[div class="container"][div class="containercont"][div class="chapterpic"][/div] [div class="scroll"][div class="scrollbox"][div class="title"]MYSTERY INC. - THE NEXT GENERATION[/div][div class="text"]you know the story. it all started in the late sixties, the legend of scooby-doo and the mystery gang. where a dopey and very gullible great dane finds himself joining four california high school students (fred, daphne, velma, and shaggy) on a number of quests to solve the strange mysteries occurring in what was thought to be their fairly normal hometown. each mystery would be current and unusual and involved the group stopping someone from wreaking certain havoc on the world. the gang always seemed to be driving in the mystery machine, a van that fred received as a fixer-upper project from his dad, returning from or going to a regular teenage function, when their van would develop engine trouble or break down for a variety of reasons. (probably because fred can’t fix up a car to save his life. he’s a trap-setting kind of guy. not a car guy.) most of the time, their (unintended) destination would turn out to be suffering from a ghost/monster problem, and the gang volunteered to investigate the case. in their crummy town, nothing like this ever happened. eventually, enough clues could be found to convince the group of teens that whatever paranormal entity was thought to be bothering the establishment was actually a scheming drug dealer or petty thief (they never included those details in the show). invariably, the ghost or monster was apprehended and revealed to be an apparently blameless figure or an otherwise innocuous local who used the disguise to cover up a crime or a scam. after proclaiming “and i could have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!”, the villain was then taken away to prison, and the gang was allowed to continue on their way to their destination.
but that was all twenty years ago, give or take. eventually, those meddling kids would all grow up and settle down, leaving behind their adolescence and mystery-solving days for good. besides, running around decrepit buildings in a broken down van every other day can get a little tedious over time. and it definitely wouldn’t be able to pay the bills. they needed to make a life of their own too, right? besides, mystery solving didn’t make as much money as they all had hoped it would.
it’s now the end of the 1980s, and it’s apparent that the past is meant to stay in the past. but what if something happened? what if something, or someone, came out of the shadows once again, ready to strike fear into others? and what if the story didn’t end there? what if there was a new generation of mystery solvers? and what if, this time, they didn’t let the mysteries find them, and they flipped the script? scoping out the mysteries themselves? in a town like coolsville, where secrets tend to lie under the surface of the seemingly perfect little town, measures like this need to be taken. but it’s not just the “monsters” you need to watch out for, it’s the people behind it all. and mystery incorporated won’t stop until they find them.
in which — a group of four teenagers (and a mutt), who usually wouldn’t be caught dead in the same room together, find themselves suddenly reliving the legend that their parents had set in stone almost exactly twenty years ago. but the cases aren’t criminal... they’re paranormal.

ROLES.
• the leader — fred jones’s son is almost identical to his father, minus the blinding orange ascot and plain brown shoes. he’s just as fearless and as level-headed as his dad was and is, but this means that he can sometimes just walk into a situation and just wing it, using background knowledge to get the job done. even though he means well by doing this, he acts before he really thinks on anything, except if he’s setting and planning traps like his old man. as the leader of the team, he takes the lead in solving mysteries, and despite being a little bossy (mom friend much?) from time to time, he values his friends and puts them before himself even in the worst of situations. — open
• the damsel in distress — daphne blake’s daughter might look like her mother’s long lost younger sister with the same fiery red hair and striking fashion sense, but she is nothing like her materialistic mother, minus her amazing looks and trendy fashion sense. daphne, despite being a prude, has raised a kind-hearted, enthusiastic, and fun-loving daughter, but she’s also the most clumsy and danger-prone member of the gang, since her curiosity often gets the better of her and leads her to getting to situations she never intended even becoming apart of. but she knows how to handle herself in these kind of situations, and knows how to take care of herself when she needs to, especially when it comes to looking good. — open
• the hungry slacker — norville “shaggy” roger’s son is almost a carbon copy of his father, except he isn’t a complete weedhead like his old pops (someone had to say it), and his dog is much smaller than a humongous great dane. unlike his father, he isn’t considered a hippie, despite sharing the same laid back persona, hair, clothes, and inappropriate use of slipping in the word "like" in his speech. and much like shaggy and scooby, he and his dog have nearly insatiable appetites, as well as tendencies towards goofing off and cowardice. but, despite being afraid, he tries to make light of situations by cracking jokes to boost the gang’s mood, even if they’re in mortal peril. — open
• the genius — velma dinkley’s daughter might have inherited her harvard-worthy smarts and horrible eyesight, but a lot of the similarities stop there. while she’s still the smartest and more strategic of the group, her negative attitude is more than enough to get into someone’s head and seriously make them question if they are really as stupid as she says they are or not. she doesn’t believe in the paranormal very easily, and often makes fun of those who do. she isn’t a jerk on purpose, she’s just super uptight and can’t really do much but try her best to keep everything in her life under control. at the end of the day, she’s still a good person at the end of the day, just kind of standoffish, is all. — reserved for me!
RULES
1. please be respectful of the rules that rpnation already has into place! they work super hard for this amazing site. I created this roleplay back in my discord server days and have tweaked it just for this site!
2. i don’t know quite how everything works just yet, so there are no reserving or claiming for roles! i want it to be fair for everyone wanting to participate, because if not, i’d feel super bad for not doing it sjdjfjg please don’t ask for one, it’s sadly not going to happen. you can post a sheet for the character you’re interested in, and once the deadline is passed, roles will be filled accordingly! i hope this is okay with you guys! good luck!
3. please be a frequent poster (around two times a week at least?? i dunno, we’ll see!), and please don’t drop out! if you’re too busy with other things happening right now, you probably won’t be accepted. sorry!
4. there’s a 2 paragraph minimum for this roleplay, but feel free to go for more! do whatever is comfortable. (i write quite a bit myself! i started writing my introduction post and it’s already eight hundred words what-)
5. we’re all in this together! (imagine the music) yes, i knows quoting from high school musical is kind of stupid, but it’s true! i’m thinking that we could really make this interesting and form a whole case for the gang to solve (with plenty of scenes where they run around a spooky haunted house), as long as we’re committed! i’m looking forward to really having fun with this, since their initial banter with each other would be hilarious! i don’t know exactly how they’ll meet up yet, but i am super open to ideas/suggestions!
6. there are going to be some spooky moments (chase scenes through haunted houses, moments that deal with types of phobias, close encounters with ghosts, dangerous situations, etc.) happening during this roleplay, so if you don’t think that you can handle it, please don’t submit a character!
7. don’t be afraid to speak up, let me know if you have any questions. whether it be the plot, the characters, just about anything! i’m currently working on the character sheet, and it should be up sometime later tonight!
