Realistic or Modern The Monarchy (1x1's)

Leon continued to chase her “I’m serious, close your eyes.” He just wanted to look at her moment.

"All right, I'll fall for the bait." She said as she stopped running and stood still, with her eyes closed like he asked. Her long white hair fell behind her back and some strands blew in the light breeze. Standing there waiting, she wondered what Leon would do.

Leon leaned in and gently kissed her “I got it,” he said blushing slightly. “I’m happy we got to spend this time together.”

The kiss was unexpected but very much welcome. "If you kiss me the get something out of my eye, I'll always have something there." Irina joked as a blush appeared on her face as well. "All the same with me. And I'm very glad that you were the one to steal my first kiss." She admitted while tucking a strand of her white hair behind her ear coyly.

Arminda Lavigne
Maid

The maids were bustling, like always. Arminda passed through the crowd of maids who kept moving, place to place, holding a dress from princess Aline she looked for a peaceful place where she could sew the dress, although princess Aline had told her not to bother and it was alright, it was a beautiful dress and she couldn't let it go to waste. But recently princess Aline had not been the same, as much as she loved to go outside her visits outside were much more shorter and less frequent and the tutors she hated she began attending many of her lessons as if she changed.

Arminda bit her lip. Perhaps the death of her father, the pregnancy of Clarissa destroyed the little girl. But in all honesty Arminda couldn't care if the girl's head dropped, and the child in her stomach died as well. She never knew Clarissa well, but all she knew was... she destroyed a family. What if the child she carried was a female? Then what would it do. Arminda sighed as throughts swam in her mind. They were all useless, but she wanted to bring a smile back to her princess.

Recently nothing had brought an genuine smile from the child. The shock of her father, the King and Clarissa, the child. Her brother prince Leon, princess Irina, princess Willow, and prince Jackson. Deep inside Arminda knew, that once the child was born from Clarissa's womb that Aline would no longer be a shadow but would be just a whisper. Just a princess waiting to be sold off, for another marriage. If only she could bring the small child away from the royal circle, and give her freedom she sought.

As her thoughts grew deeper, Arminda clearly beagn walking mindlessly as she hit something strong, and quickly began falling backwards which caused her to be startled.

For a Monday, the castle was unusually bustling and active, the halls filled to the brim with snickering courtiers and maids in a hurry. What all the commotion was about, Kol didn’t know, but the prying eyes of the nobles as he walked by was enough to ensure his blue eyes were pinned to the floor.

How knightly of him.

Despite his status as the next Captain of the Guard ranking him above many of the lower level lords and ladies that dwelled there, they sure as hell made sure he didn’t feel like it. Some were kinder than others, but most simply looked at him with a mixture of vague disinterest and unbridled superiority. He couldn’t stand it.

Distracted by his thoughts as he turned the corner into the next hall, something slammed into Kolton’s chest, startling him to attention. As a mass of brown hair and bundles of fabric flew away from him, Kol threw out a hand, grabbing onto the girl’s shoulder to keep her from falling.

As he set her upright and steady, Kolton realized that the brunette mass had indeed been Arminda the whole time, little princess Aline’s keeper.

“Arminda,” he greeted her with an ashamed grin as he handed her back the sewing equipment that had fallen in the commotion. “I’m sorry, I should look where I’m going and stop running about the castle like a hulking brute,” he continued by way of an apology, laughing.

Then, his embarrassment fading, he laughed again, running a hand through his night-black hair.

“If I were you, though,” he began, shooting her a broad lopsided grin, “I’d work on my tackling skills, I barely budged.”

Okay, so maybe he did have the advantage of being a veritable giant at 6’4”, as well as being heavily muscled and lean from years of guard work. But still!! Maybe he’d tell her about the self defense classes he’d been teaching to the girl’s in town for the last few weeks before dinner.

“Sorry again, really, I feel like a proper ass.”

Arminda visibly seemed surprised that someone was able to catch her before she fell, and her eyes widened slightly. As she was set upright she looked up to see a giant man, Kolton. She sucked in a breath for a moment to the relief she didn't fall. When her name was called she simply dipped her head, "Sir Kolton." she responded, her cheeks were slightly flushed from the shame she felt when she bumped into him. She grabbed the sewing equipment from Kolton's hands, and of course her hands appeared smaller than his. At his apology Arminda shook her head.

