Remi, Miles

Homecoming was as hype as ever. Amy finally felt comfortable with how vibrant, and loud the whole season was no in her junior year at DuBois, which wasn't surprising since Amy has been having to adapt to her environment since high school. Ever changing and always for the better...apparently. Dubois had really helped her start to feel more comfortable in her own skin since freshman year she remembered wanting to feel like a nobody after her big and sudden thrust into the limelight. Luckily there were so many stars in DuBois she could still be herself, and make music without being seen as something outrageously special because damn near everyone was the best at what they did here.

Take her best friend Orisha, who was a swimming champ, or her boyfriend Remi who was destined to be drafted into the NFL. Speaking of which she needed to find Ori so they could hang out for a bit before the game started. She figured tailgating started at 9 am and the game didn't start till noon, so she spent the first hour helping out her sisters set up which now left two hours for her to enjoy herself. There were so many people already dancing, and drinking she figured she should text Ori a specific place to meet her or else she'd never find her.

She found a nice little spot near the end of where all the frats and sororities had set up their tailgates, and texted her. Funny she never really thought herself the type to rush, but she was glad she had. It had helped her though her break up with Remi Freshman year stay positive and productive. It helped her to met Miles...which was still kind of sore topic. Another thing she never thought she'd do was be the one to end a relationship because SHE was the problem.

She sighed and shook her head. Now wasn't the time to think about any of that. It was Game Day! While Amy still hardly understood any of Remi's football talk (clearly because this DuChat looked like straight gibberish to her), she still enjoyed seeing him so passionate about it. Even if at times the passion he had for it surpassed his passion for her. When she finally caught a glimpse of Ori she stood up and waved her hand calling out to her, "Hey over here!" She giggled jogging up to her with a wide grin on her face. "Hey! You ready? Also are you staying for the whole game?" She asked curiously. She wanted to know if she only had these two hours with her, or if she could just spend the whole night with her. Well other then after the game, she'd go see Remi then.

Zachary couldn’t keep the smile off his face. The Dubois homecoming tailgate was a living, breathing tapestry of colors, sounds, and scents. Everywhere he looked, people were dressed in deep maroon and gold, waving banners and cheering, their laughter blending with the steady bass of music and the smell of barbecue drifting from the grills. The campus lawn stretched before them, transformed into a celebration, with students, alumni, and families mingling under a sky that seemed to open up just for this day.
"Is this what it feels like to have school pride?” he said, chuckling as he and Bethany passed a group of dancers moving in perfect sync to a drumline’s beat. He couldn’t help but sway to the rhythm as they went by. Back at Harvard, he'd seen school spirit, but it was always buttoned-up, restrained. Here, every smile, every hug, every cheer seemed unfiltered, real.
He glanced at her, feeling a warmth spread through him that was more than just the fall sunshine. Bethany’s enthusiasm was contagious. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, the same way they had when she’d first agreed to transfer with him, leaving the security of a place they’d known for something bold and unknown. But as she took in the sights, her face lit up like she’d been waiting for this her whole life.

They stopped by a table lined with alumni from the class of '86, all dressed in vintage Dubois sweatshirts, the colors faded but still proud. One of the older men raised his cup, calling out, "New faces! Welcome, welcome!" His voice carried over the crowd, drawing others’ attention to Zachary and Bethany.

“Where y'all from?” another alum called out, a woman in a sequined Dubois cap and gold earrings that shone in the sun.

Zachary felt a momentary flicker of nerves. "Uh, we just transferred… from Harvard,” he said, feeling almost sheepish as the words left his mouth. The crowd around them raised their eyebrows, intrigued and confused. As they continued through the crowd, Zachary felt a sense of grounding he hadn’t known he was missing. Sure, at Harvard, he'd been academically driven, surrounded by ambition, but he hadn’t realized how much he’d craved a place like this. A place where he wasn’t just another student but a part of a living legacy that pulsed through the very ground they stood on. Laughing, they made their way over, stepping aside as a group of step team members moved past, hyping up the crowd with cheers and coordinated stomps that made the ground vibrate. Zachary watched, mesmerized, as the team moved with an energy that seemed like pure joy. They were here for this moment, and nothing else mattered. He felt Bethany’s hand on his, steadying him, reminding him that he, too, was part of this now.
Zachary nodded, his heart swelling. “Yeah. Here, it’s not just about making it. It’s about making something real. Being something real” He took a bite of the smoky barbecue, savoring the taste of something that felt both new and familiar. And as they stood there, watching the tailgate in full swing, Zachary felt a deep, resounding contentment. He was exactly where he was supposed to be.

