"Um, aren't seniors and teacher also a bit late?"
No... she said defense and logic, but they were gathering in the academy entrance. Should they really expect assaults here? The academy should have guards against outsiders and entrance would be strictly guarded... so what's wrong with sleeping again?
Ah, it doesn't really matter. Faris concluded after a while. He should give face to his seniors and professors. And so he stayed silent for the rest of the briefing. Out of respect for his teachers. Not sleeping. For sure.
The group soon went out to their respective patrol area. His group consisted of Nic, Ivan, Rivor, Qwin, and, luckily, Seong. He didn't know much of the others, but at least he knew Seong. Oh, Ivan was a sort of Creator, too, he think. Other than that, he was blind. He hoped they could be relied on. He didn't pin much hope on Qwin, though. He was a Chimera, so he was a bit unpredictable.
Aragon District was an industrial district, if Faris remembered corretly. It wasn't exactly bustling, but it had the vibe of a proper urban jungle with pedestrians walking hurriedly from one point to another and vehicle rushing by the speed limit. The sight made him smile. He felt more like home around buildings like this compared to trees. Urban jungles were where he grew up, after all.
His patrol team was supervised by Miss Min and Senior Himeko. Their main concern was centred around the turf war between local gangs, it seemed. A familiar occurence when more than one major gang occupied an area. If he was correct, exposing Phoenix Ring's benefactor would be taking out the root of the trouble, wouldn't it? Ah wait. Their job was only to patrol... right?
"Um, Miss Min. Should-"
A gunshot.
...ah, no. A gunshot was a bad sign, wasn't it? They had to hurry. Some people in his group was starting to move.
"Ah, wait."
He hadn't set up his red threads.
Originally, a good plan would be for one person to be connected to two others. If one was not familiar with the layout of a city, traversing it without direction could be very confusing. However, he didn't have time. Faris opened his right palm. Three threads shot out of thin air, bind his wrist with Seong, Ivan with the cat faunus (Nic), and Qwin with the black feline faunus (Rivor). He should have paired them based on compatibility and relationship, but he needed to hurry.
"We should at least know where one of us are at anytime, right? The thread can stretch up to around thirty meters from experience," he licked his lips as he wrecked his brain to continue. He felt like he missed an important point. What was it that Professor Grand told him? Agh, he couldn't remember it. He felt too fuzzy.
"I'll be going, then."
Faris released the link around his neck and waist. The chains slithered off his skin, making him shuddered involuntarily. Controlling the chains weren't too difficult. In actuality, he only controlled two link of chains, the link at the very end. The same could be said about the threads. He only needed to maintain them, not control them after all. He manifested a hook at one end of the chain, and shot the chain toward a rooftop. With a jerk, he hauled himself upward.
How long since he had done this move again? It felt so natural no matter how rusty he was.
In less than a second, he had stood on the roof. In one flowing movement, he turned toward Seong and shouted.
"Seong, up!"
The chain binded itself around Seong's waist, and within a second, he was also hauled to the rooftop. He would lift the others, but without prior experience, lifting them would only waste time. Also he didn't think he could carefully direct anyone as he was. Faris turned toward the sound of the gunshot.
"Come."
Jumping from rooftop to rooftop, Faris would quickly reach the source of the gunshot.
Only, he slipped up and fell down an alleyway. The first one he jumped over.
"...eh?"
Moments before he hit the ground, Faris pulled himself upward with his chain, slamming toward the wall of a building. He felt bruises forming on his knees and elbows. Without any better way, he slowly climbed toward the rooftop.
Maybe he still wasn't okay after all.
