Taking Flight
Welcome to the legendary El Dorado. This vast, modern city is an island paradise. The streets, paved in gold, seem to stretch on forever; though, if you do happen to find their end, you'll discover crystal blue waters which stretch to the horizon on every side. Though the city's streets are held by its citizens, above, dragons and hippogriffs rule the skies. The creatures have their very own paradise in El Azul, a vast field of magic high above the clouds that provides them with anything they need. These beasts, the dragons especially, are extremely volatile by their own nature, and have been known to reign chaos down upon the city. However, a select group of citizens, mages calling themselves the Ardent, possess the skill of embodying these creatures. They are able to command the beasts, harnessing their power in order to travel, ensure the safety of the city, or use for their own personal gain. While the hippogriffs are merely vessels, harmless and peaceful for the most part, the fierce dragons have their own consciousness, thoughts, and agendas. When embodying a dragon the Ardent must grapple with the dragon's own voice in their head, and the fiercer the beast, the harder it is to control. If a dragon's consciousness gains control while you are embodying it, you will be trapped there, consumed by the creature, and powerless to stop it from whatever havoc it wreaks.
Guidelines
1) Site rules.
2) Be free with your writing style but try as best as possible to keep up thematic continuity.
3) Please write in third person, it's really distracting otherwise.
4) Don't really know what else to say except for "don't be a dick" basically.
Please include your character's name, age, attributes, motivation, if they are one of the Ardent, and the role they fill in this society.
So here's me:
Ri'kovu, 17. He's of average height, fit, broad-chested, with thick brown hair flowing down to his chest and a shock of gold that runs down his left side from root to tip. He has striking blue eyes and high cheekbones. He has a large burn mark on his right arm, in the shape of a half-moon, which he earned in a childhood encounter with a particularly ferocious dragon. A student of the Ardent, he can embody common hippogriffs and some small dragons. He is exceedingly clever and deceptively charming, and a master of misdirection. Born to a whore in the slums of the city who died early in his childhood, Ri'kovu has mostly raised himself: an illiterate scoundrel, a thieving street rat, his only friend the dagger at his belt. That is, until he discovered the Ardent, who took him in and schooled him in the ways of mages. Ri'kovu still has no hope of making anything of himself here in the bustling El Dorado, but once he masters his skill of embodiment and repays his debt to the Ardent, he means to take flight to somewhere new and never look back.
