The Last 30 Days [Inactive]

At his touch she closed her eyes and focused in how his hands felt. He was being gentle so as not to hurt her, and she basked in the small moment.

"Tough, not invincible, but I'm trying." She whispered so only Blake could hear. Her eyes were sad, and her lips turned into a pout. "I don't want you to go."

Blake felt awkward, knowing that Judith was there watching them, but he tried to forget her presence. "Then I won't go," he whispered back, settling down on the floor. "I'll stay until you tell me to leave."

It took no time at all for Isabelle to fall asleep, even though she'd asked Blake to stay. Now, of course, he could go home. Isabelle wouldn't be mad to discover he was gone, she'd fallen asleep on him after all.

Judith was in the kitchen prepping for dinner, and she asked, "Blake, are you staying for dinner then?"

He could leave, really, if he needed to.

Blake had moved from his spot on the floor and now he leaned against the wall in the kitchen doorway. He felt like he was intruding, and now that Isabelle was asleep he figured he could leave.

"Well, I don't want to be bother or anything. Isabelle's in good hands so I can just get out of your hair now."

"Don't every count yourself out, dearie." Judith yelled from the kitchen, "She's been much happier lately, and I'm going to have to assume you're the reason why."

Isabelle mumbled in her sleep before she rolled onto her side. Although her hair was a mess, and she slightly snored in her slumber, there was a part of her that was still beautiful in some way.

Blake smiled and looked back at Isabelle, nodding. "She deserves to be happy, at least for a little while," he said, a hint of sadness seeping into his words.

"I guess I can stay for dinner," he decided, walking further into the kitchen. "Is there anything I can do to help you?"

"Everyone does, deserve some bit of happiness that is." Judith sad, her voice also saddened. "No, you can sit right down and relax. No guest of mine will have to cook. I do hope you like pork. Baked potatoes, too."

The clamor of pots and pans being moved and placed came forth from the kitchen. There was a pause, and Judith came forth, she leaned against the stairs and looked at Blake.

"Blake, it was?" She asked, nodding as she spoke, "I know she can be a handful. She tries so hard to please others, I think she would've focused more on myself if I didn't make her go out every once in a while."

Judith came off of the railing and turned to go back to the kitchen. "Dinner will be ready in half an hour, feel free to turn on the tv, else there are a few books upstairs in the guest bedroom."

"Yeah, she told me she likes to help people, that's why she wants to take a nursing course at the college."

He considered going to look at the books, but he doubted there would be anything he liked so he went back to the couch and lifted Isabelle's legs so he could sit down. With her feet in his lap he turned the tv on, flipping through the channels until he got to the science network.

Judith chuckled, but it could be heard from where Isabelle and Blake were seated. "That girl has always wanted to be a doctor of sorts, even as a child. I'll try not to embarrass the poor dear too much, but she used to bandage up her toys when they broke. Said they were just fine like that, she'd fixed them right up."

Other than the noise coming from the tv, the house was silent. The occasional tapping of rain could be heard against the windows. Judith called Blake to eat when she was done, setting three plates at their dining table just across and to the right of the living room.

The tv was droning on about ionic bonds and their importance in the human life and Blake only glanced away from the tv when he heard dishes being put down. He looked at the table then back at Isabelle and said, "Should I wake her up, or will she eat later?"

"I'm up." Isabelle mumbled, her eyes still closed. She sat up, and yawned. "Don't worry, I'm up." With one hand she rubbed her face and then swung her legs over the side of the couch.

The two went to the dining room to eat, Isabelle still yawning slightly. She was happy Blake didn't leave.

Blake sat down next to Isabelle and picked up his fork. "So, Judith, where do you work?" he asked, disliking the silence that was heard between them. Awkward conversation was better than no conversation.

"I'm an accountant for a nearby firm. We occasionally do audits for other companies. It's not a glamorous life, but it'll do." Judith replied, then bounced a question back his way. "So Blake, do you have any siblings then?"

