The Dragon Rune

Keal smiled at the man. He was offering to help them, besides he didn't seem too bad and his sister looked happy and he didn't want to deny her that. "It's cool with me. Thank you for helping us. "

Oxon smiled brightly. "Oh it's no problem at all. " he chugged the rest of his drink. "Do you mind if I talk to you Tala?"

Keal got the message and moved to another table to let them talk.

Tala watched her brother leave before turning back to Oxon. "Sure...what's on your mind?" she asked him.

Oxon looked away nervously before looking her in the eyes. "Sorry I felt this would be awkward with your brother there. But would you like to do something with me sometime?"

Tala stared for a moment, taken by surprise at the sudden invitation. "Yes, actually, I would," she answered. She smiled for a moment, then groaned and frowned. "Except we are leaving first thing in the morning, and I don't know when we'll be back. A few weeks at least..." she trailed off, sullenly. This was just her luck- she met a guy she was attracted to, who was interested in her, and she was going on the most remote job she and Keal had ever taken. Perfect.

Oxon smiled. It was great she hadn't turned him down he really lucked out meeting her it had been a while since he found a girl he liked and he knew the moment he saw her she was special, as cheesy as it sounded it was true. But then she said she was going away. He frowned. "Oh that's a shame... Maybe I could come with you?"

Keal ordered another drink and tried to distract himself. He should at least give his sister some privacy.

"We could always...get to know each other on the way to Traveler's Rest?" she suggested shyly. She didn't want to miss out on this opportunity to spend time with a decent man. Up until this point in her life all the men had been the usual: liars, cheaters, users. She had resigned herself to only being able to depend on Keal. "I mean, if you're going to be our guide anyway..."

"Of course! It will be fun to go throught the mountains with someone I actually enjoy as company. The last few people I took were absolutely a pain. They were complaining about the cold the whole time. Since they were nobels they were used to riding in a carriage but you can't take one throught the mountains." He beamed at her.

Keal was starting to get extremely bored. There wasn't much going on at his table so he decided to move back over to the bar. He sat down in the corner away from his sister.

Tala smiled wider at Oxon, but the she noticed Keal's bored expression as he moved back to the bar. "Well, it is getting late and we were planning to get an early start...shall I meet you here in the morning?" she asked.

Oxon smiled sad that she had to go but excited to spend more time with her. "Ok I better get to bed too then. I will see you tomorrow. " with a smile and a wave he walked up to his room.

Keal smiled "so how did it go." He teased.

Tala blushed again, and rubbed at her cheeks before softly punching Keal's shoulder. "Shut up," she mumbled. "He's nice, and he'll guide us through the ridge for free." She headed towards the stairs to their rooms. "What about you? I never see you making eyes with anyone...aren't you too young to be bored with that already?" she asked, teasing him right back.

Keal moved his eyebrows up and down suggestively. "No one every does anything for free. He's doing it for you. And you like him!" He laughed but things got serious again when she questioned why he wasn't getting it on with anyone. He frowned. "Well there's no one that is really standing out to me here.. Actually I've been meaning to tell you something but I don't know if now is the right time."

"Maybe I do, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, would it?" She asked. When he suddenly turned serious she grew concerned- Keal was rarely ever serious. "Oh, Maker, Keal...did you get some girl pregnant somewhere or something? What is it?"

Keal laughed softly. "No no! I didn't get anyone pregnant! On the contrary I never will" his tone shifted back to a more serious one. "What I'm trying to say is I want to be with men." We waited nervously for her response. She was the only family he had and he really wished it didn't sour their relationship.

"Oh..." Tala was caught off guard. She had really not been expecting that. "Well. Hmm." She thought about it, but after a few minutes realized she didn't really care- men. women, so long as he didn't want to settle down with a terrible person, it didn't matter. "Keal, it doesn't make a difference to me. I just want you to be happy. Is there someone...already? That you've kept a secret?" She immediately felt horrible, guilt washing over her in waves. "I wish you hadn't felt you needed to hide it from me."

Keal smiled relived that he had gotten the issue out of the way. He hugged his sister suddenly. "Thank you that means so much to me." He relesed her from the tight hug frowning. "There is no one I'm hiding. I am sorry don't feel bad I was just waiting for the right time. I was just scared that it would bother you.."

"A lot of things you do may bug me sometimes, but that isn't one of them Keal." She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. "Just normal little brother stuff," she teased. "Just don't bring any jerks around, okay? Cause man or not, if they treat you bad, I'll stab their eyes out," she said half joking, half serious.

Keal smiled. He was thankful that he had such a caring and accepting sister. "I will keep that in mind. However please try not to hate every one of them no one is perfect. I know you love me but your really protective." He laughed.

"Well at least now I don't have to worry about some woman trying to trap you with baby," she laughed. "It's my job to be overprotective. Now, because that's my job, I'm saying it's time for us to get some sleep. We're getting an early start again tomorrow." She herded him up the stairs with little shooing motions.

Keal laughed again. "True that means I can get around" he smirked. "I don't want to go to bed now I'm not even finished my drink! Besides at least give me a chance to mess around some more." He hesitantly walked up the stairs in front of his sister.

"Oh no it does not!" she huffed. "You still have to be a decent person, not going around breaking hearts left and right! And you don't need that drink," she continued up the stairs, grabbing a handful of his shirt and shoved him gently further towards his room.

Keal frowned. "Come on I'm not a baby you don't have to force me to bed. Now let go of me before I scream rape and the entire tavern attacks you. " h smirked.

"As if," she said shaking her hair loose so it fell all around her shoulders, and batting her eyelashes. "Look how innocent I am? What could I, a sweet young woman, possibly do against such a strong man?" she snickered. "No one would believe you." She dropped her wide-eyed, innocent expression after a moment though, and tossed her hands up in the air. "Fine, fine, do what you want. I'm going to bed." SHe continued up the stairs.

Keal crossed his arms. "Fine you win I'll go to bed. Not because you told me so but because I am mature enough to know I require sufficient sleep for tomorrow." He frowned as he walked to his room. "By the way your taller and stronger than me. And don't think for a second anyone beloved you are that innocent." He made his puppy dog eyes at her demonstrating his adorableness.

"Hmpf," Tala grunted by way of response. "Whatever. good night little brother." Tala smirked as she opened the door to her room. "I'll see you in the morning. You...and Oxon," she said with a smile.

Keal groaned. "Goodnight man hogging sister... Sleep well your gonna need." He smiled at her sarcastically before going to his room and passing out on the bed.