Jordy’s fingers tightened around the steering wheel as he pulled up to the edge of the tailgate, a blur of tents, music, and people spilling out before them. Stella sat beside him, scrolling through her phone, her freshly polished nails glinting in the late afternoon sun. She looked every bit the part she’d set out to play, and if he was honest, she’d perfected it: hair falling in soft waves, jeans snug around her curves, and that unshakable air of confidence she wore like armor. Everything about her was polished, like she’d just stepped out of some catalog—picture-perfect. He sighed, quietly enough that she wouldn’t notice. His mind raced through what this day would look like, wondering if he’d have to put on the usual show. But a different thought lingered underneath, one he kept trying to shove down: that maybe, just maybe, it was okay to actually want to be here with her, and not just because it made for good photos.

Jordy shifted in his seat, reaching over to tap her hand gently. “Alright, superstar," he said, his voice casual but with a hint of something unspoken. He forced a smirk, the kind he knew she liked in pictures, as he unbuckled his seatbelt. "You ready to go dazzle the crowd?”She glanced up from her phone, already grinning as if on cue, but Jordy could tell she was in her element here, about to work the crowd. He could feel that familiar script setting in between them—the routine, the snapshots, the “it-couple” act they’d somehow fallen into. But today felt… different. He climbed out of the Jeep and took a long breath of the crisp autumn air. As he rounded the front of the car, he caught a glimpse of her watching herself in the side mirror, adjusting a strand of hair, a faint smudge of lip gloss on her fingertip. Without thinking, he opened her door, holding out his hand to help her out, not because anyone was watching, but because he… wanted to.

“Let’s make it a good one, yeah?” he said, looking down at her with a half-smile. "I’ll try not to mess up any of your photo ops." He chuckled, trying to keep it light, but in truth, his words felt heavier than he wanted to admit.

As she stepped down, his gaze lingered a little longer than usual. She was beautiful, sure, but there was something more—something he’d noticed in the little moments. He’d seen how she laughed when she thought no one was looking, how she’d let her guard down just a little in between takes. Clearing his throat, he gave her a playful nudge with his elbow. "Hope you’re ready to be seen with the most mediocre college baseballl player in town," he teased, shoving his hands into his pockets as they started walking he was actually was really good at baseball but ya know be humble. "But hey, if you need me to look extra charming, just give me a signal. You know, so the fans don’t riot.”

Jordy tried to keep his face neutral, to hide the fact that maybe—just maybe—he was starting to enjoy this whole thing with her more than he’d ever let her know.

Stella wasn't sure what she expected of tonight outside of the typical show face, drink a bit, and maybe dance if she's really in the mood. Her nights out lately have all been about showing the public she was still the same old Stella and her "rebellious phase" was over. According to her management team. Which meant more calm , cool, tame evenings. Funny once upon a time this was all she ever wanted in a relationship. The irony wasn't lost on her she just refused to think about it.

It'd be a more wild evening if she was spending it with Dee. They only got to sneak around from time to time now. Never public events, or parties that might get too much attention, never a space where a fan might recognize her. However recently she'd been spending more and more time with Jordy outside of the contracted obligations. Which shouldn't be a surprise since he's her "boyfriend" even if they both knew it was PR to keep her from Dee...which secretly hasn't been working. Well it wasn't at first... now? Better...

Yes it's confusing, but Stella IS confused. She finds herself actually liking the time she spends with him. Being with Jordy reminded her of how she felt dating in high school...well before the heartbreak. Which is why she needed to keep her walls up because the last thing she needs is to fall for the "nice guy" and get screwed over again. At least she didn't have to worry about that with Dee. She was who she was through and through good and bad...there was just a LOT of bad...

Point is she was here to support her school, show face for the media, and have some fun with Jordy. She turned to face him once he spoke up after scrolling through her phone most of the ride and making sure her make-up was right. "Always." She smirked back automatically. He had a way with words, that she liked. It stroked her ego just the right ways. It was the little things like opening the door for her, that were dangerously close to melting the frost around her heart, "Don't worry you look good at every angle." She grinned giving the genuine compliment. As they began to walk and he continued talking she couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips, "You? Mediocre? Darling don't sell yourself short, I'm not ever seen with average. It's ok to flaunt a bit you know. You worked hard to be at the top. Enjoy it." She smiled while gently reaching up to his cheek to trace her thumb along his jawline as they spoke.

Her eyes met his for just a moment, and that was a mistake. It took everything in her to look away back towards the tents, "Anyways, whose tailgate should we hit up first?" They had some time, might as well make the most of it. She slipped her hand casually back into his because that was their role. Nothing serious, just for show. She needed to always remind herself of that.