Isabelle glanced over at Blake, sensing they both felt the whole situation was a little awkward.

Blake had been sure to put down his fork every few bites so as to not eat too fast. Feeling Isabelle's eyes on him he shot a look her way and smiled a bit.

"I have a younger sister, Willow. She's thirteen, just starting high school. I rarely get to see her but every once in a while she'll call me for help on her homework."

"Isn't that sweet." Judith noted. "And your parents? Do they live close by?" Judith continued.

Isabelle smiled back at Blake and picked slowly at her food. She wasn't hungry, but she still tried to force something down.

"They're an hour or so away. I only see them on special occasions and what not, mostly cause I'm always so busy." Blake shrugged, looking down at his plate.

He took another bite of the meat and after swallowing he said, "This pork is great. What spices did you use?"

Judith winked playfully and laughed, "Family secret, no chance boy. But thank you."

Isabelle blushed, embarrassed with her aunt. She had finished all she could eat, so she sat with her arms crossed on the table, glancing between her aunt and Blake as they exchanged bits of conversation.

"I didn't know you had a sister, Blake." Isabelle chimed in, a small attempt to make the conversation less awkward.

Blake looked up at Isabelle, glad she was feeling better, or at least acting like she was. He set down his fork again. "You never asked. I didn't think it really mattered if I told you about someone I rarely saw." He ate a bit more and then added, "Maybe you'll get to meet her someday."

He sounded a bit cold towards his own sister. He rarely saw her? Probably because Blake was always so busy.

"Someday." Isabelle echoed. She stood up, taking her plate with her into the kitchen. She found some tupperware to keep the leftovers in, figuring she could save it for later at the very least.

"Are you full Izzy, dear? There's some left over soup in the fridge if you want." Judith spoke up with a sympathetic voice, as if the poor appetite of Isabelle was common.

"I'm okay, Aunt Judy, thanks."

Judith took her own empty plate to the kitchen, washed it, and excused herself back to her office. This left Isabelle alone in the kitchen, and Blake at the table. Isabelle played with the ends of her hair, she grinned at Blake awkwardly.

"That wasn't weird, was it? I'm sorry, I asked you to stay, I wasn't sure if.." Isabelle rambled on.

Blake only had a few bites left on his own plate so he ate them quickly and took his plate out to the kitchen too. "That was a bit weird, I'm not great with small talk... but I didn't mind staying, don't you worry." He leaned against the counter, a small grin on his lips.

"I can't help it. My aunt can be a bit eccentric, and I was worried she'd talk to much, or I'd say something weird." Isabelle was still rambling, her face growing red with every next word.

She took Blake's dishes and began to wash them to distract herself, along with her own and her aunt's.

"No, it was fine," he reassured her, pushing away from the counter. He moved and hugged her from behind, resting his head on her shoulder. "I think your fever got a bit better."

"I think so, maybe I was just too flustered earlier." Isabelle replied. She leaned her head into his and put a small smile on her face. "I'm still very hot, though, see?"

Isabelle moved one of his hands to her face and held it against her cheek. It was a comforting feeling to have his skin touching her own. She moved her head slightly so she could kiss the tips of his fingers.

Blake loved how natural this felt, it concealed the weirdness of them only knowing each other for a few days. That didn't much matter too him though, he was happy and so was Isabelle.

"Sorry for making you so flustered," he murmured, "I'll try not to do it again."

"Yeah, right." She teased, "You like it when I get flustered."

Isabelle looked out the window, remembering it was still raining. She debated in her head whether or not she should ask Blake a favor. "Hey, so, there's something I've always wanted to do. It's really stupid, but, humor me here."

Isabelle took Blake by the hand and led him towards the front door, she opened it up and looked outside. She turned to face him, and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear before asking. "It's sort of been an idea that I could just go outside and dance in the rain, don't make fun of me okay?"
