Once the greetings were out of the way, Vinnie asked everyone to go to the dining room so he could serve dinner. When they were all seated at the table and were eating the appetiser, Vinnie cleared his throat as he decided there was no time like the present to address his family.

"I know things rarely run smoothly and peacefully where this family is concerned," he began, looking to his kids, then Lorenzo. "I know I often keep secrets and think I'm withholding information to protect you all. I know that isn't always the best way to go about things and there is something that I feel you all need to be aware of before you find out through other means." He looked to his female cousin and smiled. "The purpose of Rayna's visit isn't just to catch up with us, though I'm sure she is happy to be with us all right now." Vinnie was debating how to say his next words, knowing a whole can of worms was bound to be opened as a result. "After everything the Romanos have been through with the Sullivans, there's not really an easy way to say this... Rayna is James Porter's mother..." He looked Rayna in the eyes, masking his own hatred for her son. He didn't want to put any words into her mouth, so would try not to. "I believe you wish to reunite with your son, am I correct?" he asked the woman directly.

Olivia remained silent throughout the whole speech, only looking up with interest as he mentioned James' name. After everything that had happened, she knew this was huge news and could only wonder what kind of trouble this would cause. As far as she was concerned, James was likely in on the attack on her or at least knew of the plan to have her stabbed.

Conor looked up when his quiet brother, Carrick, approached him and wished him a happy birthday. Conor smiled widely at his brother as he accepted the gift, opening it to reveal an antique watch which had clearly had some thought behind it. "Ah, Carrick, mate. It's amazing." He removed the watch he was already wearing, placing it on the worktop, then put the new one on around his wrist. "Thank you!" he told him. Carrick didn't get away quick enough before Conor grabbed him and pulled him in for a brotherly hug. "Much appreciated, little brother," he assured him.

Shannon Sullivan

Shannon had stood in the background, watching fondly as the younger generation of the Sullivan family exchanged gifts and chatted amongst each other. She was leaned against the door frame between the kitchen and the hallway, using the structure as support for herself. When Carrick walked over to stand by her side, she sent him a warm smile and rubbed his shoulder. "You enjoy yourself, dear. I'm going to go find a nice spot on the couch," she told him, her hoarse voice reflecting her tired state.

As she entered the empty lounge, Shannon approached the sofa James and Lucy had just been sat on. She had her hand pressed against her side, feeling the pain in her healing wounds as she walked. When she's slumped down on sofa, she felt something pressing into her lower back and reached her arm behind to retrieve the item. What she had found was a suede ring box and when she curiously opened it up, she quickly closed it again upon realising it wasn't a gift for Conor. She stuffed it underneath the cushion until she had chance to reunite it with the owner.

When their father told them that dinner was to be served, Alex moved over and took her seat at the table. She watched as Nicolo gently helped Olivia over to the table before taking the seat beside her. A smile was present on Alex's lips as she watched them, it was nice to see Nicolo with someone he cared so much about and it was good to see them both happy. But deep down, Alex did envy them as they could be so open about their relationship, but she quickly brushed that thought to the back of her mind as her father began to speak.

When he had stopped speaking both siblings sat in shock just staring at their father in stunned silence. Both were thinking along the same things, James porter was their cousin? And if Vinnie had always known this why on earth did he torture him. Alex usually would have a lot to say but she had a feeling Rayna was unaware of what all Vinnie had done to James and so she kept her mouth closed tightly. God this family gets more messed up every time she visits the house, Alex thought to herself.
Alex looked around the table to see nearly everyone was in the same shock, she realised Angel was missing which sparked a little fear in her, the last time Angel came to dinner late Emmett Sullivan had been killed. Not wanting to deal with any fear, she focused all her attention back onto Rayna and her father, but she hoped Angel would arrive at some stage, she needed to talk to him

Finn hadn't even noticed that Sinead had sat beside him until she spoke, that sweet voice gracing his ear with her presence. He could feel her hand squeezing his lightly as she revealed to him that she would be strong enough to take whatever was troubling him, that he could release the pent up guilt, grief, anger and frustration that had been boiling deep within him, waiting to spill over for a long time now. As much as he wanted to confide in his cousin...it was hard. It would be easy to speak the words he so desperately wanted to say to her, to let her know that this was what he was going through, to have someone understand. But Finn knew he was suffering alone, the thoughts that consumed him were the ones put into his head when he was stuck in that basement. It was hard to understand exactly what they were...but he wouldn't inflict anyone else with them. Sinead wouldn't be able to handle it...despite what she may think. She was too sweet too pure compared to him.

Finn realized that he had been silent for a long time, and a small part of him wished she would leave so that he wouldn't have to come up with a lie. Lying wasn't something Finn normally did, the man could be brutally honest at times. But he wouldn't poison Sinead with his thoughts. Opening his eyes slowly, he forced himself to soften his grip on the table and glanced at Sinead before glancing over at the rowdy group of cousins. They were all suppose to be having a good time. Biting his lip, he looked down at the table and sighed. "Its nothing Sin...thank you, for the support, really."

