reckless, confrontational and brooding, aidan has the bad boy archetype down to a t. he makes decisions on impulse without stopping to consider the consequences, and he doesn't seem to care what other people have to say about his actions. he's also extremely forthright with his opinions, to the point of being harsh; if something's pissing him off, he's sure to let you know about it - something which many find intimidating. he's an extreme thrill-seeker, and constantly finds himself in trouble of some kind. but while he's clearly problematic, aidan has a sort of devilish charm about him, and can be exceptionally charismatic when he wants to be. while he puts up a convincing front of being indifferent and cold, it's really a facade to hide the fact that he's highly emotional. in reality, aidan feels all of his emotions very deeply, but tends to feel as if he needs to internalise everything. because he doesn't allow himself a proper emotional outlet, when some of his feelings inevitably come to the surface it's often in a sudden and destructive manner, which would explain the frequent fights he gets into. furthermore, he often runs from his responsibilities, a tendency which is not caused by laziness (as he's actually very diligent about seeing projects through once he's put his mind to them), but rather a need he feels to flout the expectations placed upon him by others in order to prove he's the one in control of his own life.​

The result of a teenage pregnancy, the start to Aidan's life was anything but smooth-sailing. His biological father wanted nothing to do with him and his mother was kicked out of the house by her conservative parents at the age of eighteen, so for the first ten years of his life it was him and his mother against the rest of the world. It was far from easy, with his mother having to work two jobs on top of taking care of him just to get by, but they managed somehow, and developed a very close bond in the process. Aidan developed a deep admiration for his mother and the sacrifices she was willing to make for him, and the two of them were inseparable. At least that's how it was until his mother got married to Joseph Adler, a well-off business owner from Vermont. They moved into a spacious, three-story house in the peaceful countryside of Hawkins and within a year his mother had given birth to two healthy twin boys. At least at first glance, this marriage seemed to be the ideal situation for both Aidan and his mother; they would never have to worry about money troubles ever again and Aidan would finally have a father figure in his life. Within a few months, however, it became clear that his new step-father wanted nothing to do with Aidan. To him, Aidan was an outlier in his life - a shameful reminder of his wife's past mistakes - and he stood in the way of the image he wanted of an idyllic, upper-class family. He showed clear favouritism towards his own sons, and would increasingly find excuses to exclude him from any social functions. He would buy far less gifts for Aidan than he would for the twins, and at times would even make him carry out tedious, demeaning chores such as scrubbing the floors. Aidan went along with it at first, but as he grew into his teenage years and began to see the injustice of his treatment he started to stand up for himself, resulting in frequent intense arguments with his step-father. As one can imagine, the situation also put a big strain on his relationship with his mother, as he felt betrayed by her allowing him to be treated in such a demeaning way. Wanting to avoid his restrictive home life, Aidan began to spend more and more time out on the streets after school, and he quickly fell in with the wrong crowd. He began a streak of rebellious behaviour, defacing property, openly disrespecting teachers, and starting fights on school grounds, resulting in severe drop in his grades and several suspensions which only gave him more free time to develop unhealthy habits. In a town where nothing interesting ever happens, word of Aidan's outrageous behaviour spread quickly, and he soon became rather infamous amongst the population of Hawkins. With his reputation as a wayward teenager set in stone, there seemed no end in sight to Aidan's rebellious teenage phase... until sudden tragedy hit. Joseph suffered a heart attack on the way home from work one day, and though he was quickly rushed to the hospital he passed away soon afterwards. Joseph was still fairly young and in otherwise perfect health, so this came as a total shock to the entire family. Now with a grieving mother and two young brothers suddenly left without a father, Aidan finds himself in a position he never would have expected; but whether the death of his step-father will act as a catalyst to his self-destructive behaviour or if he'll finally man up and fill the place that Joseph left behind is yet to be seen...​

maura foley-adler (36); aidan has very conflicting feelings towards his mother. he's still extremely hurt by the way she let his step-father treat him, but at the end of the day she's still his mother, and he loves her dearly. deep down, he feels that in some twisted way she probably thought staying with joseph to provide them with financial stability was in his best interest.​

joseph adler (45, deceased); aidan has nothing but feelings of hatred towards his step-father, even in his death. if anything, he only begrudges him even more now that he can see how much his passing is affecting his family. he only ever refers to him by his first name, refusing to acknowledge him as any type of father figure.​

the tower represents sudden and destructive change. when a sudden, cataclysmic change occurs, such as what the tower suggests, it is an anomaly of sorts. such a drastic upheaval means the universe is trying to wake a person from a zombie-like state. this wake-up call comes in the form of an event that blind-sides the individual and shakes them out of the fog they've been living in.​

She would be one of the people to try and talk peace into a conversation, but it’s hard to create peace with others when you don’t have peace with yourself. She’s deadly loyal to those who earn her trust, however far and few between they may be. She has an amazing intuition, and whenever she follows her gut feeling she rarely ends up in the wrong. She’s a great listener, and empathizes easily with those who open up to her, which is ironic. When she pauses to think about a problem, using her feelings to guide her, she often makes some of the smartest and surprising decisions you can think of.

