Welcome to Sword Art Online, a virtual reality mass multiplayer roleplay playing game.

Welcome!
You're character is one of thousands that have been given the grand opportunity to test out a very new experience, presented by yours truly, the creator of the game!

One week has passed since Sword Art Online's initial release. One week has passed since the lives of others was forever changed. Some people rejoiced in the opportunity to avoid their responsibilities presented by the real world, others were not as pleased. No matter their opinion, everyone was trapped inside the death game, SAO, until someone found a way out. At the moment, the only known way to escape is to beat all 100 floors. But after experience the wrath the first floor presented, the other 99 seemed near impossible. The moral of many was down, and no one knew what to do with themselves.

Many stayed put within the Town of Beginnings, vowing to live a simple life. Others went out on adventures, determined to put a stop the game. The rest did the only thing they could do, play the game as intended. Whichever one your character may be, you still managed to stumble across a shady old man in the dark alleys of the Town of Beginnings. This man, who calls himself Sir Lucius, offered a relatively simple retrieval quest in exchange for a heft reward, it seemed almost impossible to refuse. The quest is as follows:

The Golden Wine
OBJECTIVE: Find the golden wine located in a rotting tree
REWARD: Experience, 1000 cor, free room and bored in a nearby tavern, a sip of the Golden Wine, and a potentially powerful weapon

Sir Lucius is currently in need of a rare golden wine located in the middle of a rotting tree. The golden wine is said to bring youth back to those who have lost their luster. However, if someone of adolescence drinks the wine, they will find themselves broken and bruised. This specialty win is but a myth and whether it aids with age is unknown. Sir Lucius is a rather curious fellow who is wiling to sell the wine for profit, even if its effects are none.

The rotting tree is located in the center of the forest just outside the Town of Beginnings. There is a monstrous creature who guards the win. In order to take the win from the tree's possession, one must defeat this creature of evil. Below is a riddle which Sir Lucius has provided to help find the wine:

Seek the treasure at half past nine,
when the sun is set and stars a shine.
In a rotting tree near the vine,
there you'll find a golden wine.

Beware the best with the protruding spine,
and ignore the lady, she's a swine.
Bring me the wine from the shrine
and I'll reward you fine.

BUT don't drink the wine, though divine,
or you'll find that there is not time.

After receiving this quest, Sir Lucius proceeds to point you towards the entrance to the town. He instructs players to go to the entrance when the sun begins to set, where they will find other players to aid on the quest.

Koneko Location: Town of Beginnings Entrance Mentions: everyone

Sword Art Online, or as the cool kids would call it, SAO. It was said to be the game of the century, the game that would defeat all games. Magazines rated it the top VR MMORPG to be on the lookout for way before its initial release. Many hardcore gamers camped outside stores days before release just to get their hands on this legendary artifact. Prior to it's initial launch to the public, there was a preorder available for the game. Some could preorder a copy of the game alongside the Nervegear, or the game itself. There was little talk about the preorder because it had sold out in minutes, later being called the "SAO Wipeout". It was a wonder the neet-in-training Yumiko was able to get her hands on a copy during the wipeout, but she was quiet proud of her achievements.

As soon as the servers booted up, thousands of players flooded the servers. Just as the magazines and critics had been saying, it was history in the making. A whole world at the tip of one's fingertips, and all of the players rushed to be the first ones to experience it. For better or for worse, almost anyone who found the game appealing played that afternoon. Yumiko's nerves got the better of her as soon as she heard the fated sound which indicted her login was successful. She managed to get into the servers minutes after launch, which was a miracle considering how flooded they were.

Every part of the game had her in awe- even the character creation screen. Though there was a bit of malice aimed towards Kayaba due to the lack of fantasy elements, no cat girls today! It was the game she had been waiting for! Finally her sho-

The excitement she had felt at the start of the game rapidly morphed itself into fear and adrenaline. Only a few hours had passed since the SAO servers launched, and people began to notice a bug- the logout button wasn't available. But this bug was soon revealed to be intentional, and everything about Koneko's world came crashing down. Fear, hatred, sadness, she had felt all of those feelings far too quickly and for the next week, Koneko shut herself in one of the taverns with the little money that she was given at the start of the game. She didn't eat, not like it was required, and she continued to pray to whatever deity that it was a dream. The girl didn't like her real world situation, but not enough to suffer through this death game.

