Fantasy Tell Me the Tales of Old and Those of New

Carmen frowned watching everything happening, beginning to feel flustered, turning to aemond once he had returned to her side. “I think … I think I need to retire for the evening.” She told him quietly, feeling a little light hewded.

Joseph watched her for most of the rest of the night until he was able to sneak away and get some rest. Wanting to get a head start in the morning on some council matters.

Max was saddened that he didn't return to her side that evening. She hadn't meant to upset the Prince, she just wanted to try and have some fun with him at the dreaful event. Though she soon too made her way back to the inn they were to stay in for the time being frowning at how her father ranted about how she needed to act more like a lady.

Aemond gave a heavy sigh as he came back to Carmen's side. He thanked him again before looking at Carmen and nodded "Let us go then." He said before kissing her temple gently and took her to bed. He sighed heavily shaking his head some as they got into the room "What are we to do Carmen? I cannot risk you, but I cannot stay in exile much longer."

She frowned and watched him. “Aemond you must wait for the right time to strike. I know it has been difficult. I too want to go back to the red keep. But to do so too soon would likely mean death for both of us.” She reminded him, struggling to stay on her feet until he had helped her get undressed, getting into her night gown, raiding her hair down and finally lay down

“We were not there to offer your hand in marriage and yet you go straight to him as if that was your purpose.” He scolded. “You cannot entertain the court gossip. Most is lies anyway. The rest that isn’t will only get you into trouble” he muttered, “we have one more day here before we must return home.l he told her, kissing her head and leaving her to her room for the night.

Aemond gave a heavier sigh but nodded before helping her lay down for the night. He lay beside her after he got dressed into his night clothes as well reading his book quietly while he tried to calm him mind to drift to sleep.

Max frowned deeply and sighed heavily "I was only wanting to see an old friend." She said quietly looking at him in a bit of shock "One day?! No....no you promised at least a week home!"

Carmen lay against him, tracing patterns on his chest while she tried desperately to get to sleep, “I love you.” She murmured quietly to him once she was finally fully drifting off.

“We will return after tomorrow and that is final!” He told her much more forcefully this time. “I have learnt much from this evening and none of it bodes well for when the king dies. It will not be safe in the capital. There are too many who believe Joseph unfit to rule. There will be an uprising. I will not risk my only daughter.” He told her before shutting the door behind him on his way back to his room

Aemond awoke the next morning giving a heavy sigh as he was reminded of the news he had been given the night before. He looked over at Carmen giving a soft smile before he got up quietly. He dressed himself and made his way to find Edith asking for her to run him and Carmen a bath before he made his way back to his wife.

Max frowned deeply at his words but said nothing else. She quickly got herself into some night gowns and fell asleep having only dreams of Joseph and their times together. She was awoken the next morning by the Inn Keeper's wife informing her of breakfast being ready for them. She thanked her quietly and went to grab a robe to wear over her gown so that she could eat before dressing for the day.

Carmen had woken up while he was gone, still feeling rough, struggling to sit up without feeling dizzy and just about managed to stand as he entered the room, her legs buckling the moment he did though.

Joseph had been up since the crack of dawn, heading to get breakfast in the hall, noting the emptiness of the place and just shook his head. He’d suspected his father wouldn’t be joining them but the fact that their two guests hadn’t either he felt was rude.

Aemond frowned deeply and rushed to her side when he saw her stumble. He caught her and gave a heavy sigh "Come on love, sit down." He said quietly before kissing her temple.

George came out to him about ten minutes later looking pale and visibly upset. He took a deep breath before going to stand infront of Joseph "Your grace....the king....the king is dead." He said as gently as he could.

She frowned and looked up at him. “Aemond, what if it’s happening again?” She mumbled. The last time she had been like this was just before he’d been exiled. She had been with child but lost it very early on and now she thought it might be happening again. This time too early for her to have even known.

He frowned and looked up, not responding to him for a minute as he processed the information. “You are sure? My father is… no. I won’t hear it. I understand he has been unwell but the maesters assured us he had more time.” He muttered frantically as he stood to go to his fathers room.

Aemond frowned deeply and shook his head some "No...no surely it is not that again. I will get the maesters to look you over." He said quietly kissing her gently looking over at Edith as she came i "I've had Edith draw you a bath, go with her okay?" He murmured

George frowned deeply shaking his head some "I'm sorry Joseph...he went in his sleep." He explained before following him towards his father's chambers. The maesters surrounded the king checking over everything before moving out of the way when Joseph came in.

She just nodded and gave his hand a gentle squeeze, watching him walk out, thanking Edith repeatedly while she helped her to the bath, getting in and just allowing the hot water to soothe her body.

As soon as he got into the room and saw it filled it was like someone has lit a match inside him. “Get out! All of you get out!” He shouted at them, staying in there with his father alone for a while, feeling the weight of everything that was about to happen for him getting heavier and heavier. There wasn’t even anyone he could lean on for support. George was good to him but Joseph had never considered him family. Without a single word he stood and left, going through the hidden passage at the back of room.

Aemond walked around most of the castle trying to find a Maester but was finding it hard. He was growing frustrated but once he found George and heard of The King's passing he quickly understood where everyone was. He rushed back to Carmen and asked for Edith to give them a minute before giving a heavy sigh "The King is dead." He muttered as he started to pace.

Max had gone out soon after breakfast wanting to look around the town and get some rememberance of home before having to leave. She had heard the whispers, news like that travels fast in a kingdom, and she couldn't help but wonder how Joseph was handling everything. She frowned when she saw three men get thrown out of a tavern shouting about worthless kings while they tended to their wounds. She went a little wide eyed when she hears Joseph's voice yelling from inside it though and quickly went in to see what was happening.

