Fandom The Mortal Toilet Bowl

( I think it had something to do with the server, cause the same thing happened to me. )

Eliza tried to focus on something, anything as they made it down the elevator and through the halls. People had been coming in and out of her room, people she hadn't met yet and some she had. Some asked if she were okay out of curiosity, some asked who she was, and the rest doctored her. Some fed her, and some gave her water. It was a long and weakening process, considering she was already so tired. Had someone asked her, she wouldn't have been able to tell them how she'd gotten back to her bed. In fact, everything in the greenhouse had been so quick, she hardly remembered even meeting Alex.

Frowning, and somewhat choking on water, Eliza laid her head back. This was the last time for a while that anyone would be in to force water of food into her. It was a chance to sleep, even if she knew what would happen when she did. The nightmares would come, but hopefully she wouldn't react how she normally did. It would probably only serve to freak everyone out more than she already had. However, for the first time in a long time, Eliza found herself thinking about something other than her parents death as she slipped into sleep. She was thinking of her new found friend, Nath. Something about him kept her attention, unlike anything had been able to in months. And silently, she let herself smile, having been alone. After that, she was asleep in moments.

Unfortunately only a few hours passed before she sat up with a scream, "Mother!" She'd cried, and it took her a moment to gather where she was. Elizabeth touched her hands to her temples and drew her knees into her. Someone had changed her into a white night gown she'd noticed (barely). Her brain was slamming into the side of her skull, or at least it felt that way. Where her hands rested on her head she could feel her hair curled and matted to her skin where she'd begun to sweat. Tears stained her cheeks, and Eliza also realized she'd been crying in her sleep.

Finally, after taking a few more deep breaths and wiping her eyes, Elizabeth scanned the room for a clock. When her eyes fell on three bright red numbers she winced. Only when her eyes had met the bright light had she realized how dark it was in her room. The curtains had been drawn to close out the light, and the door shut. If there had been anyone in the room she probably wouldn't have known it. Shadowhunter's were sneaky folk, and if there was someone keeping an eye on her now who didn't want her to know, she wouldn't. Not unless she went looking for them. However, with her head still pounding, Eliza wondered if she'd even have the energy to cover herself up again once she'd laid back down.

"Oh my god pouty mouth, will you stop looking so gosh darn concerned," Iris drawled, sprawled back on Nath's bed, throwing a ball against the ceiling, although she took a break from this to throw it at Nath's head, missing when he dodged it. "She's just a bit sick. She's not dying or anything."

"Even if she did injure Alex's pride," Karl added, sat at Iris's feet, playing on his phone.

"She didn't injure my pride," Alex countered with a sniff, sat on the windowsill and definitely sulking. "She's just a bitch is all."

"She called you out on your bullshit, and you didn't keep your cool," Nath countered, crossing his arms over his chest. "Doesn't mean you can talk about her like that."

With Eliza sick, the four Shadowhunters had been put on nurse duty. Alex and Iris were just back from a hunt they'd taken together, and Karl had been doing whatever it was that he did in his free time. Nath meanwhile had taken up primary care, with Iris handling any delicate matters that might offend Eliza's sensibilities (e.g. changing her nightgown for her, etc.). For now, they had left her to rest, now that her temperature was under control and she'd seemed peaceful, smiling in her sleep.

Then they all heard the cry of "Mother!" and knew their time resting was over.

"I'll go," Nath said, before anyone else could. Alex with a crying Eliza could be no safe thing, and Iris and Karl could be a bit... well, he knew he'd rather not be comforted by them if he woke up screaming. Leaving them behind in his room, which was only two down from Eliza's - hence why they had chosen to reside in it - he went to hers, knocking gently on the door before entering into the darkness. "Eliza?" He asked gently, the open door allowing in some light, illuminating her tear stained cheeks. Shit, he thought to himself, immediately regretting leaving her alone. It had probably been a nightmare, or something of the like, and he should have been there to wake her up. Still, it was too late now. "Can I get you anything?" He asked, leaving the door ajar as he walked in.

