Well for instance, he has a whole day before when he's supposed to arrive. Most people won't get there until then if they value efficiency in using their time. In the meantime, he has basically a whole day to explore the area and at least get his bearings. Should he happen to wander a little further than intended, he could easily find his way into a fateful encounter of sorts with a group of people that just happened to be fleeing at top pace. That should be interesting to say the least.

When "Vate faire foutre" doesn't even have a direct translation in Japanese. How the hey does she know anything about France? Heck, France hasn't even formed up into the way we know it as now in the time this is set in. I'm confused how that would even work.

Completely unrelated also, but I wouldn't touch the phrase, "trigger warning" with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole, lol. It's inaccurate to the context it was used in then, and besides, I usually associate it with a lot of negative connotations. That's me, though.

My plan was to have her be of French heritage since I tend to do that with a lot of my characters d;

I was planning to have her great-grandmother or so flee from France under shady circumstances where she and her great-grandfather ran from persecution. Having heard of Japan while around the area of China, they set their sights on it due to its seclusion from continental territory. They would have had difficulties learning Japanese considering they were past their prime in learning, but their child would be easier to do so. To keep their culture, they would teach their children to be bilingual, keeping the tradition ever since to remind them of where they came from. I also planned for her to be secretly Catholic considering it was the predominant religion of France at the time.

This was something I was working on in the meantime before what I hoped was the time it became relevant. It would allow their family to communicate with each other in total discretion and whatnot, and gives me reason to give her a pretty name d;

Yeah, yeah, but I hope too many European characters don't arise. Diversity or not, there were only a very rare few foreigners there at the time, I believe. I like the idea of shadowz1995 character a lot. Going for two "gaijin" is kind of pushing it, but more than that, in my opinion, might be too much.

Oh, that's why. I get it now. Anyways, I wasn't really objecting, just asking for why a French phrase suddenly appeared. I probably still stand by that "two 'gaijin' is enough" thing, though. I think we're all fine for now. Thanks for explaining.

I could always spin it around and make the demon father French? To where his book was lost among generations and was located in Japan as an antique. Then her grandmother or whomever possessed it discovered its language and spent their life learning about it to decipher the text. I'm not very up to speed on Japanese history, but I would hate to knowingly go against it. Would this be better? It hasn't come up IC yet so perhaps I can still work on it. Kitsunes, tanukis, etc. could all probably be classified as youkai, with them having been animals at one point and becoming youkai after living very long lives. Khaoul and Hanuun could be classified as youkai too, since it's such a broad term. They're pretty unique, though, so any classification besides "demon" or "youkai" wouldn't work.
