Name: Jonathan Dobbs
Gender: Male
Age: 37
Nationality: Albionian
Biography: Jonathan Dobbs II, named after his grandfather, was born into a well-to-do family within the Albionian heartland and received an upbringing no different from others within the nobility. The third of five children, much of the attention towards the family was instead directed to his older brother William Dobbs who made a name for himself as a famed explorer in both charting the Southern Waterways as well as exploring the Far East. While Jonathan himself also served in the Royal Albionian Navy, he was less distinguished when compared to the accomplishments of his elder. However, with the disappearance of William Dobbs three years ago - himself traveling to the Dread Wastes - Jonathan thus eagerly sought out the chance to lead the next multinational expedition towards those lands in order to find out what happened to his brother. Although he wasn't the Admirality's first choice, he was ultimately picked for the task and now leads the Second Dobbs Expedition.

Johnathan 'John' Carnall.png

Name:
Johnathan Clyde Carnall

Gender:
Male

Age:
34

Nationality:

Alleghenian Federation

Biography:
When word of a grand expedition to unknown parts of the world begins spreading around to the countries neighboring Albion, you're bound to attract quite a number of different people with different goals and dreams. Clyde, though, is purely in it for the experience. He was born an explorer, just like his father before him and his grandfather. Both were some of the first to venture out into the vast expanses that made up the Alleghenian frontier, seeking fame and fortune. Fame is nice and all, and fortune eases your troubles, but experiencing a nice adventure or two always creates good memories and stories to pass on. Clyde has quite a few already, but he's always eager to add to the collection. His talents with a rifle and pistol should aid him too, as well as his experience in the Federation's army.

Maybe, if he survives all of this and reaches a ripe old age, he'd write a book. People like that sort of thing, right?

Isaac McGuire
Cis-Male | 30 | Albionian

Growing up an orphan in a fishing village is no easy feat. Convincing a group of sailors to take you on as a deckhand and working your way to Captain of the vessel, Vaxis Moor, that saved you from a life of certain poverty 15 years ago? That one felt impossible. It took a hell of a long time, a hell of a lot of pain and effort, and Vaxis’ former Captain dying in an engagement, but Isaac holds his station with pride and authority. A well-respected Captain, albeit with a bit of a drinking problem that he tries to keep from his crew somewhat successfully, Izzy has been reassigned to the Second Dobbs Expedition. This assignment is in-part due to his reputation as quite the adventurous, scrappy Captain with a survivor’s spirit and in-part due to his previous experience working with Jonathan Dobbs II himself. Though he’s excited and interested in a new adventure, Izzy will miss his crew and the warm safety of Vaxis Moor. At least there's a cat.

Name: Gustav Rudolf von Ebersbach
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Nationality: Kingdom of Saxony - Teutonia Confederation
Biography: Gustav Rudolf von Ebersbach was born in Dresden, the youngest son of five of Rudolf von Ebersbach (born 1794), a cuirassier cavalry officer in the Royal Saxon Army during the Napoleonic War (can be changed to equivelent of it if it's different in the lore), he participated and was wounded in the Battle of Borodino, but still managed to command and maintain order of his unit during the subsequent hellish fighting retreat.

Gustav had dreams of becoming a sailor since young age, which brings him into conflicts with his father who wanted him to continue the family traditional and go cavalry. He was regarded by his teacher as a gifted kid but something of a trouble maker. At age 16 he graduated grammar school with flying colour, and, without consulting his father, Gustav ran off to sign up to work as an unpaid cabin boy on board an Albionian trading ship "Ceanothus", in exchange for a hitch-hike as the ship set sail from Hamburg to Halifax, Borealia. After arriving in Borealia, Gustav worked several jobs over the years, including railway worker, newspaper hawker, bear hunter, hockey player (he was quite atheletic after all), before he signed up to be a crew member on board the whaling ship "Antaeus".

The whaling ship's voyage took Gustav to travel all around the arctic region, hunting for beluga whales, narwhals and sometimes leviathan. At the age of 20, Gustav saved up enough money and returned to Teutonia, where he attended naval school in Bremen, where he got his deck officer qualification. At that point, the Teutonia Confederation had dissolved it's Reichsflotte, barring Gustav's dream of joining the Navy.

