“Little by little, the old world crumbled, and not once did the king imagine that some of the pieces might fall on him.”

This Kingdom is crumbling. The old ways are disappearing; a new nation is to be born amongst the rubble.

Meoria was a Kingdom which once prospered beneath the Thiputian Dynasty, from father to son for as long as time had given it note in the books of clergymen. There had never been an empty throne, and there had always been Thiputian blood to occupy it.

Yet, as all good things come to an end, it seemed the era of peace would too. The Eabroudian Dynasty, locked Meoria into war after rising tensions and pointed fingers - hate festering in wounds left by one another till the spark blew into an inferno as the Eabroudian King’s ambassador was found murdered on a diplomatic trip to Meoria.

The conflict ravaged Meoria, fields were razed, cattle slaughtered, men killed. Lands running red with the blood of a thousand soldiers, and a thousand more till they pushed back the enemy. Seven years at war left Meoria destitute and ruined. Famine swept the country, killing peasants en masse - grain was seized, inflation rose till even a loaf of bread went from coppers to gold pieces.

Only months after the war came to an end with a mutually agreed armistice, Eabroudia took advantage of the climate and began backing puppet revolutionaries, as well as nobles with financial aid alongside shipments of weapons, food, and armour. Sparking a civil war to further destabilize Meoria’s position. The peasant classes are beginning to bear their teeth, coming to the end of what tether they have left - striking, rising up, joining rebellious causes. And one knows, that with the proletariat behind a cause - the crown will fall.

King Thiputian can barely keep his court together, where lurks the beginnings of betrayal and treason amongst its ranks. Lords and Ladies are challenged in their loyalty, whilst the Spymaster, Lord Blackbriar seems to lurk among the privy council with intent. The King is growing old and sick with age, his mind is slipping and people are beginning to count the days to his death.

Who will ascend to the broken throne?

This is a reboot of the initial "Shattered Crown" although has been adapted due to prior loss of interest. While we still want a low fantasy setting, there is going to be magical aspects. Not fireballs or lightning bolts, but far more of the occult, alchemy, and mystics - further to be explained in the character sheets (:

Unfortunately, there will be no guns nor gunpowder, but perhaps some form of greek fire and all other medieval base weapons.

The plot shall be centred around the King's Court and main city for now, where we can introduce political intrigue and dynastic succession squabbles. Interaction is key, as many know to a good long lasting roleplay.

If there is lack of being able to put your character into play, I will try and ensure to draw you into the larger group or otherwise xx

This will be Co-Admined by High Moon High Moon

The king needs an occult mage. A woman doing rites with dead people and their souls. A shady, eery woman in black Hood, looking like the grim reaper itself. Neither rebels, nor spies, nor royals and loyals want to get on her bad side. Her magic is scary and not understood.
Go for it - as I said, I'll explain further about magic in the CS

The best thing about occult mages that you are really afraid of is, the line between what people THINK they can do and what they can REALLY do is blurry to invisible.
Yepyep, but the factor is we want to keep magic a far more unknown and invisible thing if you get me.
Also your new character would probably be something of a Wise Woman

Wise woman is exactly the wrong direction. Cultist would do better.
Imagine a cult towards some kind of death god. Through the war and similar occurances, it has found a large base in the population of the land and cannot be ignored. To not have the cult turn against him, the king took the cult leader to his court. Also, because the things she was said to be able to do were not explainable. Her rites seemed cruel, but many people backed her. Its hard to tell if she is a crazy religious person or if she just is clever enough to utilize people and knowledge to gain a position.

I'll say for now it'd be allowed. Yet she wouldn't be allowed within walking distance of the monarch.
She can also not wield extreme power.

And the occult/mysticism can be used against her, such as countering incantations and spells/hexes and curses. Blessings and cleansing rituals would be used - and after she stepped foot into the court she'd be somewhat trapped by clergymen etc.

Of course, that is all part of my idea. However, the chants and spells will be somewhat hard countering her. She tends to sacrifice lives (Human or animal, it doesnt matter) and a normal spell, without a rite, will hardly counter. Or am i mistaken here?

Anyways, i DO think the king would have to talk to her every now and then. :)

The King would send messangers or letters, he's currently sick and about to keel over. Plus shes from a cult.

As for countering spells, im basing this off of irl wiccan rituals.
Sacrificing may or may not make it stronger yet once the court has the person whos making life hell for them, she becomes a glorified prisoner

As my second character, i had the idea of a ranger group that follows the king. Not directly part of the army, they are a more elite kind of thing. Those are basically the best of the best and a side group under direct order of Silas and the king. (though their loyalties lie with Silas. Not officially, but...) They do the more shady jobs, as well as scouting missions and spy work. The leader would be my character.

That's much easier to accept xD

I would definitely be interested! While this account is new, I've been roleplaying for around seven years and I used to roleplay here under a different account. Life forced me to take a long hiatus so I decided to just start fresh now that I've returned.

What ranks will there be for the characters?

Nice, welcome back then!

The ranks will be from military to aristocracy, as well as servants and peasant classes.

Roles of the royal family will be in the CS for choosing

This looks fun! Demon prince is what I want to go for. Maybe an aristocrat stumbled into something or it was an infiltration plan. If not I have some other ideas.

Oh, ok lel. How about the king's doctor?
Royal Physician/Doctor is open ^^
But as Kitten said, no demons etc and there is currently only the Thiputian royal family in place