"I am so incredibly insistent that you are all open with me about your emotions....because I know that if you don't let them out, they could eat you alive."Finn started and his blue eyes glanced over to stare at Sinead for a moment, the pain was clear in his features, he wasn't going to hide it behind a smile. "I did that for years after my parents died...On some level, I fooled myself into believing that someday they would come home." Blinking back tears, he openly laughed at himself. "I was so stupid. I let my emotions pile up and now I'm releasing everything I never felt before. All the grief of my parents death, I'm finally beginning to let them go."

Lucy smiled softly when he agreed to come with her to the kitchen. She knew how much this was effecting his opportunity to have fun with the family tonight but she would do everything in her power to make sure the man could at least have one relaxing night of fun. He deserved more than anyone right now, well, except maybe Finn. That poor bloke was a mess, and Lucy hated to see him in such a state, but he was in way too deep to be pulled out just yet. James was only at the beginning, there was still time to save him from emotional turmoil, if it should arise.

Walking back into the kitchen, they were both greeted with the rowdy atmosphere and Lucy almost couldn't help the smile that formed on her face. It was nice to see everyone showing some sort of happy emotion instead of a sea of depressed faces. Lucy was once that way, and not so long ago, but she wasn't going to let herself be the way ever again. Despite her emotional growth, she knew that everyone was different. Lucy watched as her mother sneaked off towards the lounge and she watched with concern, thought after a small debate with herself she knew that her mother needed some time herself. It had been hard for her to heal from the shooting, she had never seen her mother struggle so much.

Gifts were being exchanged from Sinead, Arlene and Carrick appeasing Conor's earlier complaint, and now Sinead was talking with Finn who seemed to have taken a turn for the worst. Lucy tried to keep things light as she moved to get another drink. "I don't think I have ever met a more demanding Birthday Boy! If you would have acted that way when we were younger mom would have chased you around the house!" Lucy said to Conor. "Such demands do not get you everything dear boy." Lucy's gift for Conor was one that served two purposes. It was a birthday present for Conor, and a thank you gift for Alex. She knew that depending on who knows about the gift, they might be disappointed that she was encouraging such a relationship but Lucy could see how happy her brother was, and how much Alex loved him. "I don't think I should give you your gift now!"

When Finn finally spoke up and said it was nothing, but thanked her for the support, she nodded her head. She briefly looked away, towards nothing specific, as she forced herself to remain smiling, despite knowing he didn't want to share his problems with her. She was used to her family being like this around her, but it didn't make it any easier.

Sinead looked back to Finn as he actually continued to speak. Her face remained warm and encouraging towards him. She could see the pain on his face and that made her feel quite sad for him, but glad he was at least talking to her. "I think it's for the best that you're starting to let go, Finn. It doesn't mean you love your parents any less, but you're moving on, just like they would want you to," she reassured him. She was still in the process of letting her own father go, but she knew Finn had spent much longer holding onto his feelings and being unable to get over losing his parents. So many years eating away at him must have been terrible and she hoped she wouldn't fall into the same trap. "It wasn't stupid to let your emotions pile up - nobody can prepare you for losing your parents and nobody can tell you how to feel. All I can suggest is that you do release your feelings. Nobody can judge you for crying or yelling in the process. You do what you have to do to recover."

Sinead was grateful for having her family support her, so she would be damned if she didn't give Finn her own help. She also knew part of why she was piecing her heart back together was because she had Angel in her life, but that she knew people would judge her for, even if he was helping her to stay sane.

Aidan grinned as Arlene commenting on how he has grown. "Everyone's missed you." when she commented on being back in Chicago. Aid walked into the kitchen with Arlie, watching as Sinead and Arlene greeted Conor with big smiles, laughs and gift-giving. Aid smiled, pulling a small gift from his pocket. He walked forward, "Hey old man." he joked.

The person who opened the door caused a small smile to grow on Rayna'a face. She gave him her suitcases and entered, watching as he set her luggage down by the stairs.
Rayna accepted Vinnie's hug resting her chin on his shoulder. "I've missed seeing your annoying behind." Rayna joked, chuckling. The woman looked at the man, the last time she saw Vinnie, she was but a young girl working for her uncle. She remembered the last time she spoke to the man very vividly. The talk had actually been about Ronan and James.

"Make sure my baby boy is safe Vinnie."

Rayna smiled as he commented on how youthful she liked. "Yeah? I'm excited to see everyone." Rayna replied with a friendly tone in her voice. Her attention was redirected when he led her to the lounge. When she entered the lounge, she noticed a few people present. She gave a smile to her niece, nephew and Lorenzo. "You two have grown so much!" she mused.
Her eyes flicked over to Lorenzo, "It's so nice to see you Lorenzo." She spoke with a smile. Vinnie introduced her to Olivia. Rayne gave a kind smile to Olivia, "It's nice to meet you Olivia." Rayna voiced, beaming.

