CHRISTOPHER

Christopher ran his tongue over his lower lips and Gideon pressed, suggesting that perhaps the motel was just as good a place as any. “I think I can convince them to leave you in my care.” He teased quietly. He didn’t doubt the other man was remorseful for how he was introduced to this particular set of hunters. Chris knew firsthand what happened when you crossed Mackenzie’s trust and the unpleasant thought brought a shudder.

He shook his head. “They’re cautious, they’ve got kids. But they’ll see you’re not the problem - hell, you passed their tests. I think they’re just trying to make sure they do due diligence. But, if you want early parole… I can try and put a good word in, get you back on the road…?”

MACKENZIE

Mackenzie followed along behind the trio, never surprised at just how happy Skye and Liam were when they were together. It was always a baleful experience when they had to be separated, even at night when they went to their own homes to sleep. Somedays it was easier to fight off a pack of werewolves or a nest of vampires than to fight the wills of the delinquent duo in their care.

Within the restaurant, Mackenzie deposited the box of electronics before assisting Will in getting the pair secured to their chairs – if they didn’t do this, then the second they looked away they’d be out of sight and tearing something important apart.

She left Will to set up the entertainment; there was no point in her making any false attempts. All it would gain them was more frustration and angry children. Instead, she slipped around the counter and collected two pouches of animal crackers, opening each and dumping the contents onto the kid's trays. It would buy her enough time to get more food made and start prepping for the evening meal to come.

Mackenzie collected the dishes left over from breakfast, and loaded them in the industrial dishwasher and started removing prepped food from the fridges for the evening. She’d never thought of what or where she would have been if she’d never been a hunter; at least not until she’d met Will and had Skye. If her mother had lived and acted out her plan to escape the hunting world when she’d been a child. Would she still have the love of cooking and baking that she did now? Would she still be entirely useless with anything technology-based?

She knew, for certain, that she didn’t want Skye locked into the same destiny she had; they would teach Skye about the hunting world but only after she got to see what everyone else had. She would give her daughter the choice to hunt or not and the tools to do either.

MORGAN

Morgan smiled as Adelaide swiftly deterred any thoughts that their afternoon being lazy wolves hadn’t been enjoyable for herself. She appreciated that the witch seemed content enough to laze about and eat food and enjoy the little bit of peace in the sun. Oftentimes Morgan, Brody and Chase had to seek their runs under the moonlight; certainly no complaints and it was often their preference but Morgan liked the heat of the sun on her fur.

She settled in beside Addy, closer than was necessary but it felt good to remain close. She knew humans often separated the wolf from the person; she knew the other hunters at the hotel and even the colony did. But they’d just been lounging together, Addy with her head on her stomach. It was no different to her, no matter what the flesh.

Morgan leaned her head against Addy’s shoulder and closed her eyes, enjoying the warm breeze before muttering. “Brody is going to want to leave soon.” She knew Addy was likely aware of it already. The Pack Enforcer didn’t like to stay in one place too long as a wolf, and his pacing and the frequency of his patrolling indicated it was only a matter of time.

“Is there anywhere or anything you want to do today? Before we go back?”

GIDEON
Gideon thought about Christopher's offer for a moment - only a moment - and then shook his head. "Oh, no, you don't need to do that. Not yet anyways. I'm not itching to get back out on the road quite yet. I don't have another job lined up at the moment, so no place I need to be. And anyway - I think I'm due for a little bit of rest and relaxation at this point. A mini-vacation."

He took another sip of his drink, letting it settle on his tongue for a bit before he swallowed, and offered Christopher a smile. "Besides, as far as vacation locations go? Sure, this is no Paris, but its also not Compton. I could do far, far worse. Have done worse, too. I once spent almost a month in this shitty rented flat in Brooklyn where I had to chase squatters away thrice while I was there."

Gideon absolutely did look like the kind of guy to say thrice in casual conversation and not think twice about how that sounded to normal people.

