You may not remember how exactly, but at some point you took to fighting against Grand Magistrate Alistair Vandenberg IV, ruler of the empire of Pyradene.
Maybe it was when he took something personal from you, or had someone close to you executed.
Whatever the case is, you decided that he wasn’t fit to rule anymore. After all, there must be a better ruler out there, right?
While a tragedy may have befallen you, your opinions are certainly not shared alone. Simply a bit of searching allowed you to find others like you, those with similar equipment and skills at their disposal. In this world, technology imbued with magic holds an essential part in daily life, known as hextech. But it wasn't always this way. It was created for a specific purpose.
You see, a while ago some select humans knew how to use magic. They were known as Mages. Passed down through genes, these Mages honed and practiced their skills for generations until they perfected it. An alliance formed between these few families of Mages, and they quickly subjugated a huge swath of land and dubbed it Pyradene. Their reign was absolutely merciless, and these rulers killed and tortured in horrific ways when someone didn't obey their word. At some point, an underground society started a rebellion right underneath the capital city of Tymerus.
After a scientific breakthrough, it was found that, along with the great steam machines that had always been around serving mankind, magic could be used to fuel things equipped with a specialized hextech core. Once this happened, it was all over for the few that knew magic, as they quickly went from being lords to power sources. With special cages and nullification equipment, members of the rebellion went out and captured most of the royal family.
Some, however, escaped, and settled down with the common people. Ages went by, and their power grew further as they were exposed to the increasing amounts of hextech around them. And as their power grew, they realized they needed hextech equipment not for using magic, but to keep their own powers in check. As hextech grew more and more invasive into every aspect of life, these few started to become a nuisance, breaking into harvesting stations and freeing the virtual slaves that the Mages had become.
Grand Magistrate Vandenberg noticed these few, and decided to hunt down the remainder of the royal family from long ago.
You are one of those few. And you knew that, while the Grand Magistrate had done much for the people, he was becoming more corrupt with each passing day. It's time for the Mages to have a second chance.
He has to be brought down.