Her money was running low and the innkeep's generosity was running thin, she had no other choice but to get out there and earn some cor. Most of the quests were very unappealing, too much risk and too much danger. That was, until, one evening she found herself wandering the Town of Beginnings, and got lost in the many alleyways and roads it held. Through some miracle, a strange, yet kind NPC, came her way- and as if being the answer to all her prayers- gave her a quest that seemed neither difficult nor too dangerous.

And within a few hours, Koneko found herself at the entrance to the Town of Beginnings, waiting to see if anyone else had taken the same quest.

Kamal El-Sayed
Pharaoh

The release of Sword Art Online was meant to be a day that would be enthused about for years to come, the beginning of a whole new era for video games. Instead, the release of Sword Art Online was an event that would go down in infamy as the beginning of the ‘Sword Art Online incident’. Nearly 10,000 people trapped within the virtual world of Aincrad, including Kamal El-Sayed and three of his school friends; Hayashi Daichi, Hayashi Rika, and Kikuchi Chihiro.

Kamal, under the screen name of Pharaoh, had begun his adventure in Sword Art Online with excitement alongside his friends. His younger sister Aya was meant to join them later in the evening when she got home from her after school job. This spared her the fate so many others faced that day. Mere hours after launch Kayaba Akihiko had announced to all players that they were trapped within the game. Not only were they unable to log out, but if they were to die in the game they would also die in real life.

Daichi, going by the screen name Crimson, had quickly taken command of their small group. He consoled a terrified Chihiro, or Fubuki as she went by in game, as Pharaoh stormed off in a fit of anger. His friend Rika, who went by Sogeki in SAO, managed to find Kamal an hour later taking out his frustrations on boars. After a heated conversation, and a duel in which Sogeki beat Pharaoh until he would listen, she managed to bring him back to the Town of Beginnings.

The first week trapped in SAO was far from easy, especially for the gentle-hearted Fubuki. Pharaoh and Sogeki did most of the fighting for their group, often competing over who was the better fighter, while Crimson stuck close to Fubuki to keep her safe. The friends were prepared to stick together from the start, not once thinking about striking off on their own.

That day, Pharaoh was wandering around the Town of Beginnings on his own. The siblings Crimson and Sogeki were busy discussing the group’s next move, and Fubuki had decided work on her sewing skill, leaving Kamal to entertain himself. He had been on his way to the town’s job board intent on taking on a quest when one found him instead.

An old man approached Pharaoh introducing himself as Sir Lucius and offering a quest with a sizeable reward attached. The young player couldn’t decide what enticed him more; the promise of 1000 Cor, or the mention of a powerful weapon. Hopefully by the end of the quest he would return triumphantly to his friends with a pile of Cor and a shiny new sword to shove in Sogeki’s face. The young man grinned at that thought, quickly making his way to the shopping district to stock up for the quest.

The sun had begun to set and the sky was painted a brilliant orange when Pharaoh approached the gates to the Town of Beginnings, just like the quest giver had told him to. A girl with pink hair stood expectantly by the gate, and he had to wonder if her hair was dyed. When Kayaba had made his announcement, he had also given players an item that reverted their appearance to that of their real self instead of their created avatar so it must be what her hair looked like IRL as well.

“Hey!” Kamal called out to her loudly, waving a hand in the air as he approached the girl. “You taking on that old guy’s quest too?”

It was supposed to be the gaming experience of a lifetime... a full-on virtual haven for nerds alike, and major virtual reality enthusiasts to join hands in the realm of gaming progress. What it turned out to be was a true living hell entrapping people to the point of exhaustion, desperation, and even murder. The rules were clear on that one whose HP reached zero was not logged out, but fried brain steak style. The virtual headset that was to bring him such joy was now his personal confined helm. He could still recall the hum of the game confirming his log-in... the hum of no return forever seared into his memory. Like an eternal nightmare lullaby on replay, every time he closed his eyes it triggered the repeat of the eerie tune.

