The Last 30 Days [Inactive]

Blake turned his head and smiled at Isabelle, mirroring the joy he could see on her face. "If you open the window you can smell it," he said, referring to the salt water. Isabelle had been asleep for close to half an hour and they were very close to the beach. Luckily it wasn't quite beach time so they would be the only ones there, save a few brave surfers.

"You can smell it, really?" Isabelle wrinkled her nose. What exactly did the ocean smell like? She opened the window some and let the air seep into the truck. After a few deep inhales, she discovered she really loved the smell of the ocean. She laughed at the discovery and kept the window open.

"I didn't know that at all." She confessed. "I thought you were just messing with me or something. It's fantastic!"

She turned her head towards the open window and breathed in the ocean air. Isabelle stuck her hand out the window and let it ride the air, her hand curved, rising up and down outside.

Blake grinned while he watched the girl. She looked like an excited child at their first trip to Disneyworld. Blake also rolled down his window a bit, closing his eyes for a split second while he marvelled at the scent of the salt water. It smelled pretty great.

Five minutes later they arrived at the beach. It was fairly big but there was no parking lot so Blake backed the truck up right onto the sand. Just like he had anticipated there were no people there, all was quiet except for the swoosh of the waves.

Isabelle didn't wait for Blake to get out of the car, she jumped down from the high seat and ran towards the beach. As soon as her shoes hit the sand, she kicked them off and squished her toes into the sand. She didn't have a swimsuit on, but if she did, she would've run straight into the ocean.

"Blake! Come here, let's take a picture." She yelled.

She pulled the sunglasses from her face and clipped them to her shirt. It was incredible, really, nothing like she'd imagined.

Blake stepped down from the truck and took in the view. The large expanse of sand was a creamy beige and there was occasionally a glint in the distance when the sun's rays hit a piece of sea glass. The ocean was extremely blue and went on for what looked like forever. There were small waves lapping close to the sand and further out there were even bigger ones.

Blake retrieved a camera from the truck and walked towards Isabelle with a smile on his face. He was so glad that he could share this moment with her. He passed the camera to her and stood beside her for the picture.

Isabelle took the camera from Blake and wrapped her arm around his shoulder to pull him in close. With the camera aimed at them, she started to count down. "Okay, 3...2...1!" Before she pressed down on the camera's button, she pressed her lips to Blake's cheek.

She quickly turned the camera around to view the picture, giggling. Blake had only just responded so his face was caught in a smile. Isabelle couldn't have been happier.

Blake would have smiled for the picture anyway although the smile portrayed in the picture was genuine and it made the whole picture look less poised. Blake wrapped his arm around Isabelle's shoulders and pulled her against him, planting a kiss on the top of her head. "The water's cold, but wanna swim?" he asked into her hair.

"Yes." Isabelle blurted, she was much more excited now that her head didn't hurt. "I've gotta change though, I'm not wearing my swimsuit."

She went back to the car and opened up her bag. Isabelle had brought her favorite green plaid patterned bikini, she had been waiting for the moment she'd finally get to wear it, having bought it back in the winter. A sale is a sale, she thought, and it was worth it. She could change in the car, glancing around there didn't seem to be any room to change in, after all it was one of many beach shores.

"Don't peak!" She yelled, and hopped in the truck.

"I'll try not to," he said, glancing down at his own swim trunks which he had changed into before leaving. He figured they'd be swimming as soon as they got there and he didn't want to need to change.

While waiting he paced up and down the beach, walking ten feet there and ten feet back. The sound of the water was relaxing and he could already imagine how calm he'd feel going to sleep.

Isabelle left everything she didn't need in Blake's truck, and made her way to the sandy shores once more. She'd put her hair into a messy bun, a different look than her usual braid, but she kept the sunglasses on her face. It was bright, but it was also gorgeous, she thought. The waves lapped up against the shore. It was a perfect day, and it was only the two of them on the beach.

She locked her hands behind her back and made her way to Blake, in nothing more than her white flip flops and her bikini. The way the sun reflected against her pale skin made her impossibly bright.

"I cant' believe no one else is here." She exclaimed. "How lucky are we?"

Blake glanced around and shrugged. He thought about telling her that it was only late April and so it was normal that no body was here but he was scared she'd start to get mad at him for correcting her. It had happened before, friends telling him that just because he's so smart doesn't mean he needs to correct their every mistake.

"Very lucky," he agreed, pulling his shirt off from the back of the collar and tossing it towards the truck. It hit the hood and fell off into the sand but he didn't go to retrieve it. "Hopefully it'll be like this the whole weekend," he said, a flirting tone in his voice.

"Maybe it will be. Who knows." She responded, her eyes darted off towards the sea. Her face was red, and she was back to her usual self.

Even though it was cold, Isabelle took the last few steps towards the water and slowly made her way into the water until it was up to her knees. It was cold, but not unbearable. With the sun on her back, it felt rather nice. She turned around and smiled at Blake, glasses still on her face, and waved him over.

"Come on, it's not that bad." She assured him.

"You're a liar," he said well before his feet even touched the water. As soon as they did he nodded and looked at her as though backing up his previous statement. He slowly inched himself in but stopped mid calf. "It's cold," he whimpered, staring down at his feet. If he managed to get a few feet deeper he could just jump in.

"It got you in the water." Isabelle smirked. She waded out until the water came up to her waist, she flinched at the waves which lapped up against her bare stomach. After counting in her head, she grabbed hold of her sunglasses and breathed in loudly before dunking herself completely under the water.

After a few seconds beneath the waves, Isabelle shot back up and whipped the few wet strands of hair which clung to her face out of the way. She shivered and let out a high pitched groan.

"I lied, it's cold!" She laughed, and walked out a little further. "But I swear, over here, it's great."