WILLIAM

William finished setting up the projector with a practiced ease, glancing down at the various movies in the stack before settling on Finding Nemo. The film and its myriad of colorful “fishies” never failed to delight Liam and Skye. With the opening credits rolling, he turned back toward Mackenzie to see her doling out a rather generous serving of animal crackers to both of the children.

He smiled, stepping out of the way of the screen and moving over to plant a kiss on each of the toddlers’ foreheads only to be ignored as they munched on the cookies and stared intently at the TV.

He circled along their high chairs to wrap an arm around Mac’s waist. “You want me to go round everyone up for supper?” he asked quietly.

ADELAIDE

Adelaide nodded as Morgan remarked that Brody would want to be leaving soon. She could feel the anxious energy from the Pack Guardian from here. It was hard to miss. She didn't want to contribute to it by insisting on sticking around, no matter how peaceful and enjoyable their present surroundings might be.

Her eyebrows raised as the young suggested there might be something else on her “to-do” list. She tilted her head in consideration before shaking it slowly. “Nothing comes to mind. I'm just glad we were able to get away from the madhouse… together,” she said with a bashful smile for Morgan before then inclining her head toward Brody. “Did you have something in mind?”

CHRISTOPHER

Christopher waited quietly as Gideon considered his offer; he wondered if the new hunter would take him up on his offer and quietly hoped that he wouldn’t. It had been a welcome surprise to arrive and find fresh blood - metaphorically speaking at least. He’d been concerned about turning up to the Inn and being surrounded by couples. Of course, there was Max and Chase, but it would only be a matter of time before Emile showed up and Max … Well, their relationship had become strained after everything with Thomas back at Vitae.

He was relieved to hear that the only other solo hunter in this state intended on staying. He was swiftly growing to enjoy Gideon’s company and didn’t want to part ways just yet. Chris nodded as Gideon commented that their tiny dust bowl in the desert wasn’t Paris, but it would do.

“Well, I’ll have to agree with you on that. It isn’t Paris … not that I would know what Paris is like, but I’m sure we can find ways to make it like Paris.” She swirled his drink, letting the bottom of the glass roll on the tabletop.

He set the glass down and reached for the board of meat and cheese, taking up a slice of each. He toyed with them a moment, considering, then went on. “So tell me, what do you think we need to do to make the Mountaineer Inn more Paris-like? Better booze? Silk sheets…?”

MACKENZIE

Mackenzie smiled, leaning back against Will's chest as he came to meet her in the kitchen. She shook her head slowly. “No, they'll show up when they're hungry. Plus I don't think anyone is here.” She set out another tray, a prepared lasagna ready to be put into the oven once it reached temperature.

“Brody’s car, Ash’s bubble and Chris’s car are all gone. I'm guessing everyone else with one of those three. Max doesn’t really join these kinds of nights, and I’m sure Chase is chatting with Emile.” She sighed wistfully. “Just a quiet movie night for us.”

CNAKtJZ.jpg

MORGAN

Morgan shrugged sheepishly as Adelaide turned her question back on her. “I’m sure there are plenty of better things we could have been doing than laying around the woods all day.” She said, almost shyly. “I know this isn’t what people - humans - typically do on …dates” She bit her lower lips and shook her head. “If you would even want to call it that, but maybe next time we go somewhere else? Somewhere better? Like … bowling?”

She was struggling, far out of the depths. Finding a partner, a mate even, within the pack was so much easier. A connection between wolves made sense, entire being and sole. It’s how she knew Brody was her best friend, and that they would be together forever. Adelaide was a harder soul to read.

WILLIAM

William nodded at Mackenzie's remark. He certainly wouldn't complain about having the Inn more or less to themselves for the time being. He ran a hand through her auburn hair with a smile, already mentally savoring the flavor of the lasagna she was preparing. He didn't need food in the same way humans did -- not anymore -- but some part of him still craved it and he "partook" any time he could... at least when she was doing the cooking.

Will spared a glance over his shoulder to check on the kids. As expected, they were still sitting peacefully, entranced by the opening frames of their film. He chuckled under his breath. "There are worse ways to spend an evening," he stated.