He did also remember the serene moment when he had battled for the game via a tournament prize for his local high stakes back alley smash bro's connections. How ironic that the game he fought tooth, and nail with a flawless execution of Kirby had been the sharpening of his own executioner's blade. Aeon... well Makino had been one of the very first ones in the first wave of server bootups. The character creation was flawless, the first touch of feet on the ground. Mind-blowing. The city, and landscape? Way beyond anything he could imagine in his wildest dreams. Even upon entry, he knew what he wanted to be, his master plan was to become famous in the game as a well-known blacksmith tradesman. The one that the blacksmith went to evaluate tools, help on a quest for the best crafting equipment, and the one to shuttle special items to get the best sales of the land.

Then reality hit... and it hit hard. People were dying screams of those who relished the opportunity to take life. He ended up near death's doors one too many times pulling out players who were desperately trying to get the essentials. The coined term "combat medic" became his life this past week so much so he took up the first aid skill. He had still garnered the Tool Appraisal skill as well as helping willing blacksmith players identify which tricks of the trade were bettered suited to help this miserable new life. It earned him a bit of good coin to yet hilarious a boy who rarely understood the concept of free handouts was now mostly giving it away to keep those too scared to help themselves from having to leave the safety of the city, and with no connections due to low morals. He had no way to keep his own pockets full to keep up with living demands minor as they were. Ironically being a good person was expensive no wonder politicians became terrible people eventually.

Thus the blacksmith Merchant with no market who side hustled in medical aid was in need of easy money. The irony seemed to answer his estranged situation in the form of a shady old man named Sir Lucious who offered The Golden Wine quest... it was hard to believe such an official quest existed. It was pretty simple to follow the riddle don't use the wine item gained, and then you had a comfier situation than most for a while. With no reason not to take it, he headed to the starting location noticing two fellow players he hadn't seen before which was a good thing in earnest.

"Fellow wine connoisseurs I take it," Aeon chimed rather friendly seeing no reason to chat up people he was about to quest with, Much like Pharoah Aeon had also been caught up by the girl's pink hair yet didn't stay on it too long as he seized them both up hand lazily resting on his one-handed axe. Both of them were sword users with the male preferring curved blades. So far this wasn't a bad balance each was different garnering a good minor dynamic.

"I can act as an attacker, and minor healer what about you two?"

Town of Beginnings: Exit
The game was released, and Riku for one knew the entire world was ready for the moment they could play. His neighborhood even had a countdown for it that he heard outside. He listened to it as his headset powered on. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The colors flashed by as he was transported into a new world, surround1668329442693.pnged by other people. They mostly seemed to be minding their own business, so he would too. As Riku loved cosmetics in games, he instantly bought a fancy looking white coat for absolutely no reason. Whether it was expensive or not, he didn't care. He wanted to rule this game in style. After adjusting to combat, he found thrusting the sword is what felt the most natural. Thanks to this, he found himself buying a basic Rapier before long. After returning to the main plaza, hoping to socialize some, he learned at the same time everyone else did; They were trapped in a death game. If they died in this game, then they die in real life. Riku was shaking for a good five minutes. He was forced to lose his cool new look, and return to his real life appearance. It's supposed to be a virtual game- an escape from reality, but now the fear of death would be constant and they were forced to look real? It was too much. Riku, or rather Wyvern walked around the Town of Beginnings for a while before finally becoming determined to escape. Spending a couple days grinding on the local mobs, he reached level 4 with little difficulty. One day as he returned to the well he tended to sit on, he decided to take a shortcut through an alleyway. Expecting trouble, he found none. Instead, he was greeted by a shady old man who introduced himself as Sir Lucius. Giving Wyvern a quest, he quickly found the boy accepting it without hesitation. With the riddle echoing in his mind, he left to fulfill the quest. Though, he had no idea which direction was which.

