"Do you remember what the stars looked like?"
"I do."
"Were they pretty?"
"They were."
"Will I ever get to see the stars?"
"I don't think so. But look to the hills. Do you see the street lights in the distance?"
"Yes."
"It's not too different from the stars. I saw what twinkled above me back then, but I never noticed that they shone just the same."
"Did the stars look like that?"
"No. But I wonder if that matters. They're both pretty, after all. And if the stars were above you, I don't think you would look to these lights either. That kind of makes them more special."
"I don't understand."
"...Neither do I."
Story and Setting:
Following war, bio-weapons, and far off nuclear detonations 30 years ago, humanity's straggling survivors are doing their best to live through the nuclear winter triggered worldwide. An isolated population using a now barren city may not yet be in any risk of running out of food and water, but the creeping cold makes electricity a necessity for heat.
However, with nobody to manage power plants, even with renewable energy set up far away, an inevitable failure has occured. For the sake of survival, a group must make the journey to repair whatever has cut off electricity in order to keep their chance at life. - or seek a new settlement and give up the other resources there.
Direction
My intent is to use the setting to drive the story wherever the RPers wish it to go within the setting. Estranged to the limits of their lives, I am hoping for the RP to be very deeply interpersonal, with survival struggles and seeking purposes to even live in such a bleak future to take root as main themes.
The world, alongside the way I intend to handle it, will make the concept of light coming from the land make sense in time. I believe that no matter what path you try to take, that will hold true. Think of it as a teaser for the end point of a story that you will create alongside your fellow RPers.
Another focus I wanted was a setting for an RP that takes immense pride in things that are... very small. Taken for granted in our everyday lives. Things like hot meals with friends and the relief of a warm bed. Many RPs I see tend to try and escalate things. They want to be grand and impressive. I want to direct a setting where the simple conveys that same sense of awe and inspiration.
More in depth information can be found, and will be updated in time, on the main page
