MYUU
overview.
He doesn't hate you!" Carrie reassured, her delicate fingers loosely placed around the steering wheel. The soft crunching of snow sounded from outside; white flecks landing on the land cruiser's windscreen.
"You're kidding, right? He shook my hand like I was your bloody co-worker last time." Ophelia explained and Carrie knew it followed with her wife's signature eye-roll.
"My dad did the same with my ex, I promise you. He adores you." Glancing over to Ophelia, she looked breath-taking as usual; a plum turtleneck snug against her dark complexion. Her bouncy mane framing her heart-shaped face.
God, I love you. Carrie smiled at the thought.
"Mhm, sure he did." Ophelia huffed. Her wife had a habit of overthinking everything but if Carrie was honest, she loved her for it. They would of left Nina's stuffed dog plushie behind if it wasn't for her always being two-steps ahead. Maybe more like ten.
Eyes back on the road, Carrie snaked her left hand until it found the familiar place in Ophelia's soft hand. Interlocking fingers, Carrie spotted the freshly-painted sign, a Christmas wreath pinned underneath:
WELCOME TO CAMPTON FALLS.
Before Carrie could reassure her further, a high-pitched whine sounded, "are we there yet?"
In the reverse mirror she spotted the source, their young daughter who was almost swallowed up by the backseat; her striking green eyes not glued to the tablet in front of her for once. Why did Ophelia's mother have to buy her that darn thing. She barely left the house without it.
"Well honey, we just got to your grandparent's town! So...not far now, right Care?" Ophelia's voice rung.
"That's right. Your grandparents live near the mountain, so only a few more minutes." Carrie replied.
"Can I build a snowman? Please! I'll wear my gloves this time, please!" Little Nina begged, those infamous puppy-eyes staring at Carrie in the mirror. A red Santa hat was drooped over her carefully-braided hair.
"Yes, yes, yes, of course, honey. You'll need to wear another coat too, it is really coldโ" Ophelia was interrupted by the screeching of the car's tires that harmonised with Nina's screams.
Snow flew up against the windows in a flurry. Carrie's fingers going white against the steering wheel.
Oh my god...Carrie's heart was pounding. The car was only a metre or two away from what alarmed her.
"What the fuck, Care!" Ophelia swore, "you could ofโ" The car went silent apart from their daughter's wailing. Ophelia must of seen it too.
A fiery wreck was to the side of them, flames claiming the upturned car. The clear sky was dirtied by the rising plume of black smoke.
Yet that isn't what made her stop.
A deep, sickly red painted the once white snow, trailing to the middle of the road.
A crumpled body laid atop the red snow, one of the legs at an impossible angle. Carrie swore she could see bone jutting out of his leg.
Her throat burnt with bile. Squeezing her wife's hand hard, she fought back the urge.
A woman was hunched over him, her face pressed against his neck. Was she crying?
The car door clicked open.
"O-Ophelia, what a-are you doing?" Carrie stammered as her wife climbed out of the car.
Her own hand now empty, laying on Ophelia's warm seat.
"Hello, are you alright, ma'am?" Ophelia's voice full of concern and seemingly ignoring Carrie โ unless she didn't hear her?
The woman was unresponsive.
Something is wrong. This isn't right. The woman's hands...were digging at something.
"I'm a paramedic, can you tell me what happened? I can help, okay? Is he breathing?" Ophelia stepped closer to the grieving woman.
Grieving may of been the wrong word as she spun around. Carrie could only stare in horror at the woman's state.
Blood and chunks of flesh clung to her mouth, dripping down her chin. The source being from the man's chewed-out neck.
Her eyes were the most startling part. Carrie could only describe them as crazed.
Before anyone could react she lunged for Ophelia. A scream followed as the bloody hands gripped her ankle.
"Mummy, what is happening!" Nina screamed, her throat must of been raw at this point.
No time to waste, Carrie leapt from her seat.
"Stay in the car!" Carrie roared.
Frantically opening the door, she went to her wife's rescue.
Christmas music feverishly played in the distance, yet struggled to drown out the screams of the young couple and their daughter.
Yet they weren't alone.
Other screams and commotion echoed throughout the snowy and peaceful town of Campton Falls. Each told a story of human suffering and of the horrific happenings that had befallen the town.
This was the end of days and for most this would be their final winter alive.
hello! if you got this far I'm guessing you're mildly interested! name's idiot or connor and I'm in the mood for a good ol' zombie roleplay. if you're still interested, read the other tabs and if this seems like your jam - why not express your interest? if enough people express their interest I'll make the relevant threads! until then, if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask (once you've read everything of course).