Adelaide 3.jpg

ADELAIDE

Adelaide cocked her head at Morgan as she remarked that there were better things to be doing than laying around in the woods... things she believed humans typically did on dates. Addy flushed at the comment, the implication surprising her coming from the young wolf. Few could accuse Morgan of being timid in most regards, but when it came to matters of intimacy she was surprisingly reserved -- a fact Addy was well aware had to do with her relative inexperience and the fact that she second-guessed everything (at least when it came to her rather than Brody).

Adelaide was opening her mouth to reply when Morgan followed up by mentioning -- of all things -- bowling. She had to resist the urge not to burst out in laughter -- for two reasons. One was for her rather unfortunate misinterpretation of what Morgan had been getting at... and the second was for the wolf's continued fascination with bowling. Ever since they had met back in Vitae, Morgs had been borderline obsessed with all sorts of human activities like the cinema or the skating rink or the arcade... or the bowling alley. They had been able to satisfy her curiosity on some of those accounts, but as of yet Adelaide hadn't taken her bowling. There simply wasn't an establishment near Vitae and with how hectic things had gotten at the colony, long journeys for an afternoon of aimless recreation hadn't been practical. They would have to remedy that now.

Adelaide smiled slowly, letting out a knowing sigh. "Morgs, first of all, you don't have to worry about 'what humans do' when it comes to making me happy. What makes me happy is spending time with you and Grumble-Guts over there," she inclined her head in the direction that Brody had run off. "No matter where, no matter when, no matter what. In this case, I happened to love being out in nature with you two." She reached out to cup the young woman's cheek, running a delicate thumb along her cheek. "Second of all... if you ever want to try something new, we can do that. We're not at Vitae or Borseti anymore. We don't have to answer to anyone right now." Her smile widened and she leaned in conspiratorially. "As it happens... Ash told me there's a bowling alley less than an hour from here."

GIDEON
“Probably burn it to the ground, move out of the desert, and rebuild in a completely different state.” Gideon answered flatly, before tossing Christopher a grin and laughing.

“I’m kidding. Your friends would probably shoot me for that one, so don’t repeat it. Ah, I don’t even know where to start. Just… updating the decor, make things a little more posh-yet-cozy. Silk sheets would be a godsend. I’m not entirely filled with complaints though - the air conditioning works, and the food is… well, the air conditioning works.” He nodded, hoping he looked enthusiastic enough about it.

“Don’t get me wrong, I can survive just fine outside of the lap of luxury. I’m not fragile. But, oh, you really must visit the actual thing someday, somehow. Though… taking a vacation is hard. Especially one that brings you far from your work. I get that.”

MACKENZIE

If someone had asked Mackenzie where she would be and what she would be doing at this age, years ago her answer would have been: dead. She had long been on a short path to death and her only goal, for a long time in her life, had been simply to take as many monsters out as she possibly could before they got her.

To be standing in the kitchen - their - kitchen making dinner for their kids and family like monsters were. William had been a pivot point in her destiny; he’d been the key to unlocking her desire to do more than kill and then be killed. To be more than what the monsters feared.

“Mhm.” She agreed with the sentiment. She knew there were times when she was nearly climbing the walls to get out on the road and do what she was born and built to do. But then the simplest of things will happen: Skye calling her to join her and Liam playing, or watching Will and Skye sleep in bed, quelling any desire to leave.

“Listen now,” She said softly. “You keep on this direction dinner is never going to make it to the oven.”

BRODY & MORGAN

Morgan flushed as Adelaide noted that she didn’t have to be concerned they were doing Wolf or pack things but not things that humans enjoyed. She always worried that they bullied Addy into doing what they wanted or that Addy simply compiled because it was two against one. Her flush deepened as Addy gently cupped her cheek, her thumb leaving behind a burning tingle on her skin.

Her eyes widened as Addy went on, her voice lowering into a whisper; though Morgan’s hearing wasn’t impacted in the least. Her eyes flitted from Addy’s eyes to her lips and back again but when she spoke about a bowling alley, Morgan suddenly felt incredibly awkward. She blinked and swallowed hard, nodded. “Okay,”

Brody had been patrolling the area but keeping a close watch on the women still relaxing. He’d wanted to give them an opportunity alone, Morgs had expressed her desire to move her relationship with Addy along a little further. The younger wolf was still very … new to dating and all things related to and Brody thought that she was holding back and using him as an excuse.