[div class=tag]Power[/div] Having such a connection with the High Priestess card, Ari’s intuition is one of the strongest and most accurate out there. She can sort of ‘sense’ when someone is keeping secret some mystery, or emotion, without any accuracy of what it is, only whether it’s good or bad, and who it might be connected too. This sense is made stronger if she touches someone, which means she can tell if they’re panicking, hating, loving. She can’t tell what about, but she can tell the emotion or intent. She can help them calm down, giving them a slight calming feeling. She HAS to be touching you for this to work, and if she tries to hard and you’re not experiencing a extremely strong emotion, she’ll force the sort of emotion that you have when you get high. Basically super relaxed, and unaware of what’s even going on.

[div class=tag]strengths[/div] Meditation helps keep her powers ‘in check’, as in check as they can stay. I’ll explain that in her weaknesses. BUT meditation makes her distractions lessen, the feelings she gets more controlled and less panicky, and when she feels people’s spiritual balance it’s less or a rush of emotions and more like a trickle. Her power does have something to do with her empathy, and it also has something to do with normal people sometimes seem so willing to share. Even Secrets, since she’s so good at keeping them.

[div class=tag]weaknesses[/div] Ari’s power has some nice upsides, but the downsides can become physical. If she doesn't meditate, or looses sleep, her powers become physical, and these emotions she senses come in all at once. Her sense of intuition regarding which emotions are hers and which are other people’s gets jumbled up, and she gets massive headaches. If someone is projecting a strong emotion (hate, love, fear) she can feel that emotion coming from that person without touching them, and her headache’s will turn sharp and she could even black out. Of course, this happens after around almost a full 48 hours without sleep or meditation.

[div class=tag]likes[/div] The woods, the ocean at night, staying up late, sweet chocolate, apple cider, tea, oatmeal for some reason, and Fun. the band. She likes sailing and the ocean specifically, as well as swimming. She’s had a car and several pet fish for most of her life, which she LOVED, until the cat got hit by a car, and her step-father broke her fish tank.

[div class=tag]dislikes[/div] Spicy foods, thunderstorms, fighting or confrontations. Ari doesn't really like rap music either, but that’s kinda meh. She doesn’t like things being thrown at her, or adults trying to fix all her problems. She also doesn’t like Nicolas Sparks books. Thinks they’re all the same.

[div class=tag]habits[/div] When she gets bored, Ari with doodle stars and moons on the cuffs of her jeans and the edges of her shoes. Pacing when she’s nervous, biting her nails when she’s scared.

[div class=tag]history[/div] Ari has been in Vermont her whole life. The only place she’s ever traveled is the ocean, and the only home she’s ever lived in is a apartment big enough for her, her mom, and whatever boyfriend her mom has at the time. Ari was born of an affair from a marriage, the longest lasting man Ari’s mother has ever had in her life. They were relatively happy together, and would’ve been happier if Ari’s mom and cut back on the drinking and gone to some couples counseling. He only really stayed after Ari was born because he thought his wife would get better, and because he wanted to raise Ari. But, he didn’t get to. They ended up getting a divorce after her mom had another affair. So, age six, Ari was in the middle of a court battle, one with a racist judge who decided Ari’s black father wasn’t capable of raising her, which was a lie, and a horrible outcome.

Growing up, Ari’s mom would leave her home alone for hours at a time, always coming home with some new guy, and them being scared off by the fact that this woman had a kid. Her mom eventually learned not to bring her little boyfriends into the house.

The only person in her life besides a few friends at school was her grandpa. He’d come up from his condo on the coast, bring her on a weekend or week long trip to his sail boat, and they’d go sailing, because they could. Ari always loved it, and learned all about it. It was a nice distraction, you know?

Eventually, her mom was able to bring one boyfriend home. One who didn’t freak out that there was a kid.This guy was big. He’d definitely done sports, cause he was clearly strong too. At first Ari thought it could be cool to have a father like figure in her life. She was wrong. He would yell at her and her mom, and when he wasn’t throwing glass and bottles at her he was screaming through her bedroom door useless it all was. This is where Ari’s hate for confrontation comes from. She learned quick, just keep your mouth shut, let him talk, and he’ll move on.

Age eighteen. About to leave for college. Thank God. Except for the fact that now she’s had a Dream, a premonition of something that’s about to happen, and it scared her. So, of course she’s going to look for the address. Burning the paper as soon as it was memorized, but not the card, she decided “hey, what the hell. Let’s do this.”

Personality: Miles is a very relaxed human being. His main focus in his mind is how to put the most minimal amount of effort into something and for it to work. His circle of friends range from high school drop outs who smoke pot all day to the more quiet people who make great conversation if you have the patience for them. Miles himself though only smoked a couple times, though. However, that doesn't mean Miles isn't friendly to other people. To the casual observer they would paint his image in their head as a very relaxed person, both body and mind together. But, if you carefully observe his eye's you'll find yourself staring into a multitude of gears and wires moving all about calculating each and every action he takes with extreme precision. The only shielding to his calculative nature is his laziness and large comfy clothing he always wears.

Family: None

History: At birth Miles was placed into an orphanage with little to no information on who were his parents. To Miles his parents simple never existed, viewing the orphanages workers as little more than friends who took care of him. Theoretically being born in Marysville Ohio (that's where they found him) left little fondness for the town and when he was 18, right after he had graduated high school he left his hometown for greener pastures. Except, greener pastures meant spending more money; money that he didn't have. Soon after his 19th birthday he settled in Hawkin's Vermont and started working at a local supermarket chain. Being that his only education was high school and this is a small town there wasn't much in terms of a job, but this was all he could afford. Today you'll probably find him in his apartment sleeping until work time, or on the rare occasion he'll be at a friends house shootin' the breeze.