Looking at a map in front of him, the blue haired boy approached the small crows at the exit to the Town of Beginnings. "Finally, the exit leading to the forest- wait, this is the right area, right?" Looking at the new faces, he smiled friendlily. "I take it we're all here for Sir Lucius's quest then?"

Death
Location: Beggining Town

Death was a 6'8 muscular man with body full of scars and spiky hair that would put Sonic to shame, his ghastly ragged jet black cloak billows ominously as he delivers his final judgement upon his unsuspecting victims. At least until Kayaba handed those damned mirrors and turned Death back into a 5'2 emo Japanese girl that she actually was. So after knowing that any death happened in the game would happen in real life too she decided to postpone her roleplaying activities and cower in fear inside the town's sewer, spending her time fishing some dubious sewer fishes while occasionally whack giant rats away. She was like a total hobo, but that day her perspective was changed.

Two man entered the sewer area, seemingly to do some simple rat-cutting quest. Nothing unusual here, rats cleaning was one of the most abundant quest. Then the big guy stabbed the smaller guy, while laughing maniacly and yelling about how much he hates the other guy. The smaller guy tried to retaliate but his effort was futile, the big guy's numbers were simply bigger and he could shrug off most attacks from the small guy. It wasn't even a fight, it was simply a one sided beatdown. She too, would end up like that some day if she didn't crank up those numbers soon...

Which was finally, after one week of living in the sewer, she decided to came out to the surface. After looking at the bunch of quests that she accepted, she decided to do the wine quest first. It's a no brainer given how simple the objective was and the amount of rewards she would get from all of this. So when the sun finally set she headed towards the entrance and met with the other players who accepted the same quest. For this occasion she's wearing her ragged dark cloak that covers her entire body and a kappa mask on her face. Why the mask? Let's just say she dragged a few people into this game and she fears they would blame her for being trapped here, so she's trying to stay under the radar. Also, it's the only mask she poses after spending the entire week mostly fishing.

"Hello, people. Anyone's waiting to get drunk with the wine? Because I do."

Despite her brooding appearance she just casually greeted everyone. She honestly thought it was refreshing to interact with people after a week of being alone.

Finally the fated day had arrived, a day that thousands upon thousands of gamers had anticipated for months on end with insatiable impatience. Marketed as a revolutionary and pioneering venture into the realm of virtual reality, the chosen day had been speculated by hundreds of thousands to be an event that rivaled the euphoria of the first moon landing. Kids, teens and even adults had planned well in advance for this day, many calling off 'sick' from work whilst others planned with their friends on what time they should all log in and where they should meet.

Ren was no different from the masses, the white haired ninja fanboy had been desperate for the games arrival, counting the minutes if not seconds for the inevitable opening of the servers. Anticipating there to be a flood of users creating their account, Ren had been highly Keen and eager to 'snipe' a particular in-game moniker before someone else did, the boy making all the necessary preparation before-hand. One such preparation being that his best friend be logging in simultaneously with him.

Like many, Ren had no intention of waiting any longer than he needed too before logging in and creating his account, thus an hour before the scheduled release he had sent several reminders towards Daisuke, urging him to be at home and ready to log on the moment the game went live. Thus seeing the responding 'thumbs up' emote from Daisuke, Ren had little reason to assume that something would cause their plans to go awry.

Alas awry they did go. Prioritizing Little Daisuke more than his loyalty towards his best friend, Daisuke had instead accepted plans to tag along with two of his other mates; the both of them pleading for Daisuke to come with as the girls they had planned to meet at the Karaoke bar had brought an extra friend along. Of course, Daisuke could not turn down the invitation and had instead opted to apologize to Ren later in the day when he finally made his account. Surely, his 'best friend' would understand right?

....................................

A week had passed and like the thousands trapped within the game, Ren had found himself reeling from the implications of what Akihiro Kayaba had said upon that accursed day. The once glorified creator of S.A.O was now the warden of this virtual prison; some unseen entity that presumably watched from some safe haven as thousands of people succumed to the reality of what had just been thrust upon them. Why?... was the common question that many had... but despite their attempts to find that answer.. not once would Kayaba make an appearance.