As Vinnie called for dinner, Rayna sat at the table next to Lorenzo. He explained the situation and posed a question at her. Rayna nodded lightly, "Yes I do. I want to see James." She answered.

Giovanni "Angel" Gambino

Angel's Chevrolet rolled up into the driveway, two Romano goons walking next to it. The purring engine came to a rest as the headlights flicked off. Angel stepped out of the car, sporting a black blazer, above the red tie Sinead had gifted him. He heard the familiar muffled voices from inside, distorted by the heavy walls. As he stepped inside the house, he was instantly greeted by the family-friendly environment, resting the bouquet of lilies down on the door-stand.

He walked into the seating area and saw Vinnie with Olivia, introducing a woman he wasn't yet familiar with. He pulled the hat off of his head, pressing it to his chest. "Bonjurno," He said to the three of them, walking into the room. His eyes moved to Olivia, holding a sincere smile. "I'm glad to see you're alright. You had me worried there." He then looked to Rayna, tilting his head lightly. "I don't believe we've met, Giovanni Gambino." He offered her his hand.

Athena did some shopping around town, wanting to take her mind off some things. She had acquired a new bracelet and some interesting nick knacks. The girl then made her way to Vinnie's, entering the house and to the kitchen. "Hey everyone." Athena greeted softly. The girl noticed and offered a small welcoming smile. "You must be Rayna. I'm Athena." Athena voiced softly. Rayna smiled, "Nice to meet you." Rayne replied to the pretty young girl.

Athena took a seat besides Alex, not realizing what had just taken place earlier. It was then that Athena noticed Angel was here as well. The girl avoided eye contact with the man, instead focusing her attention on everyone else. Her mind was a mess after catching sight of that horrible thing. She preferred to distract herself.

Everything that Sinead was telling him all sounded very similar to what he always told people. Nodding his head along with her words, Finn didn't feel that it was right that he was going through this, he always had to be someone's emotional rock, always by his family's side if they ever needed to talk. Oh, how the tables have turned. A small smile came to Finn's face after Sinead stopped talking and he removed his hand from its once again vice like grip on the table and took Sinead's small hand in his own before offering it a small kiss. "Thank you Sinny, really." Finn told her, knowing that it was hard for her as well. She had lost her father much more recently, it was her period to grieve, and here Finn was taking it up. "So can I rely on you to keep this pathetic man in the party spirit...I really want to try and at least give Conor the party he deserves." Finn murmured, gesturing over to all the fun everyone already seemed to be having.

Olivia looked to Nicolo after Vinnie's revelation, sending the young man a surprised expression. She soon changed it to a warm smile and lightly squeezed his hand. Nicolo had been amazing since the attack on her and she was grateful for him keeping her company in hospital and now looking after her in his home. She couldn't wait to get better so they could go out on that date they missed. Her attention was then drawn to Angel as he addressed her. "Thank you for your concern, Angel. I was worried myself," she admitted. She was by now sure the Sullivans had been punished and probably more than enough, but it still didn't stop her from resenting the Irish family.

With the late arrival of Angel and then Olivia, Vinnie rushed to his feet and served them their starter. It became clear to him Leo wasn't joining them but he could hardly act surprised. He was making an effort tonight, no complaining or sarcastic remarks. He didn't need to give the likes of Alex and Lorenzo fuel to get on his back again, especially not when there was likely to be enough fuel to ignite a situation around the table where the subject of James was concerned. As Vinnie returned to his seat, he heard Rayna confirm she wished to meet James.

Vinnie realised Angel and Athena had just missed the revelation about Rayna and James, but he was sure his next words would rectify that. "Rayna, whilst I know I can't stop you from seeing your son, I must warn you that the only way things have changed since you were sent away is that the war between the Romanos and the Irish gangs has only intensified. Ronan Porter's gang fell apart not long after you were gone and he aligned himself with the Sullivans. Your son, James, is practically a Sullivan and now our two families are at war. It was your son and Emmet Sullivan's daughter who were behind Gianna's death, only last year." He sighed. "It's going to be tricky..." he understated.

Nicolo sensed Olivia looking at him and turned his head to look at her, seeing her smile, Nicolo couldn't help but send one back as he took her hand. It was great to have her out of hospital and he much preferred being able to have her by his side. Nicolo looked up when he heard people enter the room and sent a welcoming smile to Athena and Angel. When his father spoke up again, Nicolo's eyes darted towards Rayna after his father admitted that James had been behind Gianna's death. He wondered how this was going to go down.