The light that came streaming in made Eliza eyes hurt. She squinted and rubbed her cheeks quickly trying to get some sort of normality back to her face. When her eyes finally adjusted after a few long moments of quiet she looked up at Nath. "I think I'm okay, but I could use some water..." She admitted and frowned. Her throat felt like she'd swallowed sand and she wasn't exactly comfortable. Not especially now that she was dressed in something so thin and looked like hell. Her sweat matted hair had begun to dry out, but she was sure it curled and looked messy. Also, Eliza wouldn't have doubted that her eyes weren't puffy and red.

When Nath came back with water she took it with a small grateful smile, "Thanks..." Eliza murmured and looked over to the door where the light came through. She heard others talking down the hall, or rather, arguing. She wondered if it were because of her, or if something else had happened between Iris and Karl while she'd been asleep. It was hard to tell, and there was another voice in the mix. If she hadn't been so out of it she would have realized it belonged to Alex.

"I'm sure everyone is annoyed with me already..." Eliza said and looked down at her lap. The sadness and disappointment she felt was clear in her expression now. Normally Elizabeth wouldn't have shown this emotion she felt, but she was too tired to keep it in. Too tired to lie about what it was she really felt. "I've been nothing but a pain since I got here. I'm sorry," Eliza looked up at Nath now, her sad blue eyes glassy with tears. "I wouldn't have come if I knew I'd be this much trouble for everyone..." Her voice trailed off and she shook her head. You're such an idiot, she told herself. But the way that Nath looked at her, it was something she hadn't ever felt before. It sent shivers down her spine, and she was happy to have him around. This wasn't something she'd felt in a long time, and she felt her cheeks flush as she looked at him. Maybe being friends wouldn't hurt....? Eliza hoped so, because she had the feeling it was going to take a lot for her to let this one go.

Laughing, Nath took a seat on the end of her bed and leant over his knees. "They're not annoyed with you, don't worry; they always bicker this much. Actually, that's a lie, I think Alex may still be a bit sore, but he more than deserves to have his ego put down once in a while," Nath assured her, speaking quietly in case she had a headache, which given her condition he would well imagine to be true. "You kidding me? You've put Alex in his place, appreciated the library - an act not to be underestimated - and Iris has declared you funny. You've been no trouble. Things have been pretty quiet lately, so you just gave us all something to do; and provided an excuse for me to not go on hunts."

Moving slowly so that she was free to pull back, he went to touch her forehead, feeling for a fever. "Your temperature's gone down," he noted softly, pulling his hand back, trying his best to be clinical rather than feel so... intimate. "I think you made yourself sick. Have you been eating and sleeping right lately?" He asked, more than able to guess the cause of the problem. Her appearance was far from orderly, and she looked like hell, but at the same time she just looked so right. He couldn't quite place his finger on it, he just found her very calming to be around, and even looking like she'd been dragged through a hedge backwards and cried all the way, she still looked beautiful.

Realising he'd perhaps been looking at her a little bit too long, he cleared his throat in as manly a fashion as possible and stood, smoothing down his clothes just to give himself something to do. "If you think you're up to it, our valiant and noble leader would like to talk to you. She's in her study I believe. I'll show you the way, don't worry, and she knows you haven't been well."

Eliza would have been lying if she said there wasn't a spark when Nath had touched her, even if it were to check for a fever. She wondered if she were making things up, if he was feeling anything similar to what she was feeling. Boy was he making it hard to keep her distance. If anything, this man was going to destroy her, and she wasn't sure if there was anything she could or wanted to do about it. Smiling faintly, without being able to help it she nodded, "Yeah, I don't quite feel like I'm on fire anymore," She said and laughed slightly at her own stupid joke.

When Nath mentioned the head of the institute she almost frowned. How had she not met her yet? How embarrassing for her to come to live here without meeting her first. She went to follow Nath as he got up but realized how thinly she'd been dressed. Her cheeks flaming, Elizabeth snatched up the blankets and held them up under her chin. "U-uhm I'll be out in a minute..." She said and buried her face into her hands which still held fistfuls of fabric.

Finally after he left she pulled herself out of bed and went over to her suitcase. She hadn't gotten all the way through her unpacking and so she dug through her piles of clothes and pulled out a pink v-neck t-shirt and a tight pair of jean. They were her favorite jeans, her friends she'd had back in Idris had called them her "ass jeans" on account that they made her butt look so good. Smiling at the memory, and running a brush quickly through her hair, Eliza stepped out into the hall. "Could you show me how to get there?" She asked Nath who'd been waiting quietly for her.
