Realistic or Modern The Devil Went Down To Georgia

BunnyBookWorm

One Time Luck
Persephone had grown tired of her role as a goddess. Her time in the presence of other powerful Gods and Goddesses had grown monotonous. She had always felt like an outcast amongst her brothers, sisters and cousins. Her father, Zeus, causing havoc among the family as well as others who he has inflicted his powers upon. She had fled from her role as the devotional daughter and become her own person as a mere mortal. With a new identity as Sophie Rivers, she had become a florist in a small town in southern Georgia.

Sophie came to the town of Savannah as a single woman looking for solace in the quiet life of a small town. She opened a flower shop and named it Bloom and Whimsy. Her few years in Savannah were quiet and quaint. She loved how peaceful and uneventful the town was. She had been infatuated with the flowers and plants that she worked with daily. It was healing for her. She got to be away from her duties while also being able to do what she loved and what she was meant to do with plants and the harvest.

She kept to herself in most ways, but she did socialize with the population of the town and had made a few acquaintances and friends during her stay in Savannah. She figured she would stay here as long as she possibly could. She loved everything about her life now. Without being under her father’s thumb she had truly blossomed into the person she always wanted and dreamed to be.

As she began to open her store for the day on a warm Saturday morning, She took in a deep breath and smiled at the scent of the florals in her shop. Her shop was decorated in warm and bright colors with accents of complimentary cool colors to make the colors flow. The salty warm air flowed into the walkway and made the start of her morning feel almost ethereal. She waited for her first customers as she brewed a pot of coffee and started watering and pruning the plants.

Hades, too, had grown tired of the underworld shenanigans. As god of the dead and the afterlife, he was burdened with piles upon piles of what was essentially paperwork for the dead and damned, their constant judge and jury. And, hell, ever since the modern era had come about, there weren't that many people to judge! And so, he had come to Earth, in the disguise of Jack Wylde, the local sheriff.

It wasn't too bad, considering the fact that sheriffs were basically just judges of life and death anyway. And as long as he kept the peace and the trash off of the streets, the people loved him, adored him, even, and he liked it, perhaps a little too much. It helped that he was as far away from the king of the gods as he possibly could be.

Savannah, Georgia was a gorgeous spot to live in, and an even better place to work, he presumed, considering the money he was making (as if he needed the money, he was a god of riches). As he drove down the streets, he noticed, out of the corner of his eye, a... flower shop. That was odd. He hadn't seen this place before, had he? Pulling the cruiser over, he smirked, hopping out and heading for the door.

Instantly, his senses were overwhelmed by the scents in the shop. Damn, that was way too many flowers. Did this place really sell that much? He sighed, sniffling a little as he wandered the place for a moment. He could smell coffee, and he wanted it. Badly.

Sophie hummed a tune to the plants and could feel their energy in her hands. It made her body almost vibrate. She heard the coffee pot finish and she rhythmically walked over to the coffee bar, almost dancing to the feel of the vibrations of the flora around her. She poured herself a cup of coffee and poured lavender-infused cream into it. She heard a car door close and her eyes drifted towards the door.

She saw that she had a customer, a handsome customer, something seeming almost familiar about him. She glided to the door and leaned against the door frame with her right hand. "Good morning, Welcome to Bloom & Whimsy!" She said brightly and smiled at him with pearly white teeth, a warm smile. Again she felt a twinge of something familiar about him, but she couldn't put her finger on it. But her stomach tingled with almost a nostalgic feeling.

Oh, there was a person at the door now, one that hadn't been there the first time he had entered. He figured someone had to be in here for it to be open, and it wasn't odd that that someone's voice sounded just as light and airy as their shop felt.

He turned on his heel, and his brow raised at the appearance of the young woman that stood in front of the door, eyes soft and floral, noticing the flowers in her hair and smirking at her. "Well hello there. Aren't you a quick little something?" he teased, keeping an eye out for the coffee before noticing the cup in her hand. So she did have coffee, just as he presumed. Maybe he could ask her for some later, but right now, he was intrigued by the feeling in his gut.

"So, when did you open up shop? Haven't seen a shop like this before." he questioned, leading on the shelf counter. He was actually intrigued by this business, and once again, the feeling in his gut demanded answers.

She narrowed her eyes a bit as she thought about how she somehow knew him. He looked so familiar to her. Her shoulder leaned into the counter opposite him. "About a year or so, you haven't seen it before?" She asked as she looked over at his vehicle. It seemed a little strange that he wouldn't have noticed her shop before.

"Have we met before?" She asked, he did seem oddly familiar, and while Savannah felt like a small town it was pretty large as well as a tourist town. Maybe she had overlooked him somehow. The corner of her lip curled up towards her cheek as she chewed the inside of her lip in thought and perhaps a bit of nervousness.

Jack paused, listening to her for a moment as she explained when the shop had opened. He leaned on the counter, taking a sip of coffee. No one would be around this area for quite some time, so he had at least some time before people started coming around and asking him questions.

"Can't say that I have, sweetcheeks, but... this side of town isn't usually... prone to investigators, one might say." he explained softly. "I wouldn't come around here anyway, usually. Most of my time is spent down at the precinct making sure those knuckleheads have the common sense to tell their heads from their asses." he admitted, taking a sip of coffee. Of course, this wasn't all he did, but the less she knew, the better.

And then... then, she had asked if they knew each other, and he paused. There had been an undeniable chemistry, like a moth to a family or a magnet to metal. His expression faltered, only to be replaced by a devilish smirk.

"Oh, I don't believe we have, darling." he said. "Jack Wylde, Savannah, Georgia's one and only sheriff deputy." he teased in his introduction, a glint in his eye saying he might be a little something more. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance." he half flirted.