Alex looked up when Athena sat beside her and smiled giving the girl a half hug "hey Thena" she greeted. Alex wondered where Leo was as it was odd to see her without him these days but before she could ask, Alex heard someone else enter the room. Shortly after Angel arrived Vinnie dropped a bomb shell on Rayna about James and Alex inwardly sighed at what he left out. Biting her tounge to prevent herself from saying anymore to Rayna, Alex stood up from her seat. "Giovanni could I have a word please?" She asked in a friendly tone before walking out of the room and into her father's office where they would not be overheard. She hoped that he would follow her but considering she hadn't been very friendly the last few times, she wasnt sure if he would.

Sinead grinned when Finn took her hand and kissed it. She was glad when he asked her to keep him in the party spirit. She knew it would take more than a party to heal his broken heart, but it was at least a step in the right direction. "Ohhhh, I'm so glad you asked. I'm going to get this party started," she assured him. Sinead lifted her glass of wine and downed the entire contents, perhaps faster than she should have. She then looked to Finn and smiled brightly, bringing her index fingers to her face as if showing Finn how to smile too. "Now, you make that smile stick and take my hands," she said. She stood up and reached out to hold his hands so she could pull him out of his seat. "To the lounge, young Finnian! You're going to dance with me," she spoke loudly, to make sure the others knew the deal right now. The deal was, Sinead was in hyper mode and dancing was happening!

Conor laughed as Lucy made her remark about him being demanding, which would only serve to make him put on the act more, just to wind everyone up. "Mum knows the deal, that's why she gave me my present first thing this morning," he retorted, thinking of the new car she'd bought for him. He knew he was being spoiled on this particularly unimportant birthday milestone because of his father's death and his own ascension to head of the family, but he wasn't going to refuse gifts or be ungrateful. He was still going to milk his day, though. "Demands? If I were demanding, I'd be asking you where my gift is. You too, James," he began, deciding to involve the distracted man. "I notice you have been stood there quiet, trying to get out of it." Conor looked back to Lucy as she said she shouldn't give him his gift now. "Well, now you've got me all curious about what you have got me," he said, his voice a little more serious.

James decided to give in and also distract Conor from fishing for information about what Lucy had got him. He crouched down and opened one of the cupboard doors, reaching into the back to retrieve a well-hidden gift-wrapped box. "Here you go, Your Majesty," he remarked, handing the box to Conor. Inside the box was a crystal decanter and a bottle of Irish Whiskey.. "I figured it would look nice on your office desk. I'm sure you'll drink the whiskey before it even reaches the decanter, though," he teased.

"Oh, how sweet. Thanks, mate," Conor said. Placing the gifts down on the table, he forced James in for a hug. Conor loved hugs, it seemed. Knowing how uncomfortable James probably was only made Conor prolong the gesture. He eventually released the poor man and glanced to his older sister. "Sorry, Luce. James is mine now," he teased her. Conor's attention was then drawn to his cousin Aidan and he chuckled as the lad called him an old man. "We can't all be youthful like you, Aid. You'd better start respecting your elders, child!" He smiled as he accepted the gift from his cousin. "Now, let's see what you've got me..." he said, as he unwrapped the gift...

Finn smiled slightly as the girl's excited energy got to him. Taking her hands, he allowed her to pull him out of his seat, leaving the 6th empty glass of alcohol on the table where it would stay. Finn laughed as Sinead announced to the whole house that they would be dancing in the lounge, making it clear to everyone that the party had indeed started. "Dancing? I haven't danced in ages!" Finn told Sinead as they entered the lounge. Upon entering the lounge, he noticed that Shannon sat on the couch, looking just like he had been feeling these last couple of days. "Hey Aunt Shan." Finn murmured to his Auntie as he allowed Sinead to pull him over to where they would dance.

"Now Sin, I could very well step all over your feet...and if I do..I must apologize." Finn scratched the back of his head as he tried to fight off the blush that threatened to show on his cheeks. "But...I am also a little buzzed now..so that could be part of it."

Lucy couldn't help the large smile on her face as Conor grew more curious about the gift that she had gotten him. He would just have to be patient and wait. Luckily, James distracted the man turned child by presenting Conor with a crystal decanter and a bottle of Irish whiskey, giving Lucy a chance to quickly drop the subject of her brother's gift until later that evening when she could have a moment with him. No one else knew in the family about Conor's secret relationship besides James and herself...so this gift would seem odd out of context and she didn't want to risk any questions being asked.

The blonde watched with a raised brow at the hug exchanged between the two large men and couldn't help but laugh at the awkwardness in James' face. Lucy feign shock when Conor told her that James was his, shaking her head once, she grabbed onto her lover's bicep before leaning into him with a sly smile. "Sorry Conor, you might be the birthday boy but you are gonna have to fight me for him." Lucy joked with her brother before he turned to Aidan who presented him with a gift. Lucy looked to James and offered a smile. "Thanks for the distraction, love!" She grabbed her glass from before and poured herself another drink. The sound of music coming from the lounge made her smile a bit as she swayed to the music slightly.