She frowned and watched him for a minute waiting for him to make a further point. “Then now is the time to support Joseph completely and gain his trust.” She told him seriously. “Where is he?”

He was sat at the bar, nursing one of several drinks he’d already had. He’d tried to be anonymous but when he’d heard the people complaining about how useless he was going to be in comparison to his brother he’d lost it on them. If only they’d really known his brother outside of the face he put on for the public.

Aemond frowned deeply giving a small nod "I know, he is off somewhere, I am going to go search for him before they start a search party. I want you in here for the day though, away from that madness." He explained quietly before going over to her and kissing her gently.

Max went over to his side and frowned deeply "Joseph?" She asked gently but gasped as he whipped his head around quickly to start yelling. She put her hands up in defense and felt her heart break seeing how broken he looked. Without thinking she wrapped her arms tightly around his body in a hug "I'm so sorry for your loss Joseph." She said sincerly and quietly enough so only he heard her.

She nodded and just frowned a little feeling utterly useless right now. She had wanted to enjoy him getting back. Wanted to go for a ride on vaghar and get out of the city for a day or two but as always their plans had been changed.

He couldn’t react. By this point he had done enough fighting and enough screaming that he was truly exhausted. On top of the weeks of stress of trying to find a bride he was at the end of his rope.

Aemond smiled softly and kissed her again "Don't worry love, we'll be back home soon enough." He said quietly before going to leave and find Joseph.

Max pulled away after a minute and gave a small sigh "Come on, lets get you out of here. Take a walk with me yeah?" She said softly trying to coax him out of the tavern.

Carmen just nodded and watched him go, thankin Edith as she helped her get dressed, making her way down to the court once she was feeling a bit better, walking the gardens to get some fresh air

Joseph finally managed to agree to walk with her, having to lean on her heavily, stumbling along, drunker than he’d been in a long time until they reached closer to the gates and he saw the familiar silver hair. “Aemond. I’m sure you’ve heard. I am now king… I need… you as my hand… you should… have more responsibility.” He slurred to him as he had his arm grasped, barely noticing the way he’d been pulled away from max.

Aemond made his way towards the gates and frowned deeply seeing Joseph and another woman there. He gave a small smirk already able to tell how drunk Joseph was from there. Quickly though he made his way down there and started pulling him from Max almost instantly "Come in your grace, we can talk about these things later. Let us first mourn your father properly." He said charmingly.

Max helped Joseph back to the gates with a small sigh as he slurred and muttered incoherant things. She frowned deeply though when the Targaryen man practially ripped Joseph from her arms and got in between the two of them. "I will be joining you, I want to make sure that The Prince is well off." She said frowning as the silver haired man tried tod protest "It wasn't a question. I will be staying by my old friend's side." She said firmly

Carmen had seen them walking the prince through toward his rooms and made her way over quietly to the strange woman, taking her arm and stopping her in her tracks. “I haven’t seen you around here before. Tell me are you new or returning? If you are returning then I have some questions about the gardens.” She told her. Strangers would never guess that she was with aemond. They expected all Targaryen’s to marry their own flesh and blood so it made them a good pair for certain things.

Joseph nodded and frowned, leaning on him. “He should, he should be buried. Soon. It’s the way… the way of our faith.” He slurred to him, letting aemond guide him while he wasn’t in his right mind, only noticing maxs absence once they were in his room.

Max frowned deeply as a woman came up to her from the side as she walked with Joseph "Returning...listen I'm sure another worker could help with your questions. I really need to get back to the Prince." she said feeling an off vibe from this woman as well. She had seen her from the night before. While everyone there had only focused on Joseph, she took note on who came in with whom and she knew this woman was tied to Aemond.

Aemond helped him back towards his room once Carmen had the other woman distracted. He helped him sit down and gave a nod to him "I am sure George is getting that set up for him." he explained before sitting by his side "Your father...he was a good man Joseph. I know that you will make a good king just as he did." he said doing his best to butter him up in this drunken state.

Carmen smiled at her and shook her head. “No. You don’t. Whatever business they have is none of yours.” She told her, turning her in the other direction. “You would do well to remember your place here Miss Wends.” She told her, making sure they had been able to get inside completely before letting go of her arm. “You can have your prince. However you like. But not before we get home.” She threatened her.

Max frowned deeper as she listened to the woman and shook her head some. "I will not let you use him and hurt him." She threatened back before storming off and trying to find Joseph.

Aemond let him be for the time being while he slept trying to find Carmen. He gave a small smile seeing her still in the gardens walking around "I thought I told you to stay in bed until the maesters could see you?" He said gently

She frowned and took his arm “I didn’t want to lay there thinking… I am okay aemond. There is nothing more they can do for me.” She assured him. “We need to be careful of that girl.” She muttered.

George had gone to check on him and found him in his bed, sighing quietly as he left, bumping into the woman he’d seen talking to Joseph the previous night. “The pri… the king is not to be disturbed. If you would like to leave him a message I can get it to him later.” He told her.

Aemond sighed but gave her a small nod "Okay then." He murmured before taking her hand in his as they started to walk "I know, reminds me of you a bit. Very head strong when it comes to the new king. I wonder why though."

Max frowned some as she bumped into George "I just want to make sure he is okay." She said before giving a heavy sigh when he told her to leave "No, not until I know he is safe." She said sternly but frowned as he called for the guards to take her away.