Jordy felt his pulse jump a little as she looked at him, her eyes catching his in a way that made the noise around them fade. The hand on his jaw, that warm touch, lingered in his mind even after she’d pulled it away. But he couldn’t let himself dwell on that; they both knew the rules of this thing. He gave her a playful grin, hoping it masked how she was somehow getting past his own defenses. “Alright, alright, guess I’ll let myself flaunt a bit, seeing as I’ve got such high standards to meet.” He gave a mock bow as they walked, nudging her playfully with his shoulder. "And here I was, thinking I was just a part of the scenery. Good to know I’m passin’ inspection.” He glanced toward the row of tents, spotting his frat’s setup—an alpha red-and-white banner flapping in the breeze, a few folding chairs strewn around, and a couple of kegs ready to go. The guys weren’t all there yet, but that was normal. Zay and Logan would probably show up just in time to down half a keg before anyone else even noticed. “Well, since we’re here to have a ‘calm, cool, tame evening,’ as you so eloquently put it, thought we’d hit up my tent first,” he said, putting on a mock-serious tone and raising his brows.

He squeezed her hand a little tighter, leaning closer as they walked, half for the cameras he knew were snapping from somewhere, half for the strange feeling of calm she gave him. “Anyway, don’t think I ever got a real chance to thank you for keepin’ me on my game with this whole PR thing. I mean, you’re still hanging around me despite me being ‘just’ a baseball guy. I must be doing something right.” He chuckled and looked down, feeling that rare flicker of vulnerability creep in. She made it easy to be himself, even if he didn’t know where that left him. Jordy’s laugh faded into a quiet smile as he looked down at their joined hands. Her fingers felt warm against his, soft and somehow steadying, even when the rest of the night felt like one big act. He took a breath, glancing sideways at her as they walked, choosing his words carefully.
“Y’know,” he started, his voice softer, almost lost in the background noise of the crowd, “sometimes… this whole thing feels kinda real. Don’t you think?” He kept his gaze forward, pretending to look at something in the distance, but he could feel the weight of his own words hanging between them. He let out a small, self-conscious laugh, trying to shake it off. “I mean, it’s funny, right? We’re just two people playin’ a part, keeping up appearances, but… sometimes it feels like there’s more to it than just the show.” He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, knowing he was treading on thin ice, but unable to resist testing the waters.

He finally dared to meet her gaze, half-expecting her to laugh it off or tell him to snap out of it. “Maybe it’s just me,” he added, attempting to play it cool, “but I think we make a pretty good team, on and off camera.”

Jordy flashed her a grin, trying to keep things light, but he couldn’t ignore the feeling that maybe he wasn’t the only one starting to wonder if this thing between them was more than just PR.

Logan, Sam, Eliza, Reshard

Nyla was super happy that she decided to first off live off campus this year. It was Senior year and honestly the hype of being on campus had lost it's luster. She was ready to keep focus and finish strong. However she knew it being potentially her final year before deciding to go pro or not she needed to make the most of this year which meant attending as much events as she could while not in season. The ever crowded Homecoming game included.

She threw on an outfit and made her way to the tailgating area. She might as well pre-game a bit right? The problem was who to pre-game with. Normally she'd have gone with Sam, but he was busy today apparently. Then there was always Logan, but he'd probably be in an out faster than anyone, so maybe she'd hit him up after the game to see which after party he was gonna show face at. Then a thought crossed her mind that she instantly tried to shake away...Reshard.

Things had been...interesting lately to say the least between them. Nyla always swore up and down he'd never be her type, but lately? Maybe it was just her getting soft. But if she learned anything from her failed relationship with Eliza that she can't just date anyone just because she likes them. She still help a lot of love in her heart for Eliza despite how things ended. However letting someone have the ability to affect you to the point you get benched in a game is not ok. Not this year.

She parker her car and walked up to the tents that were easy to find due to the crowds, music, and cheering erupting from the area. She scrolled through her timeline as she walked waving a peace to some people who called out to her. Her eyes landed on the bright Pink and Green AKA's Tent. Most notably her friend Del. Bingo! Del was always a good time on and off the court. "Yo, Del!" She called out walking up. "Feel like helping yah girl get right?" She shot a playful wink.

Hearing him say that she wanted a calm night she blinked in confusion. Did she say that aloud? Or did her face tell her thoughts again? She really needed to work on that. There was no way he could read her that well right? "Ah yes because nothing says calm like Alpha's" She giggled.

She noticed the tightened grip, but she figured maybe he was still just nervous about playing their roles in public. It's one thing when it's just them, or they are out on the carpet for an event for her...it's another thing to act like you like someone in front of your friends, your brothers. She kept most relationships at arms length or strictly business even amongst her friendships, so it was consernably easy to put up the front in their presence. She knew deep down that meant she should work on her level of friendships, but she couldn't be bothered to focus on that right now. Not when she's so close to getting everything she's ever wanted in her career.