Olivia looked down as Vinnie explained some things about James. Given that there were two sides to this war, she knew this was going to be much more than tricky and Rayna wasn't going to like the full story. Olivia looked to Athena and sent her a small smile. She wondered where Leo was, with the guy not only dating Athena but also being a good friend of Nicolo and Alex. After Alex had left the table wishing to speak with Angel, Olivia turned to Nicolo but kept her voice quiet so as not to annoy Vinnie. "Are you okay? Strange news..." she softly told Nicolo. "Where's Leo tonight?" she then asked, glancing to poor Athena.

Sinead was genuinely happy when Finn didn't put up a fight and got up out of his seat with her. As they passed Shannon and Finn spoke to the woman, Sinead leaned in to give her mother a quick kiss on the cheek, to which Shannon gently squeezed her daughter's hand.

"Hey Finnian, love," Shannon replied to her nephew and warmly smiled. She'd been kept updated on Finn's troubles by other members of the household, so was glad to see him up and about this evening. Her nephew had saved her life the night she was shot and so she felt quite protective of him now he was vulnerable himself.

Sinead led Finn to the larger open space in the lounge and noticed an upbeat swing song was playing at the moment. "I'm sure I can forgive you if you do step on me," she assured him, giggling at his blushing. She faced Finn, placing one hand on his shoulder and holding his other. "I hope you're not going to get dizzy too easily, there's a lot of spinning and twirling in this one," she warned him. She led the way and soon enough, she was leading him around. Keeping hold of one of his hands, she quickly twirled around on the spot like the spinning fairy in the music box Lucy had gifted to her from New York..

James grinned as Lucy grabbed his arm and said Conor would have to fight her for him. He then looked to Lucy and nodded his head as she thanked him for the distraction. He watched her pour her drink before she started swaying a little to the music. He placed his hand lightly on her lower back so as not to restrict her from moving to the music. He poured himself another drink before taking a quick sip. "You know, if you want to dance..." he began, taking another sip as he glanced around to see who was present. "This is a small venue. I might be able to oblige," he offered her, following it up with a wink.

Ronan Porter and Vincenzo Romano

ce1b7024e3a4c6964bba9f99f375ec97.jpg

Vinnie gave Rayna a tight hug, not sure when he would next see his cousin. His father, Michael, and uncle, Salvatore Caito stood waiting nearby.

"Make sure my baby boy is safe Vinnie," Rayna asked of her cousin.

"I will, Rayna. It won't be for long. They'll realise this is the wrong decision," Vinnie reassured her. He knew she was being punished for her betrayal, but he hoped their fathers would see reason. Once Salvatore had led Rayna away so he could drag her back to Italy, Vinnie returned to his strict father and cleared his throat as he decided to question the boss of the family. "I don't see what good this will do. Ronan will demand to know where she has been taken. You could have at least allowed her to take James with her - surely a young child needs its mother most." Vinnie shook his head and sighed. "The next time Ronan shows his face and starts causing trouble. What am I supposed to tell him?"

"You tell him Rayna chose to leave and she wants nothing more to do with him and his bastard. Tell him Rayna is with someone else and the Romanos want nothing to do with his child." Michael stood close to Vinnie, his presence even more intimidating than usual. "Ronan and the Irish gangs are the enemy. That child of his is no part of our family. Remember that."

Vinnie had just left Gianna and baby Monte at a diner as he headed out to a business meeting. Two of his father's guards were nearby, but that hadn't stopped Ronan from approaching and beckoning Vinnie to a quiet area. "Is it true. Has Rayna been forced to return to Italy?" he desperately asked. The Irishman didn't exactly get along with Vinnie and they often came to blows, but he saw the Italian as much more reasonable than the Romano elders. "You have to help bring her back. This isn't right. Please..."

"Rayna is not coming back," Vinnie simply told him. Recalling what his father had said and seeing the hope in Ronan's eyes, Vinnie knew what he had to do. "What isn't right is that you slept with my cousin. You and your shitty Irish friends are all scum. Your dirty little bastard child is scum. You and James were a mistake - Rayna wants nothing more to do with you and that's why she's gone. She couldn't hide the shame any longer and she begged her father for help, to let her start a new life away from you." Vinnie hated this, but he knew he had little choice. "The best thing you can do is crawl back into the sewers where-" The impact of Ronan's fist against Vinnie's jaw silenced the Italian. Without further word, Vinnie returned the favour, punching Ronan in the stomach and slamming the man's back against the wall. "I'd hoped to avoid this..." he hissed.

Vinnie stepped away from Ronan and glanced to the two men who Michael had already instructed to kick the hell out of the Irishman. Vinnie stood back and watched, until finally Ronan was bloodied, beaten and barely conscious on the ground. Vinnie crouched down so he could look Ronan in the eyes. "If you mention Rayna's name again, you'll be killed. I don't want that, and James won't want that. Understood?" Vinnie coldly threatened Ronan.

