THE EXALTED ANIME

No, this isn't a thread about which anime should i watch to understand exalted, or which anime is more exalted than the others out there.

It's about this: let's say that WW decides to make an anime on exalted. What would you like to see in it? (features, events, characters, plot whatever)

Here's a few ideas

NON-canon characters, maybe a circle of mixed exalts.

A wyld hunt team co-starring (like Roy Mustang's team in Full Metal Alchemist)

One-man army (e.g a dawn caste vs an overwhelming number of opponents)

Chejop Kejak vs The Infernal Empress (or other ancient exalt Oh YEAAAH!)

Warstrider combat (a lot of it!)

Hmmm...I guess that's all for now. Any other uggestions?

I want naked chicks and explosions! Are you listening, WW?

It strikes me that such an anime would be pretty redundant, since exalted is just an amalgam of some of the bigger anime titles of the past 15 years. Anything an exalted anime could do, would already have been covered, better, by one of it's sources of inspiration.

However, not to be a spoilsport, I will say that if an exalted anime was to be made, I'd prefer for it to not focus on Solars.

Actually, every idea in the anime sources of exalted has or will be soon covered by another anime in a wider or better fashion. My point is, what would you like to see in it?

I think that the anime would kick ass if it shifted among the views of all exalts, not JUST Solars.

At least one scene with a Zenith Anima blowing the crap out of a horde of undead.

At least one scene of a Solar ripping apart a Warstrider--with his bare hands!

At least one scene of an Abyssal ripping apart a squad of Dragon Bloods/Dragon Kings/Alchemicals and giggling while they do it.

At least one Behemoth rising up and a Lunar getting jiggy with its ass.

Obligatory Anima blowing scenes that cause a stop in the action for at least five to ten seconds.

Stunts. Stunts. Stunts. Stunts. Mind blowing and just amazing Stunts. Like actually using a Seven Section Staff comes to mind--yeah, I want to see someone figure the physics out on that.

No! No! No!

Don't whack your furry stick too fast, old man. You might blow a seal.

Not in a million years...not in two...

After three they might evolve into something more appealing, or at less smelly...

The mental images accompanying that statement are many, and all of them are disgusting.

An on-topic post, then... I'd like to see:

Big-ass swords

Mass combat

Use of a Seven-Section Staff (hell, I'm waiting for Fearless to see the Three-Section variety in use)

Other Martial Arts insanity

A Circle that is not Perfect (Seems that most of the canon circles we see are Perfect Circles. I want to see a Circle - or Brotherhood, etc - that shows that there can be multiple viable concepts within one caste)

If an exalted based anime be made, i would like to see it from the view point of mortals, i.e. solars/lunars look like monsters, DB's look like lords... it would give an interesting look at the world i think

If they were to make an Anime of Exalted I would like to see truly a truly epic story. there would, of course be the obligitory massive armies clashing, stunt fests, and warstriders versus fying triremes. I would also like to see really good depictions of the buerocratic and diplomatic scenes. Like the scarlet pimpernell, the count of monte cristo, and the like.

LOL!!!

Yeah I can see a snake style martial artist doing this.

Battousai-  But what about the comic they've been making?  Do you think they're doing a poor job?

I would like for it to involve a storyline that takes into account the agendas of all the Exalted in such a way that justifies what they do, thus keeping the moral ambiguity very very gray.

I would really hope that it would follow game mechanics, (like Solars only using 1 Charm at a time  and show people spending time learning Combos), and when they use Charms have some on-screen text listing the Charm, but that can be put the SAP channel so people can turn it off if they want.

I like the idea of seeing it from different points of view, more then just the perspective of Johnny-goody-goody solar.  Have the anime reflect the tone of the source books and let the viewers understand the point of view and ideals of the characters.  There is very little clear good/evil in Exalted, just various shades of gray with a strong bias left over from the First Age.  Which brings up flashbacks.  Solars must have cool flashback scans.

at least 2 entire episodes focused on Regent fokufs bed chambers...

YOU HEAR ME WW?

I KNOW YOU CAN!!!!

oh.... I thnk using the Trilogy of the 2nd age for inspiration would be good...

it brings in all 5 major kinds of exalted... but ultimately focueses on the solars.

a big question is this...

want to play up the moral dillemna of the solar vs dragon blooded conflict?

or turn the solars into foul anathema trying to tear down creation, and the dragon blooded into its noble, but overwhelmed defenders.

Or the dragon blooded (those affiliated with realm at least) Into foul traitors who murdered their masters and the solars into the worlds rightful kings coming back to claim what is theirs

The novels compromise on that... though it seems to make it clear the solars are in the right... it makes the dynasts anything but inhuman.

Oh a sorcerous initiation.

And show several exaltions "on camera" (maybe in the opening sequence, which is a staple of anime, every episode?

and if it would fit in, one case of an abyssals redemption or a solars corruption.

Lenghy and greedy but thats all.

Actually, I think it'd be interesting to have five OVAs, six actually, for every major type of Exalted. Showing their views, way of life and so on. To supplement the series. If it ever happened.

I disliked thse books. the writing was bad. the plots were thin. while I do not regret reading them, they just are not that good.

So, let's recap:

A cast consisting of an imperfect Circle (mixed celestails mostly), let's say 3. They are alla conflicting personalities, each with his own agenda. Probably a Solar, a Lunar and a Sidereal. Thus, every side has its say. We have a moirally gray conflict.

