This headline first hit the shelves in 2013, after an incident that caused thirteen deaths and massive destruction across downtown Heartland. The exact details were never released, but everyone knew that mutants were responsible.

The riots started after that. And two years later, the Mutant Neutralization Task Force was created.

There came a need for mutants, young and old, to be able to defend themselves from those who wished to harm them. Then came the Institute- a place that was part school and part safe haven. Through illusions and cloaking technology, it was kept hidden from all unwanted visitors. It could only be found through a series of codes and ciphers distributed in the furthest corners of online chat rooms and the dark, creepy alleys of the world; changed every two or three months to prevent governments from cracking them.
You are one of those mutants. You are about to learn exactly what this Institute is about.

Okay, yes, the idea is back again. But this time I have a plan! The story will be told in arcs, each with a sort of goal in mind. It won’t just be a school simulator or a gritty superhero rp- it’ll technically be both.

Arc 1:

Introductions. Setting up how our characters will interact with each other for the rest of rp. This will focus on more of the school part of it, new students getting set up and things like that.
And we’ll figure out the rest of the arcs as we go. Introducing a big bad, revealing a traitor, etc. can all be points in an arc or even the main goal of an arc. Stuff like that.

Okay, that’s all I’ve got right now. I will say this rp isn’t for the faint of heart and will probably require semi-frequent trigger warnings, so don’t join unless you can handle things like that. Oh and Discord is a requirement!

Hi everyone!

We're looking for new RP-ers to join, and there are a few slots open. This RP is an X-Men-like story following a group of mutants who are either students or residents of the Cameron Institute.

The mutants have survived a hectic training session and have foiled an assassination plot targeted against a pro-mutant politician. This RP is designed in a way that allows new players to jump in at any stage throughout the story, so please don't feel as if you have missed out on much.

Currently, we have slots ranging from A-tier to E-tier mutants. We encourage players to not try to create the most powerful character possible, but rather to consider their character's personality, depth, motivations and weaknesses, then using a power that you believe fits well with all of that.

If your character is a teenager or young adult, they may be a student. Older characters would either be a resident or a member of staff.

That being said, we have these slots available:

A-tier: (TWO REMAINING)
Superman level. An Elemental who can set a whole forest ablaze, or a Magician that can conjure a portal the size of Atlanta. Potent but not untouchable. Can have multiple small weaknesses or one big one (ex: Superman and Kryptonite). Near total mastery and range of power, or, as previously stated, just insane powers that can do a lot of damage.

B-tier:
Green Lantern level. A Metamorph that can maintain a shape for a few hours, or a Mentalist that can make contact with a small crowd all at the same time. One major weakness that’s kind of easy to find or use, or several small-medium weaknesses. Semi-mastery or semi-range of powers, or powers that have some strength behind them.

C-tier:
Most common power level, where most supers start. A Mentalist that can see a day into the future, or a Magician that can only conjure three or four manhole-sized portals. At least one major weakness, probably a medium weakness too. Low-ish power mastery and low-ish range of powers, or powers that don’t have a lot of strength.

D-tier:
Practically nonexistent powers. An Elemental that can make a flame the size of a match, or a Metamorph that can only change a hand or a foot. Weak to a lot of things. No or very low power mastery, no or very low range of powers, or powers that have very little strength.

E-tier:
Batman. It’s the tier you get at power testing if you can’t do anything at all. Either your powers are dormant or the gene is there but they’ll never show up.

Cool, how do you feel about magic users?
Like Walliver said, the rules are in OOC on discord. We can also discuss with you the extent of your character's powers.

In terms of magic, the rules are pretty much still the same. The extent of their powers will have to adhere to the tier system. Here's some points to consider:
- All magic users are mutants but not all mutants are magic users
- Magic should not be able to give your character the ability to do anything: they should focus perhaps on a 'school' of magic.
- Because magic users are mutants, they're still susceptible to technology that suppresses mutant powers.
- Your character's magic has to make sense in the world. If it requires more world building, we can all discuss that.
- A specialisation is preferable. Simple examples are fire magic, lightning magic, or earth magic, rather than just straight up 'elemental magic'
- What is the source of your character's magic?
- Why is their power considered to be magical rather than just a regular power? What makes it different.

Just to make it clear, I'm not the GM, so these are more like suggestions than hard rules.

Some examples of magic based characters in our RP include:

S-Tier Summoner -- Alexander
Can summon creatures made of shadow. His powers come from an ancient eldritch entity that has cursed his family.

A-Tier Magic User - Sonia
Can summon a box which contains magical energies. While holding the box, she has access to a few different abilities.

More details about these characters and the rest of the roster are in their respective CSs on the discord. I definitely recommend joining, if only to get a more clear understanding of what kinds of characters work. You'll see a wide variety of powers!