Finn was relieved when his Aunt graced him with a warm smile, feeling better that she could muster up some smiles as well. The song that they were trying to dance to and it felt out of place for the mood Finn had previously been in. But the smile on Sinead's face was contagious and so was her energy. As she placed her hands on him, one in his own and the other on his shoulder, he did the same. Placing his hand lightly on her waist and giving her small hand in his own a delicate squeeze. Finn was amused when she began leading but he wasn't as familiar with this style of dance as she was.

She twirled under his arm and he smiled widely. Once she returned to his arms, he raised an eyebrow. "Gonna let your cousin take the reigns?" He asked with a teasing smile before taking the lead, feeling confident he had gotten use to the movements and the alcohol seemed to have little effect on his moves.

Lucy raised a curious eyebrow in James' direction as he spoke. Lucy was use to not dancing with the man much at anything really and it wasn't like she missed it much, sure dancing could be fun but it really took both partners enjoying it to really have fun. Taking a small drink from her glass, as she continued to sway slightly, she was well aware of his hand on her lower back and moved her free hand around to grasp it lightly, giggling as he winked. "I could definitely go for a dance, but it doesn't have to be serious or anything! "Lucy said smiling widely as she moved her hips a little more. "Lead the way?"

Lorenzo sat silently at the table, his mind still on the conversation him and Vinnie had only moments ago. Though he knew of Rayna’s return, he wasn’t sure the motive, or what Vinnie had planned. But he knew something was awry...

Hearing that Rayna’s son was James Porter didn’t shock him one bit. He didn’t know the Sullivans well enough to be shocked, and he had never met the man anyways. Sipping his beverage, his emerald eyes flashed to his cousins dully. This family had to much drama for him to even car anymore, if only times were simpler...

Lorenzo stood atop a rooftop balcony, overlooking the rolling hills of Tuscany. Today was his last day in Italy, tomorrow being his trip to America for the first time. But, he was surrounded by both of his cousins, Vinnie, and Rayna. Vinnie troubled him greatly, seeing a darker lifestyle for his childhood counterpart, and it pained him greatly. Rayna on the other hand was going to be lucky, pregnant and hopefully free from the grasps of his torturous family.

Good luck with yourself Vincenzo, don’t let your damned father control you. As for you Rayna, don’t let that child grow to be trouble. We don’t need another Vinnie.” He smiled, hugging both cousins as he gave his goodbyes. Tonight was for family only, no other distractions...

James Porter

"I'll dance to whatever is playing," James assured Lucy. Right now, it sounded like an upbeat and non-serious number. This made him decide to take off his suit jacket, so as not to get too warm whilst dancing. As he hung the garment over the back of the chair, he was shocked to realise the pocket was empty, but he hid his discomfort well. James dreaded a drunken Conor finding it and making a big deal in front of everyone. James' cheeks had reddened a little as he tried to figure out when he'd last seen the item, but that could very easily be chalked down to his embarrassment about dancing. He turned back to Lucy and took her hand as she told him to lead the way. "Of course, love," he said and walked with her to the lounge, where Sinead and Finn were happily dancing together. That was a breath of fresh air to see, considering how troubled both of them had been this week and with plenty of good reason.

As James passed Shannon, he remembered he'd been sat on the same sofa not very long again. "Evening, Mrs Sullivan," he said, glad to see she was well enough to join the party. As he looked to her, he saw the slightest of smirks on the woman's face. When Lucy wasn't looking, Shannon gestured to James to let him know she'd found what he'd lost, which both relieved and slightly embarrassed him. James placed a hand on Lucy's waist and another on her shoulder, leading her into the rather upbeat swing dance. James was more of a slow dancer, but seeing Finn and Sinead already putting in some effort removed any reluctance James might have felt. "Out of my comfort zone again," he told Lucy. "But I wouldn't have it any other way."

In the back of his mind, James was curious as to what Shannon knew about his mother. He was toying with the idea of asking her, considering the note specifically mentioned Mrs Sullivan, but he wasn't sure if he should bother her just yet.

Sinead was so happy to see Finn smiling and it made her feel good to know she'd made him feel better for at least this moment. "Of course, Sir. Lead the way," she agreed when he asked if he should take the reigns. She continued to happily dance with her cousin and in the back of her mind was already wondering if she would be able to help get Maggie and Carrick into the same spirit too. They'd been so quiet all evening and she wanted them to have fun tonight.

Sinead was surprised to see old man James leading Lucy into a dance. That was the last thing she expected, having never seen the man dance or even get into the party spirit. "Even James and Lucy are dancing," she told Finn, grinning widely. As they got closer to the other two, Sinead couldn't help but make a remark to James and Lucy. "Look at you two lovebirds... You're adorable," she enthused. She then giggled as she saw James blush again.

