the other side
synopsis
Throughout the multiverse, there are an infinite amount of universes; each with an immeasurable amount of worlds. And within those worlds, there is existence, creating a never-ending and cosmic stream of life. The differences between each planet, creature, and individual are more profound than any mind could comprehend. Yet, there is a single interconnecting truth that all entities must adhere to. After all, where there is life, there must be death. It's appearance is sudden, yet predictable. It's grasp is cold, yet warming. Some may fear it, some may accept it, but everything is bound to it. Even the stars themselves can't escape the end. It's this very reason why some live their lives as well as they can and pass on with peace of mind. Others, through their own neglect or through events out of their control, aren't lucky enough to die satisfied.
Curiosity leads to theorizations. It leads to religion. It leads people to question what exactly happens after someone's final moments. Is there an afterlife, reincarnation, or something even greater? Fortunately, those that pass on with satisfaction in their hearts may never know the answer. But those that died with malice or unfulfillment, are greeted with the next chapter. Those unfortunate souls get to continue on for just a little bit longer. Pity them, for they get to witness, The Other Side.
This story will revolve around six characters, each from a different universe, that have already died. How they've died is entirely up to you, but none of them were content with the way they passed or the life they led. After reawakening, the characters are greeted by an unknown entity that explains why they are here and what happens next. Using their unique abilities and skillsets, the group will go through a wide array of challenges until only one of them remains in order to get another chance at living a life they can be "content" with. What happens to the people that fail the challenges will be explained at a later point, but they will be removed from the story.
roles
The Eye
[Taken]
What it really is is up for debate, and what it's capable of doing is unknown. All that's known about The Eye is that it guides the participants through the various challenges without bias.
The Controller
[Taken]
The most intelligent member of the six. They're an excellent strategist, hyper observant, and extremely logical. Despite not being as physically gifted as some of the others, their natural ingenuity and quick-witted nature could allow them an overwhelming advantage over the obstacles they'll face. In addition, they have the ability to create a liquid with a faint odor inside of any cup. If someone drinks said liquid, The Controller will be able to verbally command them to do one action at any given point. However, this only works once per person.
The Larcenist
[Open | 1 Interested]
Secretive, untrustworthy, and manipulative. The Larcenist is the most acrobatically gifted member of the group and specializes in obtaining things that don't necessarily belong to them. Pickpocketing, lockpicking, and sneaking around are just a few of The Larcenist's strong points. Pronouncing on this, they have the ability to turn completely invisible at will. Of course, they still affect their surroundings when invisible. Additionally, they have the ability to mark an item or a location through touch, but never more than two at a time. The items they've marked can be instantly teleported either into their hands or at a marked location. However, the items they teleport must be something they're capable of lifting without assistance.
The Assailant
[Open | 1 Interested]
For one reason or another, The Assailant is the most violent of the six participants. They're also the most straight forward. As the name suggests, they excel at directly attacking other people or creatures. They're naturally the strongest, fastest, and most durable member of the group. They've mastered all forms of close combat with both their body and weapons. They have the ability to temporarily enhance their already monstrous physical feats to almost demigod levels; allowing them to become a blur when they sprint and lift things hundreds of times their own bodyweight. This can only be done twice, and when done the second time, they will be paralyzed indefinitely. They also have duller senses compared to their counterparts.
The Marksman
[Taken]
Nobody is as precise as The Marksman. It doesn't matter how far their target is. If they have the right equipment and a clear shot, they will hit their mark. From throwing knives to rifles, they are a professional when it comes to landing impossible shots. They have the ability to perceive the passage of time at a crawl three times. They would be able to see something as fast as a bullet fly through the air or the movement of a humming bird's wings. Each time they use this ability they will progressively lose more of their sight until becoming completely blind after the third use.
The Unknown
[Taken]
If there was a wildcard, The Unknown would be it. What skills they have and what abilities they've attained are known only to them. Though, despite having what's effectively a blank canvas, their downfall is their personality. They're volatile. Uncontrollable. Impulsive. Sadistic. For a lack of better words, they're batshit crazy.
The Human
[Open | 1 Interested]
The unremarkable. The others all come from places where they have the capability of obtaining supernatural powers, but The Human just comes from an ordinary planet named Earth. With no abilities, no skills, and a reliance on the people that aren't there to help them in the first place, how will The Human ever hope to survive? Is there more than meets the eye, or are they truly forsaken?
rules
First off, thank you for showing interest in this! I hope to get a good cast to play this story out. With that said, let's get to the rules.
Rule 1.) If I didn't make it obvious, I'd prefer if the characters in this story had anime/manga to represent them because I think it fits with the story I have in mind better.
Rule 2.) Because of the violent themes present, this will be 18+. The characters will also need to be 18+.
Rule 3.) Of course, follow the rules of RPN.
Rule 4.) No godmodding/autohitting outside of very certain situations.
Rule 5.) Take it how it is. Characters will 'die' in this story, and it might be at a time you aren't ready for it. I'll try to make it as fair as possible, but it's important to remember that any actions your character does IC do have consequences. You've been warned!
Rule 6.) Post regularly and with detail. More than 5 sentences per post is the minimum, but I and everyone else participating would love to read more than that. If you can't post then please tell me so I'll know what to do from there.
Rule 7.) Let's have fun with this!