Seeing the duo lean in and speak but not actually kiss was infuriating and he couldn’t prevent the low growl emitting from his throat.

Annoyed with himself now, outing his presence he huffed and exited the brush heading across the small opening to where his clothing was piled so he could shift and dress,

CHRISTOPHER

Christopher raised his eyebrows as Gideon expressed quite blatantly how he felt about the Inn. He knew it wasn’t up to the standards he preferred but burning it to the ground hadn’t been among the list of things for improvement he thought he’d heard.

He nodded his acquiesce; there wasn’t a shot in hell he’d repeat that anywhere Mackenzie might hear it. “You’ll have to give me an education on what ‘posh-yet-cosy’ decor would be, I’m afraid.” He admitted, swirling his drink before selecting some meat from the tray and its dwindling supply.

“Though the sound of testing bedroom decor with you is appealing.” He winked at Gideon as he popped the slice of meat into his mouth and chewed it, thoughtfully.

William Talking Gif.gif

WILLIAM

William could feel the happiness and the contentment radiating from Mackenzie like a soft wave that enveloped him. It wasn't merely a partner's intuition, either. It was their link, their bond -- whatever the angels had called it when they saw fit to tether the two of them to one another: mind, body, and soul. Not that Will was complaining, of course. It had taken some time for the two of them to adjust, for certain, but the link had its benefits (practical or otherwise) and he was hardly one to bemoan the ability to feel his wife's joy in such a direct and intimate way.

He wondered if this was what Adelaide felt with everyone around her: basking in their emotions. He pushed the thought aside as Mac warned him that he should correct his course lest dinner be delayed indefinitely. Will gave her a wicked smirk, leaning in to whisper at her ear. "Well... technically I don't need it..." he said. He cast a glance over his shoulder at the kids. "And them? They're resourceful. They take after their parents. They'd figure it out," he teased before ultimately pressing a small kiss to her neck and relenting, releasing his hold on her.

Addy Look Gif.gif

ADELAIDE

Adelaide had expected a few different emotions from Morgan when she mentioned the bowling alley. Excitement, jubilation -- even apprehension about a new experience. She was prepared for any of those. But the quick sensation she got from the young wolf -- a brief pulse, accompanied by a telltale blank expression on her face -- was quite different. It was one of... confusion? Unease? As if Adelaide had suggested something outlandish. Immediately the psychic resisted the urge to follow that thought-strand into Morgan's brain, to delve for answers. It went against her own code and the agreement that she had forged with both Morgan and Brody at the start of their relationship.

Instead she cocked her head curiously, lips pursed. "Morgs? What's wro--" she began to ask, only to be interrupted as a burly black canine form barreled out of the brush nearby with an annoyed huff. Addy turned to give him an unimpressed stare, one eyebrow cocked up. Where Morgan was all tension and eggshells, Brody was radiating with prickly annoyance. Addy could sense that their peaceful afternoon out had come to an abrupt and disappointing end. She sighed. "Right," she remarked to herself, going to her knees to begin gathering their things while Brody shifted behind them.

GIDEON

"Maybe we should, then. Test the bedroom decor, that is. Primarily, the strength of the bedframe." Gideon tapped his ring finger and thumb against his glass lightly, index finger circling around the mouth of the glass. He made no effort to hide how his eyes roamed over Christopher, lingering here and there - eyes, lips, neck, biceps... there was quite a lot to admire.

"It's important in this line of work to remember to occasionally pause and have some fun, do something relaxing, blow off some steam." He put a little emphasis on the word blow, just enough to make it teasing.

"Though I do have to wonder - just how quickly would you run off out of town the next morning if we did that? I don't want to ruin whatever kind of homecoming you're having here, with these people. The depravity in my brain shouldn't take priority over... whatever you have planned here."