In 1853, he found job working as third mate on board the Alleghenian clipper ship "Azure Tempest", which has set records across various trade routes, including completing a journey from the New York to the San Fran in just 89 days in 1854, which normally would took 200 days, making world headlines for Captain Elias Ward and his wife Navigator Isabella Ward. Though proud to serve as a member of the team to make this achievement, Gustav also wanted a chance to prove himself. When he heard about the Second Dobbs Expeditions to the Dread Wastes was recruiting an international explorer team, he decided to take this opportunity, believing he could contribute with his previous experience of hunting leviathans and whales in northern arctic seas.

"Jean", Quartermaster

Gender
???

Age
38

Nationality
Albionian, Uhni Colony

Biography
Jean was born into a very newly conquered colony and whisked away at the age of 11 to be 'raised' as a proper Albionian citizen. Despising the school and program they had been forced into, the Unni'an spent their adolescence raging and rebelling against their constraints. Their favorite 'stunt' being of dismantling whatever essential machinery they could get their hands on from the school's plumbing system to various bips and bobs of machinery that were to be used as teaching tools for the students. That repetitive loop persisted until Jean started growing taller , and much stronger than the rest of their pieers to the point where the school board could no longer easily subdue them.

And so Jean was expelled and tossed into the streets with little knowledge of how to navigate them and worst of all: no connections and no idea where their family could be located. Jean had to carve their place out of the bottom of the "Albionian food chain" with their own blood, sweat and tears. Their unusually tall and imposing build gaining the interest of many dodgy employers in the search of the highest profit with the lowest investment: why would you need to pay 5 men when you can underpay for a single worker with almost equally as much brute strenght? And that was how Jean survived by doing absurd, physically demanding odd jobs in even odder places.

Jean's exentricities garnered attention amongst their pieers, connections formed leading Jean to better jobs and 'richer' connections. The hope of ever finding the Uhni'ans waned as the years went on. Motivations changed, aquiring a large sum in the hopes of living a more comfortable life became the focus. Rumors of possible riches and even earning enough wealth for an early retirement led Jean to become part of a seemingly legendary expedition towards undiscovered territory on the Dawnbreaker, thanks to a few connections in the Albionian army.

Name: Nadezhda Kozlova
Gender: Female
Age: 34
Nationality: Sokrovian
Biography: Born on the island nation of Sokrovy, Nadezhda (Nadya to her friends) was the daughter of renowned naturalist Vadym Kozlov. Nadezhda spent the early years of her life exploring the island's desolate interior with her father and learning survival skills which would help her become a researcher in her own right. However, by the 1850s, the natural flora and fauna of Sokrovy were mostly documented, and new discoveries carried little interest in an economy that was increasingly interested in offshore endeavors - of which the hunting of leviathans and the extraction of their oil being the foremost. As a result, Nadezhda and a team of her associates volunteered to take part in the Dobbs Expedition, both to offer their highly-applicable knowledge, as well as to find a discovery which will notch their names into the history books.

Wolfgang.png

Name: Wolfgang "Wolf" Rahmer
Gender: Male
Age: 47
Nationality: Kingdom of Lauhurn
Biography: Wolfgang hails from the thick forested lands of Lauhurn. For his early life he grew up primarily among hunters and woodsmen. Wolfgang was raised in a family that prided itself on living off the land, mastering the art of tracking and hunting. His father from a young age taught him and his two siblings that every kill must be used to its fullest. Wolfgang still takes this to heart, and upon the kill of a beast will try to find a practical use for every part of it.

