Haruhi Suzumiya
An Adorable Entity
"Hello, everyone!" The Game Master's voice chimes in. "Welcome to the Gauntlet Challenge of 2014! I'm your host, the Game Master - First things first, I'll explain a few things. This will be a competition to the death, meaning being competitive is vital. Be savage if you must, but keep in mind that you might do well to help your teammate and the other teams rather than hinder them. After all, you can't do this alone. I promise you, you can't. This doesn't mean, however, that you should trust the other teams. Trusting them could mean death, and death means losing. I expect at least one of the teams to die - Yes, at least. At worst, or best if you're sadistic, everyone could die."
"Now, for your, er, attire. Had to cut corners with time, so you were put into your uniforms by machines, seeing as all of you came here asleep! 'Couldn't wait for you to wake up and change, so. Lastly, for what you're going to be doing here - You have to get through seven 'gauntlets', which are sets of challenges posed to each of you. Think Survivor or Wipeout when I say that, but with a little more pizazz. Up ahead are challenges that need you to be at your smartest, at your strongest, at your fastest, at your luckiest, even."
"How will you hold up? 'Can't be sure, but I guarantee that one of you is going to be out of here by Gauntlet Two. And I don't mean escape."
As all four teams walk out onto the beginning platform, a long and thin steel platform suspended above water with the entry door behind it and the first Gauntlet up ahead, the Game Master started his explanation.
"Now, here's our first set of challenges - For each Gauntlet there's three sets of challenges and one extra challenge. The extra challenge will have a treasure chest at the end containing something that will help you - If you take a little detour to do the special challenge, you can win the one special award. Try to go quickly, though, because the last team to assemble at the end of the Gauntlet will receive a punishment! The first team to make their way to the end, whether they beat the extra challenge or not, they will be rewarded. So enough explanation - I'll explain as we go along, all right? Onward!"
"So here's your first set of challenges! They're all laid out before you - You can choose one of the following to go ahead. All right?"
Challenge 1, Set 1 - Pillar Hop
Jump from one pillar to the next to get to the next checkpoint! Don't think this is easy, however, because you'll be getting water balloons shot at you from a cannon! (Requires 6 Strength to endure without being knocked off balance)
Challenge 2, Set 1 - Tightrope
Like the Pillar Hop, but it's easier if you can balance! You won't need to handle water balloons, but you'll need to focus hard and balance really well to get across!
"Well, it's only two challenges. But this is the first set of challenges, so that's to be expected, right? I'm not giving you many choices to adjust you to the difficulty here!"
8 Gauntlets.
8 Players.
4 Boys,
4 Girls.
1 Victor.
Four teams of two were chosen to face off in a gauntlet challenge. The four boys and four girls chosen had no rhyme or reason to them - They were simply chosen for their teams at random, and were forcefully removed from their homes to be taken to the deadly competition. Whether they recall how they were taken or even their life before the competition purely depends on how hard they tried to escape capture...
The four teams - Red, Blue, Green and Yellow - Again, have no rhyme or reason to them. They were randomly selected, but they are fairly balanced - No team is guaranteed a win. One boy and one girl is on each team, and they must work together in order to win, or they will lose and die.
The event is not televised. Nothing of the competitors' lives before the events of the gauntlet challenge is brought to light by the game master, meaning if the players don't remember their lives, they may be destined to die not knowing who they are. Of course, one team will survive and return home... Unless everyone dies trying.
No specific knowledge of the obstacles ahead was told to the teams - Only that they would need to be in peak physical condition for the physical challenges and they would need to be very clever to handle the puzzles. However, some were not prepared (Or some lived unhealthy lives before being chosen), so they may not be capable enough.
Without further ado - Without further explanation - Let's begin the games!
This section will not be used for a map: Instead, it will be used for the character sheet and anything else important to share with you all. I'll add new things as new things become important.
~Character Sheet~
Name:
Gender:
Age:
Team: Red, Blue, Green or Yellow - Keep in mind your gender's spot for that team may be taken! Check before signing up!
Personality: Explain your character's personality here - Concise is nice
Appearance: 0'0, 000 lbs. (Replace this with character height and weight)
[insert picture here - Real-life preferred over animation - Keep Stats in mind for this picture! If your character has high Strength, your character should have visible muscles!]
Stats
Strength: 0/10
Intelligence: 0/10
Speed: 0/10
Finesse: 0/10
Gauntlet
An obstacle course with varying difficulty. It is typically nonlethal but themed with something bizarre. Gauntlets are the most frequently appearing room type, but the ones everyone must complete are usually easy enough to be possible. Gauntlets are usually unpredictable. Best suited to Speed characters.
Gamble
A game of pure luck, like a draw from a hat, will occur at random sometimes. It's usually at the end of another challenge and can be used for a Finesse character to redeem themselves if they lost or, if they won, assert their dominance, though as it's pure luck deciding who wins, Finesse characters may not win sometimes.
Exam
A puzzle, usually scaled up to the size of the players or even bigger. Sometimes it's not even a puzzle and is just a difficult problem that could be solved through logical means. These are unpredictable - They can be anything from a simple question to a 1000-piece human size puzzle. Intelligent characters have the easiest time with these.
Stalwart
A test of strength, sometimes mixing elements from Exams, creating things like block puzzles (Requires heavy blocks to be pushed, but also requires a bright mind to know where the blocks go). It could be anything, however, from pulling a car to a carnival game with a hammer.
For your character's stats, you may use 24 points - The average for most stats is 5, but you may remove points from a stat until it is at 1 if you wish to put points into another stat. It is not advisable to have stats at 1, however, because if you are alone and you need to get past a challenge requiring a stat to be high, you may be stuck until another team comes by - If they ever do come by...
Strength is your raw physical power. It dictates how strong your character is and whether they can move heavy things, destroy things more easily and do more impressive physical feats. It does not dictate speed, however.
Intelligence is, in its most basic form, how smart your character is and whether or not they can figure out how to solve a puzzle or not. People with higher Intelligence are better at devising strategies. Average Intelligence would be about 4/10 - Anything below 4/10 would make all puzzles difficult.
Speed is how fast your character can move and, to a slight degree, how quickly they can think. Characters with high Speed can dodge attacks more easily and perform actions more quickly. Speed is far from necessary in the Gauntlet Challenge, but it's very useful if you're neck and neck with someone and need to finish that extra second faster.
Finesse dictates one's aim, luck and, well, finesse. Someone with high Finesse is likely to hit targets more often, get better odds in games of chance and look good doing whatever they're doing - Which, if it pleases the Game Master, can help you out a lot, as doing well and looking good while doing so is the easier way to get support from the Game Master.
Oh my God, someone's reading the rules! I didn't know people even took these seriously anymore!
1. Read the whole description and maps section! Since you actually took the rules seriously... *Leaves laptop to laugh a bit* You probably did, but if you didn't, please do.
2. Keep in mind this roleplay's rating, and that this is a death game, not smutfest 2014. Thank you.
3. Don't control your team's other character or anyone's character but your own, and don't play God. Follow your stats, please.
4. NO ONE LINERS OR I WILL EAT YOUR THROAT.
5. Don't try to be perfect! Your character will be bad at something, at least.
6. If you didn't read the rules, I'll know. Trust me.
7. If you have to ask if it's a rule, it probably is. (Don't be a smartass about this rule, please!)
