Cool, now how much should i butcher quantum entanglement for story purposes? Just thinking out loud.

Yes, at least short-range. Wikipedia was very clear on it being impossible, but maybe if you use the entanglement for targeting for pretend-wormholes...

I guess it's alright, but I really don't want to have to study a whole bunch of theorems, experiments and equations and do very difficult calculations every time someone tries to use quantum theory in their rp. Maybe our host would like to volunteer?

Awesome, thanks. I read that you wanted those interested to contribute to the lore - how fleshed out is the setting in your mind at present?

@Vindictive I have a lot of ideas as to how the universe is formed, but I'm holding onto them and preventing myself from just forcing them into play because the main point of this is that we create things together. Once I scrape up some time I'll info-bomb everybody with a couple thousand word post containing a lot of info, all yet to be finalized. For now I'm still focusing on teleportation systems though.

I think teleportation should just be a prototypical concept, or at most see limited implantation of short range devices with astronomical costs in this universe, as wild-spread, portable and easy to use teleportation devices will 1. Destroy any reason for people to own ships; 2. Create situations where people can just escape out of with teleportation ; 3. Does not fit with the overall theme (space-opera open-world) ; 4. eliminate most (if not all) dangers of traveling (ties in with previous point) and any conflicts will be very static and location based.

I wanted to create a character who could teleport by means of a suit. if allowed range can be as short as you'd like.

Hey, I'm just wondering if another spot is still open. I love this type of stuff and would like to join.

Happy New Years and Merry Christmas everybody, even though it's more than a little late.

I'm setting up the official, final roster now. Time to get serious as holiday season is coming to a close. For the roster there will be a space by your name, if there is an X in the space, you're good as a confirmed participant. If it's empty 5 days from now, sorry, but you were too late. No admission past that point without extreme extenuating circumstances.

Post in the thread and tag me, letting me know you're in for the long run. And I won't name names, but those who have said "I'm in" and given little to no contribution are gonna have to step up their game or back out, as we're doing this together, and everyone's opinion is valued. A little bit from now I should have an info sheet compiled of everything we've discussed thus far, as well as my input on teleportation.

It took to long to get started, and now my interest has moved on. Also, I rarely enjoy mapping out the systems of soft sci-fi settings. I know enough science to know that most of it is almost certainly bullshit, but not enough science to have any definitive fixes for narrative requirements. It is quite the predicament.

I looked at a lot of info on teleportation, and, after thinking over it, decided that we'd probably be better off leaving it out. As Quarantinetimer said, it would restrict so many aspects of the RP as well as clashing with the theme. Also on the scientific aspect, the energy required to teleport a an average human body exceeds that of multiple nuclear detonations, making it only possible to use on objects of smaller scale at specific stations. So as far as teleportation goes, we'd be better off leaving it out.

Much more exciting having to fight our way into/out of areas instead of just teleporting in anyhow ;)

@Cry U 945 I'm in for the long run!

@Cry U 945 I'm in it to win it.

Something I noted from other sci-fi stories. They often add one purely fictional thingy to the world and use that to explain all the weirdness. Like element zero from Mass Effect. Or we can put in something like the Force or Darkspace or whatever in it.

(I do wish to note the teleportation I had in mind was extremely short range, but GM is law. Besides, there more than enough other ways to make a rebel space-scientist in a powersuit)

I'm in. This is the most promising one I've found so far. It's too long to go looking for something else, realize that everything fails again, and sit in a corner, crying about why I've let go of the opportunity. @Cry U 945

Alright guys, I'll check you off. And thanks for sticking with it; as the others pointed out, things have been moving quite slow. I'll try to speed em' up a bit for everybody's sakes.