campton falls
setting
Welcome to the once sleepy town of Campton Falls! Situated deep in the Canadian forests, Campton had humble beginnings as a lumber and fishing village which kept the town and it's 1,283 residents afloat. However, thanks to the exposure of social media, Campton became a tourist destination with it's picturesque views, peaceful atmosphere and mostly welcoming community. Since then the town's population (a modest 3,319) has exploded with numerous renovations and land being sold to developers (looking to capitalise on the success) and homeowners alike. An odd mix of old and new, it isn't uncommon to find a homely log cabin that has stood the test of time nestled next to a brand-new, modern restaurant. Most locals have welcomed the influx of revenue and visitors that make the trek to Campton Falls for numerous reasons โ to getaway from the hustle and bustle, honeymoons and writers block. Yet, the busiest time of the year is the Holiday season with Campton always being covered in thick, pillowy snow and surrounded by pine trees that seemingly awakens anyone's Christmas spirit. The year 2022 was no different, with people travelling to Campton Falls for an unforgettable Christmas.
early days
infection
Most zombie roleplays focus on the apocalypse a few years later, which is cool but I want to focus on the initial infection. The confusion, chaos and trauma it causes is very interesting to me and can create some profound moments for our characters to grow, learn or...succumb. As such, the initial infection will begin in line with the roleplay. This isn't to say there was no headlines in the news which had bizarre stories and sightings. However, commercialism always prevails with the news outlets and government bodies trying their best to bury the stories since the Holiday period was around the corner. Can't have shoppers too scared to leave their homes can we?
the dead
zombies
Considering we are just entering the end of days, I'd like to keep this brief and for our characters to discover. What I will share is the initial infection. It is currently unknown how the virus transmits but they initially seem to fight against it as though being possessed, with some persevering longer than others. Those who do succumb will find themselves in a deranged and crazed state. A frenzy of adrenaline leading to feats of optimal speed and pain tolerance. One might describe it as primal instincts as they attack non-infected individuals.
While I'd love to tell you the rest about their pathology, the creation of the virus and other aspects, I'll keep my mouth zipped. Plus this is mostly what our characters will be dealing with in the early days. However, I will say both the climate and time will lead to the infected individuals becoming slower (fast shambling).
the living
characters
For me there is nothing more compelling than watching everyday people thrown into unordinary situations. Our characters will represent these 'everyday people' in a diverse cast of survivors who were thrust into this horrific situation. No one was prepared for this and it will show. I want our characters to struggle and fail but also to persevere and have moments of both comradery and betrayal. Humans are complicated beings and I want this roleplay to reflect that.
More information will be provided about these survivors and character applications if enough interest is garnared.
the story
plot
At first glance the story is quite straightforward, with the focus being on the survivors of Campton Falls (both locals and visitors alike). However, the story doesn't start and finish in Campton Falls and will eventually lead to other areas. Not to sound like some video-game producer but the world is living, breathing and reactive to the actions of all player's characters. I have no interest with the world being a mere backdrop. In the background, factions and groups will be forming and present unique challenges to our characters.
I would classify this roleplay as a hybrid of sandbox/open-world and linear storytelling. While your characters are welcome to do as they please, there is specific moments that will most likely occur. I enjoy open-world roleplays but find that they have no clear objective and struggle to keep the characters in one place and interacting. Therefore, by mixing both into my approach of GM'ing, I hope to eliminate the pitfalls of both.
rules
rules.
rule one.
Sorry to all the underage role-players but I'd prefer everyone applying to be over the age of eighteen. One for comfortability but also for the themes I'm hoping to explore. This roleplay obviously features the usual death and gore but will also experience other dark themes (e.g., loss, trauma, morality, etc). The world will be a grim place with little successes.
rule two.
This roleplay is kind of application based but more relaxed (unless there is a huge number of applications). Therefore, if a character is posted and I think you could amp it up, I'm happy to workshop with you! I know everyone on here is amazing writers and I'd like to not exclude anyone. If I think your character's personality could be expanded upon, I'll tell you! I'm hoping for characters to be based in realism and to be compelling, diverse and complicated with their own drives and motivations. I don't want any stereotypes or over-used tropes. I'll expand on what is expected in the character creation if enough interest is garnered.
Down the line you're more than welcome to create more characters, your own NPCs and contribute to the roleplay's world. I'd love to explore character's arcs and have the roleplay's direction reflect that.
rule three.
Semi-advanced and onwards literature is welcomed and encouraged. I'm not expecting novellas (unless you want to) nor do I want one to two sentence replies. Mistakes happen and that is fine (I'm sure this interest check is riddled with them) but I'm hoping everyone is excited to write and put some effort into their posts. I want posts that delve into their character's thoughts and reactions to the world/events around them.
In terms of frequency, I'm hoping for all players to be able to post once a week (more is welcome). I would also love for all players to be active in the Discord server (yes discord is highly encouraged please) as I've found it facilitates the roleplay's stability.
rule four.
No god-modding or controlling other player's characters. This means I don't want your character being capable of wiping out an entire hoard of zombies with their bare hands or forcing a character's player to do as you want. Writing is meant to be collaborative so if you plan on doing something that will majorly impact another player's character, don't be afraid to consult them. On that note, if you want to have expansive conversations with another player's character, why not collaborate on a post behind-the-scenes!
rule five.
Now the usual stuff. I will not tolerate any bullying or bigotry out of character. It will not be ignored and if it cannot be resolved it will result in a player's removal. All RPN rules and regulations must be followed along with the one's outlined above.