Finn happily took the lead and was actually enjoying himself after having such a terrible couple of days. Sinead had an amazing gift of being able to raise people's spirits and he was glad that he let her convince him into dancing. The movements were a little fast for the still sore man but he still danced with ease. "Thank god I know how to do this." He breathed out twirling Sinead around again before catching her in his arms. But as he moved again, he stepped on Sinead's foot and gasped. "Oh shit! Sin! Sorry!" He let out a warm laugh, it radiated throughout the house like the sunrise after a long nights storm. Finn's cheeks blushed slightly and he looked over at James and Lucy who joined them in dancing. Sinead was teasing James and Finn smiled at the man, seeing the blush in his cheeks. "Don't let this little one embarrass you mate, knock her down a few pegs" He teased Sinead and gave her a playful smirk. "But seriously, you both are pretty adorable." Finn added which caused Lucy to let out a laugh.

Lucy was actually excited to dance, it had been a while since she had the opportunity to do so and with James offering, she wasn't going to waste this once in a life time opportunity. "Mommy!" Lucy cheered upon seeing her mother in the room, glad to see her out of her own bedroom now, she kissed her mother's cheek before turning to watch Sinead and Finn as they both kept up with the up beat music. Finn was looking so much better and that relieved Lucy greatly. Lucy let James lead the way into the dance and she was surprised at how well he was doing. "You know for someone who hates dancing, you are doing a fabulous job at it." Lucy murmured to him, laughing as Finn and Sinead complimented them. Lucy sent her sister a small teasing glare, "You know James and I have fun right?" She asked. "We aren't all old and dull like you think." Lucy defended herself and her lover, having some of the best times of her life with him.

Lucy was led into a twirl which she took in graceful steps before heading back into James arms. "I think you need to dance more." She said to James as she met him back in his arms, having time to quickly kiss his cheek again before spinning back out. "you know I thought this was Conor's birthday party...Why isn't the birthday boy dancing?" Lucy made sure to call out over the music so Conor would hear.

Carrick had been watching the rest of his family, either speaking with someone or dancing, something that he really didn't want to do. So he started to walk toward where the drinks where located before he titled his head in confusion. He wasn't sure which drink was alcoholic or which was just a normal drink, so being who he was, he had decided to pour it on one of the cup and drink it. Because he only knew of the flavor from the drink he had stolen from Conor, he hadn't realized that he had drank some alcohol. Which immediately took effect on him, making him randomly dance by himself, while at the same time he was pouring more of the drink on the cup. Maybe he should had read the label on the bottle before he had decided to drink from it.

James smirked as Lucy complimented his dancing. "I've spent a lot of time watching others dance whilst accompanying your family places. I learned a few moves - never knew when they'd come in handy. It turns out, I don't mind dancing as long as it's with you," he reassured her. James rolled his eyes when Sinead made her usual comment about him being an old man and when Lucy defended them, he playfully stuck his tongue out at Sinead. "Nevermind what we're doing. You two children mind your own business and enjoy yourselves before your bedtime," he joked.

James pulled Lucy back into his arms and she spoke to him then kissed his cheek before spinning back out. When he pulled her in again he held her close for a time. "I will gladly dance more with you," he promised her and kissed her on the lips. They then continued to dance and Lucy shouted out about Conor not dancing. "If I'm out here dancing then Conor has no excuse," he remarked. "He's probably too busy hoarding his presents."

Sinead suddenly remembered Finn had been injured earlier in the week and was about to check he was okay with dancing, but then he stepped on her foot. He quickly apologised and laughed. "Oh, that's alright, Finn. I forgive you," she said, laughing a little herself as there was no harm done. It had taken her by surprise but she knew it was an accident. "But you need to watch your language in front of ladies, mister!" she lightly teased him, not missing his use of the word shit.

Sinead grinned as Lucy assured them she and James did have fun. "She means stamp collecting and knitting, like old people do for fun," Sinead jokingly told Finn, but loud enough for Lucy and James to hear. When Finn stuck up for James, Sinead pretended to be offended. "Knock me down? Psh. You wouldn't stand a chance!" she joked. She laughed at James as he made his comment about her bedtime. She then smiled reassuringly to James. "Finn is right, though. You two are totally adorable."

After dancing a little more, Sinead looked to Finn to check he was okay considering his injuries. "You let me know if you need a rest, or dance to a slower song," she told him.

Conor Sullivan

As he stood with Aidan, opening his gift, Conor's attention was drawn to his younger brother for a time. Carrick was oddly dancing alone and pouring himself another alcoholic drink. Conor was certain his brother didn't realise he was drinking alcohol, but he decided to leave the lad to it and couldn't help but grin to himself as he looked away. They were in the safest place possible, so Conor figured a drunk Carrick would be hilarious.

Athena raised a shocked brow up at the mention of James Porter. She glanced at Rayna, slowly putting the dots together that Rayna was the mother of the Romano's worst enemy. She smiled at Alex, when the girl greeted her.

"Oh." Rayna mumbled, taken aback by the information she had just received from Vinnie. The woman let out a sigh, glancing to the man. "Well, I understand that this is going to be a bit tricky but I won't give up on trying to meet up with James." Rayne replied softly.