"No need to thank me." She replied simply. "You're technically the one doing me a favor, I'm just glad that hopefully it'll benefit you too. Teams like positive exposure for their athletes after all." She explained even though she felt he was giving her too much credit. They were in this mess because of her. He was bailing her out, and what he got out of it she hoped was worth it in the end to him. She's never felt bad about doing what she has to to get ahead, but something about using him has started to make her stomach churn. Is this what guilt feels like?

She froze mentally hearing the next words the fell from his lips. Sure she was a damn good actress, but they couldn't afford to blur the lines. She didn't know how to ACTUALLY be someone's girlfriend anymore. His nervous laughter made her stomach start to turn, oh no what should she do? "I suppose...I guess that means we're doing it right...right?" She asked sort of confusing herself. She'd never done a PR relationship before, even though she'd heard about them. So the point was for it to look real, and to look real she supposed it should at least sometimes feel real right? That's at least what she always tells herself when that warm safe feeling starts creeping up in her chest when she's with him.

She swallowed softly keeping her gaze forward just like he was because looking up was dangerous right now, "I mean...I like to think even when everything is said and done, that I didn't cause you so much trouble that you'd hate me. So I kinda thought that maybe just maybe yeah there is something more here in the sense we aren't strangers anymore, we could still...I don't know hang out." Truth be told he was verbalizing everything she'd been feeling recently, and it scared her. It scared her of what it might mean if he was right. What if real feelings were developing here? What would she do? what would she tell Dee? She already felt shitty that she'd been meeting up with her less and less since this whole thing started. Could she really cut things off with her? Did she want to just because Jordy had feelings for her? Was this something that could actually last if she gave it a real try? There were so many questions swirling in her head right now, and it felt like she had the answer to none of them.

She could feel his gaze turn towards her and she felt like she had to give him an answer. He deserved an answer. Before she knew it as their eyes met the words fell effortlessly, and maybe carelessly off her lips, "I Agree." She bit her lip lightly before asking her next question because the last thing she wanted to do was either overthink what he was saying or worse undervalue him being open. "What sort of team are you hoping we be? Like friends or...staying like this?" gesturing to their held hands by raising it slightly.

Every year, Orisha thought navigating the tailgate would be easier. It seemed that more people flooded the scene—especially during Homecoming. Tailgaiting tended to be an all-day affair, from getting to the tailgate at 9 to the game at 12 to whatever party was soon to follow after.

Thankfully, she had plenty of time to rest after swim practice the other day. A few years back, going to a tailgate would've been something she heavily pondered in her bedroom while strumming on her guitar before brushing the thought away. She loved showing up to cheer on DuBois, her home away from home.

In the short time she'd been at DuBois, she came to have a deep love for the school and the people around her — like her best friend Amy, for instance, who she was supposed to be meeting. Game day was almost more fun with her around. She checked her phone to see where she was supposed to meet Amy,

She stood on her tip-toes to peer through the crowd before spotting her friend waving excitedly and hurrying over to her. "Hey! I thought I'd have to climb a light pole to see you," she said as she gave her a hug. Yeah, I'd planned to. How about you? "

H
omecoming at DuBois, the students were prepared and into the impending event. People were thrilled for the football team. Heisman candidate Remi Michael had been producing, and frankly, the entire team had. Things were appearing up for the DuBois football team. Dallas was over—excited about the approaching game. Moreso for the parties thereafter, and to spend time with Diamond. The youth still imagined he was the most blessed guy around. Diamond was everything, the glowing glimmer of his day, year, fuck his life. Anytime he saw that girl smile, he couldn't help but chuckle.

They had discussed gathering at the University's heart. Inherently a section that symbolized everything within the campus domain, was within walking width. Numerous students had been walking to the tailgating events from the University's nucleus. Eliminated parking challenges, fees, and the like. Wasn’t a demanding venture for Dallas where he had been living, and he knew Diamond wasn’t distant either.

He texted his girl, his spheres peering downward at his phone
“Aye baby girl, I’ll be at the University Center in like 5 minutes. When I get there I wanna see that beautiful smile.”
Recently she had indicated that they needed to take college seriously. It wasn’t a fun, and games reality. This could mandate the rest of their lives. She wasn’t wrong, Dallas knew that and he was stretching to find a favorable medium. This adventure doesn’t happen repeatedly throughout your life. So he couldn’t just throw away this party-life happening but the one thing he preferred more than this occasion was her. But she had to recognize there had to be some agreement, right? A relationship was give, and take, but he’d try to take school more seriously.

His footprints were feathery throughout his navigation to the University hub. DuBois football jerseys throughout. Scattering headbobs from people Dallas knew but didn’t have a moment to delay and converse. He wanted to see Diamond, and couldn’t be troubled with amusing anyone else. It hadn’t been lengthy before he reached the pre-described center. Smiling, an amiable crease upon his lips as he was numerous feet from Diamond, faintly biting down on his bottom lip.