As he grew in age he married a local sweetheart whom he had grown up with. With her he had 2 sons and 2 daughters. It was this same wife that lead him to greater ambition for her comforts, always loving how her face would light up when he brought home sweets or new inventions from the more developed cities. It was in one of these trips he was persuaded to join a local expedition for mapping the wilderness. After further training he became quite the experienced cartographer, and his name was referenced and used again by another local company, then another. Eventually this began leading him further away from home traveling far across a variety of environments of the mainland. This didn't lead him to complain though, the pay was good enough and the work was interesting. Although he claimed it was all for treating his family to a better life, a bigger part of him had a thrill for charting the unknown. Throughout this his skills of years as a hunter and survivalist benefited him greatly, finding ways for the expeditions to move forward in harsh conditions.

When the expedition came forward local representatives of Lauhurn recommended Wolfgang as a candidate. The thrill of charting the dread wastes was something he found himself unable to pass up.

Name:
Angela

Gender:
Female

Age:
15

Nationality:
Albionian

Biography:
Angela, soft spoken and eager to please and learn, is orphan with no family to speak of, and having never had a surname. Although very young, her knowledge is not to be underestimated. All her life, she's been fascinated with the stars, staying up late to lie in the grass and simply watch. The orphanage was lucky enough to receive donations from the local library, and from there she learned more about the stars. She memorized hundreds of their names and locations in the sky—and by extension, astronomy.

The orphanage would eventually close down, and Angela went to the coast. It is there where she got a taste of seafaring. With a little luck she convinced a captain to take her as a navigator, and all he had to pay her in was food. Since it was a short trip, and he knew a bit about navigating himself, and he couldn't say no to the girl's adorable face, he agreed. And impressed he was. Word spread. And in the coming months, several captains have since smuggled her on board their ships, either to avoid paying actual navigators or because she has constantly proven better than them at their jobs, determining longitude and latitude upon a moment's glance through her sextant. Also, she's an absolute delight to be around!

When word of the expedition made headway, she was intrigued. A steel vessel? Leviathan oil as fuel? Charting the Dread Wastes?! It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! So many firsts for the young girl! With the good word of sailors backing her up, Angela practically threw herself into the sign-up. If she wasn't accepted, she probably would have snuck on board anyway...

Name: Reginald Fontaine
Gender: Male
Age: 45
Nationality: Alleghenian Federation
Biography: There are a few ways to describe Reginald. Entrepreneur, opportunist, best selling author and patriot.

As his autobiography, 'Walking in the Alleghenian dream', states:

A native of the New Yarktown's borough known as the Street, I grew up in poverty until one lucky day I turned my life around. As a young boy I was asked by an affluent businessman where to best make an investment on a dare from his friends. My quick wit shined though and after collecting a consultant fee, I pointed to an empty lot where now many years later stands one of the city's landmark hotels- The Tower!

One story out of many that dot the life of my legacy as I climbed the social ranks of the Street and eventually would mingle with the city's biggest players. Yet my mind does not confine itself to the city of opportunity. No I have put much of my time, money and energy into making sure that Alleghania is a strong nation that can stand on its own. So much of the wealth I have ammased from the Street has been flowing towards the security of our nation and the men and women that guard it.

But lets not wrap up this story on the first page dear reader, I still have much more to tell...

From the pages of 'Alleghenian nightmare' newspaper.

Fontaine is a bastard, scoundrel, a charlatan, a conman and a sick in the head. One of the many players that work tirelessly to keep the sick game in New Yarktown going for their amusement. The only real thing about him is that he grew up poor on the Street, but Reggie did not account for the people he grew up with to remember him and his dirty ways. According to them he not only ran with a gang, but soon took control of it. His not so bright goons would terrorize the neighborhoods of the burough for money and later he would find work for him and his deadbeats working as security and hired muscle for the fat cats that bleed the people dry.

That's that rich buddy that 'found' him as a young man. Wouldn't take long before he used the money he had and form a detective agency that would do the dirty work for bosses in order to crush worker strikes and incriminate union leaders. The man is as dirty as they come, dear reader. Hah, how he calls you that in his own biography. The man has nothing but disdain for the common folk who think him an example. His connections have landed him a cushy job working for Sam&Wilson. That's right, the weapon manufacturers that he claims he only works with as a 'friendly favor' for his friend on the board.

