It was inevitable. With the rate at which technology was advancing, combined with the rate at which the desire for perfection was increasing, physical engineering in the form of alterations could not be prevented. Now that time has come. A time where genetic manipulation is not only a common everyday occurrence, but a worldwide hobby.
The world has changed. Everything is perfect. Everyone is perfect. Fed, wealthy, healthy, and well educated, but most importantly, everyone is beautiful. Thanks to critical advances in scientific research, everyone can now be anyone. When you reach the age of ten, you are officially able to choose how you would like to present yourself to the rest of the world. You can change and alter every last detail of your exterior body. Quite literally, you build yourself from the toes up. But…we could always go further, right? Normalcy was just too…normal. People began to want more. They needed more. It wasn’t long before the alternations became quite inhuman. But they were beautiful. Individuals could choose to have tiny little diamonds inserted into their iris’s to add that extra twinkle, they could add the smallest of electrical currents just beneath their skin so that when you touched, you literally felt the spark, eyelashes that glittered, hair that glowed, skin that was scented, hair that was patterned, kisses that were flavored…the possibilities were endless.
But just as they always do, people soon grew bored. They needed more.
It was always a competition. Who could be the first to do something new, something drastic, something shocking. Something that nobody else was doing. So when an extremely exclusive brand of alterations were released, and rumors spread of its rarity and limited availability, everyone suddenly had to have it. Serum Lux became the standard by which people were appraised. Either you were part of it, or you weren’t. And people would do anything to get their hands on it.
Only…something was wrong. People were getting sick. Either they would regain their health, returning to their normal state, or something else happened. Those who did not get better, got worse. Much worse. They began to have powers. Not the type of powers coveted by children reading comic books or watching movies. No, these were hardly powers at all. In fact, those who possessed them were deemed “Faders.” Each of these individuals suffered from their powers; they were self harming. The side effects varied from one individual to the next, but their adverse qualities remained consistent. No one truly understood the serum, nor its long term effects, therefore, the Faders were cast out of society. People feared that the effects of the serum were contagious. And that just wasn’t perfect at all.
A clear divide has grown between those who are sick, the Faders, and those determined to be normal, the “Pristine.” As for now, the Pristine highly outnumber the Faders of the world. But as Serum Lux continues to pass through cities, before the stories of its affects do, the Faders population is ever growing.
Rules and all that fun stuff:
1. No overpowered characters or godmodding.
2. No more than two characters please.
3. Proper grammar and punctuation is essential.
4. No one liners please, lets aim for at least a paragraph per post!
5. Semi-literate, at least!
6. Romance is welcomed.
7. All RPNation rules apply.
8. If you are not following the rules, are being down right rude to other participants, or anything else along those lines, I reserve the right to politely ask you to no longer participate.