A universal urge of enthusiasm coursed through his silhouette, focusing on her elegance
“Excuse me baby girl but I’m gonna have to report you to the proper authorities. You’re not allowed to look this fucking good on campus grounds.”
Addressing Diamond, his digits were situated upon her waistline as he tilted his upper figure inward, pressing his lips into hers with the assumption that she’d support the kiss.

His tenderhearted spheres stared into her own after his lips peeled off her’s feebly, like stripping off tape, presuming she authorized his embrace. An amiable smirk and soothing verbalized sentences cascade from his lips
“Almost positive I can beat you to the stadium”
He declared with an incessant smirk. They were both a part of the track and field team. But he’d also be responsive to walking with his baby girl to the stadium as well. He truthfully hadn’t even contemplated her attire option and if it’d accommodated his challenge.

Miki, Zoey

Diamond was super excited for Homecoming this year since she was officially an AKA that meant there was even more to do then last year! Which is surprising because there seems to be an endless amount of celebrating happening constantly. This was just what she needed to kick start the year before trying to buckle down and get serious. Last year she entered DuBois as an undecided major, but this semester she picked Dance. It was something she loved, and was good at, so why not start there? What was she going to do with a dance major? Who knows, she'd figure that out later. Getting the degree was the important part right?

Plus she had three years to figure that out, and she had lots of support in that. She's met some pretty ambitious friends like Zoey who she knows won't let her slack off, but also friends like Miki who is figuring things out like her, so she doesn't feel like the only one. In some ways she envied her boyfriend. While he doesn't take much seriously he at least has a path right now he can take that's clear, if he just focuses on it. Sometimes she feels like her job is just to make sure he doesn't waste such a golden opportunity for himself. After all she loves him to the moon and back, but she doesn't want either of them to live a purposeless life, or to waste this chance they've been given to be something more then who they were back home. She won't go back to that ever again, and she wants him to stay by her side in that...but if he chooses to let go...she'd have no choice, but to do the same.

She mentally shook the thoughts from her head hearing the buzz of her phone. Of course it was him, and it brought an instant smile to her face. It won't come to that, she reassured herself as she replied back. 'Hey babe I'll be there soon. Right back at yah.' She giggled to herself before pocketing her phone and doing one last check in the mirror before walking out the door. It didn't take her long at all to get to the center, so she took out her phone again to scroll through her timeline fully expecting him to be there any second.

It wasn't surprising when she hear his voice ringing in her ears, as his hands found their way to her wait. There wasn't a more safe and welcoming feeling in the world then being wrapped up in his arms. She gladly returned the kiss smiling the whole time, while gently resting her hands on his cheeks before he pulled away, "Oh really? Then how else am I supposed to make my man feel like the luckiest man alive?" She hummed playfully.

His next words should've been, but weren't a surprise to her. Knowing her boyfriend she should've worn comfortable shoes. "Oh really? I guess with the handicap of this skirt you MIGHT win." She spoke pulling off her boots. "But just know if I beat you still, you owe me a snacks all night." She giggled pressing her shoes gently into his chest for him to hold before jetting off with a smirk. Luckily she always wore shorts under her skirts because once again she knew her boyfriend.

The weather was perfect. Jett was itching to go outside just to practice soccer before he would consider himself rusty. Unfortunately for him, it was homecoming today and he wasnt particularly excited about it. He hadn't asked anyone because of two reasons. The first is because he was too preoccupied to even think about it. The second reason is because he figured by the time he had remembered about homecoming everyone would probably have a partner to go with by then. Why would he humiliate himself by asking someone who was already going with someone else? He wasnt that pathetic. He didnt even want to go at the end of the day,but his friends convinced him that it could give him inspiration for his future projects (also the pregaming caught his attention.)

No matter if he tried to get out of going his friends were not leaving his door until he came outside. Banging and chanting his name. Jett reluctantly grabbed his keys and hopped into his friends car to go to the tailgate. "C'mon Jett cheer up and look like you want to be here!" His friend Christopher said. Jett rolled his eyes and replied with
"Its hard to do that when I dont have alcohol in my system yet boys"

After the drive was over Jett had managed to down 3 beers in the back of his friends grey Toyota Camry. He was fine with social settings for the most part IF he wanted to go. He just felt like he was going to look like the black sheep of his friend group. Jett decided to roam around, ditching his friends who were chatting with their dates for later, when he lightly bumped into someone. He turned to say he was sorry and realized the girl in front of him. Big curly hair and soft brown eyes, he couldn't mistake her for anyone else. "Lisa? My bad, I-uh wasn't expecting to see you here" he told her. Now she was someone who was on his mind from time to time. He figured she had a date already so he didn't even try to ask or be forward about it. He didn't like rejection much and figured keeping her close as a friend was good enough for now. "Are you here with anyone? Like a real person I mean, not imaginary" he said jokingly with a laughed, hoping she'd find his comment amusing.