Are you curious about his patriotism? Oh that is the other truth he told I suppose, but as with this two timing snake, there is a catch. Our brave boys and girls were turned into murderers and pillagers by his hands as he feeds the mouth of his true master. That money and influence he's amassed over the years has been put to good use. Often supplying arms and equipment to units that were deployed to expand our territory and influence. He personally would go overseas and if what my sources in the military say is true, would 'enjoy a good hunt with the boys.'

But we have merely scratched the surface for this chapter, there is more to...

The issue where this article was from was the last of the printed by the publication. It had to close its doors soon after due to a defamation lawsuit. Whereabouts of the author are still unknown.

From the pages of the New Yarktown gazette

Crowd is abuzz on the Street again as Sam&Wilson declared that they have secured a deal to arm the Albionian expedition that aims to explore and chart new lands in the north. No doubt a great deal for both parties, but there is an interesting detail that the Gazette has learned. Our own Reginald Fontaine has recently come back from a trip down south to arm our boys and he is already back in the saddle. Or maybe we should say boat. That's right folks, our shrewd businessman smells opportunity and if there is anyone who could find gold in those wastes, its him.

ZdenkaWalzerART1.png
Name: Zdenka Wälzer

Gender: Female

Age: 41

Nationality: Western Moravian

Biography:

The only daughter to reach adulthood of trailblazing industrialist Jaroslav Wälzer Jr and founder of the Wälovy Závody ( more commonly known as Wälza Works in Albionian ) industrial conglomerate, Zdenka Wälzer would quickly make a name for herself within the lofty colleges of the Imperial Moravia, learning the inner workings of not just the nobility and their fickle decorum but in practical matters. Particularly those about harnessing the power of Leviathan oil in industrial applications caught Zdenka's attention.

Though her endeavors were initially thwarted by her father who wanted a more traditional lifestyle for his family's only daughter, he would eventually relent after Zdenka was found to be the creator of the Poslušný, The first self-propelled Locomotive created within Imperial Moravia under a privately funded front company using money laundered from Wälza Works.

Jaroslav Jr was shocked and ecstatic about this, especially the later discovery of her covert transfers from Wälza Works' wealth since his sons were quite disappointed due to their inability to properly lead the company, leaving Wälza Works to stagnate due to their meddling and utter incompetence to manage the company's Board of directors.

`Thus, Zdenka Wälzer was hastily given a seat on the Board at the age of thirty, after finishing her Doctorate, there among her brothers, she was able to strike several prompt dealings over the last decade, both public and otherwise, that ushered Wälza Works' rise as one of the leading conglomerates within the entire sub-continent.

Zdenka was even able to broker naval deals with neighboring nations with access to the sea, personally overseeing the creation of several Wälza shipyards in countries allied to the landlocked Moravian Empire. Yet, due to the untimely death of Jaroslav Jr and most of the Board being strong-armed by Zdenka's eldest brother, Jaroslav the III, Zdenka was forced to step down and hand over her shares begrudgingly.

Now, after almost a year of seclusion following her expulsion from Wälza. Zdenka had announced that she would be taking part in the Second Dobbs Expedition.

Liandri de Wet

IMG_3202.jpeg

Name: Liandri (Lee-Ann-dree) de Wet

Gender: Female

Age: 29

Nationality: Principality of Suden Tuetonia

Biography:

A native born Sudenlander, Liandri grew up in the wild wayward colony of Teutonia, a country long free of its parent nation. A small nation, the impassioned colonists survived the dangerous fauna, inhospitable terrain and hostile natives to found the shipping powerhouse of the Principality of Suden Teutonia.

Shackling the earth, the Principality flourished. Alongside the trade, technology and shipping industries, Liandri grew and learned. She watched the modern devour the old. The fierce beasts of the dark continent eradicated by fire and steel. It left a lasting impression on the daughter of High Judge de Wet, who began study both at home and abroad in the burgeoning field of ‘chemical application’

By all accounts a polarizing and polarized figure, she amassed a small fortune by twenty six, marketing a tobacco based inhalant in small cartridges to soldiers and the pressganged natives of the Principality. By twenty eight, she began bankrolling exploratory expeditions in search of exotic samples to break down and render into base compounds for practical application.