"I apologize as well, I was thinking about some things... I didn't see where I was going." she had a small faint smile of her face, "I guess we both didn't look." she chuckled lightly.

When he mentioned tackling skills Arminda lifted an eyebrow up, "Do you want me to tackle you?" she teased but she only seemed to have a good-natured glint in her eyes. "Though. It would've been more fun if you were the one to fall instead of me."

Arminda herself wasn't short. She knew she wasn't short. She was 5'8 at the most, but the man in front of her had at least a whooping 6 foot, no wonder he wouldn't budge. Though she would've enjoyed pushing him into the floor more than he did to her.

"Don't be. It happens." she reassured him, "Well, what were you doing in this part of the castle?" she asked.

After four years in the castle, Kolton still wasn’t quite used to being addressed as ‘Sir Kolton’. The title felt too formal to him, like something he was given but hadn’t quite earned. It rubbed him the wrong way, made him feel guilty for some reason.

“Arminda, please—just call me Kolton,” he said, grinning at the pretty brunette girl broadly. “Or Kol, if we’re to be friends. No need for fancy titles.”

They began to walk again, this time together as they spoke. They entered a hallway hung with iron chandeliers, glittering candles placed in their designated holders. Outside the windows lining the wall, night had fallen; lanterns kindled brightly and the moon a shining crescent in the sky.

It was almost dinner time, and the smell of whatever chef was whipping up for tonight’s service was permeating the space, the scent of various spices and baked bread like a smack in the face that reminded him just how hungry he really was.

To be fair, Kolton was always hungry.

At last, they stopped before a set of red-and-gold glass doors so thick that Kol couldn’t see through them. He jerked his chin at the two guards standing on either side of the doors, and they stomped their spears in greeting, grinning. Bruno and Henry were always stationed here, at the library, as the Captain didn’t particularly trust them not to slack off and get up to trouble elsewhere.

“I wanted to sit in the library for a bit,” he told Arminda in response to her question as the guards pulled open the doors. “Have some time to myself before dinner and my lessons in town after that.”

A gold plated metal and glass chandelier shaped like a grapevine occupied most of the ceiling, spitting seeds of diamond fire onto the windows along the far side of the room. Lit braziers lined the room, the towering bookshelves casting long shadows on the wall. In the front of the space, a reading area with sofas and a roaring fireplace was unoccupied.

“I come here a lot,” Kol admitted, surveying the space. He did, the absence of nobles was refreshing. “And no, I don’t want you to tackle me,” he continued, laughing.

“I teach a class in town,” Kol started again, meeting her eyes, the grin slipping from his face. “Women, girls from all over the city come after dinner service and I teach self defense.”

It was an offer, one he was nervous making. Women learning to defend themselves was all but unheard of, as unfortunate as it was, and she might scoff at him for even entertaining such an idea.

“You could come, if you want.”

“Arminda, please—just call me Kolton,” he said, grinning at the pretty brunette girl broadly. “Or Kol, if we’re to be friends. No need for fancy titles.”

Arminda nodded once, "Alright, Kolton." she replied. Being having added another title to a name meant you respected that certain individual however it seem Kolton seemed to not enjoy the title all too much.

Somehow, speaking to Kolton felt natural, stress didn't fill her like when she was talking to the other guards. Worried of what she might say of slipping up a few mistakes. But the man seemed to be a more carefree individual, just like the princess she served.

As they continued walking Arminda couldn't help but notice the beautiful decor of the castle. Even if she worked here for 50 more years she was so sure she could never stop being amazed at how beautiful the castle could be.

Soon enough Arminda could smell a luxrious amount of spices and nostaliga, some smells reminded her of different recipes she made on her own. Some were new but as she walked it reminded her how she was hungry. Maybe for chocolate. But she decided not to say.

She stole a glance to Kolton wondering if he were hungry but she decided to remain silent.

Afterward, they soon arrived at a set of gold and red glass doors, Arminda had passed the halls before looking at these doors but never has she actually went inside. In an instant Kolton jerked his head to the two guards, and they quickly stomped their spears, grinning like all boys do. She merely dipped her head in respect and gratefulness.

“I wanted to sit in the library for a bit,” he told Arminda in response to her question as the guards pulled open the doors. “Have some time to myself before dinner and my lessons in town after that.”

Arminda looked at him with a bit of... surprise. But her eyes were wide when she entered the library. She had a made a quiet gasp. "I did not know that. I do not come here often as princess Aline hates studying." her eyes softened as she talked about the princess. There were so many books, books she hadn't even thought about. Were most likely all here.