Amy excitedly returned the hug and laughed at the comment, "You and me both. At this rate next year we're gonna need to invest in a megaphone." She giggled playfully nudging her. She threw her hands up in the air excited at her friends response, "Yes! I'm so happy to hear that cause I have to stay until the game is over and I didn't wanna stay alone." Though in a crowd this size you can hardly consider yourself alone. Not to mention when you're on the cover of magazines it's not hard to find random people who'd wanna talk to you, and hang out just for the chance at a photo.

But spending time with some rando was not Amy's idea of fun. "I don't know what party we're going to afterwards, but if you don't have plans tomorrow you should join us. Chances are at some point he's gonna be whisked away with the other players for shots or something." she playfully rolled her eyes. She didn't mind the partying of Remi and his teammates. She had grown to casually like some of them even. Perhaps it's because this time they were in a better place relationship wise then when they'd arrived as freshmen.

"Anyways, which tent should we hit up first? I don't think I have to pop into the Zeta tent until later." she chimed linking her arm with Ori's and began walking.

Jordy’s heart did a double take hearing her response, and he couldn’t help the slow grin that crept up his face. She wasn’t brushing him off. In fact, it sounded like maybe she was just as confused as he was, which weirdly made him feel a little more grounded, like they were on the same page even if it was a messy one. He kept his eyes forward, though his thumb instinctively brushed against the back of her hand, a subtle reassurance. There was a part of him that was trying to figure out what to say, how to not mess this up, but the other part of him just wanted to be honest for once—no cameras, no pretending, just him and her.

“Look,” he started, voice a bit quieter now, like he was letting her in on a secret. “I get that this whole thing was supposed to be… you know, for show. But if I’m bein’ real with you, Stella, I’ve been kinda enjoying all this way more than I thought I would.” He shot her a quick sideways glance, the corner of his mouth quirking up. “I mean, you’re smart, you’re fun, you challenge me… and I know I’m supposed to just be the arm candy here, but damn, I like the time we spend together.”

He let that hang in the air for a moment, hoping she didn’t think he was some sap for saying it. The guys would give him hell if they heard this, but he couldn’t care less right now. It was just them walking side by side, no flashing lights, no staged smiles. “And yeah, maybe we started off as strangers, but I don't think we are anymore, not really.” He squeezed her hand again, this time more deliberate, a little firmer, like he was trying to make a point. “I don’t know about you, but I’m not really good at the whole fake friends thing. If I’m around someone this much, I wanna actually *know* them, you know?”

He stopped walking for a second, turning to face her fully, their hands still intertwined. The sounds of the tailgate party buzzed around them, but it felt like they were in their own little bubble. “So when I say team, I’m talkin’ about somethin’ more than just friends. I’m talkin’ about... I don’t know, maybe seeing where this could go? Like, not just for the cameras.”

He paused, reading her expression, trying to gauge what she was thinking. “But only if that’s what you want too,” he added quickly, his voice a little softer now, almost hesitant. “I’m not tryin’ to mess with your plans or complicate things, but I guess what I’m sayin’ is… if this could feel real, maybe we owe it to ourselves to see if it actually 'is'.” He gave a small, almost nervous laugh. “What do you think, Stella? You wanna just keep playin’ pretend, or… you think maybe we could try bein’ more than just a PR stunt?”

Jordy flashed her a grin, trying to keep things light, but he couldn’t ignore the feeling that maybe he wasn’t the only one starting to wonder if this thing between them was more than just PR.

T
here weren’t two dissimilar days for Miles. Everything was customarily the carbon copy day, particularly when you drink yourself to incompetent perceptiveness. Or smoke to where everything resembles a humorous prank, where you don’t quite fathom the genuine shit. Which was Miles' resolution from the inception of his drinking, and smoking occurrences. Contemplating and critiquing his thoughts were something he hadn’t needed. The mere recognition of his prevailing predicaments with his family had been so overwhelming to Miles, that he’d rather smoke, or drink the thoughts elsewhere.

Hide amongst the ever so warm blanket of sarcasm, and the actions of an oblivious individual. His silhouette lounged upon a lawn chair outside the dormitory. People knew Miles, his sarcasm and avenue regarding life, at least with his exhibiting fortunes, and it seemed to make him popular. However one could interrogate, were they joking with Miles, or at him? It hadn’t influenced Miles either way, the only thing he desired was to forget. If he could get so drunk, or so high that he didn’t reproduce past events, you could chuckle at him for days and he wouldn’t give a shit. However, he tended to retort with his own degree of offensive sarcasm that had a perception of actuality attached to it. A negligible ‘fuck you’ to his haters with his sarcastic retaliations, while not giving a fuck.