Athena looked to Olivia as she questioned her on Leo's whereabouts. "Oh um..." Thena murmured, trying to come up with an excuse. She didn't want to unpack all the feelings that she currently held inside. The curly headed girl fiddled with a loose string on her pants.
"I'm not sure. He's somewhere else. Probably working." Athena answered softly, trying to muster up a happy smile. Although, it wasn't very convincing. You could see the immense pain in her brown eyes. The girl didn't particularly lie but didn't come right out and say why Leo wasn't by her side as usual.

Athena took a tip of water, wondering where the young man was doing at this exact moment. ...

"No, I wouldn't expect you to give up. Not when you've travelled so far to meet your son," Vinnie agreed. "We can discuss this privately, later." He knew things were going to be difficult from here, especially if she did meet James, who he didn't doubt would spare no details about the things the Romanos had done to him and Ronan. The Porters and Sullivans were far from innocent, but he knew how protective a mother could be over her child, even if it was one she hadn't seen for 25 years. Noticing everyone had finished eating their starters, Vinnie collected the empty plates so he could return to the kitchen and start to serve the main course.

Whilst Vinnie was away in the kitchen, Olivia listened to Athena. The girl seemed a little more troubled than her words would let on. It seemed like she was hiding something, but Olivia couldn't be too sure and didn't want to cause her to become upset in front of everyone. She decided to go along with the explanation about Leo. "Oh, Leo is such a hard worker. I guess he has to be, working for Vinnie!" she softly replied. Poor Athena looked upset and Olivia decided she should maybe wait to speak with her in private.

Vinnie soon returned to the dining room and placed the large roast, trays of vegetables and sauces in the centre of the table so everyone could help themselves to food.

After acquainting himself with Rayna, Angel fixed himself a glass of scotch at the side bar. He rested his elbows on the sides of the table, watching the family mingle. After partaking in a brutally violent act, it was always good for him to be enveloped in social atmosphere; just to keep him on the rails. Every time he let himself fall into that dark place of his, it was always a gamble that he wouldn't come back. It was difficult to let that vile evil escape the inner depths of his soul, only to lock it back up without any repercussions. Only someone truly unstable could accomplish that time and time again, so cheers to that. Angel smiled, sipping the beverage.

He snapped out of his dream-like state at the sound of his name. He turned his head to see it was Alex that had addressed him. He saw her turn and walk towards Vinnie's office, before disappearing behind the door. Angel stood off the counter and cleared his throat. He adjusted the trimming's of his blazer before strutting off to the office. Once inside, Angel closed the door behind them. He then looked to Alex, keeping the glass of scotch to his chest. "What's up?"

Finn nodded his head firmly once as Sinead told him to let her know if he needed to take a break or even slow down the song a bit. Finn wasn't a quitter, he would definitely see this song through till the end. Finn was enjoying himself for once, it was nice to have the whole family in such great spirits and it was effecting his own greatly. "Don't worry Sinead, I'll stick through this song till the end." He winked at his cousin, reassuring her that he would be able to make it despite his injuries. He was sore, but right now it wasn't important to him anymore. They continued their dancing until the song came to an end. Once it did, that was when Finn was out of breath. He gave a laugh as he looked up to Sinead, moving to sit in one of the chairs. "You dance circles around me!"

Lucy was quite interested to hear that a lot of these moves were learned through observation, a large smile growing on her face when he said that he didn't mind dancing as long as it was with her. "Oh James." Lucy murmured softly as her cheeks grew warm and red from the sincerity of the comment. The playful banter between the two couples was entertaining, and Lucy laughed along as Sinead and James shot back little remarks, making the dance even more entertaining in itself. Lucy was not expecting the kiss he pulled her into and was left breathless coming out of the turn. To his comment, Lucy smiled again and when they met back in the center to return dancing together she had a question. "Dance with me for the rest of our lives?" It was an innocent question really, she really hoped James wanted to stick around that long. It seemed like he did for the most part. The music came to an end and Lucy's attention was caught by Finn moving to sit down in a chair, looking tired out. But once he was situated, she turned back to James and raised an eyebrow, waiting for an answer to her innocent questioning.

Once Alex got into the office, she made her way over to the cabinet and poured herself a small glass of whiskey before leaning against the table. She took a sip of her drink before placing it on the table, looking up when she heard the door close.
"I know we havn't seen eye to eye lately, but I need you to do me a no questions asked favour" she said to him "I don't know who else to ask and I don't know how to aquire it on my own" she explained. When Olivia asked where Leo was, Nicolo realised it was strange that he was not here, especially since Athena was. He also realised that he had not seen Leo in the last few days and reminded himself to try and meet up with his friend. He looked at Athena when she spoke and he couldnt help but notice the pain in her eyes. He knew now was not the best time to try and talk about it . He also believed that Olivia or Alex would be better to talk to her, since she probably needed a girl chat. When his father brought out the food.
