Terrestrials and Artifacts

I wanna know.  Do you think every Dragon Blooded (particularly Dynastic) NPC should have artifact weapons and armor?

As Im running my game I find that every DBed that my players defeat, are usually loaded with these artifacts that could bank roll a nation.

So I was wondering, do you use DBs all decked out or mostly they use mundane stuff and the most important NPC are decked out.

Food for thought really.

I would give Dynastic DBs at most two artifacts, usually a weapon and armor.  While jade artifacts are the most numerous types out there, I would still make them rather rare and special.  If your PCs loot the DBs they come across expecting wealth, I wouldn't necessarily give it to them - remember, they came about it through murder and while artifacts are valuable a merchant may get in trouble with magistrates or, even worse, the family who had that artifact in their possession for generations.  That's one way to counter it.  Also, selling off artifacts makes the PCs remembered by others which makes them easy to be tracked by their enemies.  Perhaps the families of the Terrestrials they've killed could combine their forces in order to apprehend them and make them pay for their crimes...

also think about the remifications of killing of alot of DB's just becasue the players went treasure crazy... *shuders*

anyway as to what artifacts as alohahaha said 2 artifacts at most maybe going onto 3 in rare cases... and if your players decide to attack lookshy for artifacts then their probably going to get a face full of warstrider.

alohaha daiklaives and jade artifact armor are being constantly produced in the realm, and also in lookshy.

There is a strong market for such in the threshold, particularly in the scavenger lands

god bloods would pay well and not ask questions, as would some savants

If the characters make a regular business out of killing DBs and fencing their Artifacts, someone is going to start asking questions, and eventially the Realm will come looking for all their stuff.

OTOH, if they're only moonlighting as murderous arms dealers, they might just get away scot free, and fairly rich. What's the problem with that?

I see no problem with that, but Scorp seemed to be a bit iffy about it.  I wanted to give him a few down sides that he could use against his players if he so chose to.  Another one I just thought of is that they may earn the ire of the Lintha Family, who are sure to be in the same business and wouldn't like the PCs to be cutting in on their profits or getting to victims before them...

Limiting the number of artifacts the average dragon blood has will not solve the problem. Without real difficulty you can lay, bait and spring a trap on a wild hunt. a cercal of solars can take wild hunt easily if they choose the terrain and timing, more so if the hunt is expecting only a single anathema. And then clime artifacts worth a lords ransom. This could be done several times before the organizers got wind of it, and a dozen of times with the aid of fast transport.

If you want to limit the theft of artifacts it is the market you must seal, ether with a lack of demand or an existing criminal monopoly. The first is unbelievable. The second could lead to the players trying to break this monopoly. If so let them, at the end of a difficult plot ark if they succeed they are rewarded with resources 4-5 and a ready market for jade artifacts. Its not an unjust reward for the effort they will expend. And don’t forget, the rest of the world will move around them as they create there criminal empire.

I always give each member of a Wyld Hunt at least one Jade weapon, though a Terrestrial Exalt that isn't in the hunt has at the very least, a Level 1 Artifact such as a Hearthstone Amulet, Razor Claws, or a Collar of Dawn's Cleansing Light.

If they're disposable, or you are in the practice of tossing Exalted at your players, knowing that they will win hands down, or Dragon-Bloods replace extras, a small blinking red light should appear. It will say "Check cheese level." Do so immediately.

Seriously though, if they're disposable scions, just give them armor and a weapon. However, if they're actually characters, with more than a name and a little personality, it can be worth the time to stat them out. Or at least give some variety in what they're carrying. If they're in the Wyld Hunt, you can be it'll be military stuff. Weapons and the like. If, on the offchance you manage to anger a group of Dynasts on vacation or something, then you should probably give out some esoteric or odd goodies, things that break the "I AM A GIANT MAGICAL WEAPON" mold.