Miles truthfully wasn’t thoroughly cognizant of what was going on. Undoubtedly something was trending, and his ‘gang’ had suggested something was buzzing and seemed like a football game, or something fairly comparable to that. He was still waiting on his Popeye’s chicken from that analysis form he participated in. An additional oblivious scene for Miles. Individuals messaging about aimless shit that he wasn’t thoroughly understanding. There were secondary occasions when Miles would assess all that was going on and subconsciously discuss with himself that he needed to be more clear-headed. But then recollect with himself as to why he’s drinking, or why he’d smoke.

Nonetheless, he sat there, students roaming by weren’t even phased by Miles being outside ‘chillin'.’ They comprehended Miles was being Miles. But as Miles had unconsciously peered off into space. Thinking genuinely about nothing a silhouette neared that, as he engaged them like a camera coming into focus, he distinguished whom it was
“Oh shit, I know you”
He expressed as a subject of truth
“The fuck you doin' here?”
He inquired, rationalizing amongst his inner dialogue ‘Who the fuck was this person again?’ and ‘shit, I know, I know this bitch.’ His eyes conveyed elsewhere for a concise moment, murmuring words amongst himself.
“Gin and Tonic… Generation… Jumanji, fuck”
Then his visage gave off the impression that a light bulb hit
“Genesis! Sup girl, how have you been?”

Miles definitely had vacated the thought that he had told Genesis to come pick him up.

GM POST NO CODE BECAUSE IM HIM

Homecoming was a tradition as old as the game of football. It celebrated the football team and the supporters of the school. For an HBCU though? It was more like an intimate family reunion where not only you partied with the people you went to class with but maybe you had some alums in your family or other families. Hell, maybe you were Miss Black and White 98 and you're at the tent with the rest. Maybe you're an AKA from SPR 15 and you're hanging out with the rest of your sorors. DIDN'T MATTER. It was family, food, fun, and drinks. But at the center of that? It was the football game.

Dubois was a unicorn among HBCU. They had figured out a long time ago how to keep black basketball talent home. How to convince them they'd have all the amenities and coaching and could get to the league if they came and kept their promise and led to a couple of NCAA titles (men and women) to elevating the program up to D-1 and as apart of the SEC and once they got in the door their baseball program followed, but now it was time to get their football program.

That started with Moses King, the first 5 star football player ever to commit to Dubois with the promise of bringing rings to Dubois and ever since then the top rated players came rolling in with Remi Michel being the first 5 star qb to ever commit and so on. They went through their rough patches, but Remi was a Red Shirt sophomore, Moses a senior and they had a few other star players like Malik Sims. They were undefeated to start the year so far 7-0 and this game should be no different for them. They were playing Tuskegee, and though historically Skegee was one of the better HBCUs in football, they were no where close to Dubois.

So the Friday before the game was the homecoming parade. They had the cars for Miss and Mister Black And white and their attendings. They had famous alum in it, the band the whole 9. The yearly talent show went off on Wednesday, the hip hop concert thursday, and the neo-soul/r&b concert friday.

The game went well, the first half saw what you'd expect. Remi went 10-12 for 256 yards, 2 touchdowns and 45 more on the ground with a score, getting Moses the ball for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Malik Sims had 123 yards on the ground (with a run of 85 yards for a touchdown) and shaid had 85 yards. Even the defense got in on it with Hakeem Clayton forcing a fumble on a strip sack and Levi Houston taking it to the house. The score was 35-0 at the half and it wasn't worse because they used every bit of a second of the playclock trying to not embarass them.

At halftime they acknowledge a lot of people, including introducing the homecoming court and their escorts while the only close competition was the bands, Tuskegee's band seemed to be a little better.

The rest of the game went on with Nico in and he finished 23-29 and 275 yards and 2 touchdowns.

After that, a quick team debrief and the players were let free to wreak havoc at tailgate.

What a whirlwind of a week for Lisa that culminated into such a glorious thing, watching her sister win the Miss Black and White Crown. If they were being honest, neither of them really expected her to win. She kind of just entered to make connections and get eyes on her. Even the idea of wearing a dress gave her sister shivers because she rarely did, but she powered through. Now look at her Miss Black and White. Oh how was she happy for her elder sister.

What neither of them knew was everything else that came with it. The speaking engagements, the appearances, the parade and yeah technically Lisa didn't have to show up or do any of those things, but she was a supportive sister and for the most part, she was the only one there who could. Their parents (all three of them) flew out for the parade and the game, but Lisa was there by herself for everything else.

