Benjamin quickly marked himself with an iratze, his cold hands grasping his stele tightly, thick black lines swirling out from
under its glowing end where he pressed it to his skin. He looked down and the thin gash was already disappearing, leaving
no trace behind other than a thin white scar. He placed his stele back on the shelf, and stood back up, racing back to the other
side of the room. He had scaled the large climbing wall multiple times, his arms burning slightly, and had fallen moments ago
when a chunk of rock broke off, and that chunk of rock happened to be his handhold. He could've easily leaped upwards, but
he figured he could use a bit of training in landing from as far up as he had been.

The training room of the Los Angeles institute was one of the few places where he felt the most himself, able to access the powers
given to him by the angel blood running through his veins, and the strength he had built over the years of strenuous training. He loved being a Shadowhunter, and it brought him great pride that he could say he truly was a warrior. Looking up at the clock on the far wall, Benjamin noticed it was later than he had thought, the clock's hour hand slowly approaching the one. He grabbed his weapons belt and placed it back on the bench, as he planned to return later. He snatched a knife out of the belt and whipped it
towards one of the many target dummies in the room, the knife flailing end over end before sinking itself into the forehead of the
dummy, sending small grains of sand to the floor. He smiled, and walked out of the training room.

He made his way through the corridors, bright sunlight streaming through the large windows. They offered a clear view of the sea,
and he loved watching and hearing the waves as he fell asleep at night. Taking multiple turns through the hallways, he made his
way into the kitchen to grab a quick meal, his stomach rumbling.

As the morning sun fixed its rays on the balcony that hovered above the Los Angeles Institute's entrance, Alexandra Havenstride's ragged breathing could be heard over the coastal breeze rolling by. Though they were a small ways out from the shore, the air was salted and chill all the same. Lexi's arms were struggling to keep up with her mettle, wobbling after a hundred or so push ups. It was like this every morning. Stretching, squats, crunches, all manner of variation on these to make them harder. Speeding up time and reps. It was the only way, she told herself every bleary-eyed six a.m., that she could be sure of the power she had. The runes, the angel blood, it all meant nothing. She was only as good as the body she moved in. It had to be ready, preened, judicious in hand to hand combat. Relying on Shadowhunter blood---relishing in it---that was for people like Benjamin.

Ah, Benjmain. Another reason she trained so hard in her room every morning. He was always in the practice rooms at this hour, swinging from landscapes and using his stele generously. She used to train around him, even with him sometimes, unable to make sense of their sparring matches. Each one pushed her limits. She questioned herself after every battle. Their fighting styles were opposite, yes, but they seemed to draw from each other.
A terrifying dependance, in Alexandra's eyes. And so she fills her mornings this way.
Straining to the final push up, Lexi finally relaxed her body, collapsing on the floor in a consuming breath. Laying for a minute with nothing but the sound of her rattling chest and the tickle of wind across her exposed back, her mind relinquished its rumination in exchange for exhausted peace. Slowly pulling her elbows up, Lexi evened her breath before hopping to her feet. She shook her arms off, shifting her weight between her legs. Her stomach rumbled, reminding her of the most essential part to each morning routine. Food.
She pulled a sweatshirt over the sports bra she already had on, tightening the bun she'd placed her hair in, and bounded off for the kitchen. Having the route down by muscle memory, she didn't even think as her legs took her down hallways and around corners, half-sprinting to her destination. Just as she rounded the final corner before the kitchen entrance, a body collided with her. Thud! The force knocked her to the side, but she regained her balance in the blink of an eye, instinctively reaching out to steady whatever she'd bumped into. "I'm so sorry!" On her face was a sheepish grin, until she registered the person in front of her. "Oh," her grin fell. She eyed him over once, noticing the sweat on his neck and forehead. "Don't suppose you are also on your way to get a post-work out snack?"

Benjamin grinned and made sure she was steady, his forehead damp with sweat. “Quite possibly,” he said, winking and walking past her into the kitchen. He opened a cabinet, grabbing the nearest thing he could find, which happened to be a small bag of crackers. He opened them, placing one in his mouth as he seated himself at a barstool, resting his large, powerful arms on the dark countertop.

He eyed Lexi, covered in sweat and red in the face. He quirked a brow, and swallowed.
“Now, where did the wonderful Lexi just come from?” he asked, his voice hinting at a tone of sarcasm. They had been close growing up, but they grown apart in the past few years. They fought together well, but they were not the best of friends. Knowing her, she must have been training by the water. He made his way to the fridge, grabbing a water bottle and leaning his large body on the fridge, raising his arm over his head.

He smiled, and took a large sip out of the bottle, waiting patiently for an answer.

His effortless demeanor already irritated her. She rolled her eyes as he left her in his wake, heading into the kitchen, but she followed him in without missing a beat. As he crossed over to a nearby cabinet, Alexandra found herself noticing how much he'd changed since they first met. The young boy she'd befriended had been replaced by a formidable Shadowhunter, and Lexi couldn't help but wonder if their friendship had been a dream. She tried not to think about how close they'd been growing up, telling herself that people change and he'd changed for the worse.

She noted his sarcasm, firing back with a tone of her own. "Wonderful? I'm flattered." Crossing over to the fridge, she put her hand on the door and gave Ben an expectant look. He would have to move in order for her to open the door. "I came from a training session, same as you. Although," she paused, a languid smirk dawning on her face, "I wasn't relying on runes to do all of the work for me." She pulled the fridge door open, taking out a water bottle of her own and unscrewing the top slowly, gently closing the door with her knee.

Standing next to him now, Lexi had to crane her neck to make eye contact with him. "Planning on going back to the training rooms today?" She was asking, of course, because they both knew that the Institute had planned an outing for their students tonight. It would be empty and quiet here.

Ben smiled. "It's a good thing I wasn't either, then."

He tilted his head down, staring into Lexi's eyes. He took another sip of the water, nodding slowly. "Maybe. S'posed to be quiet here."

Benjamin ran his hand through his long, dark, hair, sighing lightly. "You?" He finished off his water and tossed it in the garbage, and leaned against the doorway. He thought of heading to the water for a few hours, to relax on the sand and jump through the waters. He turned to Lexi, and smiled. “I’m heading to the water. Want to join me?”

He didn’t wait for a response, but walked out, making his way through the corridors to the entrance of the Institute, opening the doors and crossing the street to the ocean.