This quickly led her to leviathans and the great wastes. Unwilling to invest without being present herself, the chemical baroness herself has purchased a stake aboard the RAS Dawnbreaker and brought with enough field equipment in an effort to distill and imbibe the great power of the wilds.

Name: Preacher Orin Ross
Gender: Male
Age: 42
Nationality: Alleghenian Federation
Biography: The young Orin grew up in Paradise, a rural farming community on the edge of civilization. His father, a farmer and saddlemaker, took pride in tending the land and the simple life it afforded him. Naturally, he wanted to pass on this knowledge to his son, hoping he would one day assume the responsibilities of maintaining the family homestead. However, Paradise was hardly a utopia. Young Orin couldn’t help but recognize the contradictory nature of the town’s name. It was a barren plain, the land scarred by the furrows of time. There was no future here except the monotonous toil that led to poverty. It was a lonely life, which helped him eventually find inspiration in the work of the traveling minister who arrived one day on the family’s doorstep. When the residents of his little town crowded inside the single schoolhouse to hear the minister’s sermon, there was a spirit of awe and reverence about it all. Orin had found his calling.

For the next several years, Ross followed the traditional path of attending the theological seminary to become an ordained minister. However, he soon exhibited unconventional behavior by taking an interest in the occult, spurred by a rare talent to empathize with others on an esoteric level. It was almost as if he could perceive their spiritual essence. As such, he attributed his abilities to his faith and devotion to God, a relationship strong enough to allow him to advance spiritually. He had found enlightenment and discovered the path to obtain secret knowledge.

Using his eccentric methods, Ross delved deeper into the rabbit hole of possibilities in his quest for answers. He learned of various religious sects that promised to reveal a range of profound truths to their followers—insight about God, gods, aliens, transcendent experiences transporting people to other worlds or planes of existence, or the secret to god-like powers, release from emotions and fears, or access to immortality in this world or eternal life in the next.

Were they all connected to the epiphany he had experienced?

By this point, the Church Elders had grown wary of Ross’s fixation with the occult. As a result, they designated him for assignment, sending him to the frontier to serve as a circuit preacher for those who called the desolate wasteland home. He routinely stopped to preach the Good Word in fields, barns, and private homes, always grateful for the hospitality—however, it kept him from pursuing his personal endeavors. Aside from the same ledgers he had pored over numerous times, there was very little to further his research on the fringes of society.

Fortunately, Ross’s stint only lasted as long as it took the Elders to decide his fate. The news of the Second Dobbs Expedition quickly spread throughout the church, as did the promise of an uncharted land to spread God’s Word. It had enormous potential, particularly if the Church could establish a congregation in the new world. They wanted a piece of the pie. Nevertheless, it didn’t come without the threat of imminent danger. The Elders were both curious and fearful of the beasts known as Leviathans. What role did they play in God’s creation? There were so many questions they hoped to answer.

Who better to perform that task than Preacher Ross?

Thus, they voted to send him on the expedition to serve as a missionary for the journey.

Name: Naileen Enroy

Gender: Female

Age: 27 years old

Nationality: Alleghenian born

Biography: Although born in Alleghenia, Naileen was raised among a variety of different cultures and peoples across the world. Her parents, renowned anthropologists who bestowed all of their experiences upon their young daughter. There is nowhere they would go that their one and only child did not also travel. Forget hiring someone to raise their own child, they had an everlasting passion for their careers and they wanted to share the joy of their work with her. Little did they know that they had created a sponge for everything that could be encountered or experienced.

Before too long, their daughter went from begging for stories or asking questions about things to discovering the answers for herself or unearthing stories thought lost. By the time she had reached her teenage years, much of the world was known to her and what more there was left to be discovered was dwarfed by her one true curiosity.

The Dread Wastes.

If there was ever one mystery of the world that drew her in like a moth to a flame, it was those treacherous lands. However, where the urge to join the very next expedition setting off for the wastes was present so early, it was forbidden that she even consider traveling to that hellish part of the world by her own parents. Naileen's curiosity concerned them greatly, enough to the point that even when they both had lost their lives in a tragic accident, their dying wish was for her to be barred from travel to the Dread Wastes.

