I mainly get that from the Splatoon 1 news time. Callie always is super energetic and likes to crack a joke, then Marie adds her own humor by teasing Callie about it, or shutting Callie's joke down entirely.
I could see Marie being apprehensive towards Callie, thinking back to some dialogue, but I will never get the image of seeing Callie doing whatever the heck she wants out of my head.
Idk, might just be me.

But that’s my point- callie DID do whatever the heck she wanted, and hc she wanted to go off and get with Octavio.

Point being, I always visualize her as a chaotic rebel rather than a caretaker.
Though looking back, I can see areas where the personalities still fit.
I do like the twist you added to give another perspective, however.

I dunno, i guess i just imagined her settling down a lot more when she had kids, and especially when they were going through some stuff.
She just seemed to sweet to me to not be a bit of a motherly figure.