MACKENZIE

Mackenzie laughed softly to herself as William suggested the kids would find their way. As much as she certainly would agree that was the truth. If Liam was anything like Elijah and Skye anything like herself, the world was going to be doomed to the delinquent duo’s actions in the future. They would be leaders, they would be unstoppable.

With Will stepping away she was able to take the prepared feasts and set it into the oven to start. It wouldn’t take long for her to get the rest of the meal ready; she intended on leaving out servings in re-heatable containers so as the rest of the family trickled in they could feed themselves. Gideon had proven he wasn’t much of a guest and she wasn’t about to worry herself about making sure he was fed.

She turned as she heard the bell over the reception door ring, catching sight of Ash and Eli as they returned from their trip picking up supplies.

BRODY & MORGAN

Morgan flushed and shook her head as Adelaide was already speaking to her hesitation, ready to excuse her confusion and dismiss any thoughts she may have had but Brody interrupted the moment. She turned her attention to helping Addy pack up their items, shamelessly snacking on bites here and there as they put up the food.

Brody stood, keeping his back to the women as he dressed out of politeness. They weren’t on pack grounds, even if Adelaide had expressed she didn’t mind. “You two need to kiss or bang it out already.” He grumbled over his shoulder, pulling his shirt over his head. “I’m tired of the tension between you, I can taste it.”

hK2KbsO.jpg

CHRISTOPHER

Christopher chuckled softly at Gideon’s comments he appreciated the banter and the cheeky looks. However, his tone took a serious shift rather swiftly, even if it remained flirtatious, to his concerns about Chris abandoning his friends and the other hunters at the Inn if they had a shameless hookup.

He shrugged a single shoulder but nodded. “It’s a reunion, for sure, but the furthest thing from a homecoming.” His home was gone, Mackenzie was not someone he’d seek out willingly if he thought there were alternatives to his end goal. “I’m here because I can’t sit back and wait for the dra…” He cut himself off, clearing his throat.

“I can’t just wait for Hypoles to show up whenever he pleases and burn down another home, another city.” He couldn’t lose more people. “But I get not wanting to make tensions worse between you and them.”

The waitress arrived and asked if he wanted more but Chris shook his head. “No thank you,” She turned to Gideon, asking the same.

Addy ARgue Outside Gif.gif

ADELAIDE

Adelaide could feel the tension emanating from Morgan as they stood across from one another, packing up their food and dishes. It was as if the air between them was charged, but in truth she couldn't blame the young wolf entirely for the atmosphere. The sensation Morgan was giving off was honestly no different than what Addy felt as she caught herself sneaking periodic glances up from her task toward her companion: committing to memory the way her dark hair fell across her face as she leaned over to pick up a basket, or the way the sun reflected in her bright hazel eyes.

And then Brody spoke up. Adelaide's jaw clenched, the witch bristling at the comment. She didn't particularly disagree with the sentiment... but Brody's interjection was decidedly unwelcome all the same. She could see that Morgan seemed to fidget uncomfortably in the wake of it.

Game on. Adelaide opened one of the baskets, one containing a key lime pie the three of them had snacked on. Well, mostly Morgan. The dessert was mostly intact, but only because the young wolf had gotten to it last. Brody wasn't huge on sweets, at least not in her limited experience.

Perfect for Adelaide's plans, across the board.

With Brody still distracted and his back turned to them, Addy whisked the pie out of the container with her gift -- as if cradled in invisible hands. She let out a sharp whistle, sure to draw the Pack Guardian's attention while simultaneously whipping the pastry toward him like a telekinetic fastball.

"Taste that," she hissed before taking Morgan's hand in one of her own and the picnic tote in the other and marching out of the clearing.

GIDEON

Gideon gave Christopher a smile, thankful for what sounded like an honest answer. It said a lot about the man: the serious, real question wasn't brushed off or downplayed, but understood. Gideon chewed on his lower lip a bit before finishing off his last piece of cheese. Crossing his arms on the table and leaning forward, he nodded his head at Christopher.