So as much as she loved her sister, she was over waking up at the butt crack of dawn. Their parents were going to be at the game to support her, Lisa was going to sleep in. And that's exactly what she did, waking up at around 11 before she looked over to her clock and smiled. She stretched her arms out and listened to the empty apartment that she and her sister shared before reveling in the calmness. There wasn't much to be done, so she made an espresso and some tea sat down and drank both. Made sure to drink pretty of gatorade to stay hydrated for later and there her phone went off. Everyone blowing her up asking her where she was or telling her how amazing her sister is and blah blah.

She couldn't help but roll her eyes. Their entire lineage was great, duh. So after a simple shower, she got ready for the tailgate. She decided to go Solo though, until her sister was done with her engagements and could just be her regular big sister and party together. So for now, she grabbed her backpack and stuffed it with sake and beer and japanese whiskey and though Jesus, I get I'm half japanese but this is a little too on the head...right? So she grabbed some hennessey and zipped her bag up, before heading to the tail gate.

There she swam through the crowd before someone ran into her, for the tenth time mind you, and so outside of a glance she intended to ignore them, but stopped when she recognized the voice and face,
“I bet you’ve never eaten at a single place on campus.”

She puffed her cheeks before huffing, and raising a brow,
“You didn't expect me...to be...at the place where almost the entire student body plus alumni plus random celebrities, family, friends and others guests? Do you hear yourself?”
her tone was bone dry and sarcastic before she shook her head chuckling.

“You know Perry is very offended you don't consider him a real person, Imaginary people have feelings too.”
she laughed before shaking her again,
“By myself until my sister finishes up with her Miss Black and White stuff, but if you want to tag along you have to keep up!”
and without even giving him a chance to respond she started walking through the crowd again, looking for the international tents section.

Jett couldn't help, but laugh at her attempt to be sarcastic. His tongue poked the inside of his cheek before speaking. "I do hear myself. I love hearing myself talk, it brings me great joy in fact" he snickered. His brown eyes scanned her bouncing raven hair and the melanin in her skin. He wondered what her hair felt like through his fingers. He wondered if her skin was as soft as it looked..It almost made him stumble on his words, but he had to try not to make a fool out of himself at least for a little bit. For as long as she would allow herself to talk to him.

Jett raised his eyebrow and looked around.
"Perry huh? Interestingname..my apologies, Perry"
he laughed. He almost forgot who had won since he was never really in-tune with that kind of stuff. It never really interested him to be the center of attention in a social setting. Now in soccer? That was a different field.

It wasn't until she started walking through the crowds that he had to make the choice to either stay and be bored out of his mind or chase after her and see what happens. His feet started to move before his mind could be made up. He was right behind her laughing. "You never cease to surprise me" he mumbled, not sure if she heard him through the bustling crowd. His fingers grabbed her shirt lightly so that they wouldn't be separated. He would've held her hand or something else, but he wasn't that bold. He could never think to do those things. He makes people laugh. He jokes with many. Basically a walking friend zone at that point.

"What are you looking for anyway? The exit?" He joking said as they passed through groups of people. He felt like he was a lost puppy being dragged around by Lisa, but he didn't mind one bit. He would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy it.

That whole drive already had her pissed off, then she pulled up to see that there was nowhere to park. She saw bodies everywhere and her eye twitched when the bass vibrated her whole car. "Ain' no fuckin' way DuBois got a homecoming goin' on right now." She pulled her phone out of her pocket, even more annoyed that she had to fidget for it. A sigh of realization left her lips when she checked the date. Eventually she decided to get out of the car.

The music intensified when she left her car and all she could see was a sea of tents and people. At least their homecoming seemed less shitty than her last school. She had barely made it 20 steps from her car and had shoulder checked at least five rude ass people. She had every intention of being a little more friendly this time around but that was already off to a bad start. Every stare she got, she stared back with whatever energy they were giving her. In hindsight, the glances were probably due to the fact that everyone was done up and she just pulled up in sweatpants, slides, and a wife-beater.

The more she moved through this crowd, the more she needed to smoke. She could smell it a little bit so she knew it was around here somewhere. She reached the most dense portion of the crowd, where everyone seemed to want to stop in the fucking walkway, looking to her left to see a very familiar pink and green color combo. One she only knew because of the most toxic woman she had ever met in her life. "I know good and hell well.." She trailed off, her feet subconsciously carrying her over to the tent.

She knew who it was before she even fully reached the tent. "I could see that forehead all the way from my car." She eyed her head to toe, glancing at the people around her. She looked exactly the same from the last time Saige had seen her. They ended abruptly and somewhat on good terms. It more of a fling than anything else so there was really no need for a formal breakup, they just went their separate ways. Or at least that's how Saige saw it.