They wished for her to experience living a normal life, taking the knowledge and information that she had acquired and spreading it to the students of the university that they had learned from and taught at themselves. Before too long, Naileen, already an expert in her field, became one of the youngest professors to grace the faculty of Newsome University. Students would be hit with a wave of the exotic when entering Professor Enroy's classroom, decorated with dozens of trinkets or items from her travels, and she had a knack for spreading her passion for culture, linguistics, and societies old and new to her students.

However, students were not unaware of her desires. She would speak of them often. One of which being her desire to travel the Dread Wastes. But a fellow professor and family friend would always be the one to reign her in. Remind her of her last parents wishes. It is because of this that some see her as mad. The woman that saw most of the world was not complete until she had finished exploring every last inch of that final piece. Perhaps there was more to this world yet undiscovered.

Before too long, her days of teaching seemed to come to an end. A letter had arrived for her detailing an expedition into the Wastes under one Captain Dobbs. The opportunity proved a handy excuse for bypassing her parents wishes. The expectations of Albion and the world were enough to free her from her current ties.

At long last she would make her dreams come true, even if all that awaits her ahead is misfortune.

Name(s)
Kristina Lambe - Wendel Sonderman - Eleanor Rosendal - Sasja Thorne
(top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right)

Gender(s)
Female - Male - Female - Male

Age(s)
46 - 54 - 24 - 21

Nationality
Zelenheim Confederation - Zelenheimers

Biography
Kristina Lambe is a woman of many talents. She was once, for a season, the leading actress in the entire Confederation. From concert hall to the stage of every sleepy town square, there were few who hadn't heard of the great Kristina Lambe, the most beautiful, most sonorous, and most talented actress of the century. Naturally, this was until another, most certainly not more talented actress eclipsed her, and she found herself once again relegated to supporting roles and local plays that were advertised on the back of the broadsheets.

Still, she could draw an eager crowd to a circus round-top. Every school she visited benefited from her acting lessons and techniques for costumes. The backrooms of old taverns always had a hushed crowd intent to hear her power over the ethereal séance.

And yet, what she could not do, was keep coin in the coffers. Years of bills and debts began to accumulate to the point that being known as the great Kristina Lambe meant less to do with the stage and how many banks were out for her head. Only within the National University for the Arts could she act - in the truest sense - freely. Given her keen eye for a grand show (and grander paycheck), it was a great relief to the university board when Lambe agreed to mutual terms to join the Albion Expedition as the lead of a small team of documentarians, all hand-picked by herself, and on a budget she signed off on.

Right now, all she had to do was keep ahead of the parcel services to ensure the rejection letter never made it before she did.

Naturally, her companions were all as briliantly skilled as she was, all the most bontiful prodigies Zelenheim had ever seen. The good sir Wendel Sonderman was a veteran of the old Royal Sappers, who after his youthful years in the military found a more peaceful life as mountaineer and ranger. If it wasn't for him, Lambe would have tumbled from a dozen different cliffsides, drowned in a great many rushing rivers, and succumbed to dreaded starvation after forgetting a basket of sweets and biscuits at the inn hours after she departed for her nature-painting escapades. Eleanor Rosendal would have captured all of this on photograph, of course, as she was Lambe's ever dutiful assistant at the university and handy in all things concerning art and common sense. In fact, she was one of the leading (and certainly not only) students interested in the new methods of photography and phonograph recording in the entire university! And lastly, the most beautiful and serene Sasja Thorne, the newest and most exceptional up-and-coming stage actor Zelenheim - nay, the whole continent - had ever seen. A remarkable model in his own right, Sasja not only ruled upon the stage, but as the subject of Lambe and Rosendal's photography sessions. He was the king with the sword, the boy with the apple, an angel with real wings, and sultry exotic dancer - the prompt cards said so, so this was true, and they all sold very well on postcards, a great value at only five cents per photograph.