The first few days had been the roughest to survive; frequent talk of people yeeting themselves off the edge into oblivion had become an almost common thing; their desperate attempts to 'log out' forcing them to do the unimaginable. The irony however, was that for those left behind there was no guarantee that suicide would force them to return to the real world. They could only choose to take that gamble themselves..

Fortunately for Ren, now going by the name Shiro. He had been able to accept the new reality, able to ignore those dark thoughts that swirled in his mind in favour of forging ahead. The prospect of death had of course haunted him at the beginning but it only took him a night of lamenting his fate to realize... that this... this was a world that he had longed for when he was a child.

The fear of death...it wasn't as if this was a new thing thrust upon each and every one of them by Kayaba. Death existed long before S.A.O did. Why did being in a game suddenly make it even more frightening? Thinking about it rationally, the only real difference now was that the world they all resided in was 'Fantasy', as opposed to the mundane reality that they had called home. Accepting this line of thought, Ren had steeled his nerve and re-forged his resolve; choosing to live out the life he had only ever dreamed off living. Here, in S.A.O.. he could make his dreams come true.

For the second half of the week, Ren would throw himself into the wilderness; taking on several quests from local NPC's to ensure that he grew stronger whilst still earning enough to ensure that he had a warm bed and a decent meal every night. It would be in passing as he returned to the 'Town of Beginnings' that he would catch wind of a 'special quest'.

Interested, he would follow closely behind others as they made there way to where this 'Sir Lucius' was, the albino warrior overhearing the quest details upon their arrival and choosing to instantly accept it once the details of the reward was made known.

Eager to get this powerful weapon, he'd make his way to the designated location; noticing a growing gathering of other adventurers as well as he did so.

"Kappa-chan" spoke Shiro, approaching behind the masked player, a cheeky smile spread across Ren's face as he closed the gap between himself and the group. "Did you forget the riddle already?" he asked rhetorically, walking in front of the Kappa, his eyes affixed upon her as he smiled. "Drink the wine... and you'll be outta time..." he mused, placing both hands upon his neck as he pretended to croak and keel over.

"Jokes aside... you guys need another fighter?.. I'm pretty good if I dare say so myself!" he laughed.

The Cursed day of when she had played the game, Jiyuu only thought this game was friendly and was meeting up with a couple of IRL friends for the time and had nothing to plan besides chilling and having fun. Until she found out she couldn't log out and was teleported to the center of the town along with the other players as in which Kayaba himself told about this being the game of death, and the video feeds to tell that this was real, as this had Struck Jiyuu HARD on that day as she had a big mental breakdown and started crying as she was worried for her life and how will she ever get out of this game and since then she was in a depression rarely wanting to come outside and greet other people which had worried her IRL friends for a few days and she didn't want any help. It was until she had firmly thought of becoming a blacksmith to make armor for her allies and help others as well of keeping her combat up. The Next couple of days Jiyuu decided to go by Smithy to feel better and decided to raise money to open a shop.

The first few days after the depression was rough but it was worth it. Jiyuu managed to get her level up and also gotten the skills to make better armor for people. She was Still questioning about Kayaba's motives on why did he make this game? Was for us to suffer? Or Was much more darker than that? That kinds of questions makes her stay up all night. She ignored all of these problems and decided to play this as if this is a roleplay and decided to act as her In-game self to kinda make herself feel better. She's been out helping NPCs On Quests and pretty much making some money at least on the Armor Dealings, Which humbly she was glad about it. Well as she was heading back from a quest she was on, She met a man about finding the golden Wine which intrigued her. Danuja Arrived onto the field highly nervous as she was hiding behind a tree glancing at all of the other players. Danuja was worried."Come on Smithy Get a grip, You can do this..."She mumbled to herself not sounding so sure. As she then stepped out into the open."You guys are on this quest magnificent."She said happily. "Names Smithy by the way."Danuja introduced.