"I can't be a homewrecker if it's not a home." He grinned, then let that smile fade a little, to something more gentle. "No, don't worry about me. I confess they have not seen me in the best light, and I've given them little incentive to trust me yet. I'm competition at best, but so long as they don't actually think I'm a danger, it'll be okay. At least, I don't intend to be a danger to anything except whatever I hunt." He said that last bit quietly, making sure no passing nosy staff overheard.

It was a good thing too, as it wasn't long before their waitress was back. Gideon also shook his head, nudging empty glasses and plates away. "No ma'am, I'm also done, if you could get the slip please." Gideon was already reaching for his wallet as the waitress left to get their bill.

"I had fun. We should do this again. If you're up for it." Gideon gave Christopher a wink. Flipping open his wallet, he slid out a black credit card. It didn't take long for the waitress to return with their bill. Gideon barely looked at the cost, only to do the math for the tip in his head, before signing his copy and handing the slip and the card to the waitress.

BRODY & MORGAN

Brody spun on instinct at Adelaide's whistle; searching for what the witch might be trying to alter him to. Not for a second did he think that the reason for her to signal him was to launch an assault of her own. He hadn't time to think; he reached up to catch the object that was flung at her only to have the pie explode in his fist. Pie shell, cream and filling splattered across his chest, arm and part of his face as he looked away.

He scowled after the retreating women, then peeled off his shirt to turn it inside out so he could start cleaning himself up.

Morgan could hardly believe what she’d witnessed; staring dumbfounded at Brody covered in pie. Only when Addy grabbed her hand and dragged her away did start to move and willingly follow her down the path out of the clearing and toward the parking lot.

She was quiet for a time and when they got to the car, she spoke. “Why?”

There wasn’t time for the witch to answer because right behind them was the angry pack guardian stalking out of the woods. Morgan tugged open the door to the back seat and slipped inside, dragging Addy in behind her.

***

The ride back to the Inn was awkward. No one spoke. Morgan wanted to bridge the gap but didn’t know how and wanted to let them both cool off. This hadn’t been their first conflict of sorts. Both Addy and Brody were … headstrong.

She’d spent most of her life watching Emile handle conflict between pack members and this was no different, but far more awkward.

At the motel, Brody pulled into his usual spot and got out, storming up the exterior stairwell to the second floor where his room was located. Morgan shifted in her seat and turned to smile at Adelaide. “He’ll be alright. He just needs to calm down.” She opened her door and stepped out, holding it open for Addy to step out then closed the door behind her.

“Thanks for today.” She said softly. “It was fun.” Against her shy nature, Morgan stepped closer to the witch and leaned in, giving her a soft kiss on the cheek before heading to her own room for the night.

CHRISTOPHER

Christopher smiled to himself as Gideon stated that he’d enjoyed their date and they should do it again. The wink was not missed and Chris certainly hoped that he was being honest, though their conversation up to this point certainly felt that way.

After the server left he spoke. “Free food with a good-looking guy and unadulterated flirting? Who would say no?” He hadn’t intended for Gideon to pay for the tab; truth be told he’d been the one to invite the other man out, but he wouldn’t protest all the same. With the bill paid, Chris led Gideon out of the restaurant. The sun was setting, growing lower on the horizon and despite that, it was still incredibly warm out.

He was thankful for the AC in his room and the slightest hint of night in the air. As they got back into his car he spoke again. “I’m glad to hear you’ll be sticking around a while, considering how your reception was.” The ride back was much the same as the ride out, uneventful and they chatted idly about what was to come, hunting-wise. When they pulled into the lot, Chris parked in front of his own room.

He got out and circled around the front of the car, pausing by his door.” He smiled at Gideon and nodded to the man's expensive ride, on a life in the mechanic shop across the lot. “You let me know if you need a lift, yeah?” He chuckled softly. “At least until Mac sets you free again.” He turned to unlock his door but swung back, a heedless decision he reached out and took Gideon’s hand, tugging the other man closer. His left hand rose to gently slip behind Gideon’s neck, leaning in to kiss him.

Chris stepped back, a smile lingering on his lips. “Thanks for making my comeback memorable.”
