The Growing Storm (1906 rp)

Keidivh Keidivh . Haven't been able to find a specific date or year aside from what you've reported. It appears to me that the United States had 14 Months since the declaration of war, a little over a year, to develop, mass produce, and somewhat commonly issue body armor and improved steel helmets to approximately 20k-30k (closer to 20k) troops. I can find that factoid for you if you want.

The reason I say that is because I believe General said there's a 2 year tech cap, which I took as meaning we can only research things that were developed/produced 2 years ahead of us :p otherwise we could begin researching tanks now

Also if you could that'd be great! Partly cause I love WW1 and learning new things about it always interests me :p

I think the British/possibly the French (there was this Frenchie who had a similar idea but was rejected) are the only ones allowed to at this point. I heard the Germans had a guy themselves who floated the idea.

Isn't the concept a bit different? Body armor isn't conceptually new. It isn't even new technologically. Only thing left to do is to improve upon what already exists. It isn't like the idea of a tank. Tell somebody about a tank in 1906 and you'll be sent to the looney bin. Tell somebody about body armor in 1906 and you'll be just as sane as anybody else in the world.

Well I think tanks are kinda just out right now until midwar period, simply because once tanks enter trench warfare is completely fucked. So that's off the table until we've suffered a coupe years in the trenches

And its tricky. Body armor did exist, but not the kind that could practically protect from bullets. It seemed like a lot of the armor was plate armor/scale. So it would be heavy, expensive and impractical. It'd probably take time to develop into something practical. That's why I want to ask the General how we should go about it, it is in existence, but practical body armor isn't. So can we just develop that now or no :p

Understood. This'll be my last post on the subject, I apologize if this conversation has been bothering you.

I never stated body armor of this era was bulletproof. Perhaps against pistols, revolvers, and stray buckshot. It's main purpose would be to decrease artillery and mortar casualties. Some body armor was nothing more than leather and cloth. The topic varies too greatly to be summed up in three general statements, and I think only the few truly ridiculous designs for body armor of time truly were expensive, heavy, and as you put it, impractical.

No need to apologize, I enjoy talking about this!

And aye, that's true, most armor, especially helmets were designed to protect from shrapnel. I just can find very little regarding body armor in that era besides the more over the top stuff.

Either way General can let us know if he's cool with us using body armor now.

I'll only change my uniforms around 1909, while I prefer the Fez and Blue Service tunic these are easier to mass produce and blend in better in the field.

The point of the tank was because no one was making any kind of progress in the trench warfare. No ones going to be able to think of the idea of a "tank" until then. Also I'll start doing turns and events later today

We were actually wondering about body armor to arm our troops with, could that be developed now?

Technically the idea of primitive tanks existed. It was just everyone thought the concept was ridiculous until the realities of wartime needed something to break through nigh-impenetrable trenches.

And aye it was a concept, but unfortunately not one pursued until millions were dead xP

Suppose I should have clarified the Reich is no longer deporting ethnic minorities xP May have not been clear on that
