In the days before, the humans and elves road dragons and fought against the forces of evil in the land of Alegasia. Now, 200 years later, the dragons are all but extinct along with their Riders. There remain few hidden away from the human king Galbatorixx in different places. They all wish him dead, he has used magic to rule the kingdom since the fall of the Riders and uses magic to continue his life. The elves, who reside in the great woods of the North are too reclusive to involve themselves, the humans of the Western plains are unable to stand against their king, and the dwarves of the South are not strong enough militarily to involve themselves. If things continue the way they are then things will never change and humanity will never have it's freedom.