At her words Blake stopped walking, arms curled against his bare chest. He was scared to go any further but by now he was up to his thighs and he took a few deep breaths before diving out, staying under water and swimming past Isabelle. It was cold and he could feel the goosebumps rising on his skin, he could hear his heartbeat in his ears but he kept swimming. When he finally resurfaced he was standing shoulder deep and shaking like a chihuahua.

"Come on, it's not that bad," he said in a mock imitation, sticking out his tongue.

"I don't want to lose my glasses." Isabelle whined a little, they were costly, and she needed them. It wasn't a smart move to bring them into the water, but she had been dying to swim from the moment Blake had started the car earlier that morning. "I can't go out much farther then, you're taller!"

Where Blake was up to his shoulders, Isabelle might have been submerged. She stuck out her tongue at him and lifted her feet from the sandy bottom. Isabelle laid back in the water and let herself float with the waves, arms at her sides.

Please don't dunk me under. She thought.

Blake swam back towards her and stood next to her, smiling down. He couldn't see her eyes so whether she could see the smile or not was a mystery. He stood there with his hands just touching the water and closed his eyes, feeling calmer by the second. He could feel the waves pushing against his back and it reminded him of the back massage he recieved a few days ago. "Hey, I love you," he said, smiling again.

Isabelle sunk back down and touched down to the ground. Blake stood before her, waves blocked by his body. She pushed aside his sopping wet hair to see his eyes were closed, but he was smiling wide.

Just a few more seconds, let's just stay like this.

She leaned up to kiss him. As she pulled away she pressed her hands to either side of his face and stared at his closed eyes. Realizing she was wearing the dark glasses, she took a hand and pulled them onto her head. Blinding light invaded her eyes, and she winced, but as they adjusted she resumed her loving gaze towards him. "I know. I love you, too, and I'm really happy you're here with me."

Blake felt his hair lift from his forehead and he raised his eyebrows, asking the silent question of what she was doing. He kissed her back when she kissed him and even leaned forward when she pulled away. He didn't want the kiss to end. He opened his eyes as she spoke and his smile dropped to a smaller softer one. "I'm really happy too," he said, grabbing her glasses and twirling them in his fingers. He pulled Isabelle against him in a hug and then without warning, fell in the water, pulling her with him. He made sure to keep his arm extended to keep her glasses from touching the water.

She opened her mouth to speak when she was suddenly pulled into the water. The salt from the ocean burned her eyes momentarily before it filled her nose and mouth with an unpleasant taste. Isabelle rose to the surface and coughed up the water she had swallowed.

"Blake!" She exclaimed. It was hard not to laugh anyways. Her glasses were safe above the water and she took them from his extended hand. "You're such a dork." Isabelle giggled, and put the glasses back on her face. She splashed water in his direction and headed back towards shore so he couldn't pull her in again.

"I thought I was refined!" he replied, throwing his hands up in the air. He waddled forward too, and once he was up to his knees if was even harder to walk, his swim shorts sticking to his legs. They made sloshing pants and every few seconds he'd stop, annoyed with the sound. Now that he was out of the water he felt even colder and he looked at Isabelle, imagining how cold she must have been so he walked the last few steps and hugged her close.

"You're that, too." Isabelle tilted her head from side to side in debate. He was dorky, refined, and a nerd all at the same time, and many other things. "Handsome, too!" She smiled, and he came close and hugged her.

Isabelle let her face drop, thinking this was one of the last things she'd know. At least she'd gotten that much closer to finishing her bucket list, she thought. As it stood, the list was getting shorter, and she'd have more things to cross off before the next morning.

  1. See Jaws
  2. See Titanic
  3. Watch the LOTR movies
  4. Sleep under the stars
  5. Go to the ocean, and watch the sun rise
  6. Send a message in a bottle
  7. Learn to dance
  8. Learn to play the piano
  9. Drive a car
  10. Participate in a marathon, or do a color run
  11. Be in love
  12. Kiss in the rain
  13. Dance in the rain
  14. Volunteer my time somewhere
  15. Feed birds with Mrs. Harrison
  16. Bake something for someone
  17. Go bowling

Isabelle figured it would be okay to cross off sleeping under the stars, because they were going to later. Then, she would be able to get up in the morning and watch the sun. She changed reading the books for Lord of the Rings to just watching the movies. There wasn't enough time.

It was then it occurred to her that she hadn't shown Blake the full list. She couldn't believe she hadn't even bothered to show him the list yet! Later, she told herself. Later would be fine. She still had two weeks left.

Blake let go, stepping back. He stepped into the water and it sent a shiver up his spine, making him jump back out beside Isabelle. He hoped that tomorrow it would be warmer so they could have a more lengthy swim. If not, they could walk up and down the beach looking for shells, or even just cuddle on the beach's sand.

"Did you by any chance bring a book?" he asked, already trying to remember what they had packed. If she had packed one they could lay together on the beach and read.

"I don't think so." Isabelle thought it over. Had she packed a book, she would've remembered.

She still wanted to walk around the beach, despite the nipping cold air. It was one of the things she'd wanted to do since she found out she might die. The waves were more beautiful and the ocean more blue than she'd imagined.

"I wanna walk around a little." She declared.

"Then we shall walk," he said, grabbing her hand and starting down the longest strip of sand. His bare feet sunk into the sand and scratched at the sole of his foot but he didn't mind. The sun hadn't been hot enough to warm the sand either so it didn't burn. His shorts were still wet, dripping down his legs and when you looked back you could see exactly where he had stepped.

"We have a whole weekend out here," he said, half amazed at how they had just dropped everything and left, not telling anyone. Blake had gone to college the day before, he couldn't just skip every class, but so far he had been skipping most of his classes.
