I didn't ever establish a rank for Hector in the Korillon military. I'm sure it's obvious, but he's not interested in having it, but he would have it, being one of King Briar's best guard, so he pretty much ignores it (his rank) when he can.

IDK about old military structure but in modern, Officers have college degrees. Can't be an officer if you don't have one, you're just a regular E. I imagine Hector would be high up on the list, though, considering he guards a princess!

Historically, officer commissions were earned through promotion by merit, seniority, or, if you had the means (and didn't want to earn it) , purchase, so it's not completely outside the realm of possibility to be an officer. I had been thinking he would be somewhere between a high ranking sergeant and a captain. Maybe major, but that would be pushing it. Hector would be in the habit of trying to refuse a promotion, until being told by someone he genuinely sees as his superior it's non-negotiable.

I think E-7 upwards would be a reasonable rank for him to have! Ultimately the decision is up to you, though!

I think he'll be a very reluctant (and recent) captain, a rank that took a little longer than 2 years to pin him down and accept.