A secondary main cast, consisting of a Wyld Hunt Team. The main character in this part is a dragonblooded officer that's fresh out of the academy and into the Hunt. He is thrown in with a few zealots, as he goes through Anathema-Hunting missions. The DB sees the Anathema as both a menace, but also takes a closer look at his companion's (and the Realm's) cruelty.

HUGE FRIGGIN BATTLES. But not spanning more than say, 2 or 3 episodes. Characters do awesome stuff, follow the rules. We get cg, stunts, choreography and a juicy aftermath. (I can almost picture the scene followin the battle of the Wyld Hunt vs a fairly young solar in a populated area. The Solar dies, but casualties measure in the hundreds)

YU-SHAN METAPLOT. We get to see the Big Heads (Chejop, Ura etc) play with the world.

UBER-ADVERSARIES. Equal amounts of Yozi, Deathlord and Fay thrown in the mix

CHARM UTTERANCE. Yes, the chars speak out the charm names before they let them fly. It would be a good idea to customize the names to fit each char's style.

MASS COMBAT. Bull vs House Tepet, anyone?

You want to know what I want to see?

LUNARS. Massive, teerming, roaring hordes of beastmen and barbarian mortals smashing over walls like a savage ocean while massive godbeasts just go fucking DESTROY on things. And watch as some puny Dragon-Blood tries to stop them and gets ripped limb from limb and eaten.

I want to see full fang of jade warstriders fighting one Orichalcum Royal, with the pilots saying all sorts of cool, crazy Gundam-esque fighting, and strange, interesting artifact weapons built into them.

I want to see Immaculates beating the PISS out of some errant spirits, as well as schooling monsters and Wyld mutants. In that vein, I want to see the raw anima damage of a Terrestrial slowly kill someone. Like they just start burning, or if it's a Wood, essence flowers begin to sprout from their skin, consuming the flesh to grow.

I want to see a scene where one Solar kills a THOUSAND MEN. Just flat out makes them dead.

And I want to see a wicked sorceror dual.

And that's what I want to see. For now.

I think Exalted would make a great Anime, but to capture its scope would be difficult indeed.

I propose something similar to the OAV idea: Each series of the anime has different protagonists.

First Series: Start pilot with a sworn brotherhood of DBs. I suggest legionnaires, with an opening much like Gladiator, with them finishing a campaign and then returning home. Once home, it is a shakedown in DB polotics, with epic duels, espionage and deciet. It ends with a cliffhanger about something really important, like the next emporer or the discovery of a Traitorous house.

Second Series follows perhaps a Siderial Circle, as they infiltrate this rival house or others and do their crazy stuff, but they encounter resistance from greater powers: Perhaps an abyssal is also going incognito, but neither may fight the other obviously so they must dance a political war. The end of the series sees the Abyssal casting something massive like "Sins of the Father" on Ragara or Mnemon, cursing an entire house and sparking civil war.

Third series goes to the Lunars themselves, as a young group of lunars must go on a quest for an elder, rallying the Silver Pact for their planned invasion upon the settled lands of the civilised. This series shows the Barbarians in a more compassionate light: people at one with their surroundings, eking a living out of blighted soil and harsh winters.

The protagonists must go on many subquests and tests in order to be allowed in the presence of the Elders. Perhaps later they encounter a Solar doing the same on behalf of the Bull of the North, or something. The series would have to end with a massive and incredible battle or else a wyld-hunt. A wyld hunt would be good.

The fourth series would be for the Solars themselves, and would follow a decent circle (NOT the theme circle, please! Although the comic one isn't bad) as they try to right an increasingly mad world. By now, the Lunar Host is gathering, the Realm is in disarray, the Deathlord Mask of Winters has begun his march against the Scavenger Lands after political defeat in a side-story in the second series, and they are the only ones left to fight him.

This series is the most grand, as escalation has been the theme so far.

As the realm withdraws its legions, Lookshy does the opposite, and a side story goes back to our dragonblood roots as a sworn brotherhood there tries to rally support throughout the Scavenger lands against the Mask.

Here, the circle and the Dragonbloods might meet and cooperate, but one way or another the season ends with a massive and epic war between the mask and the circle, but after defeating him the new reaches them of something much worse (Only if a fifth series is desired!) in the South: Another, much much more dangerous Deathlord is invading, but alongside him are an unknown foe!

The last series can be a Demon/Infernal Breakout story, or one of the Locust Crusade ones. A nice one, if a series about an alchemical group is desired, would be the quest for the eye, which would be an interesting travelling quest with them seeking "The Grail" through a war-torn creation, and possibly having to explore the undertunnels also.

I see the finale as being something akin to the end battle with the Kukla or the defeat of the First and Forsaken lion, followed by a repose scene with flashbacks to the protagonists of the series' past in various states of victory or success, and the general mood would be a lull or a temporary and fragile peace in Creation.

It may be noted that I didn't involve an Abyssals series. Much as I like them as PCs, I think that for an Anime TV series they cannot be given justice as the evil bastards they are without making it.. disturbing and unpopular with the general public. They serve better for a TV show as evil antagonists, but as protagonists only renegades would suit and I find the notion of a whole renegade circle somewhat unsatisfying as a series supposed to represent them as they are.

Battousai: Exalted is an original work which, like everything else, has inspirations and works from which bits of it are derived. It is not a mishmash patchwork of stolen goodies from other animes, although it can be run as such by STs who want to play their favourite shows.