“I come here a lot,” Kol admitted, surveying the space. He did, the absence of nobles was refreshing. “And no, I don’t want you to tackle me,” he continued, laughing.

"It does seem like you do," she replied quietly, still looking at the books and how much there were, "Oh. What a shame." she murmured trying to seem disappointed but quickly just chuckled.

Out of the blue, suddenly Kolton said.

“I teach a class in town,” Kol started again, meeting her eyes, the grin slipping from his face. “Women, girls from all over the city come after dinner service and I teach self defense.”

Arminda's blue-grey met his eyes. She didn't seem all too surprised. "That is useful. Women these day need to know, don't they." she whispered looking at the books again. She knew how much if she knew self defense, or maybe a bit of training she could've saved her father in the fire. But she was too weak.

“You could come, if you want.”

Arminda quickly looked at him in the eyes, surprised however another emotion was mixed into it and was hard to tell her mostly guarded face. "When does it start?" she asked.

Kolton had been expecting her to laugh at him. To look him in the eyes and with her pretty, delicate hands, rip out his core and stomp on it all whilst smiling at him. That was the response he’d grown to expect from the denizens of the castle.

Instead, however, Arminda's blue-grey met his eyes. She didn't seem all too surprised. "That is useful. Women these day need to know, don't they." she whispered looking at the books again, as if in shock that so much of human knowledge was here, in the castle, at her disposal.

Kol let out a long breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding, dropping his gaze to the floor as relief flooded his body.

Arminda quickly looked at him in the eyes, surprised however another emotion was mixed into it and was hard to tell her mostly guarded face. "When does it start?" she asked.

Kol had to swallow the lump that had formed at the base of his throat before replying, tucking his hands into the folds of the cloak his guard uniform required him to wear. The weight of that blue-grey gaze on him felt stripping, somehow, like she could see every thought and emotion that was running through his head.

“Tonight, after dinner,” he began cautiously, trailing a tan finger along the spines of the books closest to him, before picking one up and flipping through the pages.

Drawings filled the worn pages, depictions of fairies and elves and trolls and all manners of beasts. Each sketch had information scrawled below, like some sort of fairytale encyclopedia. Books on anything and everything could be found here—politics, history, romance, religion.

The firelight cast half of his face in shadow as he placed the book back in its resting place and moved to sit in one of the large armchairs by the fire, before pulling a box out of the bag he’d brought with him.

With a cheeky grin, he opened the box with a flourish, presenting the assorted pastries he’d sweet talked Chef into giving him earlier.

He was making another offer, one he wasn’t sure she’d get the meaning of.

“Well?”

Please come.

Kolton swallowed a lump in his throat, and Arminda had a confused look for a second before realizing she may have had a serious expression. She didn't mean to look serious, she just naturally guarded her emotions. Maybe it became a bit of a habit. Though she didn't want to make Kolton feel uncomfortable though.

“Tonight, after dinner,”

Arminda ran her thoughts after what she may have had to do after dinner, she would have to saw this. But princess Aline did mention she could take a break. Did she know something like this was going to happen? Arminda doubted it, Aline simply gave people lots of time to relax, for vacations or breaks, after dinner she had no plans. Simply to go back to her chambers and get ready for the next day.

She looked at Kolton who was now sitting in one of the armchairs by the fire. With a box she didn't realize was there, he opened it and there was a bountiful of pastries. It took her best not to laugh at the man in front of her who was grinning like a child who got a present for his birthday. But a small smile cracked through her neutral face.

“Well?”

The brunette looked surprised as she didn't seem to catch that he was asking her. She thought for a moment. She looked at the clothing. She closed her eyes looking at him in the eye once more.

"I can go," she responded, "Though... I don't know where we are headed." she added, "but I'll be there." she told Kolton with a slight smile, before it began fading.

How strange, Arminda knew that she wouldn't talk to many people unless they talked to her first but Kolton perhaps was the first, or the second man she was able to truly enjoy talking.

Maybe it was a good thing that she bumped into him, and was the one to fall instead of him. Though it would've been a much more exciting sight to see a guard fall in front of a maid. The thought itself made Arminda chuckle a bit. Her face seemed a bit more relaxed, however her eyes were wary around the fire and she made sure she stood away by quite a few feet.
